If we're being honest, Ganassi was a midpack team that was elevated by the driver talent they brought in. Montoya, Marlin, Kurt Busch and Larson were drivers that could outperform their equipment. There's a reason why Ganassi always says "I like winners", the man had a great eye for talent
Ganassi gave our new Cup champion his big break. He gave Sterling Marlin a real shot at a championship (even if it didn't go as planned). And that silver Coors Light Dodge was one of the most badass cars in the sport. Justin Marks should do fine with the CGR assets.
Thank you for the Memories and for Giving Kyle Larson his 1st big Break in NASCAR CGR. Edit: Thanks Danny I've been waiting for this New Episode the Rise and Fall Series
The year sterling marlin was absolutely dominating and McMurray filled in was a sad one, the dude was peak and gets injured and never wins the title. I’ll never forget it, always being a Jeff Gordon fan and seeing the 40 coors car over and over finish top podiums I was worried he wouldn’t win, he was like a couple races ahead when he was injured
Call Petty always had the coolest paint jobs when I was a kid. The 42 metal yellow car was my very first diecast. In the 44 Hot Wheels car was almost as cool.
I always respected Chip Ganassi I was at Las Vegas when Sterling Marlin won and at Sonoma when Juan Montoya won. I really wish Chip could have won a Nascar Championship but his Indy Car Team's rock Best wishes to Chip Ganassi you will be missed in Nascar
Marlin was actually smart to get out and fix his fender during that red flag in 2002. He said in interviews there was no way he could’ve ran another lap without the tire going down and ripping the fender to pieces no matter what so he had nothing to lose 🥴. Pretty ingenious if you ask me 🤔
There's so much I could say. But I have to say I love how Chip stuck by Chastain no matter the turmoil !!! No matter what he always kept Ross at the top of his next in line
You talked about the deaths of Adam Petty, Kenny Irwin, and Dale Earnhardt Sr. but please don’t forget about Tony Roper and his death at Texas in the fall of 2000. Those deaths lead to the safety measures in the sport today and have saved several lives, thanks again for another great video and I enjoy your channel.
I'm on the fence. When Ganassi joined up with Sabates and put in all that Target money it definitely was a step up. That faded and they lost the powerhouse they once were. I think Chip has too many irons in the fire. I kinda wonder if this is whats going on at SHR? Just a thought

Indycar and IMSA are in much better shape than NASCAR. The France Family can be bought by any team with the biggest bank account, It used to be Childress and Roush before Hendrick came along then Toyota took over for a while but now Hendrick has the most influence. Ganassi, SHR, and Penske can't or won't play that game. After 40 years I bought my last NASCAR ticket this year.
Great video, so informative! I think Trackhouse will do very well next year, not just because of the Next Gen car leveling the playing field, but also because Justin Marks is freaking ambitious, and now he has the equipment to meet that ambition.
25:36 and 43:13. If I had a nickel for every time Metallica’s logo made an appearance in this video, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
With Petty Enterprise essentially going away now with GMS buying them out. Which was long overdue in my opinion. It’d be interesting to see a rise and fall video on that operation. For a while during the time Dodge was back they were fairly competitive.
Great video on the timeline of Ganassi along with the ups/downs in nascar Juan Pablo Montoya was so underrated as racer in nascar. Hopefully this afternoon if Larson does wrap up with a championship win then Ganassi as a whole contribute a winner for all of nascar
@23:47 For a second I thought Gannassi had done some marketing gimmick, where the #40 car was half Juicy Fruit, half Coors Light.. That would actually be a pretty sick idea.
We (Chip Ganassi Racing; I work for McDonald's, hence my Chip Ganassi Racing affiliation) have said "Never say Never" (as far as making a return to NASCAR someday), just that it's a "Goodbye (for now)" as just like how we have now returned to IMSA Sportscar Racing (after sitting out a year, & also subsequently switching from Ford & the GTLM class to the DPi Caddilacs that we are now driving)...so anything can happen in the future. We will have practice and qualifying next year but only 1 day event Not Friday practice Saturday qualify Sunday race Same day practice, qualifying and race, What made you think we ain't practicing and racing on our new cars
Something I want to add, this is kinda the bigger reason too why Ganassi is leaving NASCAR which I do t think is really bro g talked about, but Ganassi also had a sports car program in the Daytona Prototype class in the Grand Am Rolex Sports Car Series from between I think 2004/05-2015 in the Prototype category, and in GTLM and GTE in IMSA and WEC with partnership from Ford when they brought back the Ford GT. And that lasted between 2016-2019. Ganassi left Sports Cars after that year, and then got back in in the Daytona Prototype International (DPI) class for 2021 entering one car with a second confirmed for 2022. But this is where things r getting put on for Ganassi. NASCAR isn’t the only series getting a new car. The new Hypercar classes to replace IMSA’s DPI category and WEC’s LMP1 category, which was very much coming to the end of its lifetime since Toyota being the only hybrid powered cars left in LMP1 with Audi leaving in 2016 due to dieselgate cause they ran Volkswagen diesel engines in their P1 cars for a long time, and then Porsche leaving the year after to focus on their electric car program which led them to Formula E. The only makes left were Rebellion Racing who ran a P1 version of the LMP2 Oreca 07 chassis with 4.5L Gibbons engine, ByKolles which was wickedly in bad shape, and Genetta. There was a car from DragonSpeed that ran a P1 Dallara P217 chassis, but that was only for 2018. Hypercar has really given the chance for tons of new opportunities for the two too sports car series. The big one being tryin to get the top Prototype classes to run in both the US with the Rolex 24, Sebring 12 hours, 6 hours at the Glen, and Petit Le Mans and Europe with the Spa 6 hours and of course Le Man 24 hours, just like they did back from the 60s through the mid 90s. Which it’s brought just that for both the now LMH class for WEC and LMDh class for IMSA which will come in 2023. Plus lots of manufacturers r onboard with this change. From LMH u have makes from Toyota, Alpine who currently runs a grandfathered LMP1 car, Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus, Peugeot, Ferrari, and ByKolles and in LMDh we have BMW, Porsche, Audi, Cadillac, Lamborghini, Acura, and ig Alpine in there as well from what I found. So how does this relate to Ganassi? Well Ganassi now back in sports cars after their huge success there, I mean they have the most amount of wins in the Daytona 24 hours out of any team in that race, as well as 3 championships from what I found. But they joined back in with Cadillac running the Cadillac DPI-V.R. And Cadillac is looking for team to field Hypercars in both IMSA and WEC, and the teams they got to run in both series is Action Express and Chip Ganassi. And the only reason Ganassi could field a IMSA, WEC, IndyCar, and NASCAR teams, was again, having funding and full backing from Ford on the GT program for IMSA and WEC. And then of course massive success on the IndyCar side of things keeps that in even through Ganassi’s DP program, and then of course the merging with DEI helped on the NASCAR side kept that team alive. After Ford left, there’s was no way to keep the GT cars alive. So now with Ganassi wanting back into Sports Cars, looking and comparing at the success from each series Ganassi races in, IndyCar, out of the question for shut down with multiple Indy 500 wins and championships as well as current driver line up that win races, and again championships, this year proving it, where as NASCAR, the only big accomplishments there r the Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400 wins, as well as the win in the All-Star race. So kinda no choice but to close out that team. Especially since the charter prices r goin up. I feel like that’s gonna be a problem in the future. But anyway, Ganassi is definitely gonna be missed in NASCAR, and a team no one will ever forget. But I hate to admit it, it is for a good cause in another series that with the change will bring lots of attention after a while.
Plus they had a Xfinity Series team between 1995 to 2000 before Ganassi got involved. That team went to Terry Bradshaw's Xfinity Series team after 2000
Lol.. It's sad seeing CGR go, but I don't think it's sad enough to use the theme from Schindler's List in the opening. I'm just kidding. But hearing that music did catch me off guard.
NASCAR and Ganassi cancelling Kyle Larson single-handedly ended CGR. It was justified at the time for sure, but dropping a driver like Larson was definitely not going to help matters.
Imagine this. If Kenseth would’ve won the 2020 Brickyard 400. He would’ve joined Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt & Kevin Harvick as the only drivers to have won all nascar crown jewel races as well as a championship
The Stange thing is that I think some fans did not care about Larson's lil oops and saw it as unreasonable to go all out on him. Still got to Hendrick so don't really matter.

Plus they had a Xfinity Series team between 1995 to 2000 before Ganassi got involved. That team went to Terry Bradshaw's Xfinity Series team after 2000
Wow that was great 👍🏻
Nice touch using the _Schindler's List_ score 🎼
One of Spielberg's best
Great video pal 👍🏼
I completely forgot Sterling drove the 40 Dodge again after his release.
Yep. I'll admit, it slipped my mind too until I was in the research phase.
I was at the Atlanta race that kurt won but sucks last win for the team
Lol.. It's sad seeing CGR go, but I don't think it's sad enough to use the theme from Schindler's List in the opening. I'm just kidding. But hearing that music did catch me off guard.
As A Casey Mears fan I'll miss Ganassi
Great video, could you do a rise and fall of Evernham Motorsports?
One day, I will.
Great video!!
The Stange thing is that I think some fans did not care about Larson's lil oops and saw it as unreasonable to go all out on him. Still got to Hendrick so don't really matter.
Great video. One correction though. Sterling Marlin's car did not make contact with Dale Earnhardt's.
Chip ganassi racing don't worry about NASCAR just keep winning IMSA
Hey young man I don't know if you ever read any of these my name is Dave I'm 64 my wife and just divorce me and now I find out that she's got bone cancer and I just want to tell you being in a funky old apartment instead of at home I really really enjoy every one of your NASCAR things son. You have a right to really be proud of it I can look into some of these videos and it gets my mind off stuff so if you never read these comments. Because I know you're busy you really do a really good things more than just entertainment for somebody really going through a lot right now so coming into the holiday season I think I can say God bless u
David, that really means a lot to hear. I'm sorry to hear that things have not been going the best for you, but to hear that I am able to bring somewhat of a distraction from the troubles of everyday life really means a lot. That's all somebody like me can hope to hear when producing content like this. I say this at the end of all of my videos, but just know I mean it every time. Thanks so much for watching, and I hope you have a great day!
“Matt Kenseth retires again for now” had me laughing so hard.
