As an old drummer myself I find the drumming on Teacher Teacher fascinating with what feels to be oddly placed Snare hits and syncopated third china hits but I have heard the song enough times be comfortable with it. He is amazing.
When it is your final song at Wacken, I think you are probably allowed to show off a bit. I'm 74, and seriously considering going there next year. I was introduced to Nightwish at their Wembley Arena concert in 2015 and my eyes were opened. I used to by 90% classical, but that has now all but vanished from my life. Metal now has my heart, and I have found that many metal musicians used to be classical but needed a challenge that Beethoven and Bartok could not offer.
Beethoven and Bartok offer unique challenges. I wouldn't say one is "better" than the other. Just different. One day, I'm challenged by playing through Tool's 10,000 Days album. The next, I'm challenged by playing major/minor scales on the marimba at various speeds.
@@teckreactions Sure they offer challenges, but they are not new. Every classical musician now has the T-shirt. Talking of Tool, I presume you have watched Vic Firth's drum cam of Danny Carey playing Pneuma? That is an education.
@@donepearce I have. Had the pleasure of seeing it live during a drum clinic he ran in St. Louis. Classical music continues to evolve so I would argue that while there is no new Beethoven or Bartok coming, there are composers alive today writing music that will be synonymous with those composers.
@@teckreactions I think Tuomas Holopainen, the musical brain of Nightwish, falls into that category. Their "The Greatest Show on Earth" should be teached in musical education.
@@teckreactions agree, also metal and classical seem to overlap a lot, i love me some nighwish, jinjer, sonata arctica, sabbaton the list goes on but ive also got a playlist of classical and classicalesque featuring Danse Macabre, Verdi Requiem, The Planets Mars, Lacrimosa Suite espagnole, Op. 47: Asturias and more. i love watching the charasmatic voice or 8bit drummer and others react to, play and talk about metal but i also watch chanels like twoset violin and ray chen for the love of classical. I think when you love metal all your life and need something adjacent to it you look to classical and the same is true the other way too.
The reason why youre chanel is groing is that youre genuine optimism and knowlige and showing it. It is what, i think, some reactionchanels lack. Thanks, again Nice reaction! Greetings from a fellow drummer 🥁from Nederland. Keep it up😎
First time I saw them in Atlanta years ago, they were selling that gold outfit she wore in this lol. They are absolutely mind blowing live, I've seen them 3 times since, and every time they bring it. I'd recommend checking out Who is Going to Be The One live, or On The Top live in Kiev
"Teacher, teacher", as many has suggested. It's a studio recording, but with video cut from a few live shows. Also, "Vortex", one of the newer tracks. I'm not a drummer, but to me it sounds like there's some weird stuff going on there... 🙂
Seconded. Teacher, Teacher shows a whole lot of technical, syncopated intricacies, while managing to keep a groove and be melodic. While Vortex is on another level. Unusual songwriting that flows perfectly, with a different level of technicalities.
Very good reaction, liked the explanations especially about the drumming. About Jinjer, they can do lounge, funk, reggae and some of the hardest, innovative black metal at the same time. I hope they do a Jazz album one day. Thank you so far, I subb.... Oh ya, I also recommend Teacher Teacher because it's again a bit different then the first two and very impressive.
Fantastic performance Tatiana's stage presence is incredible. The whole band is so talented. Every song is unique, and even better once you understand the meaning behind the lyrics. Tatiana is a vocal beauty and beast. So captivating. Definitely check out Teacher Teacher, official video, but for Judgement and Punishment Tatiana's one take vocal performance version. Not the music video for that one.
I came to Jinjer for the string work and the drumming. The vocalist performance is the best icing for the cake. If you love Vlad's jazz drumming go for Vortex or Wallflower OMVs (my two fav). Extreme drumming with syncopation go to Home Back OMV. Teacher Teacher OMV is another great choice. Next live performance should be Who's gonna be the one?! By the way, everything they do is musically amazing. While Vlad is a jazz drummer with classical temper his predecessor Dmitry Kim who can be heard on I Speak Astronomy, is an awesome metal drummer, so the contrast in approach is great. Maybe you do a double feature of it OMV with Dmitry and one live performance with Vlad.
From a drummer’s perspective, I would say that “Teacher, Teacher” and “Vortex” show off Vlad’s talent really well. The whole Wallflower album is a thing of beauty. Vlad did most of the composition and it shows. He is a classically trained musician and the album is mostly through composed with musical motifs. It’s more like a classical piece in 11 movements than a metal album.
Loving the Jinjer reactions. I got to see them live in Atlanta in December 2022. What a killer show! They are so amzing live, as you see. I'd go with some others and recommend "Pit of Consciousness" live in Kiev. It's incredible!
Teacher Teacher video is awesome but if you want to go to the top of the Jinjer mountain I would suggest Pit of Consciousness LIVE!!!! But so many great tunes by Jinjer ... the rabbit hole is full of changeup tunes that will keep you on your toes, luv luv luv the Jinjer rabbit hole
She is absofuqinlutely AMAZEBALLS LIVE!!!! Got to see Jinjer, Breaking Benjamin and Disturbed last fall....what a kicka$$ concert that was. Jinjer came out and did about a 45 minute set, god the way she switches back and forth and just KILLS it!!! The whole band is just talented AF, so good.
I want to suggest you one of my favorites songs by Jinjer: Cloud Factory (official video ) I love the drums un the song, The rythm is contagious and headbanger challenge, As the song "outlander" This band became one of my favorites, easely, they are (in my humble opinion) unthe level of Legendary metal bands, the composition, execution, are insane, And the blend of Styles (as the Symphonic metal) makes a refreshing to the traditional metal sound, And the lyrics, ... Love it!!
Jinjer Judgement (& Punishment) one take vocal performance is a perfect platform to concentrate on Tati's great technique since she sings solo with the band piped in. You will love it. Great analysis again.
If you want to hear some subsonic growls, check out ‘Pit of Consciousness’ live in Kiev. It is also a banger. Sit, Stay, Roll Over is an older song, but is the one that got them signed with Napalm Records. That might be one of my favs along with Outlander, another oldie of theirs. Remember they have been around since 2009 and this line up since 2016.
I see alot of people say that teacher teacher should be next. And i agree 100% with them! Teacher teacher will show you yet another side of jinjer that you will not expect at all... that and the video is just downright a masterclass in live performance filming and conversion to an official video.
Actual musicians reacting to and analyzing and APPRECIATING the music we love is undeniable. One worship drummer to another, lots of luck on your channel! Subbed!
The Pisces video was basically to introduce Vlad (the drummer) and give out a new studio recording of the song since his sound made it sound really different compared to their previous drummer. Now honestly I don't think I heard the old version but this is going by what the band themselves said.
3:58 - Yeah, YT changed the way the keyboard shortcuts work (another pointless change but anyway...), so now the spacebar doesn't exclusively command play/pause. If you use the mouse to click on another function the spacebar is allocated to that function and it'll only start commanding play/pause again if you use the mouse to resume playing. 6:14 - He started playing drums circa 2014, in a band called Zlam where he previously was the guitarist.
When you move your mouse over to the play button, it displays the correct shortcut, the letter 'k'. Spacebar is a dodgy shortcut sometimes since it controls multiple parameters depending on which element is active. 'k' will always work since it is the dedicated shortcut for play.
On the subject of RUclips shortcuts. You clicked on the pause button which is why spacebar didn't work, just click on the video itself and you get full shortcut use with spacebar and arrow keys for 10 sec skips in either direction.
G'day! I saw them in Melbourne and they were one of the best live acts I've ever seen! Tati is a true wild child on stage and her growl live is unworldly to say the least. Great reaction to this. Hey Matt - The way my 'shorts' videos show up don't leave an opportunity to respond so I'll do it here. Lived the last 39 yrs on Kodiak Is, Alaska.....a bit off the beaten path making it problematic to make it to concerts!! First concert was Petra, Spring of '84 - last concert was Joan Jett/Quiet Riot in Anchorage, early Spring of '85. Was a big fan of the CC hard rock from the '80s like Stryper, Bloodgood, Barnabus, etc. but have not been able to stomach hardly anything from the CC scene in current times! RUclips has been my lifeline to new, incredible music and I am enjoying your discovery of much of the music I love today! Cheers for the journey!🤘
Gojira - The Gift Of Guilt (Live at Brixton Academy, London) MESHUGGAH - Clockworks (Drum Playthrough w/ Tomas Haake) two great drummer, Mario Duplantier is a fun watch, and Tomas Haake is inhuman.
Another great reaction! I'm loving the love for Jinjer and the rest of the heavy. Would love to see your opinion on a few different bands, Spiritbox, Unleash the Archers, Polyphia, Ayreon, Ningen Isu, The Hu, I saw somewhere in here that you're doing Band-Maid soon. When you want to go even heavier, we can lead you down a path of unbelievable musicians who just happen to be a bit louder than the rest.
@@teckreactions I can make recommendations for each if you'd like. In the same vein as Polyphia, Animals as Leaders or Nuclear Power Trio are also great options.
Vlad has a few drum playthrough videos on their yt channel. I suspect you'll enjoy those given that you tend to focus on the drumming. I'm a big fan of the Mediator one, which is interesting as I don't particularly care for that song, but the drumming in it is nuts.
I don't know if you've heard of Oceans Ate Alaska. But their drummer Chris Turner is a monster. He just did a video with Drumeo and it's great. He also has a solo album. In the drumeo video he plays some of his solo album stuff
Jinjer are multi-faceted. Frequently much more heavy than Pisces, but always has a groove. Open stance is the most logical way to play drums. You mentioned Carter Beauford from DMB, who is an excellent drummer. One of Carter's influences was Billy Cobham, also an open player who I have seen play a couple of times. When you see them play this way it makes perfect sense....until I try to do it lol. Vlad also sometimes switches which foot he will lead with. If I had to pick a favorite person in Jinjer, Vlad would be it. Keep rocking.
I think someone is developing a bit of a Tatiana crush. No worries, we've all been there! 😉 As someone said here before, Jinjer doesn't do bad songs. My suggestions are, Teacher, Teacher, Vortex, Pit of Conciousness (live in Kiev), and then I Speak Astronomy. Oh and btw, I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but their latest album, Wallflowers, was written by Vlad, the drummer. Or at least the vast majority of it. I'm really enjoying your reactions, you definately know your stuff, which is always refreshing. Genuine reactions with musical knowledge added to it is just perfection. Glad I stumbled into your channel. Oh and Gojira? Please? *puppy eyes* I left a suggestion under the Pisces video. 🤘🙂
Enjoying the reactions...You missed her blowing the audience a kiss at the end, heh...Check that little part out; she has real old Hollywood glamour on that move. Regarding the drummer, I wondered if you had any insight on a couple of things. Does the fact that he came to the drums later in life rather than being one of these guys who started playing when they were three, and the fact that he, I think, is largely self-taught color the way he plays? I'm speculating perhaps he does some things that are a little unusual and unique. And how would being a trained pianist impact his understanding of drums or the way he approached them?
I saw the kiss, but there was so much extra stuff on the screen that I had to edit it out of the final version. What a great question. I think the fact that he learned drums on top of heavy classical roots played a significant factor. I don't know much about his musical experience so I would not be able to expand on how or why he chose to learn the style he did. I would be curious to hear more of his story and who inspired his playing style.
Looks like Teacher Teacher will be your next one due to the high demand. I'd like to see you do a "double feature" where you watch the official video of a song, then watch the drum play through right after. Vortex or Mediator would be good choices to try it on, if you like the idea. Enjoy your reactions!
You need to check out a band called Unleash the Archers , song is called Awakening , show alot of the drummer and how he plays along with the rest of the band
I know this request is going to get drowned out by Teacher Teacher, however if you look into the song Mediator, there's a phenomenal drum cam playthrough just focusing on Vlad. In my opinion it is the epitome of a demonstration of his skills. He is so in the pocket it is unbelievable. Coming from a drummer of 20+ years, seeing you react to this band is a joy!
You want crazy heavy Jinjer…Sit Stay Rollover and Mediator. Seat belts are required lol. A great old school banger from them is Outlander (color failure version).
What's next? Jinjer - Teacher, Teacher. Remain buckled up. lol
As an old drummer myself I find the drumming on Teacher Teacher fascinating with what feels to be oddly placed Snare hits and syncopated third china hits but I have heard the song enough times be comfortable with it. He is amazing.

I don't know if you've heard of Oceans Ate Alaska. But their drummer Chris Turner is a monster. He just did a video with Drumeo and it's great. He also has a solo album. In the drumeo video he plays some of his solo album stuff
I have not.
check out Teacher, Teacher. You will hear crazy switches on vocals and the drumming is nuts...Lots of shots on the kit...
Teacher Teacher is up.
Yeah. I practiced open style for a little while, but 25 years of habits is hard to break.
I think someone is developing a bit of a Tatiana crush. No worries, we've all been there! 😉
As someone said here before, Jinjer doesn't do bad songs.
Don't tell my wife. Thanks for the kind words!
Teacher teacher next let’s goooo
Super!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!+++++++++!!!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
An amazing drummer to check out is Chris Turner from Oceans Ate Alaska.
Cool!
Every song is different and unpredictable...
So far!
Looks like Teacher Teacher will be your next one due to the high demand. I'd like to see you do a "double feature" where you watch the official video of a song, then watch the drum play through right after. Vortex or Mediator would be good choices to try it on, if you like the idea. Enjoy your reactions!
Right on
You need to check out a band called Unleash the Archers , song is called Awakening , show alot of the drummer and how he plays along with the rest of the band
I'm seeing this band pop up more and more in the comments.
Im surprised no one has suggested slaughter to prevail in regards to drumming. Their drummer Evgeny is a beast 🤣
I’ll take a look
first time here, if you haven't already check out Lorna Shore, a good start is To The Hellfire followed by the trilogy Pain Remains
I've seen it. Pretty incredible.
The drummer is LMG on this one. The sound is so clear and neat!!!
they have a drum specific video for vortex you would love it
Nice
Check some of the drummers play throughs. You’ll enjoy them
Will do
I know this request is going to get drowned out by Teacher Teacher, however if you look into the song Mediator, there's a phenomenal drum cam playthrough just focusing on Vlad. In my opinion it is the epitome of a demonstration of his skills. He is so in the pocket it is unbelievable. Coming from a drummer of 20+ years, seeing you react to this band is a joy!
Awesome!
you should check out Judgement (& Punishment) - Tatiana Shmayluk - One Take Vocal Performance
On it
You want crazy heavy Jinjer…Sit Stay Rollover and Mediator. Seat belts are required lol. A great old school banger from them is Outlander (color failure version).
The Jinjer list is growing!
