Rudy Gobert has a lower impact on the defense of his team than Wemby but it doesn’t mean that Wemby is better, it just means that the Wolves are a good defensive team even without Gobert and it’s the opposite for Wemby. Let’s say that every player has a defense stat : Wemby has 100 but the 4 other players with him on the floor have 50, the total is 300 so 60 on average, he makes the average gain + 10. If Gobert also has 100 but his team has 80, the total is 420 so 84 on average, he makes the average gain + 4. His impact on his team’s defense isn’t as high as Wemby, but that’s only because his team was already good ! I can't say Wemby at 20 really has that many deficiencies other than his 3pt shooting %. But when he is on the court, the spurs have the highest net defensive rating.
