Watching them throw so much money at EV plants seems like such a waste when we have a massive natural resources that can’t get anything done.
Pushing further record fossil fuel expansion - the cause of the climate crisis - is completely unsustainable, totally incompatible with meeting climate targets - and totally irresponsible & reckless. The climate crisis is increasing costs and causing hardship for Canadians.
@garyhaggquist740 It's like when fossil fuel caused the 1930's drought that lasted almost 10 years. If only we had a carbon tax back then we could have avoided it.
@@garyhaggquist740 way to go regurgitating Liberal talking points there!
@@garyhaggquist740lol yea none of that is true. To bad
Might as well flush that money down the drain. The pollution of those EVs will lead to a new tax. We would be better going back to horses and buggy.
5 years plant will be shutting down
Your optimistic. I doubt it will ever get built. But the money will change hands.
Honda has nothing to lose. Its ALL our tax money on the line.
There is no tax money on any line.
How much will it cost Ontario tax payers ❓ 😑
More gold plated corporate welfare
I hope this is a better deal than the VW plant
@@stevenjohn1470oh yes it will be but for share holders and government politicians 😉👍 tax payers get to pay for it.👍
Billions
@@QLHOOQ Everything + what we do not have yet 😑
Waiting for the cancellation announcement
The taxpayer has enough problems surviving without subsidizing any company’s
Funny one, the only folks hurting are those who don't pay any taxes.
The center lower panelist is completely off the mark. Alberta has always been resource based. Ontario has always been manufacturering based.
Ev isn’t new 100 years old didn’t work then won’t work now
EVs were top sellers.
The didn't work then?
@@Wilem35 buyers preferred the ICE Oldsmobile.
Money for Honda. They sure need it 😂. Anyone look at where EV sales are heading lately?
@splatmacpuffin I have and Ford is stopping production with their EV truck plant
They are clueless. It is like they have never heard of Canada before. Swing the Hammer, EV’s for all.
Yea Tesla stocks down and investors and unloading.
If a company cannot make money the will walk away. Attached strings do not mean anything. Car companies have closed down plants before after getting all kinds of tax benefits etc:
You dont' get tax benefits until you earn a profit.
@@Wilem35 So they make a profit and take the tax benefits ( This means that they do not pay any taxes on the profit ) When the tax benefits run out and they are no longer making a profit they close the plant down.
@@theowoytowich9959 Wrong again.
EV's are dead. What a waste of our money!
Is this Honda investing in Ontario, or Ontario investing in Honda? How many billions will this cost taxpayers and how long until Ontario gets that money back (if at all)?
You should get your facts straight. Alberta has more wind and solar per capita than any other province in Canada. $Billons have been/ are being invested with limited government involvement.
Just bought another v8
I’ll never buy an EV
What ideology did Ford have to agree with for this to go through. There are always strings attached with any deal with Trudeau .
There will never be a net-zero economy. The fact Canadian tax payers are paying to attract business is not exactly "open market" capitalism, is it?
Honda is a MUCH better investment than Stellantis (overpriced junk) and VW (just a Dream) Both of these Co are cutting back Production of EV's
This is silly, let the market decide? EV's are not as great as they appear. Range, price and other market factors don't add up. However, the gov't doesn't care, using the stick instead of the carrot. sigh....
We've already paid for two useless battery plants!
Danielle Smith has opposed low carbon? She has been announcing lower carbon projects in the province for a year now. Just because she opposes unreliable wind and solar doesnt mean she is against low carbon products.
Totally agree
@@theowoytowich9959 well said
You have no business using taxpayer money for this If this venture is reliable then they don’t need taxpayer money
Gas and Oil for me 🇨🇦
The women from Alberta (Shakur) speaks for about .0001% of Alberta’s. Her Alberta card is revoked. She traded it for her liberal party card
Ya. Another guy, Shakir Chambers, seems to know Alberta better, and he mentioned hydrogen.
At least Honda is already making vehicles here and not just setting up here to use tax payer money to make batteries for America
... now, about that lacking charging infrastructure all across North America 😂
I thought Honda was not so big on EV’s? Why don’t we have a Canadian made one.
I know that they recently cancelled their battery joint venture with GM.
Ontario isn't in Canada?
Canada has become very uncompetive through regulation and high costs and benefits. The only way to attract industry is through huge subsidies which we saw with Michelin and the Volkswagen battery plant. Now we are seeing ev sales collapse as dealer's lots are overflowing with them. Maybe we could tie in the subsidies with halil loans on ev purchases. Just a thought.
I’m really not sure why Sabrina lives in Alberta - she truly does hate it. Never have I heard a single positive thought from her. Perhaps add a liberal guest who is knowledgeable and can see both sides as the others do. Each and every time she speaks it’s an Alberta bash.
80% of these batteries are graphite. Where are the raw materials coming from? Quebec has a lot of graphite. So does south Africa. Hopefully any lithium battery made in canada uses canadian graphite
Wow a bunch of consultants! Unreal vassy
Hopefully the are future proofing this factories for alternative use.
Stop giving public money to private companies.
If companies want to invest in canadian market let them come using their money. Giving money is basically taking off the risks for them.
Unfortunately, every country, state or province, needs and wants these jobs, and they all throw money and ridiculous tax incentives at these companies to locate in their jurisdiction.
Hum EV will be costly. No one will afford it, in my opinion, honestly, especially Canadians will always burden the cost by taxation definitely 100%!!!🤷🤷🤷

“Canada, where the Batteries are Made”
Doug needs to go.

Nope, I remember the last liberal catastrophe. Not ready to vote for that nonsense again. Them clowns want to introduce a rain tax. No thanks!
EV like Heap Pump the do not work in Canadians winter.
NO EV vehicle for me.. its not justifiable.
not green friendly.
@@Zebra_3 EV's ain't green friendly. Anyone who thinks they are is lacking in functioning brain cells.
If we are to have 100% EVs can anyone explain where the $$ for roadway repairs come from as an EV hits a spring pothole and does battery damage? Not taking in consideration the excess weight of EVs . There probably needs to be a $$ surcharge similar to recycling charges on electronic and vehicle AC upon purchases
NO UNIONS!!!!!! THERE IS ZERO BUISNESS CASE FOR A MANUFACTURE TO COME TO CANADA FOR UNIONIZED workforce
To the best of my knowledge Honda is not unionized.
@@tertur2957 hopefully it stays that way
Coming from a company who's EVs are rebadged crappy GMs....This is a win for Honda in Alliston.... More plants will be built and at the end of the day they will turn out to be regular car plants and not for EVs - EV demand will continue to decline
Governments unchecked. Subsidize production to subsidize consumption add regulations to be sure and to what end?
End the subsidies, let the market prevail and invest scarce tax dollars where it matters like our badly falling social and physical infrastructure.
Hard to argue against? Corporate welfare, no one wins.
Ev’s are expensive to make and most of the vehicles aren’t recyclable, limited range and costly to run even more costly to maintain, this will be a huge loss for Ontario being that the federal government is involved it’s going to cost more then anyone can imagine
It's hard to believe that there's a Tesla Model S out there with over 1.21 million miles (1.96 million kilometers) on its odometer, but indeed there is. And here it is.
The car, a 2014 Model S P85, has racked up 1.2 million miles so far, which works out to approximately 131,000 miles per year. Could you imagine driving that much? And doing so in an electric car, which naysayers often state can't go the distance. Well, we think this car proves that EVs can be driven a significant amount of miles per year and that the charging infrastructure, at least in some parts of the world, can support high-mileage drives.
Par for the course considering how much the feds are hyper focusing on this tech, it'll be a shitshow if they CAN"T get investment like this. This is a win only in that a lot of sectors are going to show L's because of lack of support/stimulus.
DANIEL MILLER IS WEEPING.
Sabrina Grover…. No Liberal / anti conservative bias and bitterness here folks!
@7:00 “what is the Canada we want “…. One without Trudeau and the Gang
Hi, umm, yeah, nobody wants these stupid EVs!
5 billion taxpayer dollars to create 1000 jobs, that's 5 million per job time to take control of tax dollars out of the governments hands, make them request funding from a taxpayers association.
Honda made $58.9 billions profit last year why Honda need $5 billion Canadians tax payers money. Two years later Honda shut down the plant and walk away $5 billion Canadians tax payers money. Thanks Justin.
Lmao ev 🗑
Lng only investment please
Thanks Canada
The Liberals and NDP always whining about corporate welfare and oil and gas subsidies, isn't this exactly the same? So this is a business case for EV's which demand is declining but their is no business case for exporting our LNG?
Say NO to lithum!!! Way worse for the environment!
EVS won’t survive without my money stop this nonsense
Anything is better than Tesla
Shakier where do you get your info on Danielle Smith, get your fckn story straight
over all this could be great as Honda won't be selling gas cars for that many more years. Transitioning to Electric will give Ontarians a chance for future employment. The risky part is EV vehicles are a hard nut to crack for Legacy auto manufactures. Ones that have jumped in have jumped back out and slowed production due to inferior products and huge loss as they couldn't ramp business up enough to be profitable. Last time I looked Honda doesn't have a EV on the market in Canada as of yet. I wish them luck.
Ev will never make it big, cancel the plans now
Jobs; how money jobs?????
