I was the guy at Dover in ‘21 that held the sign “Hendrick Motorsports Shall Rise Today!” And the HMS cars would finish 1-2-3-4 that same day I brought that sign. That day will always have a special place in my memory
You would think Jimmie Johnson, Dale Jr, Jeff Gordon, and Kasey Kane Mark Martin would've been the best team assembled but I have to say the team now is special 2 Champions and all winners and Championship contenders, Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, William Byron, Alex Bowman.
Geoff Bodine is certainly one of the most influential people in NASCAR *ever* , considering this & his safety advocacy climaxing with his truck series disintegration at Daytona.
In 1993 when Rick Hendrick was looking for a replacement driver in the 5, he first reached out to one Mark Martin, but Mark decided to stay in the 6, out of loyalty to Jack Rousch. I, as a huge Mark Martin fan look at that as a big missed opportunity, considering what Mark achieved in the 2nd tier equipment that Rousch had at the time. With him, Jeff Gordon, amd then later Jimmie Johnson, I don't think any other team would have stood a chance for a title for 2 decades. That 2009-2011 Hendrick Lineup was just crazy. You had the 2 best active drivers in terms of total championchips in Jeff and Jimmie, the most respected driver in the sport in Mark, and by far the most popular driver in the nation in Dale Jr. Any team owner who could.pull that line up has to be doing everything right.
Yep. Lowe's wanted to be on the 5 for a 5% off promotion they were running. Cool to see a one off number change and the brief return of the 25. Really wish I owned those diecasts.
It was Jeff Gordon's T-Rex car that won the 1998 All Star Race, not the 600 race, that stands out in my memory. Eventually, of course, winning three of the four Cup titles. One of best paint schemes ever.
You forgot quite a bit of number history, Dick Brooks ran the coke 600 in the 1 car in 1985 Brett Bodine ran the 2 in the same race in 86 Jim Fitzgerald ran the 51 at riverside in 1987 and Paul Newman withdrew from Watkins Glen in the same number Jimmy Means ran the 52 in the fall Charlotte race in 1987 Sarel Van De Merwe dnq’d at Daytona in 1988 Rob Moroso made his cup debut in 1987 in the 47 *Benny Parsons ran full time in Tim Richmond renumbered 35 ride in 1987* Kyle Petty ran the 42 at the coke 600 in 1989, yes ikr Tommy Kendall ran the 18 at Watkins Glen and Tommy Ellis dnq’d at Phoenix as part as the DoT project Greg Sacks ran the 46 and 18, Hut Stricklin ran the 51, and Stan Barrett ran the 18 in 1990, with Sacks almost winning at Talladega1 Al Unser Jr ran Daytona in the 46 in 1993 and Buddy Baker DQ’d at Talladega in the 46 Jeff Purvis ran the 58 in 1995 at the finale Jack Sprague dnq’d in the 59 in the same race Jack Sprague dnq’d in the 52 at Phoenix 1997 Jack Sprague again, ran the 60 car in a joint Haas venture in 2002 David Green and Brian Vickers ran the 60 in 2003 Kyle Busch the 84 in 2004 Terry Labonte ran the 44 between 2005 and 2004 part time
I focused primarily on the full time numbers, and while yes Benny would run the full season in 1987, it wasn’t a renumbered 25, as Richmond would make select starts in 87 with it. The 35 was to fulfill sponsorship obligations. Thanks for the additions!
More of the Did Not Mentions: Hendrick Motorsports Xfinity and Truck Series teams, Kyle Busch's number 87, 57, and 5; the 17 and 88 they currently run part-time, as well as numerous other drivers in Xfinity series Hendrick cars. In addition, you didn't mention Chase Elliott who drove late models, K&N pro series cars, and the number 94 truck and gave it its only victory, something his dad couldn't do in the cup series.
A memorable moment for Penske: Rusty Wallace’s Polish victory laps in 1993 and 2004. Also Ryan Blaney’s Charlotte Roval win 2018 A memorable moment for Roush Fenway Kesolowski racing: Matt Kenseth’s 2003 championship and Mark Martin’s ‘93’ runner up season
Hendrick Motorsports also won five pro stock championships in NHRA they went back to back championships in 1983,1984 and won three in a row championships in IHRA 1983,1984 and 1985 with the Reher-Morrison-Shepherd pro stock team chevy camaro...HendrickNation4Life.
If you do Jr Motorsports, here's a mention for you: Kevin Harvick in the 5. I mentioned it because he'll be filling in for Kyle Larson in the practice session for the North Wilkesboro All Star Race.
Yeah I was primarily looking at the full time numbers! He ran the 35 while Richmond was out to fulfill sponsorship obligations while keeping the 25 open should Richmond come back early. Thanks for watching!
Good video. Two thoughts (aside from my other comments): 1) HMS was more than just the technical advisor for the film and help with the cars, etc. The script was written based after a long dinner conversation at an Olive Garden between Geoff, Rick and Tom Cruise. Tom was so enthralled by the stories they told him that he went to Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer begging them to do a movie about NASCAR. 2) Geoff Bodine credited his crew chief Harry Hyde (who was the inspiration of Robert Duvall’s character in DoT) for the win at Martinsville. Harry, who many had written off as a has-been, begged Rick to let him come work for him and only asked for $500 a week. While Geoff may have got the credit for the win, it was Harry’s pleads to Rick that got them to that race. Without Harry, there is no HMS. P.S. If I need to cite my sources, let me know and I’ll send you the links.
Great Video! I didn't know Rick Hendrick had tried court Richard Perry or Dale Earnhardt to drive for him, when he first started the team it's kinda interest that both would win seven championships; Jimmie Johnson would also win the same number championships with Hendrick as his car owner.

Now a Martin Truex Jr fan since Kenseth retired. I think certain teams need Xfinity episodes as well. Like Gibbs for instance. Have a cup episode and an xfinity episode. And of course Chance 2/Jr Motorsports for xfinity.

Didn’t Hendrick run the 46 too? I know Al Unser jr started the 1993 Daytona 500, it looked like he borrowed a back up schrader car. I always assumed that was Hendrick too
There is another bit of history for the 46, Jeff Gordon was going to run that 46 but the studio behind the movie Days of thunder wouldn't allow Hendrick to race the 46 with Jeff Gordon and that why Hendrick used the 24 instead.
Gordon’s last win at Martinsville has to be a big moment. Got him qualified for the championship 4 that year (where he actually led a few laps before Kyle Busch decided to be super (candy) man and whoop everyone’s butt) Other’s include Johnson’s 5th straight championship (no one beats that record) his record-tying 7th championship, Gordon’s inaugural Brickyard win, and you can probably throw in Labonte’s last win at Darlington too considering he’s in the HoF and won a title for the team.

Who gets 312 prior to seasons end?
Larson has 22 wins at Hendrick as of winning in Bristol two weeks ago alongside the 2021 cup series championship In total of 28 career wins and counting
I know one record any HMS driver will never break that's Richard Petty winning 200 wins in his career I don't believe they'll ever be a NASCAR driver to ever break that record.😊 Might be why they calling the King!
Great organization. To bad the #9 team has fallen off this season. Enough talent to win a championship, but this season something is missing. Not sure if it’s a team management or personnel issue. But the chemistry just hasn’t worked well this year. Rumor has it as JG has too much of a hand in the #5 and #9 teams. That he is overruling the teams in areas like setup and organization. A lot of pressure at that #9 team. Pressure to perform at a very high level on the part of the driver and the crew. Maybe RH is regretting some of the contract extensions on that team?

You forgot about Benny Parsons in the #35. He had 6 Top-5's in 1987 including a runner-up at the Daytona 500.
Jeff winning at martinsville in his final full time season to make the championship 4 was definitely a memorable moment
It definitely is, a great memory of mine!
Jimmie winning Homestead in 2016.
Geoff Bodine is certainly one of the most influential people in NASCAR *ever* , considering this & his safety advocacy climaxing with his truck series disintegration at Daytona.
I agree 100%!
Bodine never got the credit and recognition he deserves
No championship...ran trucks for a long time..

That is a great moment for sure!

He only had second tier equipment because of NASCAR catering to Government Motors and the cheating convict
A cool alternate timeline regardless
It was a plane crash, not a helicopter crash in 2004. Jimmy won at Martinsville then next week at Atlanta three other Hendrick cars had engine trouble
I was at Charlotte when Casey Mears won the Coke 600 on fuel milage i think, and Jr lost one on fuel milage 2011 i think.
As of today, Hendrick Motorsports now have 301 race wins over 40 years in this business.

I know one record any HMS driver will never break that's Richard Petty winning 200 wins in his career I don't believe they'll ever be a NASCAR driver to ever break that record.😊 Might be why they calling the King!
Absolutely why he got that name!
28 NXS wins and the 2003 NXS title now
You really didn't butcher the replacement for DW as bad as you think.
Sarel Van da Merv would be the best way to phonetic spell it.
Oh dang, I was close!
Love this content! Keep it homie
Love having you around! Thanks homie!
How many daytona 500's has Hendrick Motorsports won and who has the most in the team?
I believe they have won 7 500’s, 3 with Jeff, 2 with Jimmie, 1 with Waltrip and 1 with Jr. Am I missing any?
@@DoglegMediaMatt Geoff bodine won one as well in 1986 for hendrick
Hendrick Motorsports are the best team in the world.
Do Team Penske please, Great job Btw!
Thanks!

You Forgot About The 84 That Kyle Busch Ran
I definitely did, while I was mostly looking at full time rides, this is true!
Wym Noah needs help😂 they just found an excuse to get JHN in the 42, and Noah’s career was the expense of that. Legacy is what needs the help
Definitely a theory lol

Great organization. To bad the #9 team has fallen off this season. Enough talent to win a championship, but this season something is missing. Not sure if it’s a team management or personnel issue. But the chemistry just hasn’t worked well this year. Rumor has it as JG has too much of a hand in the #5 and #9 teams. That he is overruling the teams in areas like setup and organization. A lot of pressure at that #9 team. Pressure to perform at a very high level on the part of the driver and the crew. Maybe RH is regretting some of the contract extensions on that team?
I think Alan and Chase are getting stale like Chad and Jimmie got.
Hendrick Motorsports Is the goat 🐐
They definitely have a RICH history!
💙💛🏁🏆🏁💛💙 Go Chase go !
Update, Half of HMS missed the playoffs
Do one about Penske
It’s coming don’t worry!
lets gooo
Yeeeeeeeee 😎🔥
Robert Yates Racing
Im sure Jimmie will eventually get the rights to the #48 and the #25 will make a comeback
That would be a dream haha
Probably not as long as Ally is the sponsored though I would like to see the 25 return though for Bowman
16:55 nah noah shouldn't ever have a ride again
I’m a believer in second chances. Just look at Larson
He shouldn't have been let go to start with
Sup hello
Hey Duddle!
When the 17 would fill his frail rails with buckshot to get through prerace inspection and weighing when dump them on the track in the grass during the race to loose and couple of hundred pounds
I have heard this story!
