I was around 13-14 when we first bought this computer in 2001 or 2002 and man it is nostalgic to see this. I love that blue power light. I played so much Empire Earth and Civilization back in those days. Takes me back.. Thanks for the video!

i had the Sony VAIO RX407 back in 2001-2008 and it was a stellar machine... mine ran WinXP and it never crashed... not once in 7 years... loved that machine but i passed it on to a good mate who was without a PC who used it for awhile... really solid machine!

This was my first computer. I'm buying one and putting modern parts in it, purely for sentimental reasons.

Ive owned a rx 850 and a rx550. Still have the rx 550, except i threw out the motherboard and everything esle on the inside of the pc and use it as a storage box to store stuff in. Pretty good storage box actually cause of thw latch you pull to open it up. Still got all the accessories and cds. Pretty cool pc in general and the design is pretty gnarley (only if it has the sticker, without the sticker it doesnt look as good)

This was one my family's first big purchase computers. It was also the first one that I upgraded parts on. It funny that this thing has more cpu power than my current netbook I have for school which is a 2017 model.

My grandmother owned one of these Sony PCs (i'm sorry, I cannot remember the model number) and we still have the computer to this day. She bought it as one packaged since it came with a matching monitor from CompUSA. I added more RAM and an Ethernet card in it for her to make it more usable for we had extra parts in our house. These machines are really reliable. Sadly, she passed away but we kept the computer because the hard drive has a lot of family history information on it. I do not intend on getting rid of the computer (partly because I like the case design and sentimental reasons) but my plans are to preserve the old drives and rebuild it into a more modern workstation since the original parts are too old for some software.

Retrofit projects sound fun, and I'd love to do that someday, but that would require money and lots of time, neither of which I have a surplus of.

@@jwoolery99 Money is an issue here so I have to buy parts piece by piece but it gives me time to figure out what exactly what I want inside.

@@jwoolery99 Hey there Jordan. Awesome video. Just picked one of these up at my local thrift store. Can't find much info out there on whether this system can handle a total of 1gb (512 on each dimm) of ram. Can it? Dont want to source the extra ram if it cant. Look forward to your response. Thanks.

The PC originally shipped with a 1024×768 TFT LCD monitor. I still have one.

You don’t need to remove the top panel to remove the side panel…. This is why the the metal tab is a pull tab rather than a push tab, because it enables you to hook your finger under and pull it to release the side panel whilst the top panel is still in place. The top panel only needs removing to gain access to the optical drives.
