It is really a brave song about people struggling with alcoholism. The Green Serpent is an Eastern European metaphor for alcoholism. (Tatiana has posted about her sobriety). She and the band have a lot of talent but it takes guts to expose one's struggles. Great reaction as always.

The lyrics to this song (and the lyrics to their song Kafka) just cement how much of an impressive human being I think Tatiana is. She is now two years sober and anyone who knows someone who has done something like that knows that it can be a hard thing to do. Attitude and having the correct outlook on why the drinking was bad for you is a huge part of being able to continue. If the person does it only because the people around them want them to stop and they still don't see the big deal then it probably won't stick. If instead they fully understand how destructive and maybe even humiliating it was for them personally they might succeed. The lyrics here are full realization of why it wasn't good. Eugene also did it. He said he didn't like the person he was when he drank.
Jinjer recently did a video with Audiotree called Jinjer From Nothing where they play three songs from the Wallflowers album in a live session format and talk about the origin of the band, their songwriting flow and their relationships. It's a great watch and a number of people have reacted to it. You can really see all of them do their thing up close.

Jinjer albums are highly anticipated because of how monstrously amazing they are, not the length of time waited between releases.

lol Green Serpent is metaphorically referred to alcohol in russian. Bitten by green serpent in slavic tradition is symbolic of alcoholism and the depths of intoxication/addiction.....as for the song, the opeth outro is cool. Middle LOG breakdown is cool. Also kinda sounds like an angular proggy album cut on first listen, but quickly turns out to be a banger😂😂.....also tati looks hot here 😂😂

This is a very personal song addressing Tati's and Eugene's past alcoholism- both quit drinking 2 years ago. You sort of get it- you note that the serpent wants to be your friend- as alcohol can do- but it is not. Others have noted the meaning from Russian folklore, about alcoholism.

Amazing. Trying to make the lyrics biblical. As an Irish Catholic born child. Its amazing how alcoholism is so ignored in that culture. You are told what your sins are but drinking booze is WIDE OPEN. Most sins committed in that faith are due to alcohol. Interesting thought.

Cool reaction. I see some people bashing you for not getting that it's about alcoholism. That's silly imo. I did immediately grasp the meaning but why would anyone be mad at someone who doesn't.
btw it would not surprise me if the symbolic meaning in slaic culture have Christian roots, Serpent/satan is the tempter in the Garden of Eden, and temptations of alcohol and addiction to alcohol and it's evils seems a pretty straightforward analogy to me. And eastern slavic culture is deeply (Orthodox) Christian.

Why are Americans so totally helpless when confronted with metaphors??? It's about alcoholism. She all but spells it out in the lyrics. Zelenaya Smeya or 'Green Snake' means 'Vodka' in Russian...
