I'll put it into perspective for everyone, if someone took the doses of the compounds all of these golden era guys took does anyone think they would look like them??? Even people with equal genetics and modern day supplements+dietary advancements that have happened since then. Even with all of the advancements in workout equipment. No, they wouldn't. Maybe the low level pros, but not the Olympians that say they took 30mg of dbol and an amp of primo a week. "Oh well their gear was all pharma grade and better quality". We have pharma grade gear as well as pharma grade growth hormone. These guys grew up in an era where steroids weren't talked about like they are now, even though they were fully legal all the way up until the 90's baseball BS. They must have all made a pact to not speak on it and downplay everything. I'm not saying some of them took close to nothing, but come on. There is a common theme here

I saw Waller at Gold's Venice in 1981. By early 80s standards Waller was actually " huge"

I was a bodybuilder back in the 80's & that was typically the cycle period that I saw. And the cocktail used by many back then was D-bol & Deca. In fact, so many guys used D-bol from competitive bodybuilders/powerlifters to gym rats looking to get big for the girls. Lol. I cant remember the forum but there were articles from newspapers about different steroid issues in football. In the 1950s not just the pro footballers but all the way down to high school football teams had steroid programs.
In the 60s it seemed ike more steroids were available and players were getting injections of deca from their drs as well as an assortment of orals were available like dbol, anavar, nilevar etc.
If high school kids were taking 10-15mg a day of dbol in the 1950s, Im sure bbers in the 70s were taking a crap load more.

I remember reading one of Rick Wayne's books--3 More Reps--where Waller said that he'd been taking 'roids since 1968, but he was already 210 pounds and pretty solid from working out and playing football before he touched a steroid. As for the story of one guy coming in at 145 and two weeks later weighing 195...total crap. You're going to gain weight on 'roids if you shovel down the food and train hard but that much weight in two weeks is impossible.
As for what Waller actually took, I doubt he's telling the entire truth. No pro, past or present, is ever going to give their exact cycle...I'm sure he took more than what he said he did. At least he was honest in saying that took; Zane often said that he relied on great nutrition and amino acids to get where he got. If he hadn't taken 'roids, he'd have weighed around 175 instead of 190 (at his very best).

I find the "steroid doctors" to be of extreme interest to me- for I wonder what their gain was in the equation. Was Weider paying them for their "services"? True, they weren't controlled substances at the time... yet, needed an RX from a gatekeeper as I would imagine no black market existed at this time.
Still, there are ethical questions as to why doctors would write RX for those with no medicinal need.

I'd like to ask some of these guys what they did for a living. BB did not pay squat until around1980, though a few very top guys could make a little from endorsements and appearances. But a lot of them seemed to have money while almost training for a living. Back in 1972, Arthur Jones told me a lot of the guys were homosexual prostitutes, but I have no idea how true that was at the time. I know some of that kind of thing went on in the 50s when there was some crossover between gay and physique magazines, etc. But anyway, getting away from that topic for a minute, in this interview Waller mentions having a Corvette and a 33 ft. Chris Craft. He played football in Canada in the early 70s, so that would not have paid much. But my question is not just about him anyway, a lot of the guys talk about training for long hours, then getting suntans, practicing posing, etc. Then some also mention using large quantities of supplements which could be expensive. Even now although the prize money is big for the top few, I don't quite get how they can devote their life to the sport and still have money. This is not the NFL where a 3rd round draft pick on a losing team still gets a million a year.
