Thanks for having me on the show. I know there was a bunch of other merchandise the featured Repeater, but it was fun showing off the stuff I've collected so far.
Muskrat and Repeater were two of my late 80's favorite Joe's.
The gun he comes with kinda reminded me of the smart-gun from "ALIENS" when I had the figure.
That was my first thought too.
It was the closest we had at the time. Heck even using the term "steadi-cam" is implying Aliens Smart Gun given they use the steadi-cam mount in the movie. It wasn't until Iron Grenadier v8 that we got a looks like a real Smart Gun weapon only it didn't have a mount. But damn you look at it, and it screams I am the smart gun you craved!
I forgot where I read it but it was inspired by the smart gun and Dodger from battle force 2000 was inspired by the colonial marines uniform
As soon as I saw Repeater on the rack I snatched him up!
He'll yeah me too. I saw Aliens way too young, but fell in love with the steadi-cam\smart machine gun concept. Repeater was my only chance to get a taste of that glory.lol
Love Repeater. He was my space Marine stand in. Repeater and Hit and Run kept me going with GI Joe. I didn’t care about the crazy colors or whacky ideas for characters.
Hoodie hates the futuristic, space stuff, and yet he owns them. Go figure.
1988 actually had a number of realistic designs (Hit and Run, Muskrat, Reapeater, Shockwave, Storm Shadow v2, Ghostrider and arguably Spearhead) In general, I don't think that particular era of GI Joe gets enough credit today as it was sandwiched between the two eras of GI Joe's presence in other media.
1988 also gave us Destro v2, which while maybe not as realistic is one of the prettiest figures they ever released. It's weird that the same year that gave us all those figures also gave us stuff like Hardball and the bright purples and yellows that came to dominate the line later.
Even though I tend to hate the sports themed Joes, I honestly kind of like Hardball. The baseball theme is goofy, but at least it makes a certain amount of sense for his specialty and the figure has some great details (I love the sculpted on ammo storage) and great accessories.
I had the first Repeater as a kid and I got the Desert Fox for Christmas '88! Wow! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
The desert themed Joe's were really popular with my friends and I. Living in Az, we had plenty of dirt to go on desert missions in.
Excellent figure and excellent review. I distinctly remember passing on this figure as a child in favour of more colourful figures. Different strokes, ey?
Very nicely done Hoodie!
The ALIENS Colonial Marines guide book does show how the smart gun can be fired from a prone position. It basically involved the user laying on their back and firing it from their belly. Perhaps that is how Repeater could fire his gun from the prone position.
Great job HCC, you covered one of my favorites. Kind of wish he made a few more appearances in the comics to flesh him out a little more and give him the kind of status like Rock N Roll or Chuckles.
I thought Doc wore Khakis. Not a desert specific uniform.
Great review again. And I, like you, have an special place for figures like Repeater.
Thanks to this video I bought myself a repeater action figure.
Repeater was my favourite Joe. I remember my friend was able to get the send away toy with his info and I was jealous. He said, to pick my favourite joe and make that one "me". Repeater was my choice!
Repeater's weapon actually reminds me a little of the Mk19 40mm automatic grenade launcher. The barrel is a little too narrow to actually be a 40mm, weapon but consider the shorter length of the barrel.
The gun itself might not be workable, but the concept is definitely practical, because the Smartguns in Aliens were adapted from real life WWII MG-42 machineguns., and as the film shows they were fully functional. Repeater's gun's ammo storage is also probably based on the Smartgun, because as far as I can tell from watching the movie the ammo storage was built into the system rather than being a dangling belt.
This is one of my favorite character and toy back in the 80s - thank you for reviewing this figure.
Props to Vazquez & Drake. RIP
For me Repeater was like a turning point. Before owning this figure I was more interested on slightly futuristic and ninja characters, but Repeater made me more interested on realistic characters. I even created my own "unit" joining the more realistic joes I owned XD
My son had both versions of him and there were a couple of extra backpacks of his in the huge box of Joes I bought at a yard sale.
The Steadi-Cam rig does help slightly with the suspension of disbelief firing a .50 cal handheld. Then again, two years later the same line would be going, “Hey, think this guy will want a tripod for this missile launcher the size of a Volkswagen?” “Naah, he can just shoulder it.” 🤣🤣🤣
I found a series of very good accessories which included ammunition belts which fit very well on most GI Joe machine guns, they were from knock off figures but the stuff looked quite good. It was very cheap too. I used one of them for my Repeater.
Definitely a Top tier figure!! Fantastic figure! I don't mind the digital camouflage at all. It looks cool. He poses great with the gun. Really, top of the line.
Man, that classic Dusty figure you showed looks AWESOME!
Good to get back to the 80s. Those 90s figures look like a spilled skittles bag.
Great review!! I love Repeater! Had him as a kid and he was easily one of my favorites. I agree that GI Joe was at its best when the futuristic sci fi stuff was presented as a realistic military unit. For instance, the HAL, JUMP, Skyhawk, SLAM & LAW, were molded in the same army green as the other contemporary vehicles. Even the Battleforce 2000 figures weren't too bad as most had somewhat realistic looking camo patterns.
This was my first Joe ever!
I always liked Repeater. Solid figure.
One of the few I owned long after the line ended.
Great job with this video. Repeater is one of my favorite Joes. You just earned yourself a new subscriber. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for reviewing repeater he's the Joe I cosplay but I did with the knife Force version of it and thanks again
another great review. you keep getting better at this!
This is a great fig!! Still missing from my collection now, but was 1 of faves back them. 1 of the few from '88 that still felt like gi joe!! YO⭐JOE!!!
Another awesome video thanx Hoodie Coco
Repeater played a very important role in my play in the late 90s. Despite being in high school, I still enjoyed and played with my GI Joe. I conceived a scenario where COBRA has been mostly wiped out. Most of it's top leaders were imprisoned or dead but Cobra Commander wasn't. A fake CC was, but not the real one. He was working to rebuild his connections and get COBRA back up. He teamed up with newer 90s leaders.. Cesspool, Headman, M. Bison (yeah I know... I brought the Street Fighters into the fold). Poor Repeater was one leading a team of raw GI Joe recruits in a training exercise when they were ambushed, the recruits all died and Repeater was captured. In a ceremony to fully revive COBRA, Repeater was tortured and sacrificed, his burned, scared and beaten corpse returned to the PITT signaling to the Joes that COBRA was back. Yes... I cut him. Yes... I burned him. I regret it now, but someone had to die and by that point I had lost his machine gun and rig so....
I found this figure at a yard sale for $1. Now I know what that loop on his belt is for.
A great figure and awesome review HCC
I'm guessing he's got the one glove on his left hand because it's for him to have a better grip to hold the side grip on his cool Steadicam Machine Gun.
Machine gun is red hot because the fire.. The glove is necessary
I had the version one repeater and I would always play with him and version 2 of Storm Shadow. These two figures plus shipwreck were definitely my favorites I also in fourth place was partial to lowlight. Yo Joe!
“Close to 20 years in the Army” and only an E6? Sounds like a slacker to me. Also, good luck getting a staff sergeant to carry a heavy machine gun.
Loved this figure as a kid.
Nice review!!! The modern era version of this figure was a figure released by the GIJoe club as part of figure subscription service wave 3. It is an awesome figure!!! It was voted as the best FSS figure in a series of polls on Hisstank.com.
Grear review great review im glad i have this figure in my collection
Great video.
You forgot Prditor as Jessi the Body Ventura's character "Blain" also carried a side mounted mini M134. Which is so rediculouse in a jungle setting
Loved the potential of his grizzled old vet character!
well I was sixteen by this time so i didn't have this guy but i sure wish they'd made him several years earlier / =
Repeater was definitely a favorite of mine
Such a great figure
I've been hoping you'd do this figure.
Walking tall machine gun man
James cameron invented the concept of steady cam gun since terminator.. Check themovie in the reese dreams part
Ddnt have Repeater when I was a kid, I do now though and now as in then I thought he was a great character/Figure
Are there any ammo belts available with other figures, vehicles, or playsets that will fit that slot?
Wow never had that dude but had his weapons lol
I've wondered if he was named after the Fugazi album...
The Army is now testing steady cam type accessory
His face reminds me of the sidekick character from the Starship Troopers movie.
His face reminds me of John Cena, which is weird.
Now show us Repeater's gun with Dodger holding it.
Oh, wait you better not. Don't want Aliens to ding you on copyright infringement. ;-)
My friend has this. Sadly the figure couldn’t be fixed easy and is very floppy with the fix I did do ( the screw was stripped when I was handed it or it’s a star bit )
HCC788, when's your next unboxing video?
Caps kinda outta regs, but hell its gi joe everything is outta regs
Looks like the guns in aliens movie.
11:05
Do Rampart!
If his gun is a electro magnetic machine gun then it would be a similar concept to a rail gun correct?
You forgot to say what tier you put him in!
I just wish he didn’t have digital Camo. I just wish he didn’t have digital Camo.
I agree. I agree.
His Night Force colors aren't bad.
Sub zeros ammo belt fits in machinegun... Try it
I very much doubt future troops will look like that. As time goes on they'll more than likely be wearing full body armour, much like the marines in Aliens, only with much more integrated technology. They'll also have visors with built in HUDs like Iron Man, as well as having air conditioning units to allow them to survive in extreme climates, and powered exo-frames to give them more strength in the field.

Funny how the filecard claims he's been in the army for a long time but Repeater in the comics is shown in the training if repater really had all that time in the military as the filecard states I don't think he would need all that training from issue 82 of the comics.
That was more of a selection phase than actual training. Doesn't matter how much time you have in, you can't skip over selection if you want to go Spec Ops or join the Joe team.
@@robonintendo Thanks.
Never clicked on a video so fast.
Top tier?
Does this guy look like Ron Perlman to anyone else?
Inspired by Aliens?
Vasquez and Drake called from aliens they want there smart guns back, I do think the lower black drun in the ammo
Never heard of or seen him back in the day.
Repeater is a great figure and in Night Force too. The reason the missiles on the Desert Fox were that color was so they wouldn't be confused with real missiles. You wouldn't want a child to get shot whilst trying to rob a bank with those.
How does Repeater look futuristic... What. Theres plenty of other shit that looks futuristic. These guys trying to be funny is unbearable.
Sad sad planet this is.
