This might be the cruelest level in any game I've ever played.... definitely any platformer. Hell of a challenge though. I'm about 2/3s through so far. When I finish this whole thing, I can die a happy man.
Did the entire Palace and tried to dream nail the guy at the end, assumed there was more so ran around in circles for an hour. I didn't think to hit him 🤦♂️
Thank you! Been stuck on the section at 17:00 for actual hours, thinking about quitting the whole game at 99% (no, not trying the Path Of Pain just now) but that simple little jump-and-monarch-hop over the third bug you used has finally saved my ass. : )
Is it bad that I actually didn’t die that much and enjoyed the white palace? I mean, if you are patient, the patterns can be well noticed and obstacles can be anticipated. Now Path of Pain... That’s a different story. There’s a special place in hell for the bastard who decided to place 2 white guards at the end, aka combat mechanics, when my brain had gone into “platform maniac mode”, and as a reward receive... Spoiler A cutscene of the vessel with the Pale King sitting on a ledge for 5 seconds. That’s it. Fuck that place
Good luck with that, is a lot harder with k/m, I truly recommend to play this section at least with a controller. Also you can try to use the hiveblood charm to take a bit less damage.
Ech, as someone who can't play ANYTHING better with a controller than a keyboard, I beat the whole thing while dying around 5 times in my first run. Didn't even use the hivecharm until the last sections that were a bit too pixel perfect for me.
maybe it's my controller but my controls were, every now and then, not tight at all. i'd let go of a direction and my guy keeps moving, or i press jump and he doesn't jump. it didn't happen all that often, but when it did, my god was it infuriating in an area as punishing as white palace.
Sure the controls are tight, but as with Jason, one thing I have encountered during my playthrough is that every so often it'll refuse to acknowledge a button input. So not just with the white palace, but many other areas as well, I'd often fine myself just running into a pit of spikes despite trying to jump.
In the Switch console, at least, some games have more noticeable input lag while docked than others, and Hollow Knight is a game where it can be enough to really annoy you in moments where you need to be as precise as possible. There was one particular section at White Palace that I only managed to get past by undocking the console and playing it on portable mode, lol.
While I was going through this level I was like "Who came up with this?" "Who thought this was a good idea?" "It was probably Hitler himself..." but I managed to beat it and god this is a good game.
The circular saws are there to assist with the removal of your D so you don't have to rip it off, you can instead cleanly saw it off and send it into orbit.
Theory: I feel like the White Palace might not have been particularly filled with sawblades. Bc this is the dream of the corpse of a guard, I feel this either represents his guarded mind, where he might've been trained to try have a protected mind and this is how he was trained to do so- fill his memories and dreams with protective extreme instruments, or that this is his memory but being dead for so long, he's mixed up maybe a training room and meshed it with his memories of the White Palace. Ir the white King really just didn't want guests so he did this, that works too
When I saw you hadn' been able to do something on the first try I immediately knew that I will struggle so much with this XD Thank you for the vid! It was very helpful
I find it weird how many people had a hard time at the white palace. It certainly wasn't easy, even with bloodhive, but it didn't feel this hard for me. I had a much harder time with hornet and Markov.
There's a nice little skip around 19:18. If you can get on top of that platform with 3 spears and spikes on the side for a sec, then jump, boost and double jump, you can get to that platform just before the big block with the left facing spears. I found that doing this was a lot easier than trying to do the spears-and-saw puzzle to the left (though that might just be me)
One thing I noticed while playing through this hell level, is you can actually dodge a LOT of the blades by just hugging the wall. Example: The vertical section at 18:32. If you just stay on the wall and let yourself slide down, the blade passes you safely.
This game is gorgeous, but it makes you do harm to yourself because of the bosses and platforming. Just bit the bottom of my index finger and ruptured a vein. Fuck this place
I disagree. I like how they did White Palace and Trial of Fools - they separated and turn on max diffuculty on 2 core gameplay variations of any metroidvania - platfroming and fighting. I think it's very clever design.
The true ending is optional. Also fuck your story level bullshit, that would have been anti-climatic as hell. This is a video game, the final portions, especially on the route to a true ending, should be hard as nails otherwise it's not rewarding at all.
Soul Eater , Grubsong and Deep Focus, before starting, you can hit royal retainers to fill the soul bubble ( those who are all around the save location, and later during the platform level one single of them appear everytime you enter his zone even if you killed him just before, I forget about his location). Having soul vessels is highly recommended here. You can also hit Wingmoulds as many time as needed to fully recover your soul. I did it that way because Hiveblood take too much time to recover in my opinion and I was getting mad to wait ! That was a perfect charm combo !
That's a waste of charm notches tho, i would reccomend rather using fragile/unbreakable heart, hiveblood and dream wielder, i know it seems like a useless charm to have in your build but it gives more soul from royal retainers whe dreamnailing them which is better than simply killing them because you can dream nail them multiple times as opposed to killing them once Also with soul eater + soul catcher you have to commit to using 6 notches (i think?) and dream wielder is only one charm notch for the same, if not a better outcome
counter point. The theme is of saw blades is completely gamy and has no thematic tie in. The platforming controls are good but they aren't as precise as required by some of the absolute bull shit in this section.
Everyone is so pissed at this place but I actually kinda liked it lol. It took me a while to do it but idk, I'm a bit of a sadist for platforming. I had an easier time here than I did with Failed Champion anyway, that was a serious roadblock for me. Anyway, the only real thing I would change is to make you automatically have infinite life here and only here so you can ram your face into the saws as many times as you want without having to worry about your hp. Other sadist platforming games like Super Meat Boy and Wings of Vi are great about taking the pressure off of dying so you can fuck up as many times as you want with the only real repercussion being that you are sent back to the start of a platforming segment. Collecting soul from the respawnable things here gets to be tedious when you are on your 10 thousandth try through a tough segment. Hollow Knight has some crazy good platforming mechanics but you shouldn't feel pressured about dying during these segments. Hiveblood Charm and Dash Master are fantastic charms here but you shouldn't really feel the need for them.
I gotta be honest with you here. Seeing as the Failed Champion has like 3 moves that are all easily avoidable, once you have the Shade Cloak, I feel like your experience of the Failed Champion made everything else trivial. Reminds me of my experience with Nosk and his random shit, until I beat him and everything else became trivial.
12:04 there's an easier way to pass this part, and it's by completely skipping a few platforms, for the first jump you can just fall through the gap in the buzzsaws to the lower platform, once you get to the platform at 12:08 just jump over the saws :D
White palace is nice at the beginning, but then you have all those insane platforming sections (specially this one 18:04 to 21:53 is just too long and hard) and I also feel like this area is too long, though, it's really beautiful and finishing it felt really rewarding, I think that it was meant for a final test of your habilities at platforming (you have to use nearly every moving power) but I feel like it's too long, and milimetric hard
That last part before the king with all the blades, spikes and having to jump on the bugs was insane. You did it in two tries and I did it like 500 times.
I saw this video in my recommendations a while ago and was so fascinated by difficulty and music that decided to do it myself no matter what. And now, after many struggles with bosses and hours of gameplay I have just done it!
thank you for showing how to clear this with double jump and such, instead of that f*king pogo on blades which I can never pull off for more than 2 seconds
Thanks a lot, I was about to give up until I saw this video and realized I was really close to the pale king. This is the most difficult level in any game I ever played.
I was trying to find a regular playthrough of this area (I didn't want to struggle so I just didn't play this haha) and this vid was perfect! I appreciate you showing some of the fails too, I definitely would've done many of those mistakes lol
Thank you for posting with all of your deaths, it reminds me of my time doing this challenge. I still can’t believe I made it through this, it was a bear to say the least! I refuse to do the path of pain, as this was enough for me!
Apparently in Hallownest, "white" means "spikes" and "palace" means "buzzsaws". Terrible, terrible decision on part of the game designers to put this abomination of a level into the game. Hey bruh I heard you like slow-paced exploration, beautiful scenery, dark lore and tough bosses... HERE'S SOME PLATFORM HELL FOR NO REASON. Dying 30 times to a boss? A bit infuriating, but fine. Dying 300 times to a level? Fuck this. If I wanted to play Super Meat Boy, I would play Super Meat Boy, not Hollow Knight.

Pale King: Welp! I don't feel like working today!
Hehe this comment make me laugh
🌮 For you :D
Omg, I love the white palace!
Said no one ever
S0RA _ i do
Hey, I liked White Palace.
I crying the whole time while playing the white palace 🙃
I liked it till it introduced the fuckin saw blades
I think this is the most stupid platform section of the entire game
My dad probably thinks I've been watching woodworking videos for the last 4 hours.
Super white boy's palace of ultimate frustration.
That's the name of my band
This ain't the White palace, it's obviously Meatboy's home!
am i the only one who has no idea was meatboy is? gonna search it right now...
11mellor super meat boy! git gud deluxe lel
@@SchelleForelleTV tht its true If u dont play tht game u can pass white Palace pretty much lol
It's looks like "The End", Super Meat boy chapter 6
Super meat boy was much more fun than this sht level.
Thank you so much, I just went through the white palace, it took me hours but if it wasnt for your video I would have never done it, I am no good at poggoing and I needed a walkthrough platforming and this was just perfect. There were times when I thought I should just quit but then I watched your video again and timed my movements according to yours and here I am going to birthplace to get my Ghornet ending, I am almost sure I wont beat the radiance so...
Thabk you again, this was the most helpful video in my whole hollow knight experience 😊
If you hit them with your dream nail (Y) u will get soul, so they are an unlimited supply of souls to refill ur energy
or if you are dumb and didn't know that walk between screens and kill them over and over lol
Or if you realise that dream nailing them is a much more time efficient method. You get one hits worth of soul for killing one. You get one heals worth every time you dream nail.
There is a secret room if you go to the far right before getting the White Fragment that adds to the lore of the game.
oh thank god you said add to the lore. If I had to go back to get an item I would uninstall
But... I already got the fragment, and I always read lore!
D:
iselected care to explain what it meant I didn't get it. I'm genuinely interested
fk i literally said to myself ill hit this dude (king) and take whatever he drops than go on ahead. i screwed up
I'm about halfway through white Palace. My advice is to play it chunks and take a breather whenever you can
At 20:22, use your nail on the area above where you're standing. There is a breakable wall that will let you skip that bullshit spike section!
im 2 years late but thanks man
im 2 years and 2 months late but thanks bro
I GAVE UP EXACTLY AT THAT POINT
why the fuck is this not pinned ffs
*contractor who's in the middle of installing a series of giant saws in the castle to the Pale King*: "So uh, you getting into the lumber mill business?"
I spent an hour and a half doing this thing. This part of the game is a type of torture nobody should experience.
Ok, I am struggling at the early parts of this, and looked this up for help on that. Seeing the full thing? I can't even imagine pulling this off. This place is crazy.
A combination of hive blood charm and your video got me through this horrendous place ... Thank you
This might be the cruelest level in any game I've ever played.... definitely any platformer. Hell of a challenge though. I'm about 2/3s through so far. When I finish this whole thing, I can die a happy man.
Did the entire Palace and tried to dream nail the guy at the end, assumed there was more so ran around in circles for an hour. I didn't think to hit him 🤦♂️
23:10 got me like WHAAA??
Thank you! Been stuck on the section at 17:00 for actual hours, thinking about quitting the whole game at 99% (no, not trying the Path Of Pain just now) but that simple little jump-and-monarch-hop over the third bug you used has finally saved my ass. : )
That was a pain in the ass!
Is it bad that I actually didn’t die that much and enjoyed the white palace?
I mean, if you are patient, the patterns can be well noticed and obstacles can be anticipated.
Now
Path of Pain...
That’s a different story.
There’s a special place in hell for the bastard who decided to place 2 white guards at the end, aka combat mechanics, when my brain had gone into “platform maniac mode”, and as a reward receive...
Spoiler
A cutscene of the vessel with the Pale King sitting on a ledge for 5 seconds. That’s it.
Fuck that place
"This palace needs more sawblades" - the pale king
The white palace can go to hell, this section is infuriating. I'm using keyboard controls, I've heard the controller works better.
Good luck with that, is a lot harder with k/m, I truly recommend to play this section at least with a controller. Also you can try to use the hiveblood charm to take a bit less damage.
Use hiveblood charm, grub charm that gives you soul when you get hit and double healing charm. You can get infinite tries.
I've played to 97% on save file with keyboard.
Stuck on Radiance tho.
Ech, as someone who can't play ANYTHING better with a controller than a keyboard, I beat the whole thing while dying around 5 times in my first run. Didn't even use the hivecharm until the last sections that were a bit too pixel perfect for me.
I finally beat this area and it felt like winning the world cup with no goalkeeper to begin with!
This is me today after finally getting through it about 13 hours ago LOL
finished it today (yeh im late lol) took me about 3 hours o_o
If the controls aren't super tight in this game I would throw my controller out the window right away.
maybe it's my controller but my controls were, every now and then, not tight at all. i'd let go of a direction and my guy keeps moving, or i press jump and he doesn't jump. it didn't happen all that often, but when it did, my god was it infuriating in an area as punishing as white palace.
Controls are not tight at all and that's the issue... Monarch wings activating instead of wall jumping cost me at least 50% of all the hearts lost
This game embodies all time. I cried before I started it, I cried while I was doing it and I cried when I beat it.
God this place looks so different when it’s moving at more than ten frames per second.
This video saved me. Thank you!
Glad I could help you! Remember there is still the path of pain!
You know what it needs this beautiful palace?
saws, spike, death traps and pitfalls
Thank you!!! I really appreciate how you kept it simple and avoided the spike bounces when a simple double jump would work.
If not for the Hiveblood charm, I wouldn't be able to beat this goddamn area.
I feel a bit like cheater but yeah, having Hiveblood charm is a savior. I am NOT playing White Palace without it lmao
I know this is 3 years old but thanks so much for this tutorial now I can get Voidheart and finish the game.
Unfortunately sips wouldn't even load it to get to that, he doesn't play these types of games.
Use hiveblood+deep focus+grubsong you preety much cant die.
And this is the reason why the undead curse I mean scourge of the beast fuck uhhh Infection yes was bestowed upon the kingdom of Hallownest
yeah. Every citizen who wanted an audience with a King, has to do it. No wonder he died alone.
22:17 thanks for that didnt think to actually go under the saws... I hate this level
MrTawnyMan
Same here. I went in between them and the wall. Took me about five minutes from there to find out I had to crystal heart to the other side
I'm sorry, buuuuuuuuuut:
9:30 - fragile floor
20:20 - fragile ceiling
24:36 - secret room downstairs
26:25 - fragile floor again
Theory: I feel like the White Palace might not have been particularly filled with sawblades. Bc this is the dream of the corpse of a guard, I feel this either represents his guarded mind, where he might've been trained to try have a protected mind and this is how he was trained to do so- fill his memories and dreams with protective extreme instruments, or that this is his memory but being dead for so long, he's mixed up maybe a training room and meshed it with his memories of the White Palace.
Ir the white King really just didn't want guests so he did this, that works too
When I saw you hadn' been able to do something on the first try I immediately knew that I will struggle so much with this XD
Thank you for the vid! It was very helpful
I'm crying at 23:15. Oh my god I'm glad it's the last (required) challenge in the White Palace.
i'm crying because i decided to quit when i was there & came to watch this video only to realize it was the only part i had left
I know this place is universally hated, but as a masoch- *super meat boy fan* I loved it...
20:50 is when I finally had to look up this video
I find it weird how many people had a hard time at the white palace. It certainly wasn't easy, even with bloodhive, but it didn't feel this hard for me. I had a much harder time with hornet and Markov.
Same, but you can't really compare combat with platforming
This stage was the reason I was going to quit. This guide saved me
There's a nice little skip around 19:18.
The pale king’s designer was an sadomasochistic bug
Thank you this helped, I beat it but I think I'm still gonna be angry for the rest of my life over this level
This game is gorgeous, but it makes you do harm to yourself because of the bosses and platforming.
Just bit the bottom of my index finger and ruptured a vein. Fuck this place
Should have just been a pure story level, not this Super Meatboy bollocks. A blemish on an otherwise near-flawless gem.
I disagree. I like how they did White Palace and Trial of Fools - they separated and turn on max diffuculty on 2 core gameplay variations of any metroidvania - platfroming and fighting. I think it's very clever design.
Except trial of fools is optional but this is required for the true ending
The true ending is optional.
Also fuck your story level bullshit, that would have been anti-climatic as hell. This is a video game, the final portions, especially on the route to a true ending, should be hard as nails otherwise it's not rewarding at all.
git gud
Would anyone even recall the White Place in the aftermath be it a pure story level?
Soul Eater , Grubsong and Deep Focus, before starting, you can hit royal retainers to fill the soul bubble ( those who are all around the save location, and later during the platform level one single of them appear everytime you enter his zone even if you killed him just before, I forget about his location). Having soul vessels is highly recommended here. You can also hit Wingmoulds as many time as needed to fully recover your soul. I did it that way because Hiveblood take too much time to recover in my opinion and I was getting mad to wait ! That was a perfect charm combo !
Fragile heart really helps, also if you equip soul eater and soul catcher killing the guys that bow to you gives you a lot of soul so you can heal
That's a waste of charm notches tho, i would reccomend rather using fragile/unbreakable heart, hiveblood and dream wielder, i know it seems like a useless charm to have in your build but it gives more soul from royal retainers whe dreamnailing them which is better than simply killing them because you can dream nail them multiple times as opposed to killing them once
Also with soul eater + soul catcher you have to commit to using 6 notches (i think?) and dream wielder is only one charm notch for the same, if not a better outcome
Level Designer: so how many saw blades should we put in your castle pale king?
Pale king: . . . YES!
Unpopular opinion: I thought the white palace was a really fun challenge that tested your platforming skills you've gotten through the whole game
I mean deadass if you have looked into the hidden path of pain section in the white palace it makes the rest of the place seem fun and easy
counter point. The theme is of saw blades is completely gamy and has no thematic tie in. The platforming controls are good but they aren't as precise as required by some of the absolute bull shit in this section.
BBQDuck i am sorry but i dont understand. Controls are as precise as posible and i have problems beating white palace but not because of controls
Jackson G more like Love-hate relationship xD
I'm okay with a challenge, but this went on and on forever. Definitely too long, could have easily been cut in half.
Thanks for this. I really needed the help at the 20:30 mark. I'd have never figured it out.
Thank you so much this guide. It is truly invaluable.
White Palace is probably what Hell looks like
Everyone is so pissed at this place but I actually kinda liked it lol.
Hiveblood Charm and Dash Master are fantastic charms here but you shouldn't really feel the need for them.
yeah that everywhere buzzsaws this place shit it
I gotta be honest with you here. Seeing as the Failed Champion has like 3 moves that are all easily avoidable, once you have the Shade Cloak, I feel like your experience of the Failed Champion made everything else trivial.
Reminds me of my experience with Nosk and his random shit, until I beat him and everything else became trivial.
That's not sadism, that's masochism
12:04 there's an easier way to pass this part, and it's by completely skipping a few platforms, for the first jump you can just fall through the gap in the buzzsaws to the lower platform, once you get to the platform at 12:08 just jump over the saws :D
Imagine the white palace but it's a lumafly lantern level
NOPE
Thanks, Satan.
Calm down there Satan
Am I the only one who had a lot of fun with this level? It was one of my favorite levels in the game, it was difficult but it was a lot of fun for me
White palace is nice at the beginning, but then you have all those insane platforming sections (specially this one 18:04 to 21:53 is just too long and hard) and I also feel like this area is too long, though, it's really beautiful and finishing it felt really rewarding, I think that it was meant for a final test of your habilities at platforming (you have to use nearly every moving power) but I feel like it's too long, and milimetric hard
That last part before the king with all the blades, spikes and having to jump on the bugs was insane. You did it in two tries and I did it like 500 times.
5:15 LOL the biggest "Nope" of all time
I saw this video in my recommendations a while ago and was so fascinated by difficulty and music that decided to do it myself no matter what. And now, after many struggles with bosses and hours of gameplay I have just done it!
Congratulations dude.
@@PCIndieMasterRace Thanks!
thank you for showing how to clear this with double jump and such, instead of that f*king pogo on blades which I can never pull off for more than 2 seconds
Thanks a lot, I was about to give up until I saw this video and realized I was really close to the pale king. This is the most difficult level in any game I ever played.
Some of the most challenging and overall best platforming I've ever played.
I was trying to find a regular playthrough of this area (I didn't want to struggle so I just didn't play this haha) and this vid was perfect! I appreciate you showing some of the fails too, I definitely would've done many of those mistakes lol
Looks like King didn't like guests.
Fuck this. If I wanted to play Super Meat Boy, I would play Super Meat Boy, not Hollow Knight.
hiveblood charm and patience. i got out with full HP (even though i sometimes lost 2 from hitting e.g. a bug and then a buzzsaw, that happened rarely enough that i could heal)
Astute Anansi Git gud.
Git gud.
Git gud.
I think that the Trial of the Fool is a lot more complicated than the Withe Palace.
P.D: Git Gud
thank you so much,this help me a lot I've been stuck here for 1 week until I saw this vid ;-;
