For some people, there does seem to be a genetic component and yes, external stress or internal stress (physiologic) can cause an increase in pyrroles and yes, they would most likely benefit from staying on a protocol. If someone is mainly having elevated pyroles because off another issue (for example, mold toxicity), pyrroles may no longer be such an issue for them after they address mold.
Great video. I just got my daughter tested by DHA, and there seems to be a little disagreement what is high or pyroluria. According to the lab anything above 10 is elevated, 10-15 being borderline. But according to many other places I've found online up to 20 is within the normal range and only 20 and above is elevated. With the result of 19 it can be normal or elevated depending on who is right. Is this something worth pursuing as a cause to the symptoms, or it's most likely too low to be a likely cause? I heard pyrroles can get as high as 100 in some so pretty obviously high but not sure what to do with the value of 19.
I consider above 10 elevated (using DHA). Also when a zinc level is especially low, I expect the pyrrole level to be higher than it is reading. I also look at symptoms and not just labs. Thank you, for your question.
Dr. Synder, when you are re-testing HPL from DHA labs, do you have the patient continue on their usual dose of B6 and zinc? Or do they stop the supplement a few days before retesting?
Hello. I just have people follow the DHA lab instruction - " Supplements containing vitamins or minerals should be stopped 12-24 hours prior to your urine collection."
Dr. Snyder, this is a wonderful information but all very new to me. I have many of the symptoms and this seems to fit perfectly for what I've been experiencing. My conventional primary care doctor has done blood work (not sure how extensively) and tells me that I'm quite healthy but doesn't have any idea why I'm so fatigued, have terrible brain fog, sleep problems, constant muscle pains and increased weakness. He's minimized all the other factors such as an extended litigation, high conflict custody battle and work stress which I believe to be at the core of my problems. He doesn't seem to understand why I've been back to him several times when I'm "so healthy" so I think it's time to search for a new provider. Do you have any advise on what I should look for or avoid in a holistic doctor? By any chance, might you know of a reputable provider in the Spokane, WA or Couer D Alene, ID area? Pyrroles die quickly in the presence of UV light, so you will likely get a false negative result. You need to go to a lab which has special lights for the urine collection (which you do in total privacy). The urine then also needs to be quickly frozen and transported on dry ice to the testing laboratory. It is important to use a reputable laboratory for testing, and one that makes use of the correct collection facility. "
Hi Mel. Those of us trained through the Walsh Research Institute use DHA (Direct Health Care Access Labs). The kit is shipped back to the lab over night and frozen on ice. I have always had people do this at home, even prior to doing telehealth. You might inquire with DHA to see if they would recommend a lab in your country (or depending on where you are and what accommodations could be made, would they be able to do your test). The reason that we use this lab is because they account for the specific gravity (how concentrated the sample is), which can make a difference in the result. Most labs do not do this. A value could vary significantly depending on how much or little fluid someone has had. I hope this is helpful.

I'm unable to make recommendations without evaluated you. When I am seeing someone for treatment, I recommend may omega 6 when the pyrroles are especially high.
Not necessarily. I see people having problems tolerating gluathione (even orally) for a number of reasons including - candida, mold toxicity, mast cell activation, and sulfur intolerance are the first that come to mind.
I started taking supplements a couple weeks ago as recommended by the competence center that tested me. This week my sleep quality went down and I'm exhausted. Is this common? Should I decrease my dose or stop taking it for a day or two?
I'm unable to give you specific treatment recommendations, but I would recommend that you contact the person treating you. There are various reasons someone may not tolerate a an initial protocol for pyrroles - starting doses could be too high for certain people (usually we gradually increase), zinc if not worked up slowly can cause a mobilization of toxins and copper, B6 can aggravate symptoms, but with starting low and slow, usually it can be tolerated. Your treatment center should be able to assist you. Thank you for commenting.

@@courtneysnydermd-holisticp3072 Hi Dr. Snyder, I have 'pyroluria' and am quite convinced turmeric helps lower pyrroles. It definitely could, but that is not considered a hallmark symptom. Usually when I see people with elevated pyrroles, they have something else at play as well. That could be high copper, candida, mold toxicity, a methylation imbalance.
Thank you for this comment. I'm try not to argue "highly debated topics," other than to say - those of us who evaluate and treat for pyrrole disorder, find that there is a very strong relationship between pyrrole symptoms, a high pyrrole test result and a positive response (improvement in symptoms and decrease in pyrroles) with what is a fairly simple protocol. @@courtneysnydermd-holisticp3072 do you know what could cause the numbers to increase even after starting supplements? What foods can help with this generally speaking?
@@crystalq15 i was told by a bio GP that stress makes pyrroles go high
Do you think my stainless steel pin in my leg for 20 years could be make my my illness worse though I had CFS before fitted
I don't know. My experience is that normally there are multiple factors contributing to symptoms.
Wondering if this is reason my son craving corn oil chips etc as I did than vegetables as we both have Asperger's add do we need omega 6
I'm unable to make recommendations without evaluated you. When I am seeing someone for treatment, I recommend may omega 6 when the pyrroles are especially high.
if one does not tolerate glutathione in an IV nutrient mix, what does this suggest? Does it have something to do with pyrroles?
Not necessarily. I see people having problems tolerating gluathione (even orally) for a number of reasons including - candida, mold toxicity, mast cell activation, and sulfur intolerance are the first that come to mind.
18:30 treatment
@@courtneysnydermd-holisticp3072 Thank you so much for your quick reply.
When I started taking my supplements I couldn’t sleep at all and I became even more anxious.. I exercise regularly so that helped but after a few weeks I felt much better. The symptoms come and go like waves.
Turmeric helps to lower pyrroles
I'm assumign that would relate to the antiinflammatory and antifungal effects, but I'd be interested in learning more about that.
@@courtneysnydermd-holisticp3072 Hi Dr. Snyder, I have 'pyroluria' and am quite convinced turmeric helps lower pyrroles. I too have surmised its probable link to inflammation but possibly also due to its glutathione raising properties. Interestingly, no other herb/supp. has worked for me in this manner (confirmed by B6 and Zinc 'working' providing relief from symptoms.
@@profile_01 Thank you for that insight. That's interesting.
@@courtneysnydermd-holisticp3072 You're most welcome
Does it cause insomnia
It definitely could, but that is not considered a hallmark symptom. Usually when I see people with elevated pyrroles, they have something else at play as well. That could be high copper, candida, mold toxicity, a methylation imbalance.
This is a highly debated topic and there is barely any research showing it’s relation to psychiatric disorders.
Likely you're already familiar with the Part 1 and 2 summaries - "Discerning the Mauve Factor." They don't answer all the questions about pyrroles, but they are the best attempt I've seen bring clarity to this topic. Thanks again.
Is sexual addiction linked to all of this? People a nice guy "people pleaser" and lack of confidence, codependency
Hi. I'm glad to respond. Please let me know if you are asking if there is a link between sexual addiction and pyrrole disorder or if you are asking if there is a link between sexual addition and "codependency" or "nice guy syndrome"?

Thank you so much..
If you could answer both that would be great.
I'm currently having suicidal thoughts and I can't talk to just anyone it has to be someone I can trust..
My naturopath has put me on a vitamin b6, Zinc and magnesium complex with P5P I think it was.. she said I need to take it for the rest of my life most likely..
I can hear my other self (the part of me that isn't addicted, that wants to heal, wants to live life free from masturbation, pornography and sex addiction) I can hear him screaming in agony and pain every time I abuse myself with excessive "acting out" or relapse.
I don't know how many times I can keep doing this, i don't want to do what I do anymore.
Unemployed, no social life at all, irregular eating and sleeping, the nice guy persona.. I am constantly seeking validation and approval..
I have stopped being around people because when I do the thoughts start firing.. since highschool.. I decided not to face that again. Fear, fear and fear.
I also have tendencies to be histrionic and dramatic.. I don't know when I'm being serious or over reacting...
It's a lot. And I'm not going to give up. Because I know there's an answer.
I'm just scared I have done too much to heal what I've done..
