My friend's birthday was last weekend, and I can't normally make cakes for her since she's celiac, so this cake was extremely useful, as well as simple. I live in the UK, so I converted the measurements into grams and celsius: -90g of unsalted butter -6 large eggs -170g granulated sugar -cook at 135 c Thanks for the recipe!
Samir C. Cat Chocolate is usually Gluten Free if there aren’t any additives or if it’s made in a gluten free facility. Guittard is a Great Quality Brand of chocolate that’s made in a gluten free facility.
My mom is on a diet, but she loves chocolate so I made this for her! She was surprised when I told her that there was no flour in it and happily ate a few slices. Instead of powdered sugar I put thinly sliced strawberries on top and it gave it extra sweetness and color. This is a keeper
Why would this cake be good when you're on a diet? It's full of sugar and chocolate. I mean, eat it all you want, I'd do that, but it's far from diet-friendly.
@@SamirCCat you wouldn't believe how much calories are in flour. Of course it's not exactly diet friendly but it is wayyyy better than normal cake if you wanna treat yourself while on a diet
I am about to make this cake for the second time this week! It is that good! Very rich, chocolaty, yet very light and airy. Be careful before you mix the egg yolks with the chocolate mixture. Make sure your chocolate&butter mixture has cooled down to almost room temperature before you add in the yolks!
I made this cake last weekend and it disappeared in record time! Whoa! It is so smooth & soft on the palate. It just melts in your mouth. Wonderful, easy, & delicious recipe!
Wow just tried this and came out amazing! I didn’t have butter so I used 3 tblsp coconut oil + 3 tblsp almond butter. I used a bag of chocolate chips instead of a bar. I baked in a square foil disposable tin for 1 hour. I added a little splash of vanilla to the batter mixture. It’s soft, light, fluffy with that crackly top.. tastes fudgey like a brownie yet airy like a cake. SO GOOD! It’s a passover keeper for sure
I subtitud a little things of the ingredients .like I added Dark chocolate , olive oil ,and vanilla .And it turned out so good and fluffy without any cracks on top.Thanks.
OMG! I followed recipe from the link you shared. I used Ghirardelli Semi Sweet Chocolate chips though because I didn't have any other chocolate. The egg whites were a challenge but I did it lol! The cake came out light as air, smooth on top. Only the edges were cracked a little. I forgot the pinch of salt but it still tasted like Heaven. I have an electric oven and baked it at 275 for 50 mins then I let it cool about 2 hours before I released the cake from the Spring Form. I did run a knife around it also. The cake fell a little like it's supposed to. I'd say it's about 2 or 2 in half inches in height. Where before it was like 4, 4 in half. This recipe is a keeper. Thank you so much for sharing Sarah!
I made this cake few weeks ago, it came out amazing. It had a rich chocolate flavor. Everyone loved it. It was very easy to make. For some reason though mine rose a lot while baking i think i beat my eggs a lot. But it still had such good flavor. I added some crushed walnuts on the bottom too.
I followed this recipe exactly like this and right now is my sunday must have. My nieces beg me for this every time! My mom think my cooking has improved!
Can't wait to try this! I'm Keto, and it fits right in with my diet (with the exchange of Monk Fruit or Swerve with the sugar). Also, love celebrating Passover, even though I'm not Jewish. It's the perfect picture of Christ's death and resurrection.
I only have had flourless cake in restaurants and I thought it may be some complicated recipe because it is so delicious. But you're recipe was great and easy to follow. My husband and I just ate it up! So delicious...we loved it! I love your recipes...they are easy to follow and simple yet so good! Thanks for this recipe and video!
Just made this cake and wanted to say that it's really easy and delicious!! A few notes: 1.Microwave oven can be used in place of double boiler with no problem, just make sure you do it in >30s intervals. 2. Make sure the chocolate/butter mixture is cool to room temp before adding the yolks, otherwise the yolk will cuddle. 3. Use a large mixing bowl when folding in the meringue - my mixing bowl is too small and I had to do this in a square-shaped Tupperware and it's NOT. FUN. 4. Depending on your oven you might need to crank up the heat to around 300F for 40 min to get the crackly top.
Kimberly Allan What Michelle said was dead on. As a general rule, you don't want to use salted butter in cooking unless in specific cases so that you have more control of the salt level in the dish you're making.
I suppose we can agree to disagree :) I made it with salted butter and it tasted fine! Perhaps the salted butter where I'm from isn't as salty as it is elsewhere?
Baked this one (along with the strawberry-banana smoothie) for Mother's Day... my first cake ever... success! It is very similar to the "tenerina" cake that's so popular here in Ferrara, Italy. Thank you!
I emailed this recipe to my girlfriend this afternoon and enjoyed this cake for dessert after dinner tonight. Very light, fluffy and not to chocolatey sweet just right! She mentioned the fifth ingredient too (salt). :-) Thank you for tonight's dessert.
Oh Sarah....how I love thee!!!! I served this cake today to my in-laws (since my father in law eats gluten-free only...) and it was an absolute hit. Moist, light, and chocolate-y!! It's now a family keeper!! :-D
Cake is baking as Im typing this. This is the 2nd time I made this, great as a birthday cake for your loved ones, its simple and delicious! It taste best chilled. You can decorate however you want. Yum!!
Will be trying this for the third time this Easter 2020, also happens to be a time of quarantine. Without a doubt a MUST TRY!! Adding them 4 ingdts to my grocery list 😁👩🍳
'Kosher for Passover' you thick xenophobe. Passover Kosher and regular Kosher are two different things. Also, depending on the facility the orange juice is made in, there's a possibility it's not Halal.
If you don't like the cracked crust, add the sugar to the chocolate-butter mixture together with the eggs. I totally forgot about the sugar while whipping up the egg whites, but it still turned amazing. The texture will be less souffle-like, but still amazingly light!
About to go to the kitchen and make a trial run of this cake! Looks like a delicious alternative to those not wanting nuts in their flour-less Passover cake (which I usually make!). Thank you for this recipe, Sarah! You're so fun to watch! :)
Hi Valerie! I loved making the cake..and for those wanting a light cake, it's perfect! ...but..I like the taste of my heavier, nutty flour-less cake much better. Here is a link to it if you're interested! (I also add 1 cup of chopped nuts to the batter....and have even used milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet sometimes!) Let me know if you make it! www.kingarthurflour.com/blog/2008/04/10/flour-takes-a-passover-break-and-chocolate-steps-into-the-breach/
Soo it is a french chocolate mousse baked. that meringue is giving it the airiness that you dont usually get with a standard chocolate flour-less torte.
oh my goodness! this kitchen is serious goals! and i love chocolate cake, i made one the other day too for valentines day! thank you for sharing! very informative and looks amazing, gotta try it! xx
Well i've gotta throw my two cents into the ring and just say my family loved it and described it as almost brownie like with a kinda crisp top. I hate chocolate and thought this was pretty good. I would recommend using quality chocolate tho.
We made the cake, it was quite good. However omit the salt. We used local sea salt, which seems to have far more savour / savouriness than US Kosher salt. Its a nice recipe... without the salt - we have a chocolate slightly salty sweet flourless cake... Oh well... Next time around, no salt!
Does the sugar help the meringue in any way except making it sweeter? Would the chocolate itself be sweet enough if I don't add the sugar to the meringue?
Thank you for your recipes! I love them! I baked this cake last night and today in the morning it was deflated 😢can we still eat it? 🤷♀️was it because I mixed it too much?
Sarah, how well does this cake keep? I have too much to do on the day of the Seder but would love to make this cake. Can it be stored in the frig for a day...or two? BTW, thank you so much for the apple fritter recipe for Chanukah! My family LOVED it!
Just leaving this here for future me and other European cake lovers.
225g chocolate
85g butter
6 eggs
65g sugar
135°C
Thank you!!!
Just did the conversion since I'm Indian (our conversion seem the same) should've visited the comments section first. Thank you!!
1/2 cup sugar called for 115g sugars

But the chocolate?
8 ounces of chocolate = 227 grams 😘
1/2 cup of sugar is 100g.

Thank you for the idea! I gave up sugar and was thinking how I would go about making it.

Nice. very "light" right? almost like eating chocolate flavored air.
Sarah Carey Disgusting Cake
Almina'nın Modası not disgusting
Same here. It lasted 20 min on the table and bam all gone
Almina Bahçeci have you tried it?
i love it when you explain the reasoning behind the techniques. very informative!

I made this. I replaced the butter with coconut oil. It was the bomb.......
I'm not Jewish, but I celebrate passover. As in, pass it over here.

Hahha love this comment 😂

+Abrar Bargash does it come out dry?
Yeah a little bit cuz I didn't put enough butter :)
I really want her to make the same like recipe but vanilla
They lure you in with the promise of 4... Then BAM. Salt.
I know right - who has SALT, of all things, in their kitchen!?
How dare you, Sarah!
'sright I'm a tricky one....you know it!
Sarah Carey you have become one of my go to's for recipes. your so cool Sarah!

Cris Mcoy your probably not Jewish
🎉 So, I made this just earlier this week: and it turned out great! It’s just as easy and delicious as it looks. I highly recommend this dessert! 🍮

Vanilla is a great addition. Plus i would put fresh cream on top. 😋
Why not use salted butter? Then it'll actually be 4 ingredients :) Can't wait to try this!
Salty butter is too salty for this recipe
I know,right?

I love making flourless chocolate cake. It reminds me of a chocolate brownie. 😋 This recipe is far more simple than the recipe I use. ❤
I've made this several times and LOVE how EASY it is and how DELICIOUS it is! I only wish I could find a nutritional chart for it.
Baked this one (along with the strawberry-banana smoothie) for Mother's Day... my first cake ever... success! It is very similar to the "tenerina" cake that's so popular here in Ferrara, Italy. Thank you!
so annoying that it kept showing the cake from the top and you can't see of it's actually a light cake.
Ellena C I
Crunchy on the outside, chewy and moist on the inside.
@Ellena C trust the recipe and the measurement and temp. You will enjoy it 100%.
I emailed this recipe to my girlfriend this afternoon and enjoyed this cake for dessert after dinner tonight. Very light, fluffy and not to chocolatey sweet just right! She mentioned the fifth ingredient too (salt). :-) Thank you for tonight's dessert.
I made this cake and it was amazing it was nice and crispy on the top and moist in the center like a warm mousse.
Thank you so much for this recipe! I did It for my father's birthday and everyone loved It 😊
Oh Sarah....how I love thee!!!! I served this cake today to my in-laws (since my father in law eats gluten-free only...) and it was an absolute hit. Moist, light, and chocolate-y!! It's now a family keeper!! :-D
I made this over the weekend and it was amazing! Followed the recipe + salt exactly. Loved it! Will make again for sure.
Cake is baking as Im typing this. This is the 2nd time I made this, great as a birthday cake for your loved ones, its simple and delicious! It taste best chilled. You can decorate however you want. Yum!!
My go to dessert. Real easy on stomach with exquisite taste. My variations includes Grand Marnier, Cognac or Bourbon & Cardamom 😀
Just made this and it is amazing!! I added some instant coffee and some vanilla..thank you for this recipe.
I'm about to make my husband verrry happy for his birthday thanks to this video! :)

Thank you for this wonderful recipe. It was so easy to make and it was super moist and light.
I actually love that cracked surface look.
can i substitute the sugar with a stevia substitute and how much would you use?
"you don't need to be Jewish to love this cake" am I the only one laughing super hard at this?
Audrey Xiong yes: you are the only one
+Sal Bobrow clearly not bc she has 5 likes
tiba mouaki Because likes mean everything huh?

Thanks Sarah I've nervier tried a flourless cake. Very interesting.. I will try this.
This recipe looks delicious. I'm gluten free so this works for me.

Kudos to you for making it through without a single spot on your white t-shirt!👍🏻
I actually looked up flourless cakes for passover and when you mentioned it, i was like 😳 woah, did you read my mind?? Doing this for sure
I actually love the lovely cracks on top!
A great Passover recipe-!
Well i've gotta throw my two cents into the ring and just say my family loved it and described it as almost brownie like with a kinda crisp top. I hate chocolate and thought this was pretty good. I would recommend using quality chocolate tho.
OMG, I'm salivating over here right now... I think I know how my dog felt when I grilled meat on the outside grill!!!
We have someone in the family that he can't eat flour so this cake is delicious. Thank you
I don't even like chocolate but this looks SO GOOD. Especially the folding. Damn.
thank you so much! That looks delicious, greetings from mexico
It’s very good.
This cake looks delicious and I can't wait for the new series!
How do you store this? If I make this the night before, do I put in refrigerator or leave overnight on the counter?
I am so going to try this recipe! Yum
I DID IT! -- It's so soft and perfect. AMAZING. My friends thinks that I am a baker xD and no one of us was jewish but we totally loves this cake!
Nice idea.instead of cream you use the egg whites..nice!
Thank you so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge, Sarah! Your vids are fantastic!! 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🌷
How long will it hold in the fridge? Can I make it a day ahead?
Great video, thank you! I just have one question; could I skimp on the egg yolks? I mean, could I use 5 eggs plus 1 egg white?
I was looking for a recipe like this!!!!
Great video ! I'm going to try this one. Thank you Sarah
dorra chatti they want you to go to the martha website to read the recipe
okinoboo Aww yeah maybe ;) Thank you !
Nice recipe, cant wait to try it
How many grams is 6 tablespoons of butter? :S
can i know what kicthen aid's model is that ?
Yum, looks super easy and very tasty!
It is.
looks really good, thank you Sarah
Looks yummy
Still a favorite in my household
We made the cake, it was quite good. However omit the salt. We used local sea salt, which seems to have far more savour / savouriness than US Kosher salt. Its a nice recipe... without the salt - we have a chocolate slightly salty sweet flourless cake... Oh well... Next time around, no salt!
👍This was lovely & easy to make. Thank you. 💞
This looks like a pavlova so i cant wait to try this!
can i use hersheys chocolate instead? please answer! i'm planning on making it tomorrow
Can you substitute Stevia for the sugar?
Since it's basically a souffle, would a Bain Marie keep it from cracking?
Done 😃 nicely
So yummy was hopeing for left overs but my family ate it all up soon good
Does the sugar help the meringue in any way except making it sweeter? Would the chocolate itself be sweet enough if I don't add the sugar to the meringue?
Sugar is what gives the meringue a shiny look. I dont think you should drop it out; instead you can use darker chocolate :)
I always add a shot of espresso when melting the chocolate
Thank you for your recipes! I love them! I baked this cake last night and today in the morning it was deflated 😢can we still eat it? 🤷♀️was it because I mixed it too much?
scghc you did it great, it must be delicious! 🤤🤤
Sarah, how well does this cake keep? I have too much to do on the day of the Seder but would love to make this cake. Can it be stored in the frig for a day...or two? BTW, thank you so much for the apple fritter recipe for Chanukah! My family LOVED it!
can I make this in the microwave?
I've triad this with coffee Ice cream yummmmmy super delicious never make the chocolate mix again ,love it :D
Can I add a TSP of espresso powder to the mix?
thanks! Great recipe
Can we replace butter with vegetable oil?
Yum I want to make one and eat it !
Looks Amazing And Delicious !
It’s sort of like a soufflé being that you add beaten egg whites and not mix them too much in the chocolate mixture.
