The Broken Science Initiative
США
Добавлен 1 авг 2022
In 2022, Greg Glassman and Emily Kaplan launched The Broken Science Initiative to free any man from the tyranny of broken science and its scientists. Through a shared interest in the replication crisis in medicine, this intellectual exploration led to a fascination with predictability and the lack of probability theory in most of science (we joke, all the ologies and medicine). We'll break down why p-values, confidence intervals, and a misplaced emphasis on method are tools of Broken Science. Then we'll share alternative ways of deriving validation --in fact, we'll argue our ways are the only real ways to find predictable outcomes. We will show you how and why we've gotten things so dangerously wrong, who's responsible and hopefully provide you with a new perspective on what science is and what it is not. When predictive value is replaced by consensus thinking, one is left with nonsense that won't replicate, that's Broken Science.
Sunday Discussion, Part 1: Epistemology Camp 2024
Sunday at BSI’s 2024 Epistemology Camp was a loosely structured open discussion.
Greg Glassman started the conversation with mention of the 1927 Solvay Conference, where revolutionary ideas in physics and quantum theory were debated. Most took an ontological perspective on probability in quantum theory, while a few disagreed and preferred an epistemological view.
The conversation emphasized the need for a shift in scientific practices, with a call for models to be used for making predictions rather than just fitting data. The importance of moving towards a more predictive and experimental approach, as seen in physics and engineering, was emphasized, bashing ad hoc modeling practices used in...

5 Buckets of Death | And The Covid Trashcan Fire

In March 2020, while still serving as CrossFit CEO, Greg Glassman deliverd a version of a talk he had delivered during grand rounds at medical schools around the country. Greg Glassman divides various common causes of death into five categories: chronic, microbic, genetic, kinetic, or toxic. The chronic disease category includes conditions such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, hyper...

What about Ldl lowering after coronary bypass operation?
When was this talk delivered?
NM - I see the date in the backgroun (2019). This is before Glassman sold CrossFit. Listening to this does not make me hopeful about CrossFit's future. I doubt the current executives running the business will do what Mr. Glassman is talking about here. CrossFit will just become another Orange Theory or Camp Gladiator.
Highly recommended~
I have no idea what's going on but I love listening to this! 😆
It is Carb Restriction that makes CrossFit work for Chronic Diseases
Concise, yet perfectly clear. Thank you.
teaching English speaking adults common sense is the something I thought I'd never have to applaud by here we are and damn Americans need that
Turn you hat around.
dr. Kendrick, check out the carnivore life style.
🤔 Hmmm. Well there is no doubt that the carb and sedentary bucket has this effect. The categories are interesting but there is a big category mistake to assume that the carbs and sedentary effects are the cause of the disease. It is another case of blame the victim. So first there is the issue of the inherent lack of nutrients in carbohydrates. Carbs are necessary and so is rest . But how is it that food intake no longer nourishes us but makes us sick ? How is it that those who suffer with these illnesses are often too poor to afford better nutrition? Or how is it that we end up eating fast food and highly processed food or foods full of bad chemicals; or that we have exchanged rest and a rest day for a sedentary circumstance? How is it that our educational institutions are not teaching us nutrition, or that doctors do not get any education in this vital subject, and rely on the pill or the knife to make us feel that we are getting help. Most significantly how have the institutions that once had a true sense of purpose are now full of greed and making a profit from illness. More to the point how is it that a large portion of the population have lost their sense of agency and given it over to authorities to fix . Get with it folks this is interesting but definitely not news or the real cause of the troubles, just because the issues can be categorized and statistics added for support does not equate to the full story . Individually we can take back our personal agency and do something about our own situation but that doesn't help the underlying problem . In a way it is a philosophical and spiritual problem . We need a new model of the human body as whole and organic, and more than a machine. We need a new focus on moral life that has allowed this kind of travesty and we need a set of values that collectively can restore the kind of community values that are purpose fulled and can make a difference to the kind of institutions that are not driven by profit or the bottom line . We need Love for ourselves and fellow humans, and the compassion and courage to change the institutions that are killing us and the circumstances that result in our sense of powerlessness over the troubled waters. ✝🤩
Induction imho is the best instrument for reasoning because it is based on the special observation...and that is the only truth and certainty we have...generalization is (in the best case) just the sum of several verified observations and you never have certainty if you try to generalize something. Deduction starts with a generalized point of view and therefore already starts with an amount of uncertainty. Also you can cook with induction, but not with deduction!
Tell me you don’t understand Popper without telling me you don’t understand Popper. S
Very helpful info/ideas, and nicely produced. I greatly appreciate the accurate subtitles.
Thank you for doing this video. In addition to being a vital piece of information, asking about it lets your doctor know that you are a thoughtful, involved, and alert patient, which, for me, gets better advice.
You either pay the Farmer or you pay the pharma
This has aged VERY well!!
We agree!
He's a crossfit'r?🤣
He needs to address diet in there.
Most deaths classified as covid were misattributed. End of life meds and "care" administered in care homes to anyone with a sniffle. Then we pump all the people not in that bucket with stuff that exposes them to toxic protein for months.
Carnivore has solutions to all sides!
iatrogenic?
caused by a doctor
That's pretty much most people at present, CUZ half the the behavior during 20th century has been upalling; half the methods done wrong; and, half the results skewed, skeezy, or misinterpreted, etc.
The speaker has the bloated fatty liver/visceral fat syndrome. Notice his distended upper abdomen. I hope the speaker reads this.
Wurd
And what about poverty ? Crossfit and low carbs doesn’t feature on your radar when you can’t afford the basics of life.
The answer is a two parent household
So you say, eat problems 🤮 not solutions. 😀. 🧠 becomes 💩 Good Luck
Poor people often live on junk food. For the same price they can eat eggs and hamburger.
Jogging is free as are most calisthenics.
Poor people tend to eat junk foods. For the same money they could eat eggs and hamburger and chicken.
In countries where there is state healthcare, there is a strong incentive to want to diminish the number of people in the larger bucket, even if this is at the expense of profits for all of the businesses selling unhealthy foods. In the US, the more unhealthy foods available, the more profit for the companies producing them AND the more profit for hospitals and drug manufacturers selling drugs to manage chronic disease.
You might think that! (From U.K.)
Why quote the hack Ferguson?
Ah.... because he was an expert, and he overstated the expected deaths by a factor of 25. It's called sarcasm.

This is one of the best videos ever made
By far one of my favorites
I understood this somehow.
Was gibt's den da nicht zu verstehen Karl?
This should be required viewing twice per year in school, K-12 and college.
Thank you for an interesting lecture.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Is there a place to watch the full talk?
This is the full version of this talk. We have other iterations of Greg's lectures on our Broken Science channel.
If insurance companies were really insurance companies there would be a strong financial incentive for those in the chronic bucket to escape. Alas they are not. Our current health insurance are a socialist system of spread the pain that makes it financially comfortable for those to remain in the chronic bucket.
Apart from Gigerenzer's 2004 paper with the same title, what are the best resources or publications to learn more about this topic?
I'm afraid I don't have a good answer, (I'm only 25 minutes in, so may be misunderstanding your request), but a place to start might be the work of John Ionnidis. Also, Kary Mullis had some very interesting views on the way modern science was done and how scientific consensus was being protected. I hope this helps 🙏 (also to boost the video in the algorithm!)
none of this is needed... stay away from doctors, most everything they give you will make you sicker, because when you realize that there is zero benefit for the criminal medical system to have healthy patients; they only profit when they have people that are perpetually ill, and this is what their goal is always, to make you sicker. If you believe otherwise you aren't critically thinking
science isn't broken, corruptions and lies are a feature, not a bug. you can't make good sickly slaves by giving people the truth
who reads the news? if you are a critical thinker you know that all "news" is just propaganda.
the way to navigate the anti health care system is to realize that they make no money if you are healthy, that's all you need to know, and then run far away from these people, their goal is to make and keep you ill, steal your money, and murder you, always. Health is easily achieved, stop eating poisons, get out in nature, get grounded, get sunlight, get in the ocean, stay away from EMF, live naturally, eat only organic food (organic means non-poisoned), and above all don't let them inject you with ANYTHING
I've been getting into the details of the differences between the two approaches (confidence intervals versus credible intervals, for instance), instead of learning a good overview. Your video has provided me an excellent overview. Thank you. --
I'm a big fan of Ian Hacking's "Logic of Statistical Inference" - but unfortunately Fisher's fiducial probability doesn't quite work.
“Ludwig Boltzmann, who spent much of his life studying statistical mechanics, died in 1906, by his own hand. Paul Ehrenfest, carrying on the work, died similarly in 1933. Now it is our turn to study statistical mechanics.” ― David L. Goodstein, States of Matter
This guy is a crackpot. Let's start from the beginning, goedls incompleteness theorem and tell us that anything with axioms is unprovable. Therefore his whole nonsensical rant about there being inductive reasoning that works is nonsense.
This man wrote the paper that this talk is largely based on in 2004!!!
Happy to see talks like this posted online for others to hear
It bothers me no end that an important video like this gets so few views. But they say the youtube suggestion algorithm favours videos with comments, so maybe if I add this comment?
This is a very helpful perspective on the teaching and use of statistics. Prof also gives a clever sociological analysis of statistics (in practice) rather than the usual statistical analysis of a sociological practice, describing p-hacking as a “ritual “. He even brings a little Freudian analysis to the discussion! Thank you, Prof Gigerenzer.
Fantastic talk~ I'll be watching it again!
This is made exponentially worse by “biostatisticians” who train outside of any contextual field who mindlessly report to the untrained clinicians what they “found”.
