Follow me as I walk the entirety of Charles Street in the Greenwich Village.
    From Wikipedia:
"Charles Street is a street in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. It runs east to west from Greenwich Avenue to West Street. The street was named after Charles Christopher Amos, who owned the parcel the street passed through. Amos is also the namesake of Christopher Street, two blocks to the south, and the former Amos Street, which is now West 10th Street. Charles Lane is a one-block alley located between Charles and Perry Streets and Washington and West Streets. From 1866 to 1936, the section of Charles Street between Bleecker Street and West 4th Street was called Van Ness (sometimes Van Nest) Place after a farm, owned by the Van Ness family, which had occupied the square bounded by Bleecker, West 4th, Charles and Perry Streets until 1865.
Most of Charles Street - from Greenwich Avenue to Washington Street - is part of the Greenwich Village Historic District and Extensions, including the 1834 Federal style house at 131 Charles Street, which is both a New York City landmark (1966) and listed on the National Register of Historic Places (1972). Outside the historic district, but a designated city landmark (2007), is 159 Charles Street, the sole survivor of nine Greek revival houses built c.1838 at the former location of Newgate Prison.
Other buildings of note on Charles Street include the postmodern Memphis Downtown apartments at No. 140, designed by Rothzeid, Kaiserman, Thomson & Bee and completed in 1986; an eight-floor 2007 "glass box" apartment building at No. 163, designed by Daniel Goldner; Richard Meier's sixteen-story 165 Charles Street (2006), the third of a trio which includes 173 and 176 Perry Street, all of them glass boxes strung side-by-side along West Street; the 1930 ten-story Greenwich Towers at 726 Greenwich Street, which takes up the block of Greenwich Street between Charles and Perry Streets; and the 1840 brick row houses at 40, 50, and 52-54 Charles, which have been converted to studios.
No. 31 Charles Street, the Carolus Apartments, marks the former location of the Charles Street Presbyterian Church, which was founded in 1844 as the Third Associate Presbyterian Church.

You finally made it to Charles Ln, Actionkid....great video ...the apartments along West St and neighboring streets go for $1,000,000 PLUS...the West Village is expensive. You passed the NYC Police Dept BOMB SQUAD. on Charles St. Keep up the great work.

@D B Not altogether true , DB. If you check out www.zillow.com there are apartments in the West Village for even less than $1 million. However, you're right about general pricing...big bucks for large apartments..

There are a lot of subway stations that need a reparation / remodelation urgently, they're very old, in bad conditions and dirty. New York is a rich city and very touristic so the authorities should focus on that aspect which is very important, not only remodeling/restoring the stations which are in wealthy areas of Manhattan.

What a great job they did with that pier. In the 1950's the west side piers handled many ocean liners which was the main means of transportation to Europe and other locales before air travel become dominant. The ocean liner piers were farther north, (pier 89, 88, 90). I remember back then if a ship was ready to leave you could spend a couple of hours on board by paying 50 cents to the longshoremans fund. Obviously you had to leave before the ship left.

I came to this great country in March of 1952 by ship, the Ile de France, landing at pier 46 after being seasick for seven agonizing days. It seems like yesterday. I was eight-years-young then and rooted for the Brooklyn Dodgers. This video is precious to me for many reasons. I worked in the Chelsea-area, 14th-29th Streets, on the West-side, for twenty-years, mostly as an NYPD detective from 1965-1985. The piers in that precinct were know as, " the meat market" and processed beef for sale to all. An area not very desireable back then. Now it is much different and high-priced. This video is much like the Chelsea area, with similar buildings, as I remember them.
Thank you for bringing this video to the world so we can all see a part of lower Manhattan of today. Mike (Michel)

@@BradThePitts from wikipedia "The design of the three-story brick, single-family houses[2] is unusual, in that they are set back from the street, and all have front and side yards - an oddity in Manhattan - as well as wooden porches. The first group of houses, numbers 8 through 22, comprises freestanding pairs, while the remainder, numbers 24 through 60, are connected together at the rear.[1]"

New York was once a place we could afford. An author who really got it right was Donald Westlake with his Dortmunder stories.
Remembering friends who bought a brownstone on Charles for $69,000 back in the 1970s. Both worked to pay the hefty mortgage. The second floor is the drawing room floor , and my friend sat looking out at the London plane tree in its tiny square. Every time dog walkers looked as if they might pause, she rapped loudly on the glass..

Very interesting and enjoyable. I need to get to NYC, it's been a few years. I especially liked this on Charles Street as the night before last we had dinner at our very good friends down here in South Florida who around ten years ago sold their townhouse on Charles Street to the actress Hilary Swank. If you can't be wealthy, I guess it's good to have wealthy friends lol. Anyway, very enjoyable and nicely done. We'll check out your others. Oh by the way it took me a few minutes to realize the Nelson Sullivan you were talking about, I always enjoy watching his old videos on RUclips.

In the 1970's the elderly proprietor of a Locksmith shop on Hudson Street, a lifelong neighborhood resident, told me that Charles Lane was formerly known as "Pig Alley" and that the pigs were driven from their holding pens down the lane to the slaughterhouse that then existed on the pier. He didn't live to see the final iteration shown in your video - but he could see it coming.

As you walk to the end of the pier, it is a shocking realization that once a great ship would have been docked here, with hundreds of stevedores loading or unloading, passengers and shipping.
Pier 90 was the Cunard pier.
