Spector - SIR !..... I'm a mere 59 year old beginner :) and I thought this was an easy thing to learn, never even read music etc - Then after watching the film "Ray" on Netflix it changed perspective - hat off to you sir :) you also ROCK - all best wishes
@@ad_asquare Hi Adesh - opportunity. Born in war still on ration books when I went to a seminary. Looking for work anywhere in the world after. Finally working 14 hour days until a heart attack slowed me down at 70. Convalescing I saw boogie woogie on RUclips I used to love to jive so I figured lets at least play. This is not a complaint. I did better than many. One needs a firm home base and a supportive environment to get into music. Some places like New Orleans had entire neighbourhoods that albeit lacking cash had the desire to lead children into music thus Louis Armstrong et al
I saw Brother Ray at the Blue Note in Greenwich Village live. It was a blow away experience seeing him live in a small room. As a bonus I got to shake his (big) hand as he was walked in.
Thanks for this insightful tutorial on the genius of soul (Ray Charles). I love this song so much and I've tried playing the chords often. I love how you have broken down the chords and really gained some tricks too. Thanks.
Thank you for this video and all your others I've seen. You have a very practical and clear approach to teaching that hasn't made me feel lost. I started practicing daily on the piano at the beginning of this year, after having played guitar and drums for a long time. I've found that the piano has taught me things about how music works that I could never have learned on another instrument. I've also found that there's enough music theory I haven't learned yet that it can get overwhelming and confusing, unless it gets broken down into simple, small bits. Thank you for being so good at doing that. Also, I've loved Ray Charles' music since I was a little kid in the 1960s, and this is part of how his music lives on.
I'm in my 4th year of self taught Piano/Keyboards and I actually picked this up rather quickly I impressed myself, Lol! I've been a guitarist for 53 years I started when I was 7 and wanted to learn the Piano so, I bought one and I'm teaching myself. P.S "The Lick" is still a bit tricky but I'll get it.
Simple, easy to follow tutorial. Within half an hour I was starting to get it. I think I’ll just need a couple of days to feel comfortable. Thank you so much!
I very much appreciate your approach to teaching. Thank you for putting this out there. As many others have said already in these comments, we adult students need teachers like you! Thank you, thank you 🙏❤️✌️
You made my day! I wanted to learn this so bad! I took piano lessons to learn it and I got no where!. I thought I would try RUclips to learn whatever I can.. And you brightened my day! Now I have to take my time and learn it. Thank you!
Thank you awesome teaching technique, I'm a beginner and although I thought this was way out of my league I followed your instructions and within a couple of weeks I got the polyrhythmic thing and this has totally helped my hand independence. I was struggling to get past 2 handed scales onto something musical (that I wanted to listen to) and this worked. I have to say it was hard work, but by breaking it down and learning it slowly I eventually put both hands together and without thinking the rhythm came into my hands. Think it helps that I love this song and grew up hearing it (yeah I am old). Thanks so much for sharing this! 😎
Great video I love music theory so this solicited a lot of confusing concepts into a visual and audio break down I could understand and your good at explaining the notes relationship to each other.
Way cool, Jordan. I've loved that groove ever since I first heard it in about 1958. Having watched this I might actually learn to play it. The girl with the diamond ring has nothing on you.
Amazing! One of the tenets of teaching (I was a teacher) is "Demystify the classics." So show how spectacular songs like Foggy Mountain Breakdown are (sort of) easily played on the banjo, or Johnny B Goode works in guitar. Your breakdown is fabulous and easily grasped. Thanks so much!
Great lesson Piano note. I'm getting into piano as a longtime guitarist and the 5th. chord was a little sketchy to play on guitar. Loved Ray Charles. Thank You sir!
Hi Jordan, this is great and thanks for this blues progression, but it would be sooooooooooooo helpful, if you could play also the right hand separately from the left hand through the whole lot as you did with left hand.
Sounds like the octave note changes a bit from playing the left hand on it's own, to actually putting both hands together. If you compare from the very very beginning of the video, with circa 5:30. At the beginning the octave hits on the beat, but at 5:30 the right hand hits the chord on the beat and the octave comes right after. It's hard to hear though, so I might be wrong, but that kind of solved the practise for me when I started doing that!
I’m simply a intermediate type player in general but just starting to want to learn blues piano 🎹 and some coordination drills for combining left and right hand runs licks etc…would love to start out with some slow blues perhaps with one chord left hand with some right hand runs licks etc to start…thanks ❤so much and look forward to viewing your channel for upcoming lessons with this in mind thanks 🙏
Man! This is awesome!!!! Excellent teaching process, Pianote! I absolutely love your approach. Camera work is also primo! Thanks so much for breaking it all down so well. I think I might be able to actually play this -- with a lot of work, but at least I have a chance with your breakdown. Cheers!
Great lesson, thank you. In my brain it was easier to do the popping triad and octive, then add in the following notes. but it's a great groove, thank you.
Thank you so much for the wonderful lesson and taking time out of your day to help people that want to learn. It helped me a lot. IGNORE MEAN PEOPLE THAT POST NEGATIVE FEEDBACK, they are classless, rude people. It's always someone who doesn't contribute to society that do all the complaining. Thank you again!!!
Thank you for the Video man , ive been playing guitar for the past 15 years and im getting a panio this weekend. i am so stoked to start my 88 keys journey !
I think I mistakenly slipped through a loophole from lovely beginner land with Lisa to THIS ''watch this as I play it slowly' - plays faster than warp speed' crazy town! I wanna go baaaaack! Helllllp! Haha. Thanks Jordan...this is an excellent session! I'm playing the bassline while I type this message!
perfect. finally got the right hand part right. thanks. helps to sing the right hand part to get the rhythm and to make sure you catch the last hit in the phrase
The people complaining that this lesson does not correctly reproduce the Ray Charles original are CORRECT. The two fives, back to back in the bass line are incorrect, for example. Learners would be better off making a tape loop out of the RC original and playing along with it every day for a few weeks...or months. You might get it eventually if you have a good ear and a good sense of time. If you follow this guy you will be learning mistakes. It's easier to learn it correctly than to unlearn the mistakes which have become automatic. If you learn this version - good luck on reprogramming the automatic mistakes...
Very good, apart from one thing I couldn't follow. It's not clear what the left hand is playing on the final two bars: B7->A7. Do I still play "the bass riff" or just hold chords in the left hand?
I understand that this is a beginners lesson but you could show cool things we could add in the song, for example playing something cool with the right hand in the intro or something, still good tutorial
After this bright presentation , i would like , in order to try to imitate it ,to read a sheet music of the notes ... Could you tell me if members of Pianote can obtain it and how ? Thank, you
Learned it completely thanks! I practiced it with a metronome as well to get the timing right. Not sure it sounds exactly like yours but hey I learned something new today! 👍👍
Hey thanks for posting this! Some feedback: I personally would appreciate seeing a slow clear progression of the right hand chords before getting into coordinating L/R or licks.
Hi Jorden Do you any more blues tutorials I think I can follow you so well Having been a classical musician all my life I would just love to play the Blues You are truly amazing. Thank you so much Sincerely Barbra U k
It's because you're following using your eyes not your ears. He tells you what to play, one time on the 1 note, two times 5, one time 7 and one time octave
Thank you so much always was trying to figure that out it really is quite simple it's just getting that poly rhythmic brush that is so amazing thanks so much please do more more turnarounds, blues turnarounds, help! God Bless!
Love this tutorial but I’m having difficulty with the left hand. I’m finding it difficult to keep my pinky finger on the root while reaching over to hit the 5th with my middle. Any helpful hints for someone with small hands?
Hey! Don't strain your hands you don't want to injure yourself. The more you play your hands will naturally become more flexible and your reach will Improve. Until then don't worry about your pinky lifting off the E as long as you're trying. One-trick I use to reach tough intervals is to play at the bottom of the key with the tip of my finger and roll my wrist as I'm going up.

Just wanted to know from anyone of you sirs what kept you from starting so long? Or was it an interest developed later?

So good!
Hi Jordan, this is great and thanks for this blues progression, but it would be sooooooooooooo helpful, if you could play also the right hand separately from the left hand through the whole lot as you did with left hand.
I like how you've syncopated the left hand. It's not just eight notes, but it has a nice syncopation. Others do not show this. good job!

Okay , some assembly required , but THANK you , I feel hopeful ( & like I'm jumping in on the deep end ). Thanks for taking the time
Hey - this was a very fun lesson. I take lessons 1x week and look for some fun extra's. You made my day.
Fantastic! Love it! Thanks for sharing!
it can not be explained better than this. as our compatriot Gioacchino Rossini would say ... bravo bravissimo eccellentissimo !!!!!!!!
Great lesson, thank you. In my brain it was easier to do the popping triad and octive, then add in the following notes. but it's a great groove, thank you.

I'm sick as a dog but I'm hoping to have the song completed by the end of the week.
Jordan you're the best!
perfect. finally got the right hand part right. thanks. helps to sing the right hand part to get the rhythm and to make sure you catch the last hit in the phrase
Brilliant lesson. Thank you
YOUR A BAD MAN THANK YOU
This is great thank you just wondering is there any pedal use on this please
I don't think so
The E pentatonic scale is: E F# G# B C#. 1-2-3-5-6. Ray's lick uses tones from the E minor blues scale: E G A Bb B natural and D.
amazing!! thanks!! :D
❤❤❤ tx Jordan..loce from Indonesia
That's crazy you make it so easy to play. Thx
Glad you like it! :)
Man this is awesome 🤣 thank you for the lesson!

Coolest. Song. Ever. This one will take me a while but it’s an awesome challenge!

Benjamin Appel YES!!!!!!!!!
Yes!! I would love to see the right hand progression broken down on it's own, the same way as the left was. Thanks!
Thank you.
I am trying and trying but I cannot get past the first part. Is there a way I can learn this song another way, sheet music or something?
That SW tee is SICK!!!
Thank you so much! very easy and so beautiful
Hi Jorden
Do you any more blues tutorials I think I can follow you so well
Having been a classical musician all my life I would just love to play the Blues
You are truly amazing. Thank you so much
Sincerely

That pinky is feelin' it
That shirt is badass!
Thnx teacher
"Watch this slowly" Proceeds to play fast
Glad im not the only one who noticed that lol i just make use of the playback speed
It's because you're following using your eyes not your ears. He tells you what to play, one time on the 1 note, two times 5, one time 7 and one time octave
He also says you have to play the second Inversion. Maybe you're used to playing synthesia too much
Adam Kock - The bass line was clear. It was the right hand which was too quick
JN123654674 I guess it depends, I thought it was clear
Thank you very helpful lesson:)
1:55 do you mean 1-5-5-flat7 instead of 7? That would be E7 chord to my ear
Thank you so much always was trying to figure that out it really is quite simple it's just getting that poly rhythmic brush that is so amazing thanks so much please do more more turnarounds, blues turnarounds, help!
God Bless!
great vid thx
Love me some Ray Charles Robinson....and Pianote!
