Hey David, I really liked your videos. Thanks for that. I just bought one radio like yours, and it's coming soon. I would like to know, if is it possible to use the original factory rear camera or I'll must change it ?
I do believe it is possible. There is a system setting where you can toggle between stock and aftermarket camera input for the rear camera. If it doesn't work there a couple wires in the stock wiring harness you can tap over to an RCA jack adapter to plug into the RCA input on the stereo. I think someone showed pictures in an Amazon review highlighting which wire to cut over if you have to; maybe they didn't check system settings first.
@@gerardomendoza8416 I didn't. Unfortunately I needed to use the camera that came with my radio. I preferred to do like that to keep all the cables original because the plugs are different from the radio plugs.
Hey David I'm about to install a backup camera in my 2011 cruze do you think the wire colors are the same? And I think I'll use T-tap connectors what size gage would you say the wires are?
@Sergio Mares yes I did and it worked great I haven't had any issues. I hooked it up to reverse neg which is green with yellow/white line. You can find it by pulling back the side carpet in the trunk.
I take that back it's been forever but the neg goes to the neg wire to the trunk release and the positive to the pos reverse. I have pictures if you wanna see them.
I don't know. I don't recall the after market camera I installed having an inline fuse but it might have one. I couldn't say anything about a car that had a stock camera built in, except that you have to splice a couple wires off the harness to a female RCA jack to connect to the camera input jack but I only know that from reading a review for the stereo on Amazon; the reviewer posted pictures of the wire colors to splice. I would say if the camera was working and now is not... Dead camera, probably.
I'm on the road so can't watch at the moment, but an easy way to find out is with a volt meter. Turn it to the setting for continuity; many will also have a speaker option that will make the meter beep. Test by touching the probes together and it should beep or read 1.0. Then you can back probe a wire with the frame of the car. If it beeps, that's a ground wire.
Hey David I have the same head unit but when I install the camera it says no signal when put on reverse gear. I wonder where did you tapped the red wire (+) in the head unit? thanks
I didn't hook it up to anything. Its a single wire you can optionally use for 12V positive if you wanna source it from something up front, but I only wanted power supplied while in reverse, hence using the reverse lights for 12V and a common ground wire that ran to the trunk release switch.
Thanks I just got mine today and was looking over everything and watch and was wondering where that red wire went to lol I even watch your video twice thanks for that info
Sorry, I don't know that. Check the reviews on amazon, there was another buyer who posted pictures of which wire on the factory harness coordinate to the original factory camera.
Thanks for showing how to run the cable up through/by the head unit. No one else shows that part lol.
Thanks so much bro your a life saver 🎉
Which wire do I attach the camera if i want it to turn on when I engage in reverse?

@@davidsteinlage Fantastic. I'll try to do as you said. Thank you brother.
Did you ever find a solution? My reverse camera doesn't works ND I can't find the setting for it

@@Jameez06 how did you end up doing it? Did your new radio come with the acustum harness?

Did you ever do it I got a kit and wanted to T tap it and see if that works , and if you did where did you tap it

Is it possible to have a blown fuse so that camera don't show image

Hello, can you please clarify which black wire is the ground?

I have a separate video that shows my camera install and wiring. Sorry I don't have a quick link, but check my video history and you'll find it.

Where did you hook the red wire that's up by the radio?
