Further more it can prompt further diagnostic investigations such as renal ultrasound, dipstick, culture which would further narrow the diagnosis. Its important to distinguish renal colic pain from acute back pain which could allude to more serious pathologies such as Aortic dissection, disc herniation which could lead to cauda equina.
