The DJI seems to smooth out the video much better than the GoPro, especially when you're doing your mirror checks. The GoPro is considerable shakier and almost gives me a feeling of disorientation. That alone would be enough to make me choose the DJI over GoPro. Thanks for doing this comparison. Actual video always tells a better story than specs.
I think the DJI image actually looked better with better colours. Preferred the image stabilization setting on the GoPro but could be just because I'm used to it. Either way probably not much between them. Enjoy the Europe trip!
Absolutely liked the DJI way more then the GoPro! Better colours, better sound and once you adjust the stabilisation it’ll be mint 🙌👍🍻
Dji looks like a tv set to vivid mode compared with GoPro on standard. GoPros overheating makes it a non starter for me
Gain adjustment is game changing for dji. Was keen on the action 3 until finding it had no gain adjustment.
It has till -12, this goes till -20!!!

The main issue with having the USB C for the mic is that you cannot charge while riding or filming, Gopro couldnt do that because it overheated, but would love to charge the DJI Osmo while recording, how long does the OSMO battery last on 4k etc?
There's probably an adapter you can get that allows for mic input and passthrough charging at the same time

DJI Osmo Action 4 is my go-to motorcycle camera! Purely stunning
And everyone just forgets about the Insta One RS with boost 4K lens. Sorry but it just does it better and cheaper. Max reliability, solid audio, great picture, and you can run it in max settings all day while charging at the same time. It doesn't overheat. The mic adaptor clips in so it doesn't stress the usb port, this has killed a few gopros for me. The adaptor also lets you run power in, I run a battery bank and that will last for days! I think the video isn't quite as good as the gopro/Dji but its not far off. At the end of the day though I'm happy to see Dji sticking with it, we need more alternatives to gopro. I've had nearly every gopro up to the 7, that's when I had to give up on them, too many issues.
I got the osmo 3 last month wish had known this was coming out recommend get the dji mic can plug reciver into camera run a lav mic into helmet from mic unit can have in jacket that way audio to camera with back up audio on mic unit no more lost audio
Could take it back for an issue and upgrade
DJI file system is so much better, the Batterys work better though if you swap to 4k you will loose some of that run time, the cameras don't totally loose date and time when sitting with no battery in, my Action 3 lost or gained 20 minutes is all after a month of no battery. My GoPro9 is headed for the bin since swapping to Action3, the Action4 has a better sensor than the 3 but it's not enough to make me upgrade again at this time. Have to admit the 4k at the cars needs investigating, it didn't go well on the extra wide setting on the DJI. Lastly please please please turn on some even basic stabilization please.
I have some issues with the action 4. I have the wireless dji mic as I want to get the bike sound as clean and clear as possible but I have no idea the best way to set it up. Issue 1) the receiver that you plug to the side restricts the amount of backwards tilt and I’m making videos where the horizon is level with the top, unlike yours where the bike is perfectly positioned at the bottom of the video and you can see the sky, maybe with the receiver attached to the chin mount you need and extra little extender?. Issue 2) No idea where to put the wireless mic and with what gain setting (btw when not wanting to use the wireless mic can you just use the camera mic and turn the gain down and you won’t get wind noise?) so far I’ve had the mic in a small bag on my back and seems to be ok
Going off this vid the GoPro does look better. If your starting out get the osmo, but I have a hero 8 and Ben using it for two years without any issues. I won’t upgrade because of the stories I keep hearing about the new ones. I record 4K on it all day long and carry a few batteries to change out.
I can’t believe what you and others do to use GoPro… I threw mine in the bin years ago at number 9 … kept my session though… I still use my Osmo 1 and it has never let me down… GoPros are shit
I got the original Osmo Action 3 years ago after having GoPros and the Osmo has given me a much better experience. Like you said it pretty much does everything the GoPro does but more reliable and less expensive.
Don't forget that Switzerland has expensive speeding fines. (The Baron will testify to that) Have a great trip.

@@RidingWithTomthey will ask you (and prove) how much money you make and fine you based on that. Once got a ticket for doing 30 over the limit and it cost me 30 days of wage. I'll never ride a bike there again 😂

Never had issues with any GoPro recording at 4K 😂
I personally have had issues with GoPro not recording halfway through and "crashing/hanging/overheating" whatever it is.. Have to open up battery compartment, pull out battery and reinsert battery. In the meanwhile , lost all footage it was supposed to record etc. Complete waste of time.

Why can't they have a waterproof 3.5mm jack with a rubber dust cap directly on the body? Or better again a bluetooth option for mic or other accessories? DJI looks good, and is so wide it can easily handle a 5-10% crop for stabilization.
Aint gunna lie, GoPro can definitely suck at times. I'm without fail pulling out the battery and reinserting it, every single ride. Drive me nuts. I do much prefer the linear view, but that's just my personal preference. Cheers for the review 👍👍

Audio sounds bad on new camera. 😢 Much better sound with GoPro. Maybe you can adjust the mic gain in the dji?
There’s something a little off with the dji, I’m surprised nobody has noticed. Just seems to bounce around a bit,
3.5mm mic is it 3 pole or 4 pole ?
My GoPro has recently started turning on in the middle of the night in my backpack! Very spooky!
DJI stabilisation is pretty poor on the dirt road and terrible walking around by that car, don't normally notice an issue on the GoPro in previous videos. That battery charger and the mic input/gain is great though. Only time I've had overheating issues on the GoPro is when I leave it on at a stop for extended periods in the sun or with no movement/airflow. But they are finnicky as anything with SD cards, and some settings seem to cause issues too.
This is the perfect motorcycle camera!

GoPro footage looks better. DJI superview looks like your hyperspacing on the road. Was not expecting that weak stabilisation on the DJI when you handheld it at the carwreck

Hey Tom, excellent review. 2 Questions and a comment.
1) Stabilization - The DJI stabilization wasn't great, have you tried increasing the rocksteady level?
2) Does the Action 4 give you the option to display shutter speed on the back (I hate the lack of exposure aids on the GoPro)
3) Comment - I think I prefer the colours on the DJI, and it seems to handle shooting into the sun much better than GoPro (less flare etc.)

So , gopro looks wider left to right - Dji looks wider top to bottom- GoPro also has less image distortion .

I prefer the gopro to be honest. The DJI is too wide and looks like insta360 footage. I don't know if it was just me, but the stabilisation also looked better to me on the GoPro

Yes I agree. GoPro at 4k is so unreliable.
With the Omsmo Action, the video looks much more crisp and clear, didn't expect that. The Gopro's vid, in direct comparison, looks bad and washed out, especially the colors and details.
I hope you're not here in Germany right now though as it's pissing it down for 2 weeks straight! 😂

The GoPro has better stability, and the 4k at the dead car was jumping around.
Gopro is a joke these days, not even worth it. Action 4 is waay better than gopro for sure. The reasons is why because Action 4 has longer bettery life, longer video records better night recording quality and size is smaller, but same weight thou. If someone in the situation considering which one is the best option to go with, take your time and think about that one more time. Or just take Action 4.
For my recent 9 day adventure, I used my new GoPro Hero 11 and recorded in 4k 24fps without issue but I wasn't running it constantly, I was very deliberate with each time I turned it on.
My Hero 9 in the past though had quite a few issues, which corrupted footage, so here's hoping my 11 doesn't do the same!
As far as I'm concerned both those cameras were blurry and terrible video quality on my 50GB FTC NBN, not happening on anything else I'm watching tonight in case you want to blame my equipment

I have the the insta360 x3 mounted to my handlebars for insurance purposes. Still figuring out the proper settings and it can only do up to 30 mins of loop recording so if I want to make sure it saves a clip I have to stop and restart recording.
