Great video. Had no idea about this cuisine and I definitely want to travel to give it a try someday! Amazing food, but also a great heartfelt message!
It's because many regions of Chinese food are not recognized by Americans and therefore don't have any business opportunity. You won't find Hui halal food either, along with any Northeastern cuisine (essentially the "soul food" of China). Lu cuisine, the dominant cuisine in China, doesn't make much of an appearance either. Usually you hear about Sichuan, Cantonese, Shanghainese food, which are big cuisines but they are all in the south and thus rice-based. The lack of northern food is so serious that ramen-style dishes are very rarely thought of as Chinese, despite the dish having its origin and etymology from lamian. You wouldn't even know that "lanzhou lamian" is super ubiquitous across China. Hell, basic staples like mantou, baozi, bing and many kinds of noodles simply are absent in the US - so absent that I literally can't translate "bing" without it seeming really wrong (pancake, though it is similar to a highly layered wheat flour tortilla). The equivalent is as if Americans thought Italian food had only noodles - no pizza or rice. It's really bizarre.
May Allah bless minorities who are persecuted by Muslims ( Iran , Pakistan, Iraq,Syria, Egypt, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Sudan Nigeria, Malaysia etc) Ameen
Uyghur is my favorite kind of Chinese cuisine hands down. People here don't know too much about the different Chinese cuisine styles but every province is different. If this interests you, look up the Xinjiang region of China. They are being persecuted in ways that Americans can't imagine
We need to get this comment to the top. People from the outside world cannot imaginge how it is to live as an Uyghur in China. These people cannot communicate freely, move through the country or even be economically self sustaining. There were even times when Uyghurs had to marry ethnic Han chinese just to make sure they would not make any more Uyghur children. This is one of the ways the CCP tries to assimilate the Uyghurs into mainstream chinese society. Also note that integration and assimilation are two different things. The first is done by the two sides, while the other is forced by one side upon the others.
And you cannot imagine how those Uyghurs treated the Han Chinese centuries ago. Either they assimilate and become harmonious with our society, or they must be corrected by the glorious CCP! The Ughurs themselves are not bad, but their beliefs are too dangerous and erratic and the country cannot afford any internal instability!

My mom tells me all the time that she misses eating dapanji back in Xinjiang. There aren’t any Uyghur restaurants where we live in America so I still haven’t tried it yet.
Uyghur people are like a mix of Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan...I mean their appearances, culture, clothes, food... It's so fascinating! 🤩 But of course, you can see their Chinese physical traits as well as the food influence...
Lots of Uyghurs don't consider them selves Chinese in the first place, they consider themselves a Turkic people which essence is actually true , sort of how Kashmiris in India and Pakistan don't consider themselves Indian or Pakistani but Kashmiri
my favorite food, ate tons of street lamb BBQ when I was in china visiting lots of spices and chillies, we have a place close to us that makes the hand streache noodles yummy
I haven't eaten Uyghur cuisine in a long time since I went to a Uyghur restaurant in Beijing two summers ago. I remember eating 丁丁炒面, 羊肉串, and some vegetables. After studying more about Uyghur cuisine (Plus one Hui dish: 大盘鸡), there's still a lot more that I want to eat someday. 😋
He's still of turkic origin. He doesn't looks like an Arab first of all. His eyes, skin, form is completly different. He speaks like a typical turkic language from central Asia. Their cousine is very influenced by other kitchens but looks for me very "turkish" with the Börek like food, lamb etc.
Mindplague you should search “xin Jiang” or “Lanzhou” or “north west Chinese food” instead, things like big dishes chicken and lamb kabab are common dishes. Just not that much middle eastern dish.
OMG the Marina Shopping Center been there so many times for the Tapioca Express and passed by that Uyghur restaurant a few times. Thanks for making a vid and showing off a piece of Union City, California.
Had this food all over China , one thing I must say this is the most delicious food you get in China , I used to go to 兰州拉麵 almost everyday for 6 years , everything right from the jiamu to the 牛肉麵 to 大盘鸡 is exquisite.
I suppose Chinese dishes are quite bland. I think Chinese causine in Singapore should be more flavourful than China. I wonder if there's Uigur restaurants in Singapore.
Thanks for covering this beautiful culture. Uyghurs are sadly being persecuted there and 2 millions of them have been forced into internment camps(1st of 21st century) where they are forced to eat pork and not pray
And you cannot imagine how those Uyghurs treated the Han Chinese centuries ago. Either they assimilate and become harmonious with our society, or they must be corrected by the glorious CCP! The Ughurs themselves are not bad, but their beliefs are too dangerous and erratic and the country cannot afford any internal instability!
there are people around the world who cannot even afford the luxury of meat. These people should be grateful that the CCP is serving them such delicious food!
theuglykwan actually wrong. Those who are caught by police in suspicion of terroristic acts and preaching radical islam. They aren’t treated as muslims. In China the government does not care what religion you practice as long as you don’t force another religion on others or preach in public way.
When I was in xinjiang for 5 years dapanji was my favorite dish esp from shoyezan, depan too was good, Urumqi.. I miss those days, polo I miss, xinjiang kebab😭😭😭😭
That was weird. Video starts, and I'm thinking 'wow! crazy deja vu, surely I've been there before!' and sure enough, my parents lived a short distance away back in the '80s. Don't recall the name of the original restaurant, but we ate there at least once during one of my infrequent visits.
As an Indian muslim I can relate to all the Persian elements of food , because our food has also been influenced by Iranian flavours haha ; the samsa - we call it Samosa in India & the kabop - we call it Seekh Kebab , even the lagman stew seemed very Indian to me . Can definitely see Indians loving Uyghur food.
This food looks like a combination of the cuisines of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and China! I've been to Urumqi, Xinjiang, China. My wife is Kazakh and could understand and speak Kazakh with Uyghurs there. Uyghur language and Kazakh language, as well as food, are very similar. Lagman (why did this video spell it "lengmen" - that's weird) is super popular in Kazakhstan among Kazakh people!

My mom tells me all the time that she misses eating dapanji back in Xinjiang. There aren’t any Uyghur restaurants where we live in America so I still haven’t tried it yet.
it would be amazing to have iftaar at this restaurant with all these foods
Great hosting as always Sheldon! Lovely share on an unknown group to me...food looks delicious!
Awesome, those noodles are making me hungry. More Chinese food vids please!
The food tastes awesome! And it has already relocated to a much bigger space in the same plaza
Love Uyghur Muslims from India
Uyghur people are like a mix of Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan...I mean their appearances, culture, clothes, food... It's so fascinating! 🤩
But of course, you can see their Chinese physical traits as well as the food influence...
as a person who wants to eat noodles every single day.. I would love to eat this cuisine.. drool drool..
I like chines Muslim I tried in Shenzhen
BEA. BEAUTIFUL
Never heard of this ethnic group, but there food is amazing.
Another great episode with Sheldon. The dumplings look very tempting.
Lots of Uyghurs don't consider them selves Chinese in the first place, they consider themselves a Turkic people which essence is actually true , sort of how Kashmiris in India and Pakistan don't consider themselves Indian or Pakistani but Kashmiri
this is the underrated side of the chinese cuisine
my favorite food, ate tons of street lamb BBQ when I was in china visiting lots of spices and chillies, we have a place close to us that makes the hand streache noodles yummy
Uyghur people need our help everyone.
Hold on my Uyghur friends! Lots of love from Brussels!
Why did I think it would be a good idea to watch this while hungry?
As an old Turkic saying goes, if you push the borderline of Hungry a little bit further, you will reach the state of Romance...
I do this every time XD
I'm a rockstar eater. I'm always hungry.
That mexican guy is so cool, so loveable.
Dude is Chinese, looks like Arab, speaks like Indian accent, eats like Mediterranean and middle Eastern.
Very impressive.
He's still of turkic origin. He doesn't looks like an Arab first of all. His eyes, skin, form is completly different. He speaks like a typical turkic language from central Asia. Their cousine is very influenced by other kitchens but looks for me very "turkish" with the Börek like food, lamb etc.
You can have him..... I know you are Turkish.🤣😂😆 I don't care if you think everything is turkish.
What kind of asinine comment is that.. Uighurs are of Turkish descent end of story. And I'm not really sure where you see the Arab in him?
Why is someone's ethnicity impressive?
no he looks like Uyghyr, speaks like Uyghur and eats like Uyghur,
Food looks tasty and beautiful colour. Hand-pulled noodles looks special.
will be going there soon - love that it's in the area
i love this channel never gets tired or corny
beautiful food
All looks so good.
羊肉串😍大盘鸡❤️丁丁炒面。。I'm hungry
Wonderful. I need to find Uyghar cuisine near me in Canada. Looks delicious.
Mindplague you should search “xin Jiang” or “Lanzhou” or “north west Chinese food” instead, things like big dishes chicken and lamb kabab are common dishes. Just not that much middle eastern dish.
Wonderful cooking like half turkish half Chinese... iloveit
OMG the Marina Shopping Center been there so many times for the Tapioca Express and passed by that Uyghur restaurant a few times. Thanks for making a vid and showing off a piece of Union City, California.
I live in istanbul I like to eat uygur food in the restoran in here, the food is so yummy
I want to try this!
Uyghur cuisine is awesome! Big plate chicken is my favorite. Silk Road in fremont is another Uyghur cuisine restaurant.
I literally just bookmarked a new Uyghur spot near me last week. Def going to check it out soon.
If they are forced to eat the pork I think it is ok in terms of their religion.
there are people around the world who cannot even afford the luxury of meat. These people should be grateful that the CCP is serving them such delicious food!
theuglykwan actually wrong. Those who are caught by police in suspicion of terroristic acts and preaching radical islam. They aren’t treated as muslims. In China the government does not care what religion you practice as long as you don’t force another religion on others or preach in public way.
kidding, right? how do you even get here? 翻墙 just to spread the propaganda?
I loveeeee Xinjiang fooood miss it so much
When I was in xinjiang for 5 years dapanji was my favorite dish esp from shoyezan, depan too was good, Urumqi.. I miss those days, polo I miss, xinjiang kebab😭😭😭😭
Proud to be uyghur🥰
Yeah...another wonderful video here...good. 👍🏼👍🏼💯♥️
Tysm for sharing💕👍
I live in Sacramento bout to drive 2 hours to eat here
Wow, that looks delicious. Now I want to try their food!
The restaurant closed down sadly. I really wanted to go
That was weird. Video starts, and I'm thinking 'wow! crazy deja vu, surely I've been there before!' and sure enough, my parents lived a short distance away back in the '80s. Don't recall the name of the original restaurant, but we ate there at least once during one of my infrequent visits.
wow... very nice 👌👌👌👌
Sheldon is great. Cool series.
As an Indian muslim I can relate to all the Persian elements of food , because our food has also been influenced by Iranian flavours haha ; the samsa - we call it Samosa in India & the kabop - we call it Seekh Kebab , even the lagman stew seemed very Indian to me . Can definitely see Indians loving Uyghur food.
loved this vid, liked the uyghur guy a lot!
Причём тут казахи у них кухня совсем другая и все 2-3 блюда
There's an Uyghur restaurant in Walthamstow, East London. Amazing 👌👌
didnt know there is a uyghur resturant in union city . for sure going to go try it!
Food looks great. Can't wait to try it. Sweet people.
Where Central and East Asia unite their food is the best of both worlds
Move to Minnesota please, there are a many people who would like to have a Chinese Halal food.
Actually it is my favorite regional cuisine of China!
It's not in the shitty china, they're in Xinjiang, another statr
You can eat the Samsa baked pastry dumpling thingeys in Russia. They are sold at many shawarma shops. They're pretty good!
I miss this cuisine so much! These people taught me that there is not such thing as too much Cumin ;)
Yeah, right. Cumin is never too much.
