While true, Conan’s also very good at letting his guests control the conversation without letting go of the leash- at will, he’ll turn a serious moment into a joke, segue into a different topic, or get his guest to talk about or do something they normally wouldn’t. So I’d say his guests have a bit of breathing room, as well as the illusion of control. An example in this one: Kate starts asking about Conan’s personal life and he goes along with it for a bit before flipping the table on her, and ending the topic with the Hallmark joke.
Yea that's the thing with dominant personalities. They always find themselves in the dominant position without even trying. It's really not by choice and it can be hard sometimes because it's intimidating to some folks especially when you don't want to be intimidating. and it can be exhausting trying to tune it down for others. and when you aren't able to tune it down anymore this happens lmao. Btw it's no doubt that dominant ambiance is what got her that captain role. and it was one of the most fitting roles for her too.
I love Kate Mulgrew, and I love her voice! This may be the first time I've heard her speak off of Voyager, so I was a bit surprised to hear that her voice just is that way. I can't tell if it's an accent - quasi-British or WASPy New England -- or maybe it's her erudite diction combined with a hushed raspiness. Whatever it is, I can't get enough of it!
Oh man you got to watch the sci fi film with her in ! I can't remember what it's called 🤪 but it's great its about a woman that lives on a farm with her disabled son who has a encounter with a UFO at the end he gets cured and walks again,

It’s almost as if someone identified that and put her onstage as Katharine Hepburn... oh wait... (excuse the sarcasm - if you didn’t know, she played KH in Tea at Five) x
She looks so much prettier in person. Those hair doos on Voyager do not look anywhere near as good as this. Wow I just looked it up and she is 40 years old there. Really looks great for her age.
@@davebrittain9216 Well, wigs can take a long time, too. I know for a fact they were wigs because Robert Duncan McNeil and Garret Wang talked about it in their podcast ‚The Delta Flyers‘. It’s actually quite entertaining, they dissect every episode of Star Trek Voyager and Talk about their experiences on set. It’s actually quite good, I can recommend it.
It was pretty strange as someone who was on the interwebs back then seeing it go from a niche thing to a ubiquitous presence in everyone's life. I knew it would always happen... I didn't expect it'd make society devolve so much though. >__>
@@SpottedBullet I know what you are saying. The same sort of opinion when TNG first come out. And yes many things in Picard and Discovery doesn't make sense when you treat the last two generation as history (actually they start breaking that with Enterprise), more so with Discovery. But its not an actual history isn't it. It is just a show and what is important for a show is to capture audience. Discovery has certainly done that (not sure about Picard). I remember my ex who is not a trek fan and totally lost when watching Generation but absolutely enjoy First Contact. Discovery is doing the same to a new generation of audience. So it wouldn't be a bad idea to do a cross over to show the new audience where the show came from.
Well, she does sound a lot like (and even looked a bit like) Katharine Hepburn. To this day I don't know why they cast Cate Blanchett and not Kate Mulgrew as Katharine Hepburn in the Aviator.
The cynic in me says Cate Blanchett was (and is) a much bigger name in Hollywood. (She’s very good, actually) That alone has put many, many talented actors in the backlight. It’s possible age played a part too. That’s not to say that I wouldn’t have loved to see KM in the role!
There were two ways this interview could've gone: the wrong way..or the Janeway.
