I have both of these guns, I love them both… I feel like the LCP Max is top of the food chain for .380… the Max 9 is in my opinion seriously underrated, and I’ve had zero problems or malfunctions from either but I will say between the two, the LCP Max gets the most carry time from me just because of size and weight ,I forget it’s even there. If I had to find one thing to complain about them it would be the slide finish… I’ve had them over a year ( Max9) and almost a year ( LCP Max) and don’t have any rust, but I do occasionally wipe them down with Remington oil. Btw I enjoyed this video and others of yours I had seen in the past

I agree 100% on the LCP max. It is so carryable. Pocket or ankle I forget it's there.

Which one would you choose if you could buy just one?

    • @TheHillbilly1979

@@chrissalmon3503LCP Max for sure… it’s just so small and convenient to carry and yet still very shootable for such a tiny gun. I have several different ones but this one gets the most carry time of them all. Plus it solves the main downside of .380, the capacity was one of the biggest drawbacks of this caliber and now this one can carry 13 rounds

@@TheHillbilly1979 Right now the Max 9 is $369 and the LCP Max is $389 at Academy. I hate to buy less gun with only 1 mag, for the same money, but I have carried the LCP II for 4 years, and the size and weight difference seals the deal. Apparently, a lot of people agree, or the 9mm would cost more.

I’ve used a variety of pocket pistols since 2014 in both .380 and 9mm. I think the LCP MAX has the current best combination of features and quality so far. Now if they could lose the Ruger “twang” in the trigger…..

I am seriously considering acquiring the LCP Max as a pocket backup to my Max-9. Thanks for the video and keep shooting 👍.

The most relevant comparison in this video was of the sight picture, and not because of the sighting per se, but because it was the only shot of the actual girth of each gun. When spoken, gun width measurements do not really convey the perceived difference in gun concealment ability. The LCP is noticeably thinner than the 9 mm pistol, hence it offers less “printing” possibility.
Width comparisons are frequently left off of specs, even on many dealer websites. My J-Frame revolvers were lightweights, but their barrel girth prohibited concealed carry in summer.

Thanks. This is just what I was looking for. I want to upgrade my LCP II. Right now, the Max 9 is $369 and the LCP Max is $389 at Academy. The size and weight difference is significant when it comes to pocket carry. Apparently, a lot of buyers agree or the price of the 9mm would be a lot more. Sucks to have to buy the extra mag with the LCP, but that's the way it goes.

Good video, I have both of these guns along with an LCR .38 Special.
I always carry the revolver along with one of these two pistols.
    Very happy with Ruger firearms.

Very good informative video! I have both Ruger Max 9 and Ruger LCP Max 380. Usually Pocket Carry the Max 9 but sometimes depending on what I'm wearing it's the 380 Max > Every once and awhile it's both (Max 9 IWB Appendix and 380 Max Pocket) I tired a red dot on the Max 9 but didn't like that I wasn't able to pocket carry it anymore so I took it off. Thanks for sharing. God bless...

Hey Mr. really love your vids, I've bought the LCP II, a couple of years ago, when it first came out, never shot it. Then a little over a year ago, right when the LCPMAX came out I went out and bought it. Finally I went to shoot them. Don't like my pinky swinging, so I then bought some 4 mags, +1 for the LCP II , and after buying that Max, I also then bought the 12 round mag . Great little guns, great for carrying in the pocket. I surely need to practice with them, can't hit the side of a barn with them. Great ankle guns, thats the purpose I've bought them. Just for a back up, but : AFTER I get to practice with them some!

I just ordered a Max 9 for $325 and i got my LCP Max for $399. No complaints with either. Max 9 is my EDC but ill take the LCP when im wearing lighter cloths like gym shorts. Ruger has always been my favorite gun company and still is.

Exactly. .380 is perfect for really close encounters as most defensive situations are within 5 feet. A few center mass 380 shots are better than a 9mm hand shot.
Plus, the 380 LCP Max is great for super hot Texas summers. Lol

My Max-9 broke after only 400 rounds. The takedown plate broke and the slide wouldn't lock back after the last round and would sometimes lock open with rounds still in the magazine. I sent it back to Ruger and they fixed the problems but to be honest I am not very confident in the pistol now considering they replaced the broken parts with the same type of parts that are the same weak quality and I worry that it will just happen again.

Both guns are great, sights are great, almost suppressor level infact a threaded barrel would make these guns fantastic. Also like the rounded edges alot like early colt pocket and hammerless pistols. The 380 is a great carry as it might reduce collateral damage while still doing the job, especially when it's shorts and tank top weather at 100 degrees plus outside.

My brother has an lcp max an it really is small. I have a couple p365s I usually wind up taking one of the two with me, but side by side that 380 really is smaller by a fair bit. I wouldn't mind having one for an ankle or pocket gun for certain occasions.

I carried the Lcp2 as my summer carry for years and immediately switched to the Lcp Max as soon as it came out. I winter carry the Ruger Security 9 Compact but have been considering the Max 9 for years to get into the Red Dot game. I wish someone would compare the Security 9 Compact and the Max 9 shooting.

Would you happen to know if the dovetail cut for the rear sight is the same on both of those guns? I ask because they have a red dot mounting plate for the 380 and would love to use it on my California edition Max 9... California edition has the loaded chamber indicator so not cut for a red dot... Loaded chamber indicator easily removed. Thanks for any help
