Most of those honda tanks have a screwin pre-filter where the gas fitting is, it is a bit awkward sometimes taking those 4 bolts that hold the tank off but it is worth cleaning it. It is a synthetic mesh filter like those found on petcocks of motorcycles. If it is too messy cut it off and put an inline filter between tank and carb.

When customers brings me a aftermarket carb and give them credit of 2 dallor for the oem carbs and rebuild them during winter months
