This is the best blues tutorial for beginners on piano. Most people use big terms and go way to fast. This channel has figured out how to talk to beginners.
Ha, yup. I have a really intense in-real-life instructor and I just sit at the piano and laugh the whole time - after about 10 lessons he just figured out "he may be assuming too much..." If I happen to get lucky getting something right on the first try, that does not mean I have any clue to what I am really doing at this point, too funny.
@@Hedonkeviik Well, he was a very traditional piano instructor and I'd be lying if I said I didn't use covid separation to end lessons from him and get a more contemporary instructor from Atlanta over Zoom. The first instructor was walking methodically through an Alfred's book. It had its place but the second instructor was more about sound shaping, chords, getting hands independence.
I'm not a piano player. I'm a guitar player who has been playing the Blues for over 40 years. I have a keyboard at home. I can suss out the chords. What's difficult for me is maintaining a solid groove with my left hand while riffing on my right hand. It helps to think of a shuffle as swung 8ths, essentially a triplet feel. This makes right hand triplets fall in place. It's still tricky. Piano is fun! This lesson taught me a lot. Not only about piano, but about what I had been doing on guitar for decades without realizing why. Thanks.
i am 10 and my dad and i love the blues, dub pistles and the freestylers i love your music so much and you guys are the only reason you always put me in a positive mood i play piano i love you guys so much. Amen xxx
I know nothing about music. I know nothing about piano. However this video showed me how those two things feels. This literally shows the composition of music and how much work it requires. It shows too how valuable musicians are and how difficult the whole career is. There are gifted people like Lang Lang and other top musicians showing their talent. Now I know why they are so valuable. THIS IS THE VIDEO that shows everybody how music is build. Videos like this goes throughout the nitty gritty details of music. This is SERVICE. Your channel serves music.
I return to this video from time to time, whenever I need to feel good, because that’s what blues does to a soul. These have been hard times for just about everyone in the world. I especially appreciate this lesson now more than ever. Thanks again for sharing, Jordan, you are a talented musician and teacher. It seems you are no longer with Pianote. I wish you well wherever you are.
Man when you can teach me, you can teach anyone. I love the way you broke it down. You kept it simple and to the point. You are a GREAT TEACHER. All I have to do is practice. Practice make perfect. Lol
These people are great. I've been playing for 33 years and a lot of stuff like this, I had to teach myself because my teachers were horrible back in the day, so all new and learning pianists (I'm still learning today) need to watch this because THIS is the start of where playing piano can be fun!! After teaching myself this about 25 years ago, I can't begin to tell you how many endless jam sessions starting with just this pattern (usually in C or G depending on what key harmonica some of the other musicians had on them at the time.) That being said, I haven't gone down this path in a while and I am gonna bust out a 12 bar pattern tomorrow for my kids and see if they get grooving!
I know a lesson is really good when I can’t wait to put my hand on a keyboard! And that last bit you said about being in smoky rooms is so true. These simple lessons can set off a world of creativity. I remember watching guitar lessons on RUclips before I even had my own guitar. That was 2006 and by 2020, music has taken me all over the world and I’m just getting started. I hope this inspires a generation of blues pianists.
So nice to get a good starting point - fitting the left hand shuffle to the right hand triplets, then get the other stuff later. I have been trying this for about a year, and I can see how this is going to work for me now, especially if I slow it right down. Thanks for posting.
I believe it worth mentioning that all the black keys notes in the right hand are played in C blues scale - just in case someone is wondering why we hit black keys in C
The C Blues scale is widely recognised as being C Eb F Gb G and Bb. That's 3 black notes. Which is not to say you can't utilise all five black notes, but Db and Ab are not in the C Blues scales.
I bought a 32 keyboard recently mainly as a midi controller/sound design tool but I am loving just playing, learning and writing music with it. Having such a wonderful time trying different piano styles! The problem is I need more keys! I followed this tutorial either one handed or stuffed into two adjacent octaves haha. Great video though, can't wait until I can buy a bigger keyboard and I'll certainly come back here when I do.
Thank you so much! I'm new in a band and wanted to learn this. So I took piano lessons figuring I would learn all this stuff. I took lessons for two months and I'm very disappointed. I learned more from you here on this video! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much! I was watching a documentary on Link Wray and Howlin' Wolf and heard that Piano in the background. Wondered how it was played for the Blues. Can't wait to try this out.
Thank you so much. I’m a guitar player kind of fooling around on the piano this helped me so much I’ve been able to figure out so much through this one video. A year ago I tried learning this didn’t play piano since I’ve just been playing lots of guitar so my ear is trained a lot better this was like the best building blocks video for improvising blues on the piano.
Very much appreciate the pace and repetition of your instruction. All it needs now is our guts and persistence to sit down and follow your guidance! Great close by the way because it allows us to hear the original bones you showed us in a fully developed passage. Thanks.
Thank y'all for this channel. I just recently got a keyboard and I've learned so much. Some things have helped me understand more on other instruments (bass and guitar). I greatly appreciate the content! ♡
Nice man.... It sux being a beginner at anything. I've been playing guitar forever and decided to take up the keys to expand my knowledge and repertoire. My left hand is killing me because I am used to holding it the other direction . Making that half torn clockwise is gonna take some getting used to.
Thanks Jordan great tutorial,,Woo the 12 Bar Blue's,, I'm not quite there yet,, but I'm going to give the,, Blue's a run for its money although im striving forward at steady pace classic.
Wow!!! so Happy I discovered you playing the blues here..I have been wanting to learn them forever. FInally, on JULY 4th..INDEPENDENCE DAY..I AM FREE TO BOOGIE ON!!..IN hAWAII, where I live.. no Smoky bars..but lots of Volcanic Fire! Thank you Mr. Pianonote. I have enJOYed playing with you here and in other tutorials. HAPPY jULY 4TH, and Everything else!! Aloha Nui Loa.
Ah, thanks Jordan I'm so, so delighted I'm cracking away on the 12 Bar Blue's I feel like I'm in smokeryyyy Joe's the rift is so cool, got to say if your in County Wexford Eire any time just email and Weal creack a bottle or two,, thanks so much,, I've worked hard on this and it's fab.thank you. Great teacher.
This is incredible to watch. I'm seriously looking at learning piano because I love blues music. I have played the trumpet and drums for years, but I can't play what I want with those. Where should I start? I know the notes and chords musically, but not on the ivories. Buying a weighted keyboard isn't a problem. But I'd like to learn a specific blues style from the get go. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you! I am a keyboard player, but not a piano player. I have not tried something like this and the left hand requires some strength. My left is pretty weak. Thanks for giving such slow, concise and easy instruction. Your pace is perfect.I can probably do something with this over time, but people like Roosevelt Sykes, left hand absolutely mystify me. Some people actually give the impression of two separate brains in their hand coorination. This does, however pretty much cover everything Peetie Wheastraw ever recorded on piano. Probably the first mumble vocalist.
By 1:54 I kept thinking about the classic (Mac N Cheese commercials as a little kid. Getting so lonely being turned into getting so hungry 😫😂😫😂 I could 😭 cry...lol)

@@triple_tubers3314 You hit the point where muscle memory can override thinking about it, and you just do it. That's where the expression "Thinking is stinking" came from! Trying to add stuff like that is just counterproductive until you get the basics down; but then the fun begins!

Love this video, serious question though. I’m trying to learn my different progressions (especially this one) while still figuring out scales and keys. My question is what scale are you using in the key of C that lets you use the flats? I’m confused because I thought the key of c didn’t have sharps or flats?
