@@andyzhang7890 I agree. I put Lucas up there with Zimmern and Bourdain. Lucas like them, loves food and the cultural effects food has on their communities.
@@justingoboom oh yes, i absolutely love learning about the culture and history behind food, you can really tell they are completely in love with food by the light in their eyes and the way they talk-
As someone grown up in Sichuan, I have to say that this is indeed the best sweet water noodle shop I've tried in Chengdu. Kudos to Lucas for finding this place.
Very lucky! Chinese have got such an incredible culinary food culture! I can’t wait to visit China 🇨🇳! I was wondering if you can tell me the name of/ address of this restaurant? Thank you ☺️
@@sabrinastraveladventures4263张老二凉粉 that's the name, put it in map. You can also take a screenshot when he mentioned the name and showed the storefront and ask Google/ai to give you the answer
Very glad to see english food videos that actually explore authentic Chinese food in China (especially with foods that are also not quite well known outside of China, or even their local places)
Omg thank you for bringing Chengdu’s amazing Sweet Water Noodles into this sphere! They are such an underrated gem of Chengdu eats and as a native myself but living overseas for most of my life I crave these all the time and lament not being able to find these or replicate them as authentically as possible (lack of access to the oil and the type of soy sauce). Anyone going to Chengdu must try these! 🤤
I love the way Chef Lucas describes food. It’s not just the ingredients and how they’re delicious but the purpose of each ingredient and context of history. Nobody does this better!
Those are the thickest noodles I've ever seen. A specialized shop that only serves one dish but has managed to become so successful, you know their food is the real deal. Also i love Chef Lucas, more Chef lucas BA!
Was in Chengdu last year and gorged on all the different snacks they had to offer. Genuinely I think my sis and I ate 10 bowls of just these noodles. Thanks for keeping it real Lucas, as always!
Lucas’s presentation is approachable, fun, and professional - always immediately click on videos he’s in!! He has the ability to make audiences appreciate and understand the art and passion behind a seemingly simple dish
I LOVE this host and the places he visits, but can you put a Maps link, or at least name of the restaurant in the comments of the video? I would love to visit there some day.
洞子口张老二凉粉 is the name of the restaurant mentioned in the vid. I don't live in chengdu myself so you guys can just copy paste this on Google maps (use hongkong sim card and you can access the apps outside of China. Most travel agencies sell them) or, ig, baidu maps app when you're in China
Great video! I could watch Lucas explain the technique over and over again. Makes you feel like you're there. All that's missing is a bowl of actual noodles :P
as a fellow non-native english speaker i too have struggled with the name "rapeseed oil" but i recently learned you can also call it canola oil, so that is now my go to haha
I love how there's a slight pause after MSG so uncle roger can slide in an approval. I was born in Chengdu and I remember getting these every week when I was young and every time I have these it just hits me with nostalgia
9:36 "but there is also water ... and a form of soy sauce". You can tell Lucas's mouth is watering 😂. Lucas is such an excellent ambassador for Chinese food, particularly Sichuan food here, bringing so much professionalism, attention to detail, and passion!!! 💯👍
Everybody goes to Bangkok or Tokyo to eat, you should be going to Chengdu. Trevor James was trying to tell you like 7 years ago, but maybe Lucas will succeed.
fyi tian mian jiang means sweet flour sauce since its starched to thicken , not necessarily noodle sauce as this sauce is traditionally used in many dishes

This dude speaks eloquently in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Chef. It's pretty impressive.
hes definitely canto, hard to fake that southern Chinese demeanor when he was doing the show in HK or he grew up around cantonese people.

😂 i was hoping he could speak some Thai in a few videos back but I'm not hearing any.
his food language is delicious
@@mikileoyou mean food words sound delicious
I think my favourite thing about chef Lucas is his ability to explain technique. You explain everything thoroughly and respectfully.
Lucas needs to release a video every week just talking about a single Chinese dish. It would probably be my favorite thing on RUclips.
He’s the best food explainer I’ve heard, touching on history and technique and flavor in a super clear way
honestly now that i think about it, he might be my favorite food show host out of all the series i’ve followed over the years

Guy is amazing at describing the flavors
Lucas is so well spoken, I could listen to him talk all day

You know you're cool when you have special 'scallion goggles' lol
I didn't know I wanted scallion goggles until now
That amount of scallion can make you cry more than any sad movie.
My boy is back!!!

this is what food blogging should look like - great analysis and professional insights.

Dongzikou Zhang LaoEr Liangfen

That's a lot of physical exertion. A big salute to everyone working to make the food.
easily the best series on bon appetit, please dont ever stop making these

Beautiful to see the effort that goes into handmade noodles.
This is a terrific and complete mini-documentary.
This series is excellent and the host is so knowledgeable and eloquent. More please!
Lucas is back!!!!!Glad to see more of him.
This was my absolute favorite dish when I was in Chengdu last year!! So simple but so delicious.
This looks amazing. My grandma in the midwest made noodles like this but with chicken broth and bits of meat. Every family meal had them.
Lucas might honestly be my fav food show host of all time
I’ve never been into chefs but Lucas’ passion for Asian food and the way he articulates it is hot af 😂
I wish it was more common to sell small portions like this so you can try more dishes before getting full.
5:58 I think Lucas is referring to 拉面(Pulled Noodles), a very common noodle in China
I love this series so much
Love how everyone always fawns over Lucas, super well deserved
Lucas video = you know it’s gonna be a great day!
stocked to see Lucas visiting my hometown and having a blast :)
I could never listen to my 3-hour Human Anatomy and Physiology class back in college... but I can listen to Chef Lucas for 6 hours straight. 😂
Lucas youre a friggin TREASURE. hope you can showcase more China cuisine!
Awesome. I can listen to Lucas talking about food all day :)

What an art, making those noodles. 👊🏽 Love your articulation, of every aspect of a dish…Very impressive.

Hoping for an exploration of Tianshui Malatang!
"Using the momentum to carry through every single stroke" that I can relate 😅
Lucas is back. Instant like.
Surprised to see Lucas actually going to the authentic places that the Chengdu locals would visit. Love to see it!
He made the process of making food just like a sports event. Amazing
I love Chef Lucas' passion
Worth taking the trip for noodles 🍜
I love the idea of "perfectly imperfect". It says it all when talking about these type of noodles.
I just wanna say this too, that kitchen is actually REALLY clean for the kind of food that they serve.
Very impressive, you are very few people can explain the noodle in so detail with English。
We need more Lucas content please. I only watch his videos. None of the others.
These is the type of video that we need
I love watching masters at their craft
Any BA video with Lucas always slaps. The way I’d be a total glutton and eat a Texas sized bowl of these noods 🤤
