- Hardest Crash Bandicoot level ever!
Sunset Vista and Slippery Climb are often considered the hardest levels in Crash Bandicoot, but they are nothing compared to the unused level Stormy Ascent. When I played that level a few years ago, I thought I would never play a harder level, but that changed yesterday. This version of Sunset Vista is without a doubt the hardest Crash Bandicoot level I've ever played.
There are so many differences here, it's like playing a whole different level. The first half isn't that different in design, but the moving blocks and bats are faster, so it's more difficult than it usually is. The second climb adds some difficulty as well with faster and more tricky platforms. Most of the third floor is also unchanged in design, but the moving block patterns are completely different and much harder than they usually are. Oh, and let's add some bats to some of the hardest parts to spice things up a little.
When you reach the top, the shit really starts hitting the fan. Normally, the top floor is rather short and easy, but now it's extended and the game decides to throw some of the hardest shit ever at you. The parts with the moving torches are pure evil, but yet so beautiful and brilliant. It's a shame they were cut from the final version, but if the whole of Stormy Ascent was deemed to hard, this clearly had to go as well. In addition to the major differences, there's the usual box and enemy stuff. Of course, there are far less checkpoints and masks in this version.
In case you haven't already figured it out, this level is hard. However, the difficulty is not all due to the level design. There are some flaws and glitches here. The platform at 2:23 is not as long as it looks, which is why I move closer to the wall before I approach it. It's also not as wide as in the final version, so that jump is very hard to do right. There's a similar problem with the platform at 1:39, but there's no gap beneath it, so it's nothing to worry about. The bats at 3:28 are too fast, so you can just barely make it, but if you do, the next group will simply disappear.
I wanted to master this level before I recorded it, so I divided it into three parts and played these over and over again until I had everything memorized and knew exactly what to do in all the tricky spots. Then I started recording and after somewhere between 10 and 20 attempts, I nailed it. A few of these ended pretty close to the finish, which did not exactly make me happy. To add to the difficulty, I was also very tired when I did this and I was only a few attempts away from calling it a day when I finally completed it.
And that's pretty much all there is to say about my 900th video. Игры
Man, those natives REALLY didn't want anyone trespassing in their village.
For Crash 1 it feels like Naughty Dog was like "Do we get to create a mascot? Finally!" and unloaded years of platforming ideas into a single game. It's crazy how creative these levels are.
Sunset Vista 2: The Vistaning.
1:04 The eyes of Crash XD
My brain would've exploded if I tried this level as a 6 year old XD
Arthur Mccalla 😂😂
If you think this is bad you should look up the unused level Stormy ascent.
Night Terror 👍
i played this when i was 7 years old.
Still easier than the last level for the first island lol
Wow. And I thought the final version of Sunset Vista was hard. This version is pure hell. There's no way I would ever be able to do that.
This level was very long
Wait, not only did they make it harder, they put it EARLIER!? Are you sure this is the Prototype Version and not the Troll Version?
Prototype Sunset Vista is hard but I think Stormy Ascent is still harder
Man, FUCK Sunset Vista. I'd rather go through ten Slippery Climbs than that shit.
So the longest level on crash was even longer on its prototype version? Damn
I love the music from this level
kek
Isnt music is the prototype yeti music is the all videogame Crash Bandicoot
Up till 4:30 things were not too bad...
Everything after that though, damn.
I always liked the backgruond for this level!
The final stage of this level is so evil and yet...so...BEAUTIFUL :')
Although just how the fuck did those ancients exactly make it through all this shit? You can't possibly be telling me that those priests were all Olympic athletes.
Sunset Vista could be the longest level of the entire trilogyb
Oh man and we thought that these levels were difficult. After Crash 4 they are a stroll in the park.
BRUTAL PLATFORMING!
I am impressed. Also if this shit had been in CB1 when I was a kid I would have NEVER finished that game 100%.
I really hope the Lost Treasures DLC for the N Sane Trilogy includes this version of Sunset Vista, alongside Stormy Ascent
4:07 for you lazybone the game starts to change at this time
Wow that description is iconic, this is technically not an official level, so its not canonically the hardest level. But neither was stormy ascent, and thats in the remake now. Still it’s crazy to see this one flew under the radar
Garland I'm glad to see there's someone like you who puts so much effort and spends so much time in videogames.. You're a legend to me cause you do what I dreamed to do as a child :) you bring me back to those times! I hope you'll keep posting videos.. Oh and btw sick level!
I'm so glad that those fire platforms weren't in the final game. D: Just imagine!
It is definitely harder, but not much so than the original Sunset Vista. Still probably will take one hour of trying to get it complete, though
i still fucking love this game.
Imagine if Activision remade this version of the level as an added bonus for N. Sane Trilogy.
I'd prefer to see them remaster Sunset Vista like this level
They are. Leaked photos of two "DLC" trophies show that this version and Stormy Ascent are coming Day 1 DLC.
XTheVideoGamerGirlX Yea I just saw. So far it's just speculation for this prototype
XTheVideoGamerGirlX One of the trophies is for the Stormy Ascent relic while the other is for the box gem. Unfortunately, Stormy Ascent looks to be the only DLC level.
Congratulations on video number 900 and I am very excited for video number 1000!
this is so impressive, very well done!
I had to open the stage music in another tab, it's not the same without it
@BigKlingy Have you seen Garland's videos concerning the first island of the game? Ripper Roo and Up The Creek were supposed to be in the first island. When the game got decontented and simplified (in difficulty), they moved the levels to the second island. It looks as if this level came earlier in the game, except it's not so.
4:57 onwards is just insane.
I think I speak for everyone when I say I'm glad you're making video's again Garland.
The lack of music really gives this level a mood
Hmmm, Stormy Ascent definitely looks harder, but of course without playing it I won't know.
Well, Now you can...
I know I’m two years late who cares!
That. Was. Awesome!
@Taylor255 Thanks! And yes, they are bats. No idea where I got birds from.
@TimeBreaker1987 I always thought Slippery Climb was much harder than Sunset Vista. Especially on a regular playthrough, since SV har plenty of checkpoints, while SC only has one. As for gem runs, SV is clearly longer, but SC has got some really nasty stuff towards the end, so it's definitely the hardest level for me.
Now I'm really curious about Stormy Ascent in this version.
If this prototype level would have appear in the n sane trilogy as a second DLC, It would be called "Ancient Temple Gateway" or "Death Tower Bobby trap"
Or sunset Vista 2
if this was the actual version i dont think 99 percent of people could come even close to this gem. and i thought fumbling in the dark was difficult. THIS IS HELL
Im glad they changed this in the end, this was one of my favourite levels.
Holy shit, this version of sunset vista is really something.
The idea of this being in the nsanity trilogy scares me i shudder to think of relic times
the third floor is far more horrible than the final release, so crazy that it looks like some sort of fan-made hack
those rotating torches together with that ''halved see-saw'' freak me out!
Yes, I have seen them, but I'm positive Road to Ruin came before Sunset Vista in the final game. Sunset Vista was located at the end of the 2nd island, just before Koala Kong. Though it's been ages since I played this game, so I could be wrong.
The rotating fire platforms, what the hell!!!!
This level is a madness
uncontrolable fits of rage (Check)
About to rip out hair line (Check)
Wants to kill himself (Check)
Bringing Rage on the comment ( HELL FUCKING YEAH check)
What made Sunset Vista appear hardest when I played, was thanks to the truly boring design. Slippery Climb at least was fun and beautiful.
Srs? I loved the Sunset Vista/Lost City design. The dark still waters at the bottom, the scorching pink sunset, the sunburnt forests and temple ruins in the background. IMO it's visually beautiful. Slippery Climb was just a drab castle wall...
Wow! That level looks extremely difficult! Did you spend a while practicing it?
Between 10 or 20 attempts it took him.
this looks so genius
you are my hero
wow, nice job clearing that mang
Naughty Dog were doing ROM hack levels long before ROM hacks were a thing!
Between 0:00 and 1:30 there are 3 changes:
0:47 That predator thingy
0:51 That spiked turtle
and 1:25 A checkpoint.
Or was it in the real version too?
I don't think so.
If there ever is a Crash Maker, I can see Garland remaking this level...
Future DLC for N Sane Trilogy? Sunset Vista: Hard Mode.
@BigKlingy Road To Ruin did not come before Sunset Vista, since that level did not appear until the second game :P
Clearly you mean Road To Nowhere, which I've still yet to see in this prototype and I've finished the second island. In the finished game, it came between Temple Ruins and Boulder Dash. The next level in the prototype is Jaws Of Darkness and then there's Koala Kong.
I only played Warped. Jesus fuck this looks hard...
Congrats on 900 videos!
And aren't those birds actually bats?
Almost impossible for others even having 9 lives xD
I played stormy ascent, got what i think was half way through it and i kept dying at the exact same place
quite possibly the most redonkulous level i have every seen. who knew they had it in them :p. To bad they took it out
Made it look easy.
Have to have guts and timing.
And that's why i hate Sunset vista, this version is almost the same thing for me in the difficulty.
4:53あたりで決定稿のゴール地点
God that looks so difficult
Now why does this make me think of Super Mario Bros 2 Japan? Ah, must just be me...
Quite a grand surprise when I played for my first time, but hey, difficulty is good and makes stuff more interesting. In any case, I think you can make it and actually beat it. Well except for Brio. Just sayin'.
that lvl was the best ever sunset vist
wait, since stormy ascent wasn't used in the released version, the one accessible by gameshark must have been the prototype version anyway. let's hope so D:
Greate stage
@Spikestuff95 just listen Slippery Climb music during a stormy day xD
Which program you use for record the video?
this level is hard, yeah, but without the bats it would be so much easier.
extended version sunset vista
You make it look easy '-'
I didn't find Stormy Ascent in the prototype actually impossible. It's hard, but I didn't spot many differences compared to the normal level.
@Spikestuff95 Are you saying it's harder than this?
I got SC on my 4th try, this took me about 37 tries.
The last part is even worse than Stormy Ascent!
It looked same to me until the checkpoint box
Sunset vista is the longest level but slippery climb has only one checkpoint
Mother of god...
Looks difficult. Why didn't they keep it like this when Sunset Vista is already mega hard?
Does this version has all the levels from the Final?
@GarlandTheGreat So, you don't know which levels are the next... You said after Boulder Dash would be Road to Nowhere instead this infernal level xD
I'm jealous of your profile pic :(
looks cool but they shouldve split the level into two
The part that gets tough is the last bit of the level. The rest doesn't seem like a big challenge.
@GarlandTheGreat stormy ascent is not different in this version thankfuly theres only afuw miner tweaks its not surprising cuz it was removed and just too hard even though ive not played stormy ascent olso how can i get an emulator, crash and gameshark?
5:05 5:42 MY. GOD!
to the title just add .... as of now :)
@CTRPolar or Road to Nowhere is a later level?
Is this the only level thats made harder?
What that... level...
holy shit, this is impossible.
Is there a link to download it?
I am the only one who kinda likes the old graphics better 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
Same here. To me, the PS1 graphics keep it in the nice realm of cartoony-made-3D rather than this weird CGI thing every video game has now.
зря это всё из финальной версии убрали
Lol the backgroun looks like a cardboard cut out.
