When you see Dan Ackroyd shedding a tear at the very end, that was him for real. He was overcome with emotion when they staged the father and daughter hug.
I have said it many times... the very first time, i saw it in theater, i had one thought That ending when Egon shows up, Bills "I knew you turn up" Dans "Im sorry" and Ernies "I should have called" to me, it wasnt Peter, Vince and Ray talking to Egon. It was Bill, Dan and Ernie saying "Sorry Harold, we should have done this, while we had time"
Ivan Reitman wore the gear for that scene and Bob Gunton played Egon at the start. I saw this at the LA premiere and when Egon showed up, you heard nothing but grown men crying
Same here. I was not expecting to bawl my eyes out for a comedy film, but once you've grown up with the originals, there's no denying how sorely missed one can be after passing away.
It was Ivan, the OG of the director for Ghostbusters movies(2 of the them). He was the body double & it was his last days. Man it was the emotional & bittersweet moment especially for Jason who did the directing for this movie. This movie helped me to move on & just feel appreciated in such delicate ways. Rest in Peace, Harold & Ivan! Live on the Ghostbusters! And my favorite OG Ghostbusters, is all of them!
Went and saw this in theaters. People were laughing, cheering during a particular scene and I heard some sniffles from people crying. This was the Ghostbusters movie we were waiting for. Gave major respect to the original two movies and characters. While also paving a way forward for sequels of its own. They did Ghostbusters right.
I saw it twice in the theater. The Ultimate Collection apparently sold out BUT I heard that there may be a new production run. If so, I will pick that up. If not, I will get the Blu-ray. I think the final after-the-credits extra scene both gives a wonderful, 'the American Dream can be yours if you make the effort' message by Ernie Hudson.
@@pauld6967 I love that they gave Ernie Hudson a final scene all to himself, he never got the proper screen time as the others. So they definitely did his character justice too in the sequel.
@@Cwhirt910 Absolutely. Plus, I have heard that an easter egg is that the film acknowledges that he got his Doctorate. There is a listing of him as Dr. Winston Zedemore. I haven't spotted it yet. If true, that would be another thread of continuity reaching back to either the 2nd movie or the video game where we learn he has gone back to school. I don't recall for certain which at the time of this writing. EDIT: After a bit of searching I found this; "Also revealed in Ghostbusters: The Video Game is the fact Winston earned or attempted to earn a Ph.D. During their investigation at The Museum of Natural History, Winston comments "Ah, the Egypt exhibit. I practically lived here while I was working on my doctorate." Whether this occurred prior to the events in the movies, or between then and the video game, is not made clear."
Loved this movie, when Egon's hand appears at the end, I did have a moment of "They didn't... did they?" that had me fearing about HOW they bring Egon back, but I'm very happy with what they did and think it was just right. SO Glad they didn't have him speak etc.
Phoebe was amazing. Even the deliberate annunciation when she spoke was very Egon-like. And my favorite original character was probably Ray. That’s probably more like myself. We saw it in the theater but just got the 4K at home so that’s next to watch again. Thanks for your reactions! Always entertaining.
My fav Phoebe/dad joke is -->"A grasshopper walks into a bar and the bartender says “We have a drink named after you!” So the grasshopper says, “You have a drink named Steve?!” -Phoebe"😂. It's McKenna Grace's sweet facial reaction that makes it such a adorable joke and why I love it and her.
What I think made this movie so successful was that it didn't lean on the original films too much to carry it. It managed to be it's own film while being respectful to the originals and passing the baton in a beautiful way. It really did feel like Dan Ackroyd was saying goodbye to Harold at the end. Mckenna Grace was an amazing mini-Egon. Definitely my favorite. Peter Venkman is my favorite OG Ghostbuster.
For me the granddaughter was the greatest new character. She's almost like a younger version of Egon. I had to check out if she's related to Harold Ramis.
'Both of our free passes,' had me laughing so hard I could hardly breath! Thanks. As for using Ivan/Egon at the end, they honored his memory rather than used his memory, so that was great. Let's see you react to the Frozen Empire trailer!
31:01 Based on the timeline this movie sets up it's fully possible that Ghostbusters: The Video Game is being acknowledged as canon it's events take place in 1991 and Ivo Shandor was the primary villain in that and I believe he attempts to steal Gozer's powers so that would explain why Gozer just offs him right away once freed.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game and this movie directly contradict each other in crucial ways (for example, you find the literal skull of Ivo Shandor in the game), so there is no way The Video Game can be canon.
I dunno if another comment got deleted or what, but they're not just contradictory, but they're fundamentally incompatible. There is no way to make sense of both things having happened. The movie was supposed to take place in 2020 before the pandemic delayed it. I also cannot find any source on Aykroyd saying the game was canon. I think some people care about preserving the game because they believe the opening credits saying the game was written by Aykroyd and Ramis, but those were honorary credits, per the developers in an AMA when the remastered edition came out. The game was written by the developers themselves and Aykroyd and Ramis gave approval.
@@tylerfoster6267 if you do some research akroyd say that the game was the third movie, he also written the game with ramis and collaborated with the developer, to this day the game is considered canon. The Egon scenes made this tatted up 43 year old cry like a baby. I was NOT expecting that. McKenna Grace was amazing. Her portrayal as a neurodivergent kid is probably the most accurate I've seen. Pleasantly surprised by this.

I realized that while Podcast is so Ray and Phoebe is obviously Egon, Lucky is Venkman becasue she messes with people and Trevor is Zeddemore (mostly based on how he is the one who fixes up the car and is pretty practical in hos own way.)
Fun fact: When they said that there hasn't been a ghost sighting for 30 years, it means since 1991. 1991 is the exact year that the Ghostbusters video game took place. That's also probably why Gozer ripped Shandor in half.
Loved this movie. The actor playing Phoebe really got the mannerisms down so well for her character. It makes me tear up each time I see the third act.
Did you catch the Easter Egg with the town's cinema marquis saying CANNIBAL GIRLS was playing? That's the same movie on a cinema marquis in GHOSTBUSTERS II!!
It should be noted that Violet Ramis Stiel, his daughter, also was very emphatic that her father would have loved the 2016 movie as well, as one of her final, treasured memories of him was watching him laugh hysterically at Paul Feig's Bridesmaids, specifically singling out McCarthy as a great talent. She stated she finds it disrespectful when fans act like he would have had a grudge against the reboot.
The movie was a brilliant masterpiece and a beautiful tribute to Harold Ramis. I loved it. Couple years ago, I told people, where the 2016 remake had failed miserably, Ghostbusters afterlife will succeed. And *So it did* and for all the right reasons 👻
It seems like she's been young EVERYONE the last few years. Young Captain Marvel, Young Tonya Harding, Young Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Young Emma on Once Upon a Time
I didn't even recognize Olivia Wilde as Gozer. I did know that the character's voice was done by Shohreh Aghdashloo, who is known for having a distinctive, low voice for a woman.
I was so excited to see this movie. I wasn't disappointed and the ending was legendary. McKenna was amazing as Phoebe. The entire cast was amazing in this. For Harold. RIP Harold Ramis/Egon, great reaction guys!❤️🙏🏻😌
Without Ghostbusters I wouldn't wanted to get into Spooky things and want to be actor. Who knew I would do Haunted Houses for 21 years, It took hurting my spine to retire me. Anyways The Classic and cartoons Peter was my favorite. And this Phoebe just was the heart of this film. What makes this better than the 2016 was the tone and added to the greatness that the original created rather than trying to replace it. Harold Ramis would be proud of this. I think It can keep going but make sure whatever that they do keep it scary, funny and full of heart I think Slimer should return. If they don't do a film do a series building up to a next film. Heck bring the Extreme Ghostbusters cartoon characters show up.
Don't feel bad about crying when you saw the 'For Harold'. I saw this in theaters on opening day and literally EVERYONE in there shed a tear there too. Myself included. And billions of more tears around the world.
I like how they brought back much of the original atmospheric score from the first movie, sound effects. That's what made it feel like a Ghostbusters movie
The sound design is integral to the GB franchise, almost like it’s a character in its own right, and the Xbox video game also used a lot of the sound design as well, that and the original cast lending their voices to the characters… I believe the GB Game was Harold Ramis’ last official appearance as Egon before his passing.
Saw it three times in theaters and cried all three times. Hell, I teared up while watching you guys watching it. Phoebe and Podcast were my favorite new characters, and Ray will always be my favorite OG ‘buster.
As a kid born in back in 1982 I would watch ghostbusters everyday. This movies 🎥 was handled with respect and class. The ending will make any fan teary eyed.
Not only is this the best way to pass the torch, this and Ghostbusters: the Videogame are true love letters to fans of the first two films; this also properly respects what came before it, unlike the 2016 reboot
Gary and Phoebe are my favorite new characters. Venkmann and Egon are my favorite O.G Ghostbusters (so, yeah, Afterlife hit hard, but I loved it). Yeah, I wouldn't be up for a Vigo return. We need a brand new villain for the next Ghostbusters.
Think Jason used Gozer as a good excuse as to WHY Egon did what he did and why the original three showed back up. Even Venkman and Winston wanted to finish what they started 30 years ago. But yeah lets not end up like Batman with the Joker showing up every single time.
i waited 30 years, we waited 30 years....when the spectral hand showed up to steady phoebe's wand, the waterworks started. Seeing your heroes finally back together again after 3 decades is surreal. Harold, you will be missed, we love you so much!
While I have a few minor gripes with this movie, I'm glad I saw it and will be adding it to my library soon enough. It's a worthy follow-up to the original duology. I'm especially glad I saw it in the theatre, since when the theme started playing over the credits, the entire audience was singing it, myself included. Great movie-going experience achieved.
@You, Me, & The Movies - Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is the next movie coming out. It releases in March.. Theres a trailer for it available on youtube.
Grew up with Ghostbusters and saw this one two weeks ago myself. I really liked it for the respect it had towards what the original Ghostbusters stood for without being 100% focused on nostalgia alone.
A good send off to Harold. It made me tear up at the end. Bob Gunton, the actor who played the warden in "The Shawshank Redemption," was the body double for Egon.
18:13 _"Actually, it might've been barley."_ It was. 31:00 _"Is that Olivia Wilde?"_ Indeed, it is. I'm not sure whether I should be impressed or disappointed that that wasn't immediately obvious to me when I saw this in my local theater.
FYI, Ghost Corps was established in 2015 or 2016 ahead of the 2016 movie. When there are no movies in the works, the company is responsible for all of the merchandise.
Why do I tear up every time I see Igon's ghost appearing to help Pheobe and then fighting alongside the 3 guys again? I'm a 51 year old man, but apparently also a little girl.
This was the movie we were asking for in 2016. I’m so glad that Phoebe is our main character because it completely destroys the argument that we didn’t like 2016 because “we just hate women”. No. We didn’t like it because it wasn’t funny. I think Podcast is my favorite of the new Ghostbusters because he is literally a baby version of Ray. So enthusiastic and friendly. But they were all wonderful. Excellent film. It only gets better every time I see it, and I cry harder every time I see the ending. LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!
EDIT: FINALLY saw this movie. Somehow managed to have nothing spoiled. And I LOVED it. 32:27 the amazing disappearing/reappearing corn field. They keep showing the house alone in a giant field. Everyone says, “dirt farmer”. Then in the moments they’re fighting ghosts (opening & ending), there’s a giant corn field in front of their front door.
Here's something. The two people in the scene at 8:40 are married in real life despite the fact they look like they're a generation apart. It's actually a mere 15 years.
If it hasn't been mentioned already, the Director of the first 2 Ghostbusters movies : Ivan Reitman (father of Jason Reitman) was the body double for Egon's ghost and photos were used with permission of Harold's family.
Fun Fact: Actor Bob Gunton (Shawshank Redemption/ The warden) played the physical Egon but the special effects made a digital facial effect over Bob's face. They used the old footage from pt2 and aged the face. When they do the box set, they should pay respect to the very recent loss of Ivan Reitman.
The ending is imo the most iconic ending ever in cinema history..i know thats a crazy thing to say.. but it was iconic... and will never be done again with such respect and love... it was my cinema moment of the past 39 years of my life...
Hi Dorothy, I'm really happy that you and Randy watched this together. Your reactions were all that I expected them to be and more. That scene with Egon's ghost got me too. Ghostbusters: Afterlife rounded Egon's character arc off perfectly. I loved all of the call-backs to the original. For as well loved movies that the original 2 were, this IS the Ghostbusters 'requel' the fans have been waiting for. When I saw this at the cinema I revisited my childhood all over again. in the first scene in the farmhouse I noticed the symmetrical-book-stacks immediately and knew that it was haunted. I really think that McKenna Grace was the perfect child-actor for her role, and her comedic timing was on-point. I loved what Podcast's character added to the movie. McKenna Grace I feel is going to build on the success she's already had from 'The Haunting of Hill House', 'Annabelle Comes Home', and 'Malignant' to become a staple of horror movie acting. She's definitely got the stuff. Oh, from what I remember of the Bluray extra features, that condescending female cop who was stood behind the desk in the police station, is Dan Aykroyd's real-life daughter. Plus Harold Ramis' daughter was brought to the set one day by Jason Reitman, she said that she'd never processed just how much her father meant to her, and how much she missed him, until one day behind the scenes, she put his proton pack on, and started to well-up in tears. She said that the character Egon wasn't the whole of her father, but it felt special to have that one last connection with him. Yep, looks like there's gonna be more Ghostbusters with that open-ending and those mid-credit and post-credit scenes, and Dan Aykroyd is enthusiastic about pursuing more with this new cast and characters. He wrote the originals, and he co-wrote Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Hope that extra info gives you a bit of a buzz.
This Movie was a PERFECT Homage to Ghostbusters and a Touching Tribute to the Wonderful Harold Ramis. The Only Missing Piece was the Final Cast Member, Rick Moranis.
Mrs. movie's face when she sees the stay puft minis!😂 priceless! Don't worry, Mrs Movies, the last scene with Egon got me too, a great, fitting, beautiful scene.
That's one of the things I disliked about 2016's. They really forced the jokes too much. And ran them way too long, they wasted way too much time trying to give their jokes traction, but it really just rubbed you the wrong way.
The team behind 2016 misunderstood Ghostbusters. They thought it's a comedy franchise, not a light horror with comedic elements. So, they crammed in filthy jokes and slapstick humor. A lot of Afterlife's detractors also focused on comedy, saying the film "isn't funny" and "takes itself too seriously" for a Ghostbusters movie. They obviously don't understand that half the humor in the original films comes entirely from Bill Murray's ad-libs.
I was amazed when Egon showed up. When a new movie comes out that I want to watch, I avoid all the reviews so I had no idea they had done that for Harold. It was a beautiful memorial to him. In the original two I don't know if I had one favorite. I enjoyed both Bill and Harold's characters. In this one I have to say Paul was my favorite, just because I enjoy his constant fumbling in his roles.
Favorite original Ghostbuster was Egon. Favorite new Ghostbusster is Phoebe. Nerds are punk I definitely want to see the franchise continued. Ernie Hudson has said he'd love to be the Nick Fury of the franchise, and I think he deserves it considering how good he's been to the fans through the years
Saw the behind the scenes specials on this. Harold was brought back as Egon through one body double for most of it. BUT in particular when seen with the 3 original Ghostbusters, Ivan Reitman the director / writer of the previous 2, stepped into the suit to be with the guys, helping add to the "old friend" feel for them.

Saw it three times in theaters and cried all three times. Hell, I teared up while watching you guys watching it. Phoebe and Podcast were my favorite new characters, and Ray will always be my favorite OG ‘buster.
The next Ghostbusters movie will hit theaters on Dec. 20, 2023. The sequel is a follow-up to director Jason Reitman's Ghostbusters: Afterlife,
As a kid born in back in 1982 I would watch ghostbusters everyday. This movies 🎥 was handled with respect and class.
The ending will make any fan teary eyed.
Yep. I cried too.
it hits anyone who has lost a parent and wasnt able to say good bye one last time.
Rip to Ivan Rittman who passed away at the age of 75. His son will now be carrying on his legacy. Hope you stayed for the two end credit scenes.
RIP to Ivan. Glad he got to see his son carry on his Ghostbuster legacy before he passed. The two end credit scenes are in our reaction :)
All the other cars on the farm were from the same year/manufacturer as Ecto-1. Egon was cannibalizing them to keep the old girl up.
Him: "Paul Rudd s in it. Who is...both of our free passes."
Her: "Yup!"
Me: (raised eyebrow)
Going brokeback?
If you don't shed at least one tear at the end you're dead inside. They knocked it out of the park with this movie!
A great sequel. So nostalgic.
The guy who played egon was the guy who played the warden in shawshank
I had the same reaction as the Mrs.
The car chase is so cool!
The mini marshmallows are soooo cute!
Egon's ghost 🥲
i waited 30 years, we waited 30 years....when the spectral hand showed up to steady phoebe's wand, the waterworks started. Seeing your heroes finally back together again after 3 decades is surreal. Harold, you will be missed, we love you so much!
I really liked this movie. Thought the most unbelievable thing about it was how empty, and clean, that Wal-Mart was. :)
Yeah Wal-Marts are never empty.
Depends when you shop. Before COVID, when stores were open 24 hours, I'd go in at 3 or 4 in the morning, and they were usually pretty empty.
@@jamesoblivion fair enough, in my city they have never been empty. Even during the pandemic. At any hour.
and that the grills could be turned on
It also coulda been empty cuz it was overrun with tiny walking marshmallow men and a giant devil dog lol
RIP and long live Harold Ramis (November 21, 1944 - February 24, 2014), aged 69
You will always be remembered as a legend.
I wouldn't mind that either
The double for Egon was Bob Gunton, the guy who played the warden in The Shawshank Redemption.
@You, Me, & The Movies - Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is the next movie coming out. It releases in March.. Theres a trailer for it available on youtube.
This is a great movie. Fun, hits all the beats, and leaves you wanting more.
Chefs kiss
Grew up with Ghostbusters and saw this one two weeks ago myself. I really liked it for the respect it had towards what the original Ghostbusters stood for without being 100% focused on nostalgia alone.
i was born in 1990 but grew up with a lot of ghostbusters stuff
True words doctor
A good send off to Harold. It made me tear up at the end. Bob Gunton, the actor who played the warden in "The Shawshank Redemption," was the body double for Egon.
Yes, Egon had someone checking on him. Janine... remember in the first movie when he came out from under her desk?
18:13 _"Actually, it might've been barley."_ It was.
31:00 _"Is that Olivia Wilde?"_ Indeed, it is. I'm not sure whether I should be impressed or disappointed that that wasn't immediately obvious to me when I saw this in my local theater.
Olivia, along with Paul Rudd, was in Harold Ramis' last directorial film, "Year One", with Jack Black and Michael Cera.
I got so emotional towards the ending. This is my freaking childhood.
Oh certaily give us more of this crew! I could never choose a favorite, originals or new. I just hope we get to see more of everyone.
Skippy! Popcorn! Ghostbusters! RIP Harold..... Let's get it!😎🍻🍷🚬👍👀💕
Hi Dorothy, I'm really happy that you and Randy watched this together.
I think this movie has a bit of a Goonies vibe along with all the ghost buster 80s nostalgia.
Mrs. movie's face when she sees the stay puft minis!😂 priceless! Don't worry, Mrs Movies, the last scene with Egon got me too, a great, fitting, beautiful scene.
I liked the dad jokes in this movie alot better than the attempted jokes in GB 2016.
When Egon and Phebie did the father/son Kamehameha, and the little baby marshmallows did the grimelins on the equipment. Absolutely gold!
Sándor (pronunced Shandor) is actually a Hungarian first name; the Hungarian version of Alexander. The more you know.
no reason to feel embarassed about the 'need to drink water' at the end. The end sequence brings tears to me everytime.
I was crying seeing Harold Ramis as Egon Spengler and Ghostbusters afterlife was fantastic
The new Slimer is based on a tardigrade, a tiny Earth animal that can survive in space and decades of frozen hibernation.
The only reason That this is my favorite ghostbusters movie is because the baby stay puff marshmallow scene!!
@24:23 - 24:55 I like how the visual effects were done in a way that mimicked the original Ghostbusters visuals.
a ''warm hand off'' sounds like extras you get at a dodgy masseuse 🤣 might want to rethink that expression.
Favorite original Ghostbuster was Egon. Favorite new Ghostbusster is Phoebe. Nerds are punk
I definitely want to see the franchise continued. Ernie Hudson has said he'd love to be the Nick Fury of the franchise, and I think he deserves it considering how good he's been to the fans through the years
End gets me everytime, just got me again watching it with you guys
Saw the behind the scenes specials on this. Harold was brought back as Egon through one body double for most of it. BUT in particular when seen with the 3 original Ghostbusters, Ivan Reitman the director / writer of the previous 2, stepped into the suit to be with the guys, helping add to the "old friend" feel for them.
Ernie Hudson proving once and for all that "Black don't crack." The guy looks just like he did in the 80's!
