I came here from Twitter from a guy talking about the tornado. I had to look. I thought it was a fire smoke after looking at it but the comments say it was a 🌪️ lol
Kevin Lepage just loves to somehow find a way to be in the 500 with a different ride each time in dramatic fashion...yet people mostly remember for his derp moment in the one Nationwide Talladega race. And yeah, Kirk Shelmadine being in...still blows my mind somehow. BY TIME, mind you, too.
I think this was the only time in the season where NBC/TNT used the Evernham font on the 10 in the starting line-up graphics. The rest of the season they used the MBV from 2005.
@Dylan. Kirk didn't know until a half hour after the race was over. He was packing up for home until an official told him. The hilarious part was where he finished in the 500.
Well, if Gatorade didn't pay that extra TV money, then they don't get mentioned by name, so the Broadcasters have to dance around it. This kind of thing became more widespread with the 2007-2014 TV contracts. On top of paying to sponsor the actual race, the race sponsor would have to fork over addition money in order to get mentioned by name and have their logo shown on-screen. I remember a LOT of Busch/Nationwide/Xfinity races on ESPN where the graphics would say "NASCAR Busch Series Race at Charlotte" rather than the "Dollar General 300".
Dave Daniel Was the same in 2002. 2004 was the only year Gatorade paid Turner Sports for the TV time. 2002 and 2006 it was "Daytona 500 Qualifying Races"
Kirk Shelmerdine is one of my favorite underdog drivers of all time.
Came here from the video about times Daytona had close calls with tornadoes. I never knew about this before.
Some of this racing was incredible and Bill Weber is talking like he's describing what he had for breakfast.
What I want to know is how the hell was it decided that Bill Weber was better in the booth than Allen Bestwick?
Supposedly Alan butted heads with someone, so he got demoted and Bill got promoted
Well guess what they both still work with each other and Alan is lead announcer in the both for NBC and Weber is announcing on Pit Row

20:32-20:36 you could see a tornado but nascar and the tv people never noticed it
that's so dangerous with them racing and not think about the drivers and spectators
Do not caution yellow caution out so official stand flag start/finish they are not see where is tornadoes too close tracks
WOW! Thats incredible.

If you listen really closely, you can hear Chad Chaffins tire blow and his 92 Chevy hit the wall
nascarfan88ta I heard that POP
holy shit
At 18:42 though about 21:00 you can see a tornado in the background of some shots.
Damn those cars look outstanding. Sound great too!.

2:32:32 the beginning of an abysmal career by JJ Yeley lol

Holy shit 20th!
21:00 super interesting to see Cope running the Amp sponsor before Jr did.
Lepage has that sponsor not Cope
Kevin Lepage is in a freaking 05 Ford Taurus. I never noticed that.
And he qualified for the first 4 or 5 races of the season
it was rare to see in 2006, kirk shelmerdine also drove an ‘05 chevy aswell.
Thanks a lot for posting this bro!
"AND SKINNER BEATS HIM TO THE LINE! BY A FENDER!" And it dont mean squat
is it me or did it feel like TNT almost went out of their way to avoid saying Gatorade Duels?

Oh, I've seen it around forever, I just felt like it was CONSTANT once we got into the 2000's lol.
If the sponsor doesn’t pay the TV network for the sponsorship, TV is only required to say the race name once an hour.
Shame on them for not interviewing Shelmerdine.
start at 7:59
Was rooting for Scott Riggs to make the show, but crappy pit stop ruined that
Why didn’t they use fuel at Daytona
