hey ,if anyone else wants to uncover steps to draw pencil portraits try Skyarza Portrait Coach Star (just google it ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my mate got cool results with it.
My father was a drug addict and didn't teach me many things growing up, but he did teach me to draw. He had a philosophy about drawing women: draw her hair like you want to run your fingers through it with each pencil stroke, draw her skin like you want to caress it, draw her hands extra carefully like you want to hold them one day, and lastly, draw her face as if it's going to be the only face you're going to wake up to for the rest of you life.
Juan, You're a brilliant teacher and artist. I sat down drawing side by side with my 10 year-old on two of your tutorials. After just two tutorials her techniques showed massive improvement. Methodical guidance yet organic...brilliant. Thanks for sharing your amazing talent. Wish I could give you two thumbs up.
You are an amazing teacher. I've wanted to start drawing manga, and people have been telling me to learn how to draw proportions and anatomy first, and I have to say you have helped me out a bunch. Now that I have mastered the female face, i can move onto the male, and finally practice drawing manga. I'm going to impress some people on school :D
***** thnx for the video! Will definitely look at more videos ;) Trying to learn to draw.. hopefully it will work out lol Btw you have beautiful pieces, especially your girls. They are really pretty 😀
I love your work,I am not an artist because I can't draw and your videos inspired me and I've learned how to draw so many things with your videos. Thank You!
My two college roommates were fine arts majors from Purdue University. They taught me how to draw a face. You are EXTREMELY amazing at what you do. I have only one helpful hint....the iris of the eye rarely touches both upper and lower lids.
You got excellent visual skills and your perception of how the female face should look, is very interesting. I was doing something similar to yours but using a grid and then, using mathematical precision, to get the exact portrait that shows realism and also by breaking down and then, building up to get all the details and the shading the right way. I like the fact that you were committed to executing the facial structure including the hair, flawlessly.
I did a couple of photorealistic pictures copyng a photo with som plus by my side, some years ago, I give it to a girl, and never tried to draw again, until now. I remember to have spent days drawing 2 or 3 hours in some details (like symmetry) The interesting part is that I have never studied drawing or art or even tried before. Now I know it is hard to do, surely with technics and training I'll do it in just a half hour like you. Thank you for your time to teach us.
Twinkle, twinkle little star why is art so f*cking hard up above the world so high I can't draw the other eye Twinkle, twinle little f*ck dammit. what the- I give up
Hey, I wanted to take the time to thank you for uploading this and many of your other videos. They have and will continue to help me along with my progression in the arts. Thank you!
Tougher than I thought it would be, thank you for making the video easy to understand and follow, I like how my drawing turned out. Thank you so much. :)
I like her hair a lot. I'm having some trouble sculpting a decent hair style, but after watching your video I got some ideas on what to try next time. Thank you for sharing :)
You are a master teacher in my opinion! It was by far the best picture I have ever drawn! You inspired me! Had trouble with the hair but still... Excellent picture! Really great teaching!! Thank you for sharing your art gift!
I love the shading! It's not laziness... or at least I hope not. It looks more like a textured surface. It might be a style preference. Some people don't like to render everything out.
Thanks J.Solorzano for this tutorial. I am a born-again Artist, pun-intended, and I am happy to hear people in the world are still sketching and painting. I look forward to seeing more of your work. When do you plan to upload the "Medium" and "Advanced" drawing lessons?
Really great work and teaching!! Thanks for responding back! I did the hair video and I thought the hair looked good but when I tried to draw your friend, it wasnt so good...
Thanks! That was great. I learnt a lot from your style. I like your hair work... I followed you and mine turned out pretty good; better than I expected!
great job!!! I love to draw the female figure, but I have difficulty when I need to work with shadow/light. This video helped me a lot! Thank you, greetings from brasil!!!
It's always fascinating to watch such transformations. Really good tutorial, most likely applicable for "real" paper sketching (with the exception of some manipulations with e-rubber "undo's"). Certainly, I often met approach to mark the eyes first of all, but if this method also works, i'm not going to cavil at. Good luck
I start with a 2H for the sketching, then use a HB halfway, and a 2B for the darkest parts. Some people like using different pencils, so try to experiment to find your favorites.
that fact that YOU dont like it doesnt makes him lazy. its just another way of shading, and it's one of the reasons i like pencil sketches (and digital are that LOOKS like it) so much.
incredible beautiful drawing, and drawing technique. I've used it with very great results! Im very happy cuz now i'm able to draw again. (since a kid I do not draw anything for not knowing techniques like yours). Very thanks from Argentina, sorry for my english, and if you have some e-mail or page, please let mi know so I can send my draw from this tutorial. :) Cheers
thank you soo much for this! i've never ever been good at drawing/sketching, (not even stick figures!) but I had just spent the last few hours working on this and I have to say it looks great! thank you very much. :)
Thanks for watching my tutorials, I will be creating better and longer tutorials using pencil and paper, but you can also follow along with these digital tutorials.
My current 60 minute video tutorials are now reduced! Learn digitally painting using my methods with Corel Painter!

Getting the hair right is tough... I am impressed with all the hard work portrait artists put in to get that real flowy feel !
My father was a drug addict and didn't teach me many things growing up, but he did teach me to draw. Harold Davidson my father was an alcoholic and taught me nothing except how not to treat a woman. he was hella good at drawing too. such a shame.
That sentiment was deep...helped a lot
+Harold Davidson HI harley hats off to your father. And i will also follow the same advice.
+Harold Davidson sorry to hear that, but it's good to hear he did teach you to draw.
+Harold Davidson at least you had a father,I never did

This is a clear tonal drawing, it looks great, thank you!
Thanks I loved the way mines turned out!

and after that erase the details and you get.... A perfect circle thingy!
Gotta love SpongeBob.
"Do it again. Show your process."
Ive looked through like 29 videos about how to make a realistic face man or woman, and this is the only 1 that seemed helpful. Thxs!
This video really helped me and I'm going to continue practicing until I can draw like this by memory!
WOW, Corel painter is doing a great job making this look like actual pencil!
Great control and video, thank you.
Tanks the result is verry beautiful😊
This answers some vital questions when i draw faces of women. will definitely look forward to seeing more from you!
***** thnx for the video! Will definitely look at more videos ;) Trying to learn to draw.. hopefully it will work out lol

I love your work,I am not an artist because I can't draw and your videos inspired me and I've learned how to draw so many things with your videos.
Thank You!
it's good. I am not an artist, but it seems to me that the nose, and more true its tip is displayed somehow isn't realistic
My two college roommates were fine arts majors from Purdue University. They taught me how to draw a face. You are EXTREMELY amazing at what you do. I have only one helpful hint....the iris of the eye rarely touches both upper and lower lids.
Yea.... Mine totally turned out like that -_-

So, I tried it to draw and ended up with saying : Why the long face ..?
I did a couple of photorealistic pictures copyng a photo with som plus by my side, some years ago, I give it to a girl, and never tried to draw again, until now.

05:38 She looks like some anarchist woman from Fallout 3 :D When half of her head is bald.
Wow.. That's awesome. I can't draw anything at all but watching this video through made me really understand the basics of it. Thanks!

Sr. Solorzano, usted es un maestro. Nice tutorial. Thank you from Miami.
I agree with you, por supuesto que estoy de acuerdo!
I love women. There's not a better art than the beauty of a woman :)
Tougher than I thought it would be, thank you for making the video easy to understand and follow, I like how my drawing turned out. Thank you so much. :)
i can draw that anytime
I like her hair a lot. I'm having some trouble sculpting a decent hair style, but after watching your video I got some ideas on what to try next time. Thank you for sharing :)
I found the background music extremely distracting spoiling the very good drawing.
You are a master teacher in my opinion! It was by far the best picture I have ever drawn! You inspired me! Had trouble with the hair but still... Excellent picture! Really great teaching!! Thank you for sharing your art gift!

The Fundamental Pencil . is so good
Great tutorial! You're an amazing artist and I hope you maybe in the future you do more of these. They are absolutely amazing!
This tutorial is helpful but, you need to slow down man. Maybe some commentary would help. I understand it's sped up but still...
WOW this is so great, thank you for giving me all these great ideas with your line techniques.
I am useless ...
Very beautiful and you are very skilled, my friend. And patient, and a perfectionist.

I love the shading! It's not laziness... or at least I hope not. It looks more like a textured surface. It might be a style preference. Some people don't like to render everything out.
i cant even draw a fucking oval
You make it look so simple! Mine came out okay but no where near as good as yours. I'll definitely keep practicing and hopefully get the hang of it!
She looks very, VERY creepy
No!
mmm, not really creepy.
She looks very creepy because it is staring at you in a straight face. Imagine someone stare at you like that
Tried this at home and it came out good. Not as good as yours but I was impressed by how it came out. Best hair I have ever drawn. Thanks dude
Useless. No real advice. Draw this, draw that. How!?!?
What do you mean how?! He's showing you how!
This is awesome man... i was getting rusty with drawing and your video was a nice refresher...
really amazing artwork... and really amazing tutorial... thanks for sharing....
Thanks J.Solorzano for this tutorial. I am a born-again Artist, pun-intended, and I am happy to hear people in the world are still sketching and painting. I look forward to seeing more of your work. When do you plan to upload the "Medium" and "Advanced" drawing lessons?
This helped me understand how to do the eyes and hair, the things I always had problems with, Thanks!!
I love your tutorial. It has really helped me. I still need practice but this really helped with my shaping,
I thought this was fantastic. Just what i needed. Thanks. By the way, i love your choice of music.
Art like this is not something you can get right on, the first time. Keep practicing and you'll eventually get it! Very nice video by the way!
remarkable!
I know a different technique to draw faces, but I think this one is better!
I don't feel like you can teach art. It comes naturally! xx
great tutorial!!!
I managed to draw the face just fine although i made some small changes with the shading and hair.
I am completely 100% beginner and mine turned out amazing! Thank you so much!
Really great work and teaching!! Thanks for responding back! I did the hair video and I thought the hair looked good but when I tried to draw your friend, it wasnt so good...
