One would do MUCH better (for less than HALF the cost) in getting a new www.northern-lite.com camper (which are FAR better built and with more amenities) and then a good US 4 door P/U. THEN you also have the pick-up when not camping. As usual, VW preys on the people with more money than brains.
Based on the feedback from viewers who have built their own campers the conversion materials are not that cheap and hundrends of hours of labor also have to be counted in, don't you agree?
I had a 42 foot four wind class c, triple slide out with huge diesel engine, solar panels, slept 9...more than I could put up with...full bath, bunk beds and generator. New $75,000.00, I got it 2 years old, 11,000 miles for 42,000. The prices must not be in U.S. Dollars.

one thing they could invent is a lift system out the backs. that can carry a dirt bike inside the camper inside a airtight box on the lift. that lowers to the ground and make the air tight bike cover(box) easy to pop on and off.

I have the same reaction to all of these videos. MUCH TOO EXPENSIVE for what you are getting. I had someone build ours according to plans we created. There is an absurd focus on "cool" level, and furniture arrangements which rarely utilize multifunctional furniture design - comfortable couch that turns into a kingsized bed, collapsable furniture ( some cardboard are good), desks and beds, desks attached to walls, Most people are able to decide what they want and locate furniture, and find tents to attach, tanks that hold water, and solar cells if that;s your thing. What we hear ALOT less about is insulation, repair histories an costs, leaks, warps in that lovely wood (looking??) cabinets. Oh yes wtch out for all you do is press a button. It will break as side outs do and then what? My opinion: Decide what makes a place a home for you and what would make you yearn for a hotel. For us comfortable couches a large TV, fridge and freezer, AC, indoor shower and cooking, microwave and a small washing machine. Things we do not need. A table ( that collapses into a bed), any bed that remains open all day, lots of convenient storage space, closets for large wardrobes, or two sinks. Awnings are nice, but a large water proof self standing, (99 dollars at wallmart) with walls, waterprooffing and some sort of comfortable flooring is much more useful. My personal preference: Having done both - anything you have to tow will be a pain. Last not least = rent before you buy or build .

Plus you get the sense of accomplishment when you make the decisions and build it for you. I guess companies like these existing prove that there are far too many idiots out there just waiting to be separated from their piles of cash.

In general, we liked what we saw, except KORA GEHOCAB should not waste their highly sophisticated creation on a VW Amarok. It only archives that so highly advertised 4x4 data when the engine revs self destroying high and a slipping timing belt is not considered to be a warranty issue to VW - be very aware about that!!

Thx for the reply, personally I used to own a Jayco Seneca FS36’. It was the older chassis on the Kodiak frame. Duramax 6.6 with an 8kw diesel he set. For me, this was an ideal setup. I have a 16 yr old daughter who likes camping with her girlfriends or she won’t go. Go figure? But it tows extremely well and does it all. I had previously had an ‘A’ class and it was horrible.

Agreed, Airstream's "overnight" stay readiness is not impressive. Though the trips on board must be very comfortable. As for their dependability, the data is probably unavailable, due to the very limited production. Some people might take extreme care of their vans, while others will destroy them in a few years, no statistical data to have a clear picture.

All of these were overpriced from an American perspective. I wonder why more Europeans don't retire to America. I know most of them get pensions. How much is a European pension? If you were a European that had health insurance that worked in the US why wouldn't you move? The US is generally cheaper than the most populated cities of Europe. The Euro currency is worth more in the US. Many rural areas of America a couple could live on $2000/ month or maybe less. A nomadic life living in an RV is possible and cheap. last time i checked a 2019 for pick up crew cab 45k and a pickup camper was about 40k? so for 85,000 you get new unit, 500,000 for your camper is insane in the membrane?
This was so poorly put together that, except for the exterior, we have no idea what the vehicle looks like. I would like to see a well-filmed presentation which better represents the qualities and features of the camper...shot and edited in an organized manner instead of this hodgepodge of variations and styles all mixed together as if they were showing one vehicle.
IMHO I would say it is too sophisticated and suits more for a short overnight stay, but off course with some minor additions one could go off grid with it.

Thx for the reply, personally I used to own a Jayco Seneca FS36’. It was the older chassis on the Kodiak frame. Duramax 6.6 with an 8kw diesel he set. For me, this was an ideal setup. I have a 16 yr old daughter who likes camping with her girlfriends or she won’t go. Go figure? But it tows extremely well and does it all. I had previously had an ‘A’ class and it was horrible.
Who the hell can afford these??? I remember my Mother bought a beautiful Big Custom van back in the mid 80’s for about $35,000, it was plush!!!

You can also consider buying a used van and equipping it with so called camping boxes that have kitchen appliances and make the sleeping area more comfortable. Gehocab, nice but engine too small to last many years. Put a V8 in this camper. The Winnebago is the best of all of them. Dependable engineering and engine. Quality all around more than the others.
When I come to think about once again, the Amarok engine might indeed lack the punch to carry this camper box fully equipped. I cannot but agree with your remarks about the Winnebago. Indeed proven campers from a proven manufacturer

Agreed, Airstream's "overnight" stay readiness is not impressive. Though the trips on board must be very comfortable. As for their dependability, the data is probably unavailable, due to the very limited production. Some people might take extreme care of their vans, while others will destroy them in a few years, no statistical data to have a clear picture.

All of these were overpriced from an American perspective. I wonder why more Europeans don't retire to America. I know most of them get pensions. How much is a European pension? If you were a European that had health insurance that worked in the US why wouldn't you move? The US is generally cheaper than the most populated cities of Europe. The Euro currency is worth more in the US. Many rural areas of America a couple could live on $2000/ month or maybe less. A nomadic life living in an RV is possible and cheap. Please comment with details.

This was so poorly put together that, except for the exterior, we have no idea what the vehicle looks like. I would like to see a well-filmed presentation which better represents the qualities and features of the camper...shot and edited in an organized manner instead of this hodgepodge of variations and styles all mixed together as if they were showing one vehicle.
Also, why is the Merc sprinter not off grid suitable? I’ve seen people do it on RUclips channels
IMHO I would say it is too sophisticated and suits more for a short overnight stay, but off course with some minor additions one could go off grid with it.
