This tribute was pure comedy. I love Patti I saw her 14 times in concert, but this performamce had me rolling.

I had seen the clips of her forgetting the words, and this is the first time i heard it from the beginning....she was singing in a completely different key until the chorus hit. You could hear the background singer trying to help her get on the right key, but she still keeps singing much higher. They said they told Patti to sing for the tribute 2 days prior...shame on BET for not preparing this properly.
No...I love her...but shame on Patti for taking this on & not being prepared...as a singer I've been in this position & I literally spent every waking moment until the event learning the material...

Even with friends, at home doing karaoke, I won't pick a song I'm not familiar with, it stresses me out! Lol! She obviously underestimated how little she knew the (whole)song , not just the chorus!
This is a little bit worrisome for an absolute professional and show stopping performer. Not an incredibly difficult song either. I sure hope she didn’t feel some kind of obligation. She should be enjoying her life, not being under unnecessary pressure.

I’d say give her some credit bc she agreed to this for her friend and I’m sure she asked for a teleprompter(which was said to have been blocked bc of ppl standing). Way too short of time.

This was suppose to be a tribute from one GREAT TO THE LATE OTHER GREAT….there’s no excuse….PATTI’s been in this business for over 60 years…Tina‘s been gone for 4 weeks now…if you knew you were gonna do this tribute Patti should’ve had at least two weeks to learn the lyrics to the song PERIOD!!!! She shouldn’t have had to read them on the spot from a teleprompter…that’s a set up for failure BET 🤦🏾♂️
WHAT ?? Firstly Patti is known for her lack of preparation. She’s a legend. She should’ve memorized these lyrics. If a hungry up and coming artist had to do this, they would’ve had their part down. My thing with these people coming crazy for Miss Patti, for over 30 years she gave tributes for everyone… and rocked all of them. Her “Ain’t No Way” to Aretha… AMAZING! Her “The House I Live In” to Frank Sinatra… Magnificent, her “I Have Nothing” to Whitney… unbelievable. She killed performance after performance for years. Back in the day you knew not to have Patti do yo song cause you wasn’t getting that boy back the same💀look what she did with Judy Garlands “Over The Rainbow”… the point is she ain’t have the best night here but let’s not try and act like she was known for always forgetting lyrics and not putting on good performances cause RUclips is inundated with incredible Patti Labelle performances. Mostly everyone has to work in some capacity, if we endured the same criticism for our mistakes as she does and as other celebrities do we likely wouldn’t be able to handle it. I had the extreme pleasure of seeing Ms La Belle perform here in Fresno CA at the Saroyan Theatre. It was hands down, thee most moving performance I had EVER witnessed. Every single note came from the heart. She received a standing ovation at the end that went on for what seemed an eternity. She was amazed by the love the people had for her. They showered the stage with flowers and brought her bouquets. She promised to come back…I’m still waiting. An absolutely, blessed artist. I’ve had her sweet potato pies too!! VERY good!

I refuse to be upset with a living legend who is 79 years old because she couldn't remember the words to someone else song... She was probably depending on the teleprompter because it would be difficult for her to remember the words ...and when there was a problem with it she still continued to try. It’s the singer’s responsibility to make that they know their piece performances. Maybe the teleprompter was not doing its job,it is still the singer’s responsibility to make sure that they know their songs. Ms Patti unfortunately has a record of not knowing lyrics to songs which I think is very unprofessional. Yes mistakes are mistakes but having three mistakes must equate to not being prepared. Period!

Time restraints and engineering issues. They can't cut into the time advertisers are paying to air during the broadcast. It's obvious her monitors are out of order and that fall directly on the shoulders of the sound engineer. This all should have been a done deal at sound check earlier in the day so I know Miss Patti was MADT when this was over.
"What's my name? Patti, Patti. Ms. Patti still sounds great regardless of the teleprompter being outside of her reading distance. With all of Ms. Patti's vocal affirmations and vocalizing, she made up for the missed words to the song. It was great that the backup singers finished the song.
Whew…it was underwhelming before she started messing up the lyrics. I hope there are better tributes coming…With better performances and more than one song. This was weak on BETs part and sad on Ms. Patti - wrong choice. You have to know when to say “no.” If they weren’t prepared, they could have just played some of Tina’s performances or something…Showed some old footage her.

They chose a Legend to honor a Legend . Now,as for the song,we know Patti is not simple when it comes to styling. The song chosen is not one for the Range or power that we all know Patti has even at almost 80. They kept it simple as to not butcher the song. It was not meant to be a Patti Show out moment. I think she did great. The song was as close to Tina's Range singing the song. Let people live and rest. None of us know what emotions could've been stirring inside that woman while trying to deliver. Some things are harder than we know as onlookers. Thank You Patti for honoring a fellow sister in song , REST IN POWER TINA TURNER.

They should have asked Patti what Tina song she felt comfortable singing because it's clear that she did not have input on the selection. She was singing sharp , wasn't sure of the melody and of course didn't know the words. She's still a living legend though.

This shows me how much she respected Tina. It was apparent Patti's been such a diva she had to regulate singing out of her comfort zone (R&B and Gospel). Just saying. Tina was an eclectic singer and knew many genres. That's what made her unique.
