Kinda wacky scales on this knife, I made them out of a hardwood veneer stacking them together making a sort of plywood. It gave some great transitions between the layers when I started sanding into the handle.
I couldn't find any brass rod for the pins the day I was working on this, so I also show how to use common tools (I used a drill press but a drill would work fine) to make a solid brass rod out of a commonly available brass screws.
I didn't show all of the finishing, but I ended up going with a two part clear after the wipe on poly was fully dried
Isn't it amazing what you can do with a drill press when you don't have a mill!!!!
absolutely stunning work man, Liked and Subscribed. Seeing gorgeous work like this pushes me to learn more and get closer to being able to start trying it myself.
hi ,,,just starting out making my own knives,,,,so looking at your channel helps at lot ,,thanks
Tappar the knife came out great thanks for sharing, all the best to you and yours
Thanks for stopping by :)
BMW jig saw, this guy is serious about tools and knifes !!!!!!:-))))
At almost to the end, the knife looked meh, then at the final view, "WOW"! Beautiful knife. Good job brother!
+mister smith ha-that's my favorite part of woodworking, it always looks so meh, then it's woa after it's finished.
beautiful knife
+koulisdag Thank you so much :)
Really nice work my man
Cool handle. I was hoping to see you make the blade
+Diesineveryfilm Customs Thanks, maybe someday ill graduate to blade making. I have a lot of respect for the guys that can do that :) Not sure if I have the patience to sit there and grind on something for that long.
Haha I get you. I've made a few blades recently and it's been on fully hardened steel so took me soooooooooo long I was happy to reach the end.
Man I can only imagine, then when I do imagine the 10 bucks for a knife blank doesn't sounds so pricey :p
Hahaha yeh I see what you mean there. I have a local shop that sells files at £1 each so I buy those in bulk to make my knives although I've not successfully used one with my forge yet. Plenty of fail videos on my channel haha luckily a few file knifes came out nice and I've had good feedback on my videos comments so far.
Holy crap what a dick I sounded like haha. I actually meant it differently to how it reads, I thought you made the blade and was hoping to see the process as I like the look of it. You really did perfect it with that handle buddy 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Any Iowa state fan has my like and subscription!
+Sam b I gave em enough money I kinda have to represent :p
Beautiful! But you had me really worried while you were sanding. I thought you were going to spill your beer man, be careful!
nice idea with the lamination. grtz
+Jörgen Börg Thanks
Very nice, at the end is it just danish oil and heat gun to make it that glossy or did you spray a two part epoxy on it?
Hey I just finished a knife with the same blank. Used black canvas micarta though. Nice work! You ever finish that little wolverine hammered folder hiding on the bench?
The heavy breathing in the end :D
very good job..
Thank man!
danish oil all the way? looks super glossy, beautiful
+2CoastCustoms Thanks! I ended up using some 2 part automotive clear for the topcoat
ah ok lol , very nice man!
Nice job.!
I want to make my own folding knife or find a folding knife kit of some sort
+RedGhost1990 I have a video coming soon of a folding knife I made from a blank. If you search ebay "folder knife blank" a bunch should come up. I have used premium knife supply and had a few QC issues but they rectified them immediately and the blades seem to be very good for the price.
Sweet deal i will check that out. Thank You
Very interesting, thanks for the video , greetings from Russian masters :)
Thanks for stopping by
ugly and beautiful , very nice mate well done
Beautifull knife but u shouldn't touch anyting with your fingers that you wanne gleu...
+The Rebel 22 true true, and thanks!
+Tappar The grease that comes out of your fingers without you even notice will make the gleu fail later. Any time !
Degrees and gloves is the best practice! That said I have had knives where I forgot to degrees the metal at all and they have held up, the pins make a huge difference for some fudge factor :)
+Tappar I wear latex gloves all the time when working/custominging on my 1;50 scalemodels. And i got a hold off black ones now, they are much stonger for us guys with big hands and can take a lot more abuse :))-
My wife works for a vet supply company, they have some really nice thick ones I just always forget to have her order them.
magic!!
Could you put on some background music over the sped up sounds? Cause the knife is beautiful but the sound gives me a headache.
Tx, not on the old videos but I do voiceovers on the new ones, always the mute button as well :)
Love it
