Regardless of each episodes storyline, just hearing that ultra funky theme song to begin the show & even more appealing, watching the gorgeous *Kate Mulgrew* in action was always enough for me to hit the play button on these uploads.
I agree I don't believe that lieutenant Columbo as much as he bragged and love his wife would ever get a divorce it would have been better given that she look young if she would have been his daughter. Every episode that man said something positive about his wife that is very rare LOL
@@CrownMe13 Kate Mulgrew was born in 1955.........peter falk was born in 1927..............columbo started in 1971,at that time , Kate Milgrew was 16 and Peter Falk was 44..............but i do not know in which year she was first mentioned................but there is a bit of an age difference.
comment left January 11th 2023 I've watched every episode of Columbo and I agree with you but this series called Mrs Columbo I believe only lasted 2 years. To make the series believable they should have had an appearance by the original Colombo or somebody that looked like him to make it more believable and this reflects the feminist movement of that time. I don't believe being Catholic as the original Columbo was an Italian that he ever would have agreed to a divorce and there should have been more build up about the problems they had if they wanted to make this believable aside from the fact that when he was in London at a Police Convention she couldn't reach him and she was in danger as well as wearing the negligee and waiting for him to come home with champagne and he calls in that he had to work late. This is really not a level two or three character development but Kate Mulgrew was great in the Stargate Series in which she start and she is an excellent actress
I don't know why I love these shows so much. I guess I missed them as I was 20 I guess when they aired and was busy being young. I sure appreciate watching them know! I certainly remember the gas lines. The storylines, characters, clothes and styles are so appealing. Classy, not trashy❤️
I’m really enjoying this series. I do remember when I was much younger (hopefully much much younger :-)) watching the original Colombo series. I was rather young and couldn’t really understand how great it was back then but I am enjoying this spin off even though it is quite old as well.
Columbo would never have gotten a divorce. She should have been cast as Columbo's daughter not his wife. I like the show but not believable at all as Mrs. Columbo.
Yeah, I guess the writers didn't really follow the Colombo series too much, otherwise they would have known that his traditional Italian wife was his age, liked cooking , opera, singing, dancing and gardening, making him sandwiches for work and was called Rose...and yeah, being Catholic, they don't like divorcing.
@@RescueKyron well, I guess, you didn't really follow the Columbo series too much, otherwise you'd know that his traditional Italian wife was his age, liked cooking , opera, singing, dancing and gardening, making him sandwiches for work and was called Rose...besides them having kids and being catholic. They luckily later realized their mistake and changed the story line to it being a different Columbo and soon after she got divorced.
You're so absolutely right. And @Yasmine Dey so well said! You're absolutely right about how Columbo's wife Rose was portrayed, and it was all repeated over and over...remember how he was always listening to opera in his car or on the murderers record player 😂 and he would always make some comment about how he and Mrs Columbo would enjoy whatever piece it was together at home. Oh...and one more thing...it's not a matter of agreeing with you, you're quite simply correct 😀
KATE MULGREW IS ONE A WOMAN I WOULD LOVE TO MEET IN PERSON. SHE'S SO NATURAL AND DOESN'T PAINT HER FACE UP SO THICK SHE LOOKS UNREAL. SO WHY DON'T WE SEE HER ANYMORE? SHE REMINDS ME OF KATHRINE HEPBURN BECAUSE OF HER NATURAL BEAUTY AND BREATH OF FRESH AIR PERSONALITY
Susan Howe We See her all the time. She’s very present with her book and conventions in RL, and she finished Orange is the New Black and can now be seen in Mr Mercedes. 😉 She’ll also be back on the theater stage in November.
@@thekatecrusade5013 OMG! I did not realise that she played Red in OITNB. I’ve only just found the Kate Crusade series. She truly is an amazing actress..
I know in season 2 episode 4 they mentioned they were divorced. I guess they felt they had to explain why he was never at home but the audience didn't mind that. Seemed it was a cute play on the other Columbo show where we never saw his wife.
Another episode where she's going to be alone with a suspected killer and doesn't tell the police. Then meets with him in a big, dark, deserted place and confronts him about his wrongdoings. Up to luck for her to be saved somehow. 😖. I like Kate Mulgrew so much, these scripts sunk her in this series. 😒
Why is the heroine always going alone , in the middle of the night, to an isolated place ? I’m a very curious person but wild horses couldn’t drag me out of my home as the sun reaches a 50 degree angle from the horizon !
Kate Mulgrew was fantastic in this series. While the plots might be a tad unbelievable, her acting and characterization make the episodes worthwhile viewing. It's hard to believe she was in her mid-20's when these aired-she has the poise, likability, and charm of a veteran actor in every scene.
It seems hard to think anyone would put themselves in so much danger but for a good story this is what reporters do. The don't get good stories but nicely asking people questions, people don't go around telling on thenselves
In S02, E04, Kate was practically in love with the Valley Strangler. Now, in this episode, she's flirting with another killer. Is Kate damaged in some way that she finds these guys? Also, in this episode, she's handling evidence (car of the "pickpocket lady" who was dead in her car) with her ungloved hands. This show was made in 1979 - 80, Wasn't wearing of gloves at a scene a regular thing then?
This series comfort me because Kate is resembling my mother at that time. She has the same occupation, wears similar clothes. She behaves the way my mother should behave. Kate with her vivid character and open heart is the mother I can dream about, mother I deserve.
David Rasche's character tried to kill Mrs Columbo in this Episode. While in a later Episode of (Mr !) Columbo he was a killer with with Columbo"s real life wife!! A d if that is not enough for you he was Inspector Sledgehammer in a 2 season run of that TV series laying down the law to rid raff young hoodlums!!
I can only guess that by this time in the show's life, they'd completely given up on the gimmick of her being Mrs. Columbo, of Lieutenant Columbo fame. They kept the name on the opening credits, for some reason. But the show changed in so many ways from season 1 to season 2. The name of the paper she works for as a really obvious one, and the basset hound mysteriously disappeared, etc. That's probably when this change happened too. I don't think they EVER meant to say that Lieutenant and Mrs. Columbo actually divorced. Just that whoever she was supposed to be by this time, and her nameless, faceless, completely unimportant, husband had divorced. I don't think they would ever have intentionally dissed the Columbo show like that. Peter Falk was never a supporter of that gimmick, but I never read that he was an active enemy.
searched "Sharon Farrell " playing Dorothy Hunt now, 81. She hid her medical problem of "serious brain damage that resulted in memory loss and physical impairments" she worked to restore

Totally disagree. Perfect as Colombo's wife. Relationship added intrigue and stability as a family with daughter.

One gallon of gas at $ 1.08. Boy, do I feel depressed!
I believe the show was in 1979, I am surprised that a gallon of gas wasn't under a buck. Perhaps in California is more expensive.

I do remember a time afterward about 2001 that gas dipped to $1.09. Was very magical for a "brief" moment.
