Thanks for the encouraging talk. I have been working with Ketogenic diets for 12 years now. Considering the metabolic disarray of the population population 90% of people need it. Based on my clinical experience you can't go back to a standard diet if you've had full-blown metabolic syndrome. Osteoarthritis has the same cause as psychiatric illness. It's not so much wear and tear as people think.
Personally I was blessed with an easily recognizable metabolic dyscrasia. I say this even though I had to figure it out on my own. This Doctor has figured it out for sure. Unfortunately, most of his colleagues are still living in the dark ages. I returned to a normal symptom free metabolism. My particular disorder was rife with not only physical symptoms (obesity, cancer, murmur, etc.) but mentally challenging symptoms (paranoia, anxiety, phobias worsening, etc.). Mild autonomous cortisol secretion from a tumor in my adrenal gland was excised leading to a full metabolic recovery. The battle was convincing my professional healthcare providers.
Walking in a natural environment is the best thing we can do to enhance mitochondrial function, immune response and overall health. Walking regulates appetite, balances brain chemicals, stimulates mitochondria activity, reduces sugar cravings and maintains cortisol and anxiety at low levels.
All true, yet, low mitochondrial function does not create mental health disorders. The way each of us were raised during our childhoods creates dysfunctional adults or functional adults. Why such a simple reality is ignored decade after decade is troubling. Are there reasons that mental health has been complicated for reasons of profit?
@ There’s a difference between being constipated and a great reduction in bathroom time. If someone does actually get constipated on carnivore it’s because they are not eating enough fat. Remember when you eliminate sugar, FAT is your best friend.
My guy is a mess from "doctors " prescriptions. He was just Rxd ozempic and i tried to show him so many stories against it and i got kicked to the curb. I found him a naturopathy doctor who specializes in getting ppl off of ADHD drugs, etc, he wont even speak toher. Pray for Avi. God Will Know Who it is.
if you somehow interpreted this video as "against ozempic" I think you misunderstood. Ozempic is an interesting way to begin the journey towards metabolic health
This is a very good discussion. I wish the interaction of the metabolism with the gut biome could have some how been tied in, but we are further behind in understanding the gut biome than mitochondria. There is a bidirectional communication there. And they are both largely inherited, which may be why many health/mental health conditions run in families.
What choices do individuals who are currently under psychiatric care and attend outpatient treatment services or have social workers welfare services come to visit them at their homes or places where they stay, if the mental health care services aren’t open to supporting individuals to try something different… like ketogenic nutrition or something that’s not pharmaceutical.
Maybe try to get a nutritionist involved in the care team and say that you’d like to try the Keto diet for mental health reasons. Reference this doctor by name as your source of information. In the meantime Google Keto Diet and a list of recommended foods comes up.
The psychiatrist of my son gave us the titel of a keto recipy book last week. And advice to get extra vitamines. She listened, but had no time to do resource, or read some stuff I printed out.How come she never heard of this theory? Is it not published in a special magazine?Im living in the Netherlands.

When talking about asd in previous videos, he's mentioned that genetics don't determine genetic expression. What does this mean? If autism is metabolic then why do autistic people have different brain structures? Or is the brain structure a result of metabolism??
I believe these are not opposing views, but rather both are true at the same time. As i understand it, autism is (usually) a genetic/structural abnormality that makes certain parts of your brain extremely vulnerable to metabolic dysfunction. And that metabolic dysfunction can then reflect back in structural development of the brain. Plus, this is in itself very simplified because other things play into it as well (gut microbiome, trauma... etc. etc. - have a look at the graphic at 28:00) Throughout the history of medicine and science people have been looking for a single root cause of illnesses and disorders. Sometimes there is one (you get bitten by an infected mosquito - you get malaria). But things like autism, depression, schizophrenia, autoimmune conditions etc. don't usually have a single root cause, they're caused by a complex interplay of a huge number of factors, internal and external.
Yes I'm sure loneliness has a lot to do with it but I sure think that a hell of a lot of it is the food supply as well do people remember you are what you eat and we all eat a bunch of toxic poison food that's not real at all
Thank you for the wonderful lecture. Have you considered the role of heart contractility - Particularly in relation to mitochondrial health? Reduced heart contractility results in lower arterial pressure and pulsation which affects metabolite removal in the brain the most, given that it's furthest from the heart. The other element to consider is mental coherence in relation to heart contractility. This is the single best indicator of systemic health available. Hand grip strength serves as a wonderful proxy for heart contractility and when taken together with heart rate variability as a measure of system coherence, it gives us a wonderful indicator of systemic health.
There is actually amazing new paper on metabolism od cardiomyocytes in insulin sensitive and insulin resistant patients. You tube do not allow me to put link
@igorlekic32 Thank you. I think heart contractility in connection with mental coherence (HRV), are the best two indicators of system health. When we're stressed, our heart rate increases and when this becomes chronic our heart contractility becomes inefficient. This is because the heart is mitochondria-rich and a sustained increase in heart rate stops the process of autophagy. Subsequently, arterial pressure drops along with the strength of arterial pulsations and all metabolic systems suffer eventually.
I'm diagnosed, almost, with adhd and autism. I started looking into this about 8 months ago and have been doing personal work on trauma and different experiences I've had. My brain feels different, there's definitely changes. But I don't know what to think about the autism/adhd and metabollic link, I want to believe it but I just don't know. If autism is inherited through genes, does this mean it stays that way or can it be altered through mitochondria and metabollism? I wish I knew if I was doing the right thing by following the keto diet, it ain't easy!
I'm similar. I eat keto and have 10 years. Be sure to not eat unhealthy keto. I use lots of vegetables and greens, plus most forms of meat. Only use good quality of oils. I don't think genetics can be changed. Our brains are not neurotyical. We think diiferently and pobabaly process information differently. High functioning autism is exactly as the words imply. Many have high IQ's which equals to the ability to have a normal life. I was able to work through my mental health issues, by my self. Best wishes to you.
There's a few common deficiencies found in autism, look up magnesium and also enzymes. Mental health problems seem to be part and parcel of neurodivergence, I constantly feel overstimulated, hypervigilant and worn out. I was told about the difference in brain structures that's visible in autistic newborns. Is structure non negotiable? I don't know what to think.
I have been keto for years. And before that I was on a paleo type diet since before 2013. Ate no processed foods. On paleo I was only eating meat, fish, whole milk, fresh produce. Nothing from cans or boxes. Most meals were a soup of veggies + meat. Then my allergies got worse. Went keto. So that started around 2019? Only grass fed meat. Stopped eating fish after awhile as I realized I had a problem with it too. Then in Nov 2020 I stopped dairy (which had been A2 in glass bottles grass fed) as I had issues with that too. Been carnivore these past months. From sept 2024. Only grass fed beef + lamb + pasture eggs. Tried dairy again but it only gives breathing problems. But you know what? I am still autistic with CPTSD + anxiety. It doesn't actually go away because of how others treat me. Even my own family. I get ignored, forgotten, etc. And my A1C is totally normal. Its been that way for years + years. I can walk 14 miles and often do. My weight varies from 110 to 115 during the week. I am 52 and on 0 meds. I do not think autism is linked to any metabolic condition. Am I supposed to eat even less maybe? Lose more weight? If I lose more weight I will be underweight! Have already cut most foods out due to corn allergy + celiac. And my resting heart rate by the way is 55. And at night when I am asleep it goes into the upper 40s. That's an athlete. How can someone with the resting heart rate of an athlete have metabolic disorder?? Makes no sense.
I was called disabled but without any idea as to what it was or is. They had me see doctors and such but now more than a decade of receiving care they suddenly said I was no longer disable bc I make too much money. Nothing in writing just nope you are not disabled. It's enough to drive one batty.

This is very important and apt. As a piece of the cake. We must also recognize all other pieces. Especially the energetic, etheric and spiritual pieces. There are people who instantly, in a second, shifts out of long standing severe depression and anxieties. So it cannot be ascribed to metabolic or biological explanations. I don't know enough about the vaccination issue to have an opinion, but I'm in my 60s, absolutely everyone was vaccinated when I was a kid, but there were only maybe 3 kids I knew in all my school years who probably had Asbergers or were in that area of the "spectrum". So, even if vaccinations play a role, they can't be the whole story, or more kids would have had it back then. Frankly diet & lifestyle factors make more sense to me, since so many other metabolic conditions which were uncommon when I was a kid are very common now.
