Ford, Toyota, Honda, and GM have all announced they are scaling back EV production feel like these tax payer funded factories and retrofits will all be a epic waste of OUR money.
Agree
In this case, it's just a tax break. If they end up pouring billions into the country with nothing to show for it, then taxpayers don't pay a single cent. If they do literally nothing besides handshakes, taxpayers also pay nothing. There are no downsides to this.
Totally agree , EV in its current form is not the answer and may never be . It's great to talk about Evs changing the game , but there is insufficient electrical infrastructure everywhere in Canada
Very true. The government is gambling with our money on these auto manufactures and it’s not going to end well. None of these companies are able to manufacture affordable EVs while generating a profit.
@@John.F_Kennedy There is always a downside to it. How can you say there is no downside when you have not seen the agreement. Companies make these agreements so that they can benefit from it. They have ZERO concern for the taxpayer who provides the funds.
Another corporate welfare blunder ...
waste of money😂
Are you sure about that? Have you run the numbers and consulted economists, local governments, automotive experts, and union leaders? You shouldn't make ridiculous claims with zero evidence.

Anything that the Liberals touch turns into Gold😮
Tax breaks......not subsidies!
BUT no one can afford them?????
Manufacturing them doesn't mean buying them. Plus, I see EVs all the time these days.
Exactly
@@John.F_Kennedy The Tesla rig sucks. 4 hour charge. 26 thousand pound battery. Trash 🗑
@@John.F_KennedyHave you ever looked into where the power that's driving those evs comes from? Mostly coal...well acknowledging making evs is worse for the environment than ice engines.
@@AdolfTrudeau In Canada? Our electricity sources are around 80-85% non-emitting, so solar, wind, nuclear, hydro, etc. In Ontario, it's over 90%.
Oil and gas for me 👍
How much will it cost the tax payers?
About 1500-2000 lb of lithium, nickel,. cobalt, graphite, aluminum and copper per car.
@@jptrainor VW got 10 millions$ so you do the math. waste of money for what it is
All in, it will be a large net gain to tax payers
We will foot the bill for this swindle just like the Windsor plant 0 Canadian workers Are they coming from South Korea as well???
Canadian workers didn't build it, but the plant certainly hired Canadians to work at it.
India. lol
The South Korean workers were brought in to set up equipment, and verify construction is conducive to the installation of the equipment! It's not only a condition of calibration, but also warranty of the equipment!
I'm curious as to WHO YOU thought should have installed proprietary equipment that is ONLY available in South Korea, and by this company??
Did you even look into it, or just listen to the Conservative rage farming?
Honda is not like other companies in Canada. They already make the civic and crv here with Canadian workers
hybrid plug-in production makes the most sense in Canada.....
Yeah, it makes perfect sense to car manufacturers that are too stubborn to build EVs.
@@addict8229too stubborn? There are plenty of problems with EV’s with huge damages paid out and EV’s are not taking off like the government has wanted.
@@user-lb4vf3qg7v Because the Fords, GM's, Chryslers, etc., rushed to market with unproven batteries! You're not seeing near the issues with Tesla, and BYD battery tech!
@@addict8229ford lost 4 billion on EV last year, but ya they’re too stubborn…
@@chrishogan8125 Tesla is having problems too. And had our western leaders not jumped on this bandwagon Tesla would have been developed so much better without racing to keep an unstable market.
It means nothing. Nobody wants to buy an EV.
Jail for vassey
Jail for Trudeau
Honda at every event in the past year has said they are not even designing an EV.
please show me where they have said that...
Making stuff up only makesoneperson look foolish & desperate. You.
Never mind the insane cost of new vehicles, Insurance rates on new vehicles are even more insane, and EVs even worse than that! Until insurance rates become reasonable again, the auto industry is going to suffer significantly.
My EV insurance was less than my old ICE
Instead of propping up the automotive industry, start investing big time in tech - so that Canada starts making something useful, that doesn't require heavy government subsidies every year. Also free up regulation for tech investment.
Well, previous governments created a free trade system that promotes the buying of jobs!?
Government should not be using tax dollars to attempt to pick winners and losers amongst technologies and manufactures.
At one time government did the big things like railroads and seaways that were beyond the scope of corporations but now government wants to build manufacturing plants.
Railways and seaways was also picking winners and losers.
@@johnhart3480 I don't see how please expain?
Electric cars are coal-powered cars.
Oh,...sooooo you blame the EV manufacturer for the lack of foresight that your politicians have....(slow clap)
I hope Honda is successful and stays in Ontario long term making whatever product and employing at least thousands of Ontarians. It may be EV's today, but it could be whatever tomorrow. I hope this factory is gainfully employing Ontarians in the year 5024 and beyond for instance.
How come we can't build our own ev companies in Canada
Who's buying , can't charge it from my tent . F.J.T.
HYDROGEN is the fuel of the future.
Toyota is the one who has figured that out.
I think there is more potential in hydrogen
Hydrogen is impractical to use as fuel source in personal vehicles. There’s virtually no infrastructure to support it in Canada, the cost of Hydrogen is astronomical and it’s inefficient to produce hydrogen that needs to be convert into electricity.
@@addict8229 you don’t need to upgrade the entire country’s electrical grid. They work in the cold, the weigh half as much, hydrogen is the most abundant atom in the galaxy, you can make it from electrolysis of water, they don’t need massive pollution heavy batteries
@@BlueTeamRedTeam tell that to the Toyota Mirai owners in California. 😂🤣😂

Again and again and again the focusses on Central Canada. What is the federal government doing with the rest of Canada?
Great news for Ontario. That means jobs for Ontario residents. Can't help but notice that when the McGinty/Wynne Liberals were in power manufacturers couldn't get out of Ontario fast enough. Now with the Ford Conservatives manufacturing is coming back to Ontario big time.
the Provincial Liberals invested lots of money in Honda Alliston...
We had EV infrastructuere in ON under Wynne, Dummy Ford tore it down. This new is another Federal win, LazyBoy Ford is just along for the ride
Honda has nothing to lose, because its ALL our tax money on the line.
Can't wait to drive the VW Boondoggle and Honda Fiasco models! And we cant forget the Chrysler Boatanchor.
Build simple no computers cheep starter cars micro trucks.
High priced luxury models is the only way that manufacturers make money on them today.
What we want is autos from USA with out all the Canada taxes. Autos are dead at their present price points. They are a joke
build a product no one wants I'm sure the goverment will give them millions
Billions *
It will mean we own a pipeline that we don’t use and a plant making electric cars with no way to charge them
Looks like we are going to elect Ms Freeland for next PM of Canada, JT and LP just bought Alliston, next stop will be Toyota in Cambridge and Woodstock, lots of votes there!😂

Why pay money for companies to make EVs. Where is the graphite and lithium coming from for these EVs?
do you think hydrogen is made from water? LMAO
Nothing EVs are obsolete
ICE are done - EV is the present and the future. Once you go EV, you never want that old smelly slow and boring ICE tech any more.
How much money did the Canadian tax payers give Honda?
$60 billions for oil corporation 👈 😑👎🏻
Trudeau doesn't want to build roads anymore lmao fk you need ev cars for
EVs need to be cheaper than ICE vehicles if they are goimg to meet the targets. Under $30,000, very low charging costs. And a range of OVER 500km. That should be the baseline to get the industry booming. No one wants to may $100k+ for a poorly built car that doesnt get them places as fast or as reliably as a normal ICE car.
ZEV could be hydrogen but the government is putting all their eggs in the EV basket and no one wants them
10 yr cost of ownership and an EV on the market today will beat the same class of ICE car hands down. My overnight charging on Ontario is pennies, I look for excuses to drive and take road trips. 500km range is here, today. Hydrogen is a joke, ask California how that's working out.
@StephenWeppler they cost about the same when you look at the cost of the vehicles and then factor in the cost of Gas, oil, tires. Which is crazy considering the amount of money the government has invested in the industry. Plus now look at the interest rates. If I needed a micro car to grab groceries or commute, a 4 door hatchback is $17k new, or a chevy bolt is $41k. Even at today's super high gas rates they come out the same.
Look at what happened in NB like 20 years ago. Electricity was cheap so everyone switch to base board heating and removed all their furnaces. Then the Electricity prices went up.
If Ontario have to build 4 more hydro dams and 6 nuclear stations by 2035 for EVs I would guarantee you're $100k tesla won't close "pennies" to charge
@@stevenjohn1470 fully loaded civic is over 40k in Canada, same price as a new Bolt. Great deals in used EV's right now, rebate available on used too.
@StephenWeppler I'm not against EVs but they really need to drop the price and I believe EVs dont have the scalability yet either. If a person uses a truck for something other than going to hockey practice EVs aren't the answer. Edison motors is the closest with its PHEV truck
@@stevenjohn1470 Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV will do anything any other truck will do, even the Lightning is fine for most, most trades guys aren't driving far to their work sites, the truck can get them there, power the work site all day long without a generator and get them back home no problem.
EVs aren't viable in an open market.
