  • It all started with this tweet to protest a new HBO show called "Confederate." A Maryland man stated his State's flag is "half-confederate."

You can't make some sort of comparison between the Maryland and Confederate flags. Yes, some Maryland confederate sympathizers used the colors from the Crossland coat of arms (the red and white part) to promote their cause, but the Crossland coat of arms existed and was combined with the Calvert coat of arms (the black and yellow part) 200 years before the Civil War.

How is the flag a part of slavery? That's stupid. It does not mean a "part" of slavery

So, not for nothing, but this is probably one of the most asinine things I have read / heard about lately. The want for the history of people being repressed to be erased and done away with in it self is well stupid. If we take it away, wipe it from history books what then becomes of the ones who stood up for the rights of people. Their actions would hold far less value or worse they could be forgotten because no one would know what they stood against or who they stood for. As for my flag, the Maryland flag, you may want check up a little on what you're actually talking about. Maryland was one of biggest contributors to the American colonization society. In December 1831 The Maryland State Colonization Society was formed, the Maryland state legislature appropriated an annual US$10,000 for 26 years to transport free blacks and ex-slaves from the United States to Africa. The act appropriated funds of up to $20,000 a year, up to a total of $260,000, in order to commence the process of African colonization, a considerable expenditure by the standards of the time. The Maryland State Colonization Society was responsible for founding the Republic of Maryland in West Africa, a short lived independent state that in 1857 was annexed by Liberia.
