Just picked up the IBEX 800 T on 7/12/23. It's great bike! I've already done about 450 miles on it. I traded up from a KTM 390 Adventure that I did about 3500 miles on in 9 months. Both great machines, but I needed something bigger for the long distance freeway stints to get to the mountains.
Ibex all day every day and twice on weekends, if Ibex or Transalp I would think twice.. but in the end I think I will still choose Ibex cause' it got cruise control as standard.
Firstly, great review of the bikes. Secondly CF Moto have released another version called the explorer. It has traction control and totally user customisable modes where everything can be turned off. It has a larger TFT screen and even has rear blind spot radar. Comes in at a 1000 bucks more expensive but now I don't think there is another bike on the market which can compete for value for money. Ride safe 👍
This has been a hot topic in the Ibex 800 Facebook groups! I wanted a Triumph Tiger... Went with the CFMOTO and saved thousands... not the same bike but still great! I added a ZUMO XT2 GPS mounted to an aftermarket bar right above the TFT Display and hard wired to the bike... SHAD cases, Windshield extender from Amazon and took off all the yellow stickers. LOVE IT
@@SWTrailsAndWheels Resale comparison is only meaningful for vehicles in the same price bracket. Jay mentioned Triumph Tiger. That's $26k new in Australia. A 3 year old one is $16k (38% less, which is typical). The $15k CF Moto would have to be worth $5k in 3 years (66% less) for the same $10k "loss" on purchase price. Maybe that could happen if they are utter crap, but you can't lose more on it than on a more popular (and far more expensive) brand because of the low purchase price. Low purchase price is insurance against losing badly at sale time.
I got a 2019 650Nk for AU$6000 incl on road costs and 1 year rego. I can sell that bike for $4,500-$5,500 today. Trade in is $3,000 (spoke to dealer today). Seems fine for a 4 year old bike to loose less than 50% of value (trade-in) in 4 years. Part of a group and a guy has similar bike to mine and have done almost 80,000km with no major issues. Only a chain, water pipe and one other minor thing. Only issue is the refinement is not quite there but it's something I get used to. Wen't to test ride the 2023 Explorer today and will be picking a new one up next week.
@@ouroesa Nice to hear about that reliability. I saw a 650 NK at Frasers Newcastle today while checking out the 800MT Explore. Both look like "mature" kits for what we've been used to from CFM in the past. I reckon I'll get the white Explore as well, with the aluminium pannier set. I imagine you'll get that free $999 extras kit with yours? Bloke at the shop said fitting is extra and didn't know a price but couldn't be more than a couple of hundred.
@SWTrailsAndWheels as a Ducati owner. My 2016 monster has very little if any at all more value used then an MT09. Furthermore people are scared of it because of the past history of ducati being so expensive to maintain. I was trying to sell mine and gave up.
Pretty funny listening to comments about traction control and rider modes. After 38 years of riding I still haven't owned a bike with ABS, let alone the rider modes. Not that I have anything against that stuff, the bikes I've bought just didn't have it. And it wasn't a requirement. Ibex seems like a solid bargain for the money. Great video.

The Ducati is 50% more money than the ibex. That’s like a Honda accord vs Mercedes! Even with the price disparity, cf moto know how to build bikes with added value. I bought a Clx700 sport earlier this year and I love it.
Got myself a Desert X 2 months agon completely agree with you on all the points. My butt hurts even faster though. On the first rides it took me 3-4 hours to start suffering, now it's 1.5-2hours... Will probably be looking for a better seat very soon.
Potential buyers of the Desert X more than likely would be comparing ithe Duc with the 850 GS, 890 Adventure, Tiger 900, Norden 901, and Ducati's own Multistrada 950/V2. How about comparing the Ibex 800 T with the Tuareg 660, Tenere 700, Trans Alp 750, Kove 800 X and 800 DE?
This is an odd comparison. Comparing a 17k premium brand 50/50 adv bike with a 21/18 wheel set with a 10.5k bike with a more touring style adv with a 19/17 wheel set🤷🏾♂️. My 2c
Nah... comparing a motorcycle to a tree would be an odd comparison. Comparing adventure bikes at different price points is useful. Both look pretty ridiculous and will live out their lives on fire roads and highways.
all the gizmos and the tech have been answered by CF Moto 800 Explore. It should be a direct comparison between the CF Moto Explore vs Ducati Desert X instead of the 800T. However, the Explore commands a much higher price compared to 800T. Approximately CAD 14k
@@raymondjumaquio37 the suspension hasn’t been upgraded. Just the dash and traction control. Still has 19/17 wheel set. It’s better but it’s still an adventure touring bike as apposed to a 50/50 bike even in it’s “explore”iteration.
With all the respect in the world and understanding that you are someone new to motorcycles and without off-road experience, the basis for determining the U$6,000 should not be: the plastic buttons, the support leg, the seat, the sound of the exhaust and how much wind protects the windshield!! The biggest difference between these motorcycles and where the U$6000 is noticeable is on dirt roads, in how the suspension of the motorcycle behaves, how its weight affects them on different roads. There's the money! And regarding your concern about traction control, most will tell you that on off-road it is better to remove the traction control!! I say that the main difference is that the Ducatti desert is 40% off-road and 60% on-road, and the CFMOTO 800 Touring are 10% off-road. Hopefully, you will surely have a good trip on rural roads, but with caution. Finally, what really makes a motorcycle ride well on any terrain is the rider, not the motorcycle itself...
Went on a test ride of the Ibex 800 and 800T over the weekend. Both versions had plenty of power, brakes were decent, I did like the suspension and the bike was comfortable and overall I liked both bikes. What I didn't like were only two rider modes, Rain and Sport. In Sport the throttle was very snatchy. At low speeds the throttle was either on or off, nothing in between when trying to ride through the parking lot and on slow street speeds. For any off road treks, you would need to turn off the TC which is not possible. If they add more ride modes with an offroad, sport, street and rain modes, I would definitely consider buying one. I currently ride a Tiger 800.
The Ibex gives you so much value for your money. I got to test ride one and that engine sound is so good. You should know that there is another Ibex model coming down the pipeline called the "Explorer Edition" which adds many of the missing features you mentioned, plus Apple Carplay and a bigger TFT.
The only reason I have not bought an ibex yet is I'm waiting for the Explorer package to come to America. Fingers crossed the 2024 model has it otherwise I'm buying a husky
In Europe, in Romania, the CFMOTO can be had for half the price of the Ducati, and with 5 year warranty on top of that. Also we have the Explore version wich comes with a 8" TFT, ABS can be turned off, more driving modes, Michelin ADV tires etc.
It’s not just a 6k MSRP difference. The cost of ownership on the Ducati will far exceed the cost of ownership on the CF Moto. I think the Ducati is a better looking and better performing bike but I’d end up with the CF Moto. The accessories that come with the CF Moto would be thousands of added cost on the Ducati.
Not having traction control for off road is a negative? It’s one of the reasons that some bikes have the ability to turn it off. As proper off road riding with traction control will just be annoying and prevent the rider from getting everything out of the bike. Dirt bikes don’t have traction control for a good reason.
If the Ducati was, lets say $15,000 out the door (as optioned in the video), then I'd be a buyer no question. As it stands, the CFMoto is definitely the better option as far as price is concerned. I look at it like comparing an Acura to a Mercedes. Both work just fine. One just has a slightly more premium fit and finish and a price tag to match. As the Donut Media guys say, "More expensive doesn't always mean more better."

Then again I would have forked more for the Africa T 18liter one. Had a great offer for the Africa, 15k EUR, fully stocked with everithing, I believe even the better suspensions from touratech were included and the dealer agreed to change the tubed rims for the tubeless ones.
I agree with your evaluations, but Dude! What did you do in all the years before ABS and Traction control? I have a 2013 GS with most of that stuff and I’ve never touched them. Just ride it! Great review though.
I test rode the IBEX 800T and loved it on the highway but I would be reluctant to attempt any real off road beyound CLASS 3 and would strive to keep it Class 2 because of its top heavy center of gravity and heavy weight. Class 1 and a little Class 2 stuff would be ok but be careful trying anything like loose rocks steep ravines etc its no dirt bike.
In Australia we have fixed the mapping issue and it’s like a new bike compared to the old mapping bike. Pickup is a lot faster and the power range is smooth now

Thanks for the great videos; I just do not agree with the lean sensitive ABS...I also own a IBEX [and I'm very happy with it], but in the owner's manual - pg142 - it states: "ABS is a safety system that prevents locking of the wheels when driving straight ahead without the influence of lateral forces"..
Honestly, the current batch of Ducati twins just don't sound all that great. I know emmisions regs and what not are mostly to blame, but the shorter stroke 2023 bikes just don't have the bass of the older Vee Twins.
OC I really really want a ibex. Because price point is huge and I know an adv bike is where I'll be most at home for riding position and usability. At 6'5" with 36" inseam after riding a BMW gsa on a demo day and I was on my toes I was hooked. I just don't have the blood for BMW currently

Have you discussed this throttle play with the dealership? I feel like they worked it out, because I’ve ridden two desert x’s to test. 1 in Jakarta and 1 in Italy. Neither of those bikes had the issue..
I think you have it wrong on trying to justify any motorcycle, that is always way down the list. Motorcycles are always want vs need. I didn't need a Kawasaki KH350 in 1983, couldn't justify any of the 30+ motorcycles I've had since then, but I wanted them all. I wanted a Desert Sled, but that seat is way too tall for me, went with a 2019 BMW F 850 GS with factory lowering kit instead. 1500 miles in the last 4 weeks and still can't justify it.
Hi there! And how about handlebar wobble at higher speeds? What do you have to say? I'm about to buy this model and I've been reading a lot about this model, but what worries me the most is this behavior! Greetings from Potugal!
IBEX all day everyday, Ducati parts and maintenance cost a fortune. Now if were between the IBEX and Africa Twin that would be really hard decision for me....
You dont buy a ducati because of specsheets, you buy it because you want a ducati. Also you are forgetting the actual competition for this bike is Tuareg 660, Teneree 700 and Vstrom650/800. You could add bikes like Tiger 900 and F850GS but they come at a very premium price compared to those 3 mentioned before. Africa twin is borderline comparable but i would compare it more with the big ADVs.
I've recently purchased the new KTM 790 Adventure (sadly for you not available in the US) which is basically the CFMoto but designed as per the 890...from an adventure bike comparison, that's an even stronger case made for cheaper is actually better imo.
After 14000km I absolute love my Desertx but I agree with you about the throttle : the little dead zone at the start is really annoying. It would be nice if Ducati fix this little issue . But other than this I'd sure buy it again .
Bro, this bike is $10,499 MSRP not $11k. You would know that if you didnt get the bike and all the accessories for FREE. Disclosure of that would be nice 👍 I do like the bike BTW.
Review not so helpful for what I was looking for, I am not going on the dirt, and I don't think this is a bike designed to be on the dirt either, I am mainly looking at this bike as a touring bike, and would have love to hear your experience on this bike as such. It seems like you just went on a tangent about your disappointment on this bike because it is not as great of an off roarer as the dessert X which is not the point of this bike.
Really? Some road driving comparison with ADV bikes and a Desert X that leans heavily towards serious Enduro tracks? As an almost 50/50 offroad driver I can tell you Ducati is worth every single cent of it - if you can afford it. But you don't have to trust on my verdict; just check out the videos of some pro guys really generating some dust with it... Plus on the road it is for sure the top-choice among all ADV bikes. Greetings from Europe!
Eh, they're both 500+ lb tanks that couldn't shake an xt250 if the trail got technical. That extra suspension only helps the Ducati for pulling over to the shoulder when the service engine light comes on. Both bikes are a hard pass and both take a major hit on resale.
You 💯 road tested “ADV” bikes. Not even a dusty road! Me thinks you are not qualified to review these bikes or certainly did not do a good review for this one. Sorry man.

I agree with your evaluations, but Dude! What did you do in all the years before ABS and Traction control? I have a 2013 GS with most of that stuff and I’ve never touched them. Just ride it! Great review though.
Can you do s comparison with the cfmoto300nk with the likes of the mt03?
Love my 300nk and the 70mpg I get 😂
wonder if that space in the desert x throttle would help off-road so its not so touchy when your getting flailed around
Will the ibex eat the cam like the ktm version?
Did they fix the 4000 to 5000 RPM range fueling? Great video
Pickup is a lot faster and the power range is smooth now
At dealerships, or aftermarket?
@@andrewpeter6128 at dealership
You guys just uploading a new map? Any recommendation on which tool your using ?
Kiwi spec bike gets traction control, and the off road settings do give options on traction and asb settings. Was getting a KTM890, a mate told me about cfmoto, i own the cfmoto 😁🏍️
Still changing the exhaust system on the IBEX ?
OC: I think my pick would be the CFMoto Papio XO-1 modded to go on longer trips....but thats just me 😅
ADV Ruckus?
@@ctrlaltowned5223 the only issue I have with the ADV ruckus is the lack of power of the GET engine. If set up correctly it would be a fun bike for small adventures
Indeed the Papio is the best in the CFMoto lineup!
Wait till you guys see the new CF 800MT - X
just hit the shops here in China last week. .
Hopefully will be on offer next year outside China.
As others mentioned the 2025 version of the 800 IBEX has added lots more goodies that you mention are missing
OC
I really really want a ibex. Because price point is huge and I know an adv bike is where I'll be most at home for riding position and usability. At 6'5" with 36" inseam after riding a BMW gsa on a demo day and I was on my toes I was hooked. I just don't have the blood for BMW currently
Did you end up getting it? I’m getting mine in next few days, that thing fit perfectly on me and it is so comfortable. For $8.5k on sale 23’ Ibex S.
@@djessbolan not yet, haven't found one locally to check out and trying to lineup other aspects of life first. Between wedding and buying a house bike is a back burner thing
The latest iteration has traction control and abs you can turn off front and back
OC I'll be picking up a new Tiger 900 in a few weeks... I picked that over all the other choices.
Have you discussed this throttle play with the dealership? I feel like they worked it out, because I’ve ridden two desert x’s to test. 1 in Jakarta and 1 in Italy. Neither of those bikes had the issue..
Add spacers
Ibex will have those features next year.
Always remember that the Ibex has thr bones of a KTM 790
Hi there! And how about handlebar wobble at higher speeds? What do you have to say? I'm about to buy this model and I've been reading a lot about this model, but what worries me the most is this behavior! Greetings from Potugal!
I experienced that but the issue was a poorly setup suspension. Once I had the suspension adjusted as it should have been it's been golden ever since.
@@chaseontwowheels Bi. Which kind of setup? Preload? Front+rear or only rear? Thanks a lot!
Has steering dampener.
This isn’t actually true on the DesertX or new Ducati ADVs.
We really need to get you on a r1250gs. If you want to come to Tampa, or pay for a night in a hotel for me you can ride mine. 23 r1250gs adventure.
I've recently purchased the new KTM 790 Adventure (sadly for you not available in the US) which is basically the CFMoto but designed as per the 890...from an adventure bike comparison, that's an even stronger case made for cheaper is actually better imo.
KTM 790 adv "basically the CFMoto..." 😅😅😅
Yeah, and a Porsche is basically a LADA.
@@tinozampano the new 790 is literally being manufactured by CF Moto in the same facility...
These 2 bikes are not comparable.
After 14000km I absolute love my Desertx but I agree with you about the throttle : the little dead zone at the start is really annoying. It would be nice if Ducati fix this little issue . But other than this I'd sure buy it again .
This can be fixed with a spacer
Bro, this bike is $10,499 MSRP not $11k. You would know that if you didnt get the bike and all the accessories for FREE. Disclosure of that would be nice 👍 I do like the bike BTW.
Review not so helpful for what I was looking for, I am not going on the dirt, and I don't think this is a bike designed to be on the dirt either, I am mainly looking at this bike as a touring bike, and would have love to hear your experience on this bike as such. It seems like you just went on a tangent about your disappointment on this bike because it is not as great of an off roarer as the dessert X which is not the point of this bike.
cfmoto the price and maybe the ktm engine
how hard is it to get to the air filter on the IBEX? I have heard it's a bunch of bullshit on the Desert X.
just under the main seat. easily accessible.
We removed the gas tank to install an ABS kill switch and found out the air box is under the rider seat!
Wonder how the CF Moto IBEX compares to a…. Triumph tiger 800….? I think the tiger is more comparable than the desert X.
OC!
First 🎉🎉 Take that Andy 😂
Nope….I can’t wait for the Ibex to be available in the UK, I have a feeling it’s going to be sold out Immediately!!
its called 800MT in Europe. its been out for more than a year now. And no, it didn't sell out.
@@michaeljohndelmundo4741 Ahhhhh I stand corrected 🤦♂️
Imagine my surprise when owner justifies their own bias
Love my CF MOTO….
OC
IBEX-T all the way
Buy used triumph
You 💯 road tested “ADV” bikes. Not even a dusty road! Me thinks you are not qualified to review these bikes or certainly did not do a good review for this one. Sorry man.
I would get the I bed over the desert s for one reason cost of maintance
Um… it’s Chinese. The likelihood of it breaking is actually higher.
No confronto giusto cfrmoto 19 ducati 21, infine su qualità prezzo vince Cfmoto......detto da un italiano
Always intrigued how American's say Ducati (DOOCADDY)
Dam autocorrect
Ducati hands down ! C F moto junk !
Ibex looks better
If you like cheap Chinese Walmart plastic toys, sure.
not Just looks sounds better and affordable than unreliable Italian pasta Toy's
Tenere 700 will smack the shit of both of this bikes
remap it ;)
Dooocati😂😂😂
I thought about the CFMOTO, but after seeing it weighs more than a standard 1200 gs ive opted for a used GS
Not having traction control for off road is a negative? It’s one of the reasons that some bikes have the ability to turn it off. As proper off road riding with traction control will just be annoying and prevent the rider from getting everything out of the bike. Dirt bikes don’t have traction control for a good reason.
