I don't think the RUclips car community realize the quality of videos they give us. This Channel should be up there with Donut, Mighty car Mods ETC. Love you guys as always keep up the good work
Agreed. Really surprised it hasn't reached the same level as many of those. It's such amazing content.
There's no way that bushing sleeve is supposed to be that much bigger.
Agree
That’s how they are, definitely threw me off too when I found the same on my 9 GSR. I think it’s more of a torque mount than a load bearing mount though so the clamping force of the outer bracket onto the bush must be enough
Mitsubishi engineering at its finest.
@@liam_nh Even if they are supposed to have a 1/4" of play, that explains why the bushing fails easily, I would have found or turned a sleeve of some sort just for shits and giggles.
I just realized that very few mention how much you guys enjoy each other…… Well, I’m going to be THAT guy. All of us car guys have the guy we call for help, because we know they’re solid humans, like Moose for you two. That needs to NOT be taken for granted in regards to you guys. Love the rational (rationale?) that was applied to this build. Compliments to your relationship/friendship. I feel like that is a big part of your popularity. I know its a factor in MY viewership/enjoyment. It’s big part of why I’M a fan… Cheers to you both, (every Saturday). Put me in your old guy ‘Saturday morning cartoon’ crew, if I’m not already in that premier group. Be well, Gentlemen. We are here for more of you guys.
Only reason I’m this late is that I’m on an aircraft repair, and was at work when I would have been enjoying this post.
Mitsubishi really had their shit together with these cars
step 1: Get an evo 9 wagon
Fission mailed
@@Oborowatabinostk skibidi, brother
For real. We all watch these cuz we are poor.
So in otherwords, if your in the usa .. you already failed the mission , unless you import one .. we did not get any the cool cars 😢😅
@@mastercricket7626 true haha we're screwed in the US
Definitely do a dyno pull with the stock air box in place as I'm curious as well.
If I remember correctly you shouldn't have to completely pull the retainer clips entirely off for the injector plugs. Just pop them up high enough to be able to pull the plug off the injector. When putting them back on put the connector on the injector then put the clip on. It will go on straight rather than fighting with it trying to put it on unplugged.
That is very true, the clips do not need to fully come out
This.
I don't even remove them, just release one side at a time. They snap right back on with the clip in place.
For those of you importing evos from the land of the rising sun, a prius battery fits and has the proper JIS terminals. depend on the evo generation, you might need to finagle the cables since the terminals might be swapped
just purchased my first ever youtuber merch
That exhaust is 10/10
Waiting to see how it drives hopefully all the low end grunt is still there
Lot of good ideas in the comments. You guy should layout the whole build plan then let the evo guys say what would help then adjust and build. Would probably save money and time and better project
I really love the Speed Academy guys, have been a subscriber for a long time and will continue to watch most of the videos. But I am missing some of the old style videos and projects. The FR-S Ontario 1500 project was probably one of my favorites. Seeing them build a car, and then really drive it is the best type of playlists they make.
Love the cheap, simple builds
That is a beautiful radium fuel rail unit!
This is actually my all-time dream car 🤩
yeah, so the stock injectors will be a 95% duty cycle at 250 WHP on pump gas. The bigger turbo and lower intercooler pipe should be at least 300 WHP. Should have thrown in the bigger injectors. The stock transmission should be good for 350WHP....something you should flush, along with the ACD/AYC, diff and t-case.
They should have the wave spring checked and planets welded for long term power handling
@@OnlyDominican would love to see that so I can do it on my Airtrek turbo
Acd yes but the gta does not have ayc.
@@Willdrknght all gtas have ayc
@@charlielim6799 the process isn't difficult. Clubvr4 and others have it well documented. The extra step we take is swapping vr4 final drives for shorter gearing
IDK why, but I absolutely love sport wagons, enjoying this build for sure
Man the Evo sounds great this particular series got me pretty excited. The Evo wagon is one of my all time favorite cars, keep up the amazing content!!
You guys should upgrade the spark plugs prior to hitting the dyno.
And newer cop system as well
@@mirshah_911 Cop kit would be good, but for their power targets its probably a waste of money if its still in good nic. The transmission will let go before reaching the limits of the OEM coils.
@@BNR_248 transmissions good for over 400 with minimal tweaks to it.
@@mirshah_911 cop kits are fucking stupid
@@OnlyDominican 400 at the wheel or flywheel
The roll stop bushing sleeve is indeed way too big but that's the way it's been since the Evo 1. No concern, just torque it down and it will clamp.
thats crazy lol
Great progress! About the only things I would recommend would be a metal stock 9 bov. It’s going to function much better at low throttle angles and not upset the maf with reversion.
Other thing to consider would be a hks Kansai intake box to pull air from outside the engine compartment. I’ve got one and it works well for 600whp.
ive melted jdm bumpers from that exhaust tip touching there. I put a rexpeed heat shield to protect it... not sure if hks hangers have any adjustment.
Might be a good idea to replace the timing belt as well I learned that the hard way and bent a lot of my valves
ouuuch
Just convert to a speed density intake that uses an IAT sensor bunged into the upper intercooler pipe. When you get tuned, you can set it up via Tephra 7 to use IAT over MAF. Spoolinup makes a MAF sensor harness to convert that harness to the IAT sensor.
Can't run tephra on GTA roms
My first mods were hks intake , cop kit and cat back . The cop kit is a must ! It pulled like a train ! I have the radium catch cans that live under the strut bars too .
My first mods were 3 port, downpipe and exhaust and made pretty good power
@@OnlyDominican I’ve since got the Greddy profec 2 with a 20psi tune still with the little turbo . I’ve built a custom cold air box with the hks intake . Man I want that Artec stuff lol .
@@Willdrknght nice. I opted to use a 3port and do ECU based boost control.
I have my custom rom with 2step launch control and check engine light flash for knock
@@OnlyDominican awesome ! don’t need 2 step with a gta though ! Just need to load that converter a little 🤣
@@Willdrknght it helps with cutting 1.6s 60fts
What a great way to start a Saturday off! An Evo rebuild! I have a Perrin air filter meant for an Evo 8. I can send it to you guys since I'll never own an Evo and got a 05 Mustang. Lmk
Front motor mount hole is totally normal for a 4g. Its for tolerance since the other 3 are tight fit.
You can actually use the HKS pipe with factory airbox but with a bit of work. I did it on my Airtrek turbo with HKS drop in air filter
19:05 holy mother of funnels!
good call on the heatshield, its a nightmare trying to keep a 4g cool when your exhaust manifold is heat soaking the radiator.
I have never been a wagon lover but man I get it. We are expecting so maybe I might actually try one out.
Would love to see you guys build an ls3 Nb2 miata
love the build!
Those are just JPT connectors on the injectors. Depin them and replace with some normal JPT/EV1 connector shells. Would take 5 minutes.
Sounds good!
I’m new to the channel and I’m loving all the evo/eclipse content on RUclips like Ben from gears and gasoline or Alex from legit street cars
I had a sleeve machined up to fill the gap in the crossmember mount in my car, just doesn't seem right to be so sloppy.
Where did you get the replacement mount (with rubber all the way around)?
Rockauto!
Hey guys, you should see if you can get your hands on a Kansai style air box for that OEM+ look!
light tune is the way to go with evos. only things i would have changed are some PON cams and a MHI housing turbo instead of a garret one so you could just run an off the shelf downpipe
That plug is annoying but you can get it in a version where you push on the clip and it releases. Should just be a matter of de-pin and move over.
16:56 I don’t like e85 builds anyways. 93 or 91 octane petrol gasoline builds are best
Would be really cool to see an s13 with a ka24de simple and cheap build
Slush boxes always had defined engines in that Era because they couldn't deal with power reliably. Different story today but this is a bit of a gamble
Can be built up to take extra power .
Of course Pete goes straight to OE Valve covers instead of just pulling off and repainting
Hahahahaha I'm cracking up so much the trick to putting the injector clips on is do it when the injector is plugged in. So half install the clip the pucg the injector in the pushbit the rest of the way.
The mat is was also there on my evo 7 rs
You want to do that rear transmission/motor mount on the subframe also if it hasn’t been replaced already. Also word of advice don’t use a solid type mount for that rear mount you’ll hate it eventually with the auto as too much vibration in the cab
13:55 this was the sole reason Mitsubishi made the 4B11 😂
Loving that background music, do you guys have the long play version hosted somewhere?
You just are the best
There was probably supposed to be a sleeve for that motor mount to take up that gap, or it was packaged wrong for a possible manual transmission version
Watching Evo content because my Evo is broken 😂 please do the stock intake box vs open element test
Please!!! Swap to manual!! This car deserves!!!
Good work as always, but that is got to be the wrong mount gents.
I’m shocked no one else has joined the crew or at least just comes to help. I’d help for free! I swear if I was closer.
That factory manifold and turbo is very close to a bolt on for my beater kia.
@6:13, I had the same issue when i had a Evo GTA, i replaced the metal dip stick tube with a rubber one. Made it myself using heater hose and clamped it, the transmission has a lip on it where you can put the heater hose onto, allowing you to put a worm clamp to tighten it down. Literally the same issue with the same objective, to get the whooshing sound 🤣🤣 I tried relocating the metal one but I dont exactly remember why i couldn't get it to work, i think i ran a stock airbox so no room..
The airtrek one sits in a different position you can maybe try that
Have Charlie Moua/Doryku do your valve cover
You sure auto and manual transmission mounts aren’t different sizes? Could always drill out the holes on the trans and use a bigger bolt
Close the blow off valve and put a 3 inch stainless steel pipe to get that sutututu dose like a Holden vl turbo
You guys should do an Evo 9 vs Evo X build off!
Charge piping running really close to the hot side.
Maybe put something on the down pipe where it gets close to the cold pipe, to prevent it from give off to much heat....
I see a green eg in the back
43.5 psi or 3 bar without vacuum on
I picked up one of your hats today. Was gonna get a shirt also but nothing bigger then xl 😢
My car is not an evo but a mitsubishi mirage and the bushing sleeve on the transmission mount is also way bigger than the bolt🤣
Still getting my head round why Mitsubishi decided to fit the Evo 8 engine, non-metal BOV etc to the 9 GTA wagon when the manual wagon got the MIVEC motor.
Good work so far but the exhaust seems a little short and I’d be worried about it melting the bumper. Definitely extend it at the backbox flange if you can!
Apparently they did try the mivec and auto didn't play well together. So they decided a non mivec would be the easiest and cheapest solution
Man i would love to have one of these ... but it has to have a manual transmission. I dispise autotragic trans-piss-ons lol its a -100 driver skill lol .. but to each there own (by no means am i downing you guys , i love the content just hate auto trans .. mainly cvt's lol)... so now i got my lil messing around crap talk out 😅.. tbh its a clean build and i am deff want to see it as a good daily , finished and spicy lol .. peace and love guys keep it rad stay safe and build on . L8z my brothas and keep having fun guys 🤘🏽✌🏾
Thats freaking me out how light that battery is....
I'm assuming you guys are getting the ECU reflashed if not going standalone? Those Mitsubishi MAFs don't like round pod filters, or at least they don't for the 6Gx and 6Ax applications.
That manual front roll stopper will last a long time with the auto. get why they used a more open one for the GT-A 7 and auto evo 9 wagon, but in terms of longevity, the manual should have been the standard.
does this mitsubishi lancer evo 9 wagon need an air conditioner upgrade?
That transmission bolt is not stock for sure, there shouldn't be that much play.
Pls do the fluids.
It'll drive better on the stock 9 BOV with a MAF.
Everything is cheap as the title says!
That cross member bushing - could it be from a different year or non JDM?
I’m excited to see how it does on the dyno! The exhaust does sound good!
You guys should look into raffling the cars you build, I promise you’re gonna make more than just selling them!
are there any drawbacks using lithium batteries? looks like a win win, smaller size less weight.. but I guess there is a catch
Depending on brand/car/location/temperature/frequency of use you may want to use a battery tender
Manual swap. The wagon deserves it.
👍👍👍
"Honda on the front but Mitsubishi on the back", just like my highschool girlfriend...
We’re can I buy the new Valvoline R&P here in Ontario?
Please get a V70R
Where can I Find the collant tools ?
Also I guess will need adapter depending of the car?
Its in the video description! Link is to amazon for the Airlift tool
💪💪💪💪
That $14k cad is i assume what you paid for it in japan? What was the broker/transport/customs/tax fees?
That bolt for the trans mount is DEFINITELY NOT RIGHT. Go to your little lathe and make an insert that centres the bolt in that mount hole OR drill out the captive nut and replace the bolt with the appropriate size one and use a lock nut with lock-tight.
Factory Evo ecu supports Map
For manual anyway, not sure if the auto is different
@@jeremyjones8739theres only one rom available with sd support. And its not publicly available
@@OnlyDominican would that be a market different market thing, I’m in Australia and it’s pretty common for Evo’s here to ditch the mass air flow sensor and run sd on the factory ecu. Mine included which is a JDM 7 gsr
@@OnlyDominican or were you specifically talking about the auto?
@@jeremyjones8739 Specifically the auto. Theres only one rom i know of in existence done by a russian who's not letting it go without his full setup
I'm surprised they didn't heatwrap that intercooler pipe
That downpipe is going to make that intercooler almost useless
I'm not positive but I'm pretty sure all you have to do is push on the flat of that injector clip the metal part and it will come right off. Removing the metal u clip is not necessary..... And idk if you mean Canada when you say North American but not a single car I've ever seen with an automatic have you needed to push the brake unless it has a push button start. That's so weird.
I had to look it up for myself when he said the valve cover was $500…holy shit! Why are they so expensive??
Blue couplers 😂
There is no way that bolt goes in there like that. It must need a sleave or something.
#sellittome
Anyone else spend the last week looking at wagons on marketplace?
Man, not the blue piping for the intake. Ruins the whole engine bay and looks kinda ricy...
The fact you guys don't prefill your oil filters, makes My OCD tickle the inside of my brain cap...
