I am so use to Her Russian Accent as Red in Orange is the New Black and it shocks me that she speaks perfect English.
She speaks perfect english in OITNB too.. just with an accent
She actually did the Russian accent before. Look up Batman the Animated Series villain Red Claw.
Right! It’s not even just the Russian accent itself, but her voice that she used throughout the series was much deeper & harsher than her regular speaking voice. That’s a lot of strain to have on one’s voice.
She'll always be Captain Kathryn Janeway to me
Same here
Agreed!!

Star Trek Voyager is about to come on Heroes and Icons TV.
@@kenb2671 heck yea. and most of the day tuesday and thursday on BBC-America..
When Voyager came on my wife had me a pizza each ep. She did that for at least the first season. I can recall sitting in the middle of the bed eating pizza and watching Voyager. She passed away Jan. Got my memories....not really enough .Miss her. 31 years little soulmate.
I am sorry to hear that. Good luck with life
My first thought was "jeez that is a lot of pizza". But then I remembered back then we watched 1 episode a week. I discovered the series by binging it on Amazon and taking a few months to get through the whole series. It's hard to remember that 6 years were going by while I am binging. Sorry for your loss.
I'm sorry for your loss. How beautiful that you could share those stories and characters together. My partner and I also sit down to watch Star Trek together regularly. I hope you're doing well.
I’m so sorry.
Those memories are priceless. Hold on to them. We’re all lucky to find even just one great love. Luckier still to love them into the end. My heart brakes for you. Remember her whenever you rewatch the show...
"...on the lip of my bridge..." MY bridge omg that gave me chills she really captained that bridge like she owned it, i love it
God, she’s got such grace and poise. Honestly, even now I can see that Captain Janeway swagger, that confidence, that wisdom. She’s been an inspiration to me for years
I never thought of it but yea. She has omega level swagger.
@@videovoidtv, I keep trying to type a reply to you but all I get is my screen locking up with a Ω symbol.
pixel girl my comment is unstable and attempting to destroy the space time continuum. My bad.
I think she's a great example of how a woman can be sexy not solely based on her looks.
Don't get me wrong, Capt. Janeway is a beautiful woman, but she was also strong, smart, assertive and a great leader, which made her even sexier.
Truth be told, ..I enjoyed Kate Mulgrew's portrayal of a Starfleet Captain more than any other.
I've watched DS9, Enterprise and Voyager and some of the two originals and I must say her Captain was the closest to what I would imagine the Star Trek Universe would have. Janeway was intelligent, strong and dedicated character but also full of compassion and empathy and understanding. She displayed power when it was needed to and was your best friend in times of fun. Her relations with crew was spot on for me, especially with Kim. She didn't looked down on anyone and seemed equal to others while still being Captain and having respect. All this yet she never was Mary Sue, she relied on others and we saw her struggle multiple times. I think It's just the best portrayal of ideal Captain in the Star Trek Universe and very good portrayal of "strong independent woman" that even the men like :)
oh and by the way I love the little smirk she made every now and then.
I so love this lady. What an actress. What a teacher. (Also, what a Star Fleet captain!)
Admiral, just to be an annoying pedant 🖖
@@DissociatedWomenIncorporated LOL. Duly noted. Duly noted.
She's truly one-of-a-kind!
@@entertainmentweekly What did she mean when she said Shelley
Long had to be the winning person she was about Cheers? What did she mean by that?
Voyager was my first Star Trek show I was watched on it's first run and boy, did she impress me. I never even thought about doubting a female captain. Captain Janeway had to make the toughest calls of all Captains and carry them out with will, dignity, passion and confidence and boy, she did!
Kate Mulgrew, what a classy and talented woman! And I agree with Beth w's post, "She'll always be Captain Kathryn Janeway to me." Nice job on the interview!
“My bridge”
Love it. 👌🏻
This presenter is great! So Natural and warm, love her!
I literally made note of her name and intend to seek out her future work. She was SUPERB.
We think she's pretty great, too! 😊😀
@@beatnickblanket So glad you enjoyed this interview!! Be sure to check out new episodes of "Couch Surfing" with Lola every week!
Danny Oliver False is the word you were looking for
The BEST Starfleet captain if you ask me
Please don't start the "best captain" argument you're going to incite some very heated debates.
Efstathios Dimopoulos literally it’s my opinion and if someone doesn’t like it they’re free to move on. But, let me rephrase for those with their delicate sensibilities that can’t handle someone having a different opinion. She is the BEST Starfleet captain in *my opinion*
@@asicdathens
There will be no heated debate
Picard is and will be the best captain, and that's a scientific fact.
@@ChristianIce My opinion as well.
I guess with Star Trek it is like it is with Doctor Who. Every Whovian has "their Doctor", the one they liked and sympathized the most with and every Star Trek Fan has "their Captain". Mine is Captain Janeway , my best friend prefers Captain Picard. No heated argument needed.
Isn't "Orange" just one of Captain Janeway's Holodeck Programs?
Lol yes
and lori petty is not crazy, it is all a conspiracy and she is tank girl
thatd actually be so funny
LOL. Brilliant comment.
Kate, you are a class act!
I grew up with Trekkie parents which ultimately led to my love and fascination with Star Trek and all things sci-fi and fantasy.
Then when we sat down for the first time to watch OITNB, not knowing much about it before we did, and saw your radiant face gracing our screen again, we were overcome with joy!!!
You have forever been a constant in our households, and I will be sure to show my future children your portrayals of strong, loving and independent women.
Thank you!!!
James, this lady is the reason I took a look at OITNB. I'd heard of this new show (on this new thing called Netflix, whatever that was), but when I read Kate Mulgrew was part of the ensemble cast, I checked it out ... for seven years. However, she'll always be Captain Janeway to me.
This is just... 😍

😊
Thanks for the great interview with one of my favourites, EW 👍
“There she is” Best moment of the video. Such an icon.
She is ah-mazing! So happy to know her after watching Orange
Her Star Trek character is just as bad ass as Red is. I was a kid when she became Captain and Star Trek fans loved her.
Captain Janeway will always have a big place in my heart next to Jean-Luc Picard! two of the all time legends of star trek!
in terms of Captains yes i totally agree i however would add The Doctor From Voyager, Neelix, Seven of Nine, Spock, Scotty (The original not the new version), and of course McCoy to my favourites of all time. Even the song about DR. McCoy by S.P.O.C.K. is great
damn no love for ds9
@@veggielord1740 I do love ds9 also, sisco is really good, the whole show is, took me getting older to appreciate ds9 as much as i do all the others
@Rays Through Trees, Summer Breeze you mean you don’t like EPIC SPACE BATTLES with LASERS AND PROTON PHOTON TORPEDOS and SPACE RACISM and OUR VERY NUANCED THEMES ABOUT DONALD TRUMP IN AMERICA and DARK DREARY REAL GRIPPING SCI FI ACTION from CBS ALL ACCESS (please don’t cancel it).
Kate Mulgrew: nothing but love and respect for her.
I just love this Lady.
Janway's imprint was so powerful I didn't realize how much I'd seen Mulgrew throughout her career.
Captain Janeway forever. She awsome. Love her in voyager.
(Orange is the New Black Spoilers!!)
Having seen every episode of Voyager with her and then seeing Kate Mulgrew in the last season of Orange is the new Black was heartbreaking. Seeing this person, who I knew as the great Captain Janeway who lead her crew home, slowly loosing her memories in prison... Man. It hurt. Although it's just acting and although they are two different characters, I saw them as the same person.
Helo such a great actor to be able to play two such strong parts. Took me a while to realise Kate was Janeway due to her inhabiting Red so well.
I loved the way this went! She seemed to enjoy the recollection of her many facets of her career.
A true actor! I thoroughly enjoyed watching her responses to her epic acting careers. She can handle any acting experience. True thespian. Bravo!
Yea. It did seem like a treat for her to go through the clips.
Janeway was such a great captain....other than threatening to self destruct Voyager every six or so episodes lol
No she really wasn't. Even she admitted her character came off as someone with serious mental problems.
At least she didn’t destroy two ships like Picard did
I been watching orange is the new black all these years and never knew that was Janeway. I’m lose!!
One of the best actors ever!
She as Captain Janeway was awesome, Star Trek Voyager is my alltime favourite series since childhood!
Real Trek fans as myself didn't even bat an eye at the idea of a female captain of a Star Ship. X gen had the idea of equality drilled into us so it's like please it's the "future" so it should be normal.
I was surprised there was no acknowledgement of her voiceover work, I’m a big Dragon Age fan and Flemeth is a stand out performance. But then looking back on 7 years on Star Trek and another 7 on Orange and you see a few weeks of voiceover work is a drop in the ocean
If I had to pick a Starfleet Captain to serve under, it would be Janeway.
The Borg:
“ resistance is futile”
Janeway:
“You have one of my crew members.”
I remember when i was a kid, watching Cheers and the Simpsons, one day i turned of Star trek Voyager and was entranced by her.
I've never seen any of her movies/shows but this is the second interview of hers I've watched today.
Im just entranced by the sheer elegance of this woman.
This lady is absolutely brilliant. Such a great actor.
Very martyred Mulgrew, you remind me so much of my mother. She is the most beautiful person I have ever seen and you look very very much like her. Also from your body language and embroidery. AND she does exactly the same annoying touch with her arms when I talk to her -.- ...... XD
I loved Star Trek Voyager and mostly just watch OITNB because of you. Therefore, I would so much wish that you would be part of the new Picard series.
Thank you for everything and best regards.
same XD she looks like she could be a family member in my case
That was absolutely wonderful. Eleven minutes of the most heartfelt and meaningful talk. Especially for someone who learned " Danny Boy" from Maeve Ryan singing atop the bar on Ryan's Hope and loved the Delta Quadrant Adventures. You both were sensational, thank you.
So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!
This woman is AMAZING! What a talented human being! So blown away by her work as Red
I love you so much Kate Mulgrew! Captain Janeway made me watch Star Trek for the first time. Currently " Voyager" is on British TV and I'm still crazy about it, even though I have seen it God knows how many times. The best Captain in Star Trek for me.😍😍😍😍😍
Love " Voyager", love Janeway.💖💖💖
My favorite Star Trek Captain!
@@okidoke4822 All of the captains have their merits. I have watched all the series many times and like them all mostly, but some episodes and characters more than others. Many of my favorite episodes come from DS9, but there are many things I did not like about the show. It's all give and take and Janeway wins for me, with Picard next and then Kirk. :)
@@okidoke4822 And you are not? "Oh My"
A truly exceptional actress, a complicated and immensely thoughtful woman, who has lived a wonderful rollercoaster life and career. Her life is such a spectrum of everything; pain and love, sucesses and failures, tragedy and redemption. What a remarkable woman. Id love to just sit and have tea with her, her strength reminds me a lot of my grandmothers character.
Irish catholic.. i never knew, but hearing the name now makes sense. What an amazing life story and I'm gonna read her books. Brings a whole new perspective to her. Amazing
She will always be in my heart no matter what role she takes on.
I hope Admiral Janeway can be a part of the new Star Trek Picard.
Picard and Janeway should have hooked up
Left out my favorite scene from Warehouse 13
When Jane Lattimer uses a Mohamed style upper cut to put down a bad guy.
Oh yeah! Jane Lattimer was awesome!!
Her voice is so distinct; it has a sharp grace
I would follow to hell and back if Captain Janeway was my C.O.
I would, but only if she had consistent writers.
She’ll always be my Captain Janeway. The most courageous Captain in the history of Starfleet.
Janeway (and Vouager as a whole) deserved more consistent writing, but Kate was fantastic regardless!
I love her, she is the reason my 2 daughters when in to service.
I have had the pleasure to meet this woman, I grow up with her on voyager and meeting her was amazing, I have never stopped smiling since that day, love this woman.
kate is such an extraordinary actress and women.
You guys seemed so comfortable with each other. This was worth watching, no cringe, just genuine feelings and fun between 2 beautiful women seemed like!!!!!!
Wonderful woman, had the pleasure of meeting her at a backstage party at a ST convention and had a long chat with her (not long after she reunited with her daughter who she beamed when she spoke about). forever my Captain!
Wow this episode was amazing!!
Great interview! I learned so much about Mulgrew that I didn't know before.
It’s funny I’m just catching these now Kate Mulgrew is one of my favorites she’s beautiful smart and a very good actress would like to someday meet her we shall see I still watch Voyager every day love it of course that’s not the only one I watch all the star tracks I also watch all the Stargate anything about space I love.
I am a male conservative. I did not care if she was male or female. Captain Janeway was a great character and a great captain and Kate Mulgrew did a great job!
I absolutely love Kate Mulgrew, her character as Captain Janeway always brought the best out of me. learned courage fast.
of all the Star Trek captains, i loved her the most. Such a good actress
"the great love of my life, who was my mother" what a beautiful thing to say
and I think I feel the same way about my mother :)
Love red from OITNB! lucky to met her and took a picture with her at the premiere of orange, an amazing actress and person
Her resemblance to Katherine Hepburn - voice, manner, looks, personality - is UNCANNY. And a terrific actress in her own right.
What a gem. I hated her storyline in the end of the show.
I thought it was bitter sweet. Nikki with the red lipstick on in the kitchen brought it full circle. Sad but real.
Gosh I thought she was actually russian. She’s such a sweet person, Hope to see her in more big things.
Growing up and seeing her as a Star Trek captian was more powerful than I have even realized until I saw her on OITNB. For Millennial women, she is part of the fabric of our confidence in never doubting that we are capable of what a man can accomplish. We have to work even harder as it is like going against the flow of a river while the men float along.
First, have to say I LOVE ST Voyager. My favorite storyline in the whole series.
But shout out to the interviewer for asking somewhat thoughtful questions! For some reason , most other interviews I've watched lately were horrible and it made me wonder how these people get these jobs..however this interviewer came across as having done her research or maybe she's just a fan or maybe both! Either way, great vid.
a WONDERFUL interview!!!!
I LOVE this actress ❤❤❤
Will always see her as the Great Kate
Wonderful actress.
She is such an inspiring woman that brings out the best in you. She is so underrated and she should have been in many, many big movies because she is such a great actress but because she held onto her moral compass, they sidetracked her.
I'm Kate Mulgrew's fan she is a good actist. After seeing this nice interview of her. Now I understands some things she wrote in her book. She is very charming and down to earth.
love love love Kate Mulgrew!
❤️adore Kate Mulgrew! Loved Captain Janeeay and Red - OMG was so happy to see her get this amazing role! Also...she looks amazing and I want those slacks! .
What a fantastic interviewer!
There's the right way, the wrong way, and the Janeway. Many thanks to Ms. Mulgrew and her fantastic acting!
Amazing person and beautiful interview! Great interviewer.
I love kate.Such a good actress.I guess this really ages me.She played a strong Irish woman in Ryan's Hope. I loved Mary Ryan.It broke my heart when she left that role. I am so glad she mentions Claire Labine. One of the great writers of daytime. To this day, Ryan's Hope is still perfection and is still my favourite daytime Soap. There was no opportunity to record the show back then. Are then any episodes still floating around?
WOW. Cool stuff
Very cool
3:50 "THERE she is",
LOL hell yeah
Janeway got me into Star Trek. Kate is my all-time favorite actress. Voyager got me through some of the toughest times in my life.
Same
Love Kate, I will always know her as Captain Janeway. It’s the first thing I recall seeing her in first.
Janeway and Red are my favourite characters in both shows. Kate's amazing.
So articulate and well read. Thespians will outlive us all.
Always loved Kate Mulgrew. Her reminiscing of times in Ireland. Glass of whisky and lamb in the oven. Has Lieutenant Barkley would say,
“ Perfection”
I really like her, she comes across as so funny, humble & gracious! ✊🏾
I remember seeing her too in the movie Remo Williams.
I would love for her to be in some episodes of Star Trek: Picard as Admiral Janeway. That would be AWESOME!!
I dont think she wants to be associated with Picard. Im deeply worried its just not going to be that good.
@@MichaelNNY why tho?
I gotta say, and I’m a little
Late to the party, but Lola Ogunnaike conducted such a good interview with Mulgrew. Just… well researched, thoughtful questions. That can feel quite rare on a press junket.
I’m currently watching Voyager so I wasn’t surprised to see a spoiler when I clicked on this 😂
From the time I was 4 I wanted to be just like Captain Janeway. I prayed every night for those guys to travel back in time and beam me up. I even cut my long long hair to like Kate. She was my hero. She was the first women I had ever seen to be portrayed so powerfully. She had more whit, strength and cunning than good ol' Capt. Kirk had in his pinky finger. If it wasn't for Janeway, I would definitely not be the women I am today. Thanks Kate for literally being one of the greatest influences in my life. Your own strength and smarts transends through your characters, inspiring many young women just like myself. I look forward to many great works in the future
Exceptional lady and an exceptionally good interviewer. Well done!
Wow! Young Kate!
It was seeing Kate Mulgrew name on a show called orange is the new black, that got me curious about the show, and I became addicted not straight away I must admit, but I've binge watched this show, i'm half way through season 3 at the minute, but what saddens me a little is that if I hadn't seen Kate Mulgrews name I probably wouldn't have watched it, as it's not the kinda show i'd watch, and I would have been a lesser person for missing such an amazing show,All the actors and actresses are amazing and believable, the wroters are brilliant, the show has such character depth, not seen in other shows, the way it flashes back into characters lives before prison is superb, I don't have a favourite character on the show, as I feel this may diminish the other fine actresses and actors, alls I can say is they are ALL leaving an impression upon me. I'll remember this show for a very long time and thank you Kate Mulgrew for accepting a role in the show..when I think sometimes my job can be difficult, it doesn't compare to having to speak Russian on camera. Back to another episode I think.
Omg I love her!!!
I love her I never watched Star Trek. Look at how fabulous she looks!❤
I love you Kate!!! Captain Janeway and Flemeth!!!
Love my Captain
Voyager is part of my heart. If it were to ever disappear for some reason, it would literally leave a Voyager shaped whole in my heart 🥺💗❤️
Love her❤️
Our Captain Janeway. Such an inspiration.
Loved it.
Wonderful interviewer, atune to shifts in mood and reacting with kindness and generosity of spirit.
I love Kate Mulgrews acting and shes done such wonderful thing for so many series... :)
id be glad to pitch a star trek script that would utilize her in a pre-primetimeline of star trek where she basically saves the world from a augment war and would prevent the borg from taking over the forementioned world etc over the course of several seasons where she was not a starship captain but a time agent traveling from world to world in different periods of time, so then the world would atleast have one tv show about a time traveller that was fun to watch again
Voyager and tng are my favorites. Helped get me through a year of burn out and depression. I was so disappointed when netflix removed voyager.
