Hi Justine and followers. A few tips about broccoli. First up this recipe works way better if the broccoli is cut smaller. Also it really really helps to lightly cook and cool the broccoli first (microwave is fine). Easier to eat, better colour, better flavour. Finally when you cut off the stems you should slice thinly and cook with the rest of the broccoli. No waste. Tastes good too.
Edited to add, thanks for using some good broccoli, and not just frozen cut stalks.🤗 Never been one for raw broccoli or any raw veggies for that matter but I know they are more nutritious. I wonder if it was cooked would it taste good being mayo turns to an oil once melted (there was a chicken recipe I used to make that used mayo and it was really yummy).🤔
You can lightly boil your broccoli to your desired crispness and drain it well and let it cool. Then add your dressing so you don't have a gloppy mess.
Justine, that looks sooo delicious. The wife and I love broccoli. This is a must build for us. This shows the difference between good cooks like u and pretend cooks like me. U r able to measure out ingredients by just looking at them. I have to go get measuring spoons and cups. Ur RUclips channel is the best ever.
@@emmel4fun Emmel, thanks for clarifying that. I've never really paid much attention to what the wife does when she's cooking or baking. I spose I'll start watching more closely. 😊
@@tonywyant8957You should because Justine is not as good as you think she is, she is bottom of the barrel when it comes to making food. Not being mean, but totally honest.
Broccoli 🥦 is one of the best veggies, in the world. Don’t over cook when making it can get mushy! And like Justine did it is cold but cut smaller in peices, it’s better yo digest! 👍
Not a fan of raw broccoli 🥦 my husband eats it! So I make a salad for him! 🥗🍴it’s very healthy my son makes broccoli for my grand daughter and daughter in law he likes to cook. ❤🍽️it’s their very favorite vegetable! 🥦
You have a beautiful kitchen and lots of counter space. You have a lot of room to mix the dressing in the measuring cup without having to put it on the cheese. On the upside, this salad looks very tasty and I'm so glad to see you using fresh ingredients.
Powder garlic it’s not fresh this salad it’s not healthy at all. Bacon, cheese, mayo, powder garlic. I use fresh garlic for everything. I don’t mind peeling it. Also agree why would she put that measuring up right on top of the cheese. That’s gross. Loved the onion and Broccoli. The ingredients you had to the Broccoli and red onion makes it unhealthy. Arteries clogged with too many unhealthy fat.
@@lamasmimadadelbronx I use fresh garlic, too, but for some things the powder is good. Unfortunately cheese, mayo and sour cream are high in fat but as a dressing it probably isn't too bad. You can also hold back on the quantity. I would use turkey bacon or omit it because I don't eat pork.
@@Linda-in9ns Linda, I think that would be too much sour cream....but if you're going to do it....I would add some Ken's sweet vidalia onion dressing to cut down on the tang.
You definitely should've chopped that broccoli smaller, and pre shredded cheese has wood pulp in it,to keep it from sticking together, y'all don't be lazy and just shred your cheese
I don't mean to be a party pooper. Yes, that is a pun, and you will see why. Raw broccoli contains raffinose. It's a type of sugar that our gut bacteria ferments to digest and causes gas and bloating. Some herbs and spices can reduce the fermentation, as does cooking it. If that tastes as good as it looks, the whole office is going to be farting some smelly air. Lol 😆 🤣 😂 the more you know. Peace and Ahev
@@kims1941I add a bit more to mine than they original recipe I followed and any get together they are gone quick. Everyone is asking about them and will not stop eating them. My hubbies bday was the 22nd and we had a party, I used my 12 qt crock pot and they were gone all besides 1 small bowl.😭
The measuring cup is clean, inside and out. I never understood the addition of vinegar and sugar into dressing, they cancel each other and do not thin out the dressing. Also many times the sugar makes the dressing grainy. My Mother never added vinegar or sugar and everyone raved about her potato salad and macaroni salad.
@@KitKat-1975You're welcome! I''m really picky about cole slaw and absolutely hate just the 100% mayo based kind. I mix the sugar and apple cider vinegar into the mayo and so much better.😋

@@emmel4funOh ok, thank you, that's what I was thinking but just wasn't sure.😊
I've been aware of this broccoli recipe since 1990 but have never seen a rendition with sour cream. Many people add raisins.
It would be good with raisins.
That was my suggestion as well...black or yellow raisins and walnuts or pecans
I have to try this!!
Triple cheddar 3 x is a tongue twister. 😂. I can only say it once

You don't need to measure for cooking. It's more necessary in baking breads and pastries because the measurements need to be more precise.

This is actually better the next day, and the broccoli does soften somewhat after being soaked in the dressing overnight.
@@Linda-in9ns You can also try blanching it so it will still hold it's texture but not be completely raw.

It needs to all be mixed in a huge bowl. Aluminum pans are not for mixing.
Cool
PLEASE STOP THE BAGGED SHREDDED CHEESE!!!!
I would cook the broccoli to Al dente and add chopped walnuts and golden raisins. Chill for 4-24 hours
Me too, I like broccoli cooked a bit, brighten the broccoli and soften a bit
Yum!
Absolutely tender and yummy
Same...would use the yellow raisins and walnuts or pecans
