Google Pixel 8a - Everything You Need To Know

- The Google Pixel "A" series has always been that knight in shining armor that has served the lineup in expanding its reach. It's no secret that even if all companies need the bragging rights of a flagship, the best sellers are always the mid-rangers. For Samsung it's the A series, for Apple it's the base models. The Pixel A has always been different, though. It's always been priced as more of an entry-level phone than a mid-ranger, and surely cutting some corners in the hardware, but then pushing down the flagship features into a more affordable price-range. It's why it's always been so popular.. But, in the past. The fact that the Pixel 8 didn't reach the Pixel 8 Pro AI features was already a bad indication that this would be the first year that the A series might get short-changed. I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow, and it's time for another deep dive.

In my opinion the A series should stay under 500$ and that's pushing it, really should stay under 400$
That's not gonna happen 😂
yeah i agree. it should just have a solid camera and that's it. if you're getting the A version, you don't care or need the high specs of the other models.
They always have been. They go on sale like a week after they come out. Pixel 7A has been $374.99 on Amazon basically since launch for the most part.
Agree. I was a Pixelhead only because of the cheap 4a price. If they keep rising in price, why would I stick around?
In canada its 679 lol
Parents have the Pixel 4a and love it. Hope the 8a is an amazing upgrade for them.
Just upgraded my parents 4a's to 7a's and it's been wonderful
That was a great phone. Loved the Pixel 4A. Loved my Pixel 6A too. Seems like the A-series always seems to work more flawless out of the box
I still have my 4a and it's the best pixel ever made. Considering cameras, design, build, hardware features (absolutely no useless gimmicks like glass back, high refresh, wireless charging, 5G..) and price. And I'm saying this as a pixel 8 user.
Day to day using the 8 feels no different from the 4a. Glass back and wireless charging are useless when you have a case on. There's no real 5G anywhere in the world unless you live in the middle of New York or something I'm guessing. High refresh rate screens don't matter to the majority of the population's eyes and that's why iphones still don't have them.
4a is also lighter, sleeker than the 8 and way thinner bezels than the 6a, 7a..
Cool 👍🏼 But what I hope even more is that small smartphones will be built again. A 9a 5.5 inch with just the best possible camera and enough battery and oh definitely not an Exynos processor but a Snapdragon!
@@anthonywilliams9415 not completely factual, but the a series of pixels are fantastic phones
Nice to see you!
Missed you too
A discounted P8 is close to $500 😅😅😅
No it's not. I got one at peak discount last month for 620 including tax
I don't like the glass backs and glossy finishes. The pixel 8A is fantastic
I would recommend the ixel 9 have the snap dragon 8 gen 4
Pixel 9 pro snap dragon 8 gen 4
And continue the in house chip tensor 4 to be in the pixel 9a .
That way they coupd continue to develop the chip and see offer it at a better price .
If it does come with 120hz, I might debate upgrading from my 7 (which is my secondary). I was close to upgrading to the 8 a few times but couldn't get myself to do it. Waiting to see how the trade in values are to make a decision.
It's mind boggling to me how Motorola is maxxing out at 160hz on their Razr Ultra model and yet budget phones still costing £400 are still on 60/90hz. Poco have put 120hz in phones worth £200 so it's doable. If you can adapt the latest screen technology for your intended price point when why wouldn't you? It's just one more incentive for people to buy your product.
@@AlexHurleyMusic 90 Hertz screen to perfectly fine more than adequate
Cool 👍🏼 But what I hope even more is that small smartphones will be built again. A 9a 5.5 inch with just the best possible camera and enough battery and oh definitely not an Exynos processor but a Snapdragon!
i'd be happy if the (a) version doesn't have ai at all and drops the price down further. headphone jack and that would be perfect.
15w wireless is not the standard? Samsung had that for several years. Even my old wireless charger has that.
A series not really worth it imo. Last year you could get a new pixel 7 at 7a's launch for the same price as 7a at some retailers
TG3 fits 8A but it doesn't really fit flagship of 8Pro
It's a forgone conclusion they're going to want more for all of the pixels then we're willing to pay....
what phones are on the screen at 3:11 ?
What happened to Zoom Enhance for Pixel 8/8Pro?
Can’t wait to see all 2 of these in the wild lol
5:12 giving 8a , 8 pros exclusive features makes no sense. Would devalue the 8 base model
Love the shirt. 80s kid here
Who is the jerk that thought the scratching sound would be a cool idea?
Man, the pixel a series has always been good. I hope Google continues making them.
hope they did with the snapdragon 🥲
it would have been perfect
after two weeks of using 7a i could not use it anymore and sent it back. the battery was horrible even with all the bells and whistles disabled. tensor is very bad, google should get rid of it. too bad, i really miss the camera, at that price it is the best on the market. i bet 8a will also have bad battery.
So no 8a until summer? I think I will just buy the 7a then
While I can't wait for the Pixel 9 Pro, I also will be sad to see my Bay Blue go away. 😕 Love the color.
For the life of me, how come you ain't done a OnePlus 12 hands on review??
The real problem is Tensor Chip = Exynos Chip.
Exynos is overheating, low efficient processor. If they release a pixel with SD PROCESSOR it will sell.
8 pro user here for a few months. Zero overheating issues
@@BAMTech22 It's very inefficient tho
@@erikpoephoofd handles every day apps exactly the same as every other phone I've had since 2020.
@@BAMTech22 Inefficient as in, it burns through battery. I have to charge my 7a very often before the day ends
@@erikpoephoofd well you are on tensor 2 and not tensor 3. Just like how the 8 gen 2 was a.major step above the 8 gen 1 so is the same for tensor 2 and 3.
I would happily have a 90hz screen and the same charging speed, if we could get a bigger battery instead
(compared to 7a)
The Pixel 8a should have the AI features.
in my opinion, it shouldn't have any ai features to drop the price further.
You sound almost like Marek Drives.
All I expect from the A is getting the same camera and chip from the main model. That's it.
How many years of software updates will it get?
really no use of making a tier 3 phone that costs more then 500 ...
i wouldnt mind a google pixle but i cant stand the camera bump/belt
It's a dead in the water model for most users except as a free upgrade from a carrier
that frame changing sound effect is disturbing
Its weird , pixel a is now actually becoming the Pixel 9 and the Iphone base models are becoming more better than the Iphone Pro models with better colors and 1 less Camera. People are opting out to just get the base models iphones now ,knowing they dont actually need the ONE MORE CAMERA ANYMORE WIERD ASF
This one more camera Is much more usefull than the crappy 1/3.6 inch ultrawide that had been there since the iphone 11
No shot dude, if anything the majority of people go straight for the pro models, because what's another $200 when you're basically already at a grand for the base models.
my biggest complain Against pixel is
wifi reception and calls (well atleast here in my country)
its terrible
Too big.. should be 5.8"... theres not enough small phones out there.. was so annoying when they jumped to 6.4" with the pixel 6
If you stay runed to special discounts you can get a Pixel 7 for like 300$
Where I live you can buy the 8 pro for $350
Refurbished phones are the way
I hate giving company's my money for small upgrades like seven years of updates
If I even think about keeping a phone for seven years kill me
That's how much i paid for your mother 😜
@a1000island I don't see the point in getting a new phone if your current one works. I've had my current phone since 2020 and it still works great.
The matte look is amazing that glossy look is tacky and i hate it .
My pixel 4a is only just starting to show it's ware and tear. The A series is a blessing.
just put a snapdragon 7 gen 3 in it lol, tensor is hot garbage
*Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Tensor = Exynos = Crap 💩
When Google goes back to using SD I’ll consider another purchase. I haven’t bought a new Pixel since the 4XL.
Pixel 4 series was legendary
Based on your analysis, what do you think will be the key selling points or unique advantages of the Pixel 8a compared to other mid-range smartphone offerings from competitors?
This is a very good question I hope he answers.
Well, that's the problem. If the price is no longer there, and competitors like OnePlus are doing AI without restrictions, and Tensor lacks gaming chops, and computational photography is already well handled by most in the $500 range, then sadly, there is no competitive advantage.
Unless this is a $250 to $300 phone. Just because this is a tensor chip phone
Lack of RAM to support P8Pro AI features
The ai happens on cloud, hardware limitation is BS, they just don t want to cannibalize the 8 and 8 pro
@@damont4204 someone compared P8 and P8Pro. P8 uses a lite version of AI because it has smaller RAM size
Pixel 6a is vry gud
dont care about the peasant version of last years phone. google needs to drop the fold2 already
Alternative to pixel is moto
Too thick for prime time. It needs to be thinner.
The only reason I don't buy a pixel is because I own a OnePlus. Google is ticking all the right boxes
I wouldn’t waste money on pixel 8a
I have pixel 6a, 6, 6 pro and OnePlus ace 2pro😅
I have the 6a myself. It was a upgrade from my Pixel 4xl. I only had to replace it because the screen died on it. Apparently that was a common issue with that one. I have had two friends get that issue as well.
Got a Pixel 6a for the camera. I broke the screen and got a replacement and I was planning to stick with it until the end of the year but I got another crack in the corner. I'm clumsy af. 😅 Will probably go Pixel 8 when I upgrade tho.
And you are a liar
Pixel 6A was a great phone
Get back to work. I forgot all about your channel when I use to religiously wait for a episode to pop up on my feed
How many people do you think will still be using the Pixel 8 series in seven years' time?
Haha you’d be shocked at how many people I still see with an iPhone 6
Apple has a much stronger user base than Google. Literal apples to oranges comparison (no pun intended).
Many because they are not into switching every yeare or two.
I'll answer. No one. But 5 years, more than you think in my opinion. With the horrenous Tensor G3, the Pixel 8 won't even be usable in 7 years time
I sold mine after 6 months of use. Outside the camera, it was trash.
Pixel 8 right now is around 500 USD. Don't know the point of releasing an inferior phone at the same price.
5:28 I see nothing wrong with limiting certain Ai features on the Google Pixel 8a series. Besides having the privilege to use your phone smoothly without any lags then what other meaningful benefits to using your phone after surfing the net and capturing photos. This is where Ai will saved the day by bringing meaningful and useful features that supply tangible benefits to users. I say all that to say that limiting the features for the lower budget Pixel phone is justified because you pay for what you can afford. 😎💯💪🏿👍🏿
You can buy 2 poco x6 pro 12Gb and a 8gb ram with the price of this phone 😅 they call this budget hahahahaha..
You are right. And then your phone, Poco X6, works half a year. A year if you are lucky. Good luck with such shitty phones.
@@BearShepherdI still have a Poco X3 Pro that still works well
Paying more for less features. Nope.

The bezels look hideous. It's 2024, stop giving us chunky bezels!
What about iphone se 😂😂😂😂 stupid
No SD card slot on Pixel is no use to me! 😳
🤣🤣🤣🤣 you’re gonna have to join the 2020s at some point my friend 😉
Looks like the pixel 8A is gonna be a downgrade from the 7A.
I just bought a pixel 7. The A series have become 🤡
That's a piece of crap. The regular 8 is already incapable of running their own AI software. So this things gonna be a joke.
this is e-waste.
😅😅😅
Paying more and that laughable Tensor! It's safe to say it's about to tank as bad as last year's and every other hyped half-baked Pixel. Hell, looking at the leaked desperate Pixel iClone 9, I'd get ready for even more Google graveyard products and layoffs 💯😂

Pixel 8 is trash!! The network drop is horrendous.. Do not buy a Pixel!
