I have to say that I followed your RUclips video on the Husqvarna self-propelled lawn Mower to the tee. You are an excellent small engine repair person. I did everything you recommended and followed your video. I could not start my lawnmower for various reasons. I must’ve pulled that cord over 100 times. I even tried carburetor cleaner spraying from the outside and it would only start for two or three seconds. After I completed your overhaul, the engine started on the first pull. I have to give you five stars on this video.

You videos are wonderful. I love that you take your time, explain everything well and don't speed through, or skip anything. You're the best. Thank you so much.
Water in the Fuel, dirty Carb, Airfilter Oily... This Mower had no Chance to run... Nice Vid! Lots of good info to use on ya own machine. Awesome Content on this Channel!
I have this exact carb and air box with the auto choke system on a LC221RH Husqy that was given to me by a friend who couldn't get it running about 2 years ago and I can't get it to start with anything other than a shot of carb cleaner directly into the air box. Kicks on and sounds perfect but immediately shuts off. I have taken apart the carb and cleaned it with my very limited knowledge and put it all back together only to be met with the exact same result. Now that I've watched your incredibly thorough walk-through of this engine, I will be trying again but this time removing the jets that I was afraid to touch, and making sure all the passageways are clear! Thank you so much for the extraordinarily helpful video. I also told my wife I need an ultrasonic cleaner, so I'll try that as well. Thanks again! David.
Thanks for watching. Pay special attention to the idle circuit, located under a screw on the top of the carb. There are two versions, both in which you must remove the idle speed screw to remove the jet screw. The one with the metal idle speed screw has a metal JIS (similar to a Phillips screw) and the brass jet underneath is not removable. The other with a plastic idle speed screw has a removable idle jet. It too is plastic and is removed by gently prying up. Make sure the o-ring is in good shape and the passages are clear. Avoid carb spray on the rubber bits. Brake parts cleaner is less aggressive. Hope this helps. An ultrasonic cleaner is less expensive than a new mower, considering there are so few mowers of a decent quality these days. Besides, she can clean all kinds of things like jewelry :) Cheers!
I'm an auto by trade, and I hate working on these small engines, but I did learn a few things for your video like the filter tube in the fuel tank and the line. Thanks for posting this!!!
Really appreciated your reply to Pete Malone on the RPM adjustment. I've been trying to figure out where and how to tweak the RPM and the correct operating RPM to set to. Your video was a real benefit to me because of the excellent video. My air butterfly valve jumped its mechanical stop and I needed to see the correct travel of the valve. I also liked your breaking the video into segments and the threaded rods for reassembly. It was suburb, well thought out, and full of really good helps and tips. I immediately stopped and made the rods before going on to ease the valve back to proper operation. Thanks much. I'll be looking up your other videos. I am a retired Field Service Engineer working on every kind of hospital Radiology equipment. I know how to fix things I'm not familiar with and finding your video was a treasure. I don't usually comment, but I had to make this comment to you. Thanks again.
Your work is thorough, meticulously and logically done. I feel inspired to tackle my Craftsman 21” self propelled mower with a Honda engine. This is the one that had a severe bent area on one end of the blade. I’ve got a new blade and when I feel up to it will install it. I hope that there is no fatal damage to the crankshaft. I think the carburetor will have to be cleaned and I don’t have a lot of the tools and especially the 100 mm bolts to hold the gaskets in place during disassembly. That’s my biggest concern. Thank you.
I would like to say that your video is by far one of the best husk of honor all will drive best detailed videos I loved the way you took your time and care and very very carefully worked and videotaped every step-by-step by step with the utmost respect to the workmanship as a workmanship as a mechanic you are top notch I don't even know how to put it into words but you make someone like myself who knows nothing about lawn mowers feel like a pro thank you For your video thank you for your time and thank you for all your knowledge
That was a nasty one! I think your practice of putting a little WD40 on your gaskets, etc. is a good one. We always used a little film of oil on those paper or fibre type gaskets in refrigeration work to help them seal better. I will definitely work on making up those 4" long M6 rods for future use as well. Good idea! I also bought some magnetic spark plug sockets after seeing one of your videos as well. Your videos are always very clear and concise. The information is delivered in a very professional manner! Lots of helpful tips!
Very good video. I successfully cleaned carb and lines. On the studs to reassemble, I didn’t have the correct length bolts to make the guides so I trimmed down some wooden chop sticks from a take away place. Worked fine. I also siliconed as many gaskets in place as possible not covering any holes. One thing on reassembly is this video didn’t mention which way the emulsion tube went. I checked another video of yours to get the answer. The tip on the fuel screen was terrific. Thanks for the help.
You know your stuff well, and you explain things in a way that's both interesting and informative. Well filmed as well. One of the best how-to videos I've seen on You-Tube by far. Well done!
Hi Lawnmower Lady! Your videos have helped me out a lot! The metal studs is a great idea. My Craftsman GCV190 had a surging problem. Idle circuit jet was clogged. Thank you for making these videos!
Thanks for watching Mr Derek! I wish I could take credit for the original idea. Honda actually makes this "tool" It's very pricey, so I fabricated my own. Cheers!
I thought my carburetor was dirty, but wow, lol, that one was just awful! Excellent tutorial and a great help to those of us do-it-yourselfers, thanks very much!
Awesome how to video Stella!. Thanks for sharing . Ive seen these machines a few times in my shop . Lol hope all is well take care and stay safe out their ...
Great all-around step by step, and you present it all so clearly! I wish you’d been more specific about how you set rpm. Low revs and loping on a 160 is what brought me to view this video, so if you can reply to the question, it’s a big help. I’ll go back and see if I can get the gist of what you were doing to check and adjust rpm. Many Thanks!!
Thanks for watching Mr Pete! generally speaking, the other end of governor return spring is attached to a fixed (but bendable) point. If you increase tension on the spring, the RPM increases. I hope this helps.
Using the M6 x 1.00 threaded rods to maintain alignment of the parts and gaskets is genius! Well done. Possibly, I have a tip that you might find useful. Before you unscrew the main jet, insert a piece of wire (I use a straightened paper clip) into the hole in the side of the main jet housing. (I have also used a plastic toothpick to do this also works well.) Keeping slight pressure on the jet with this wire and prying upwards as the jet loosens from its threads as you unscrew the jet will make it much easier to remove the jet. No tapping or pounding will be necessary. Thanks for the video. 👍👍
My Hoosk AWD quit pulling itself. I tried to just push it and it started making a loud noise. Stopped it right there and looking for ways to repair. That is how I wound up coming here. This video is excellent. Makes me almost want to clean the carburetor during my downtime (not)... Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Am subscribing and looking for your advice on my drive problem, before I possibly wind up taking it to a shop.
Oh no! Definitely check under the deck to make sure that belt is not jammed up. Could be a seized drive pulley, or some obstruction, twig, branch, pinecone, etc., stopping the belt. You should be able to pull on the belt easily, and see the wheels turning. Lift the drive wheels off the ground, pull the spark plug and see if everything turns easily. Hope this helps. I appreciate you watching.
Keeps me from having to empty out the entire reservoir. I use different cleaning solutions, and often use a coffee filter to strain out the solids, and reuse the same solution over and over.
Excellent detail and tips as you go. Great video! And I would never think of tackling something like this. But so interesting to watch. Thank you! I learn something with every video.
Those 4 inch threaded studs are the trick! I did this without them, and lining up the heat shield, carb and air cleaner, without the ability to actually see anything, was a nightmare.
First of all great job on video and service your providing, I have the exact same mower, and wont start, i bought it new and my daughter used it for about 2 yrs then passed it back to me, i used it for about 2 yrs, then it just wouldn't start, so just before the 4 yr warranty ran out, i took it back to lowes, and they sent it off to some rep shop, they replaced the carb, and changed spark plug and oil, they claim that was poor maintenance, so i had to pay the 125 charge, it ran a few months the winter came and summer came and it worked a few more months, then it just quite starting again,so i removed the carb and it had some water in it, (maybe my fault for not storing it in the garage but i did have a large bucket over the engine), i drained the gas tank and used carb cleaner on the carb and reinstalled it, then it would start but sputter and rpm would raise up then lower, i ran it for an hour or two, just to see if it would clear itself, but then it turned off and would not start, i was disappointed on the 500 dollar Honda engine mower, so i parked it for a year, (compared to my 129 dollar disposable murray mower that was on its 7th yr with no maintenance was still starting on first or second pull) Now Im working on it again, I bought a new carb for it, (to resolve and carb issues) installed it, tank was empty so i put new gas, still wont start, i pulled the spark plug and i get fire, if i sprayed some starter fluid (i heard you shouldn't on lawn mowers), it now starts up for a few 1 or 2 seconds then turns off, i did have to grease the brake cable for it to work, but it was stuck in the run position, and i am using the red can fuel, still wont start, i will clean out the gas tank tomorrow and verify the gas is getting all the way to the carb, im sure some is cause when i had the fuel line removed from the carb, i turned on the fuel line and gas came out of the end, but maybe not enough, I'll check that and the brake line and install another new spark plug tomorrow. any more suggestions?
Still could be residual fuel/water in the very bottom of the tank or fuel lines? Replacement aftermarket carbs can be problematical. I'd go back to the other carb, give it a good clean, paying special attention to the idle jet (the small screw on the top) and replace the brake cable. If it was stuck, it was due to rust from water/rain seeping inside and down the outer cable jacket, I guarantee it will break in the future. I think storing it outside, and prior use of ethanol laced fuel is largely the cause of these problems. Hope you get it sorted. Thanks for watching.
Update: I removed the fuel line from the carb and drained all the fuel from the tank and got about 12oz of fuel even though i thought it was empty from the beginning. There was less than a trace of water, i then removed the tank so i can check the filter and blow out the fuel line, for some reason there was still fuel in the tank, tipping it over and upside down and all around i got about another 4 ounces, 95% of that was water, surprised me, blew out the tank and fuel line and removed carb, removed fuel bowl and it was 100% water, Reinstalled the gas tank and left fuel bowl off and reconnected fuel line, can see fuel coming out of the bottom of the carb, replaced bowl and attempted to start the mower, it started on 2nd pull, that was about 7 hrs ago, for the next hour after that it sometimes had trouble starting, needed 4 or 5 hard pulls, I just went to turn it on, it started on the 1st pull, in conclusion i believe the main issue was water in the tank and carb, after COMPLETELY cleaning fuel system out it works, I will replace the brake cable soon, and i did install a new Honda carb, not an after market so it will be stored it in garage. Thank you very much for the video again,
@@peteg6613 Yay! Glad you got it sorted. If you suspect any more water, let the empty tank sit in the sun for a good afternoon, to ensure all the water has evaporated. Cheers!
Great work Stella 5 years and sounds like it was running just yesterday not missing a beat that Honda engine no skips either lol . I like your idea of the studs to hold the Honda carb it was always tricky to hold everything all at once. Look forward to the next one 🍻
Thank you ,so valuble to me,two outboard motors and a lawn mower ,and cement mixer engine now fixed ,one carb seem now very much like most others, saving much money thanks
What a fantastic job bringing this mower back to life. Great video for people that need help with these problems to watch. I'M loving my Vessel JIS screw divers. Have a great week!!
In watching your video I have the same exact Husqvarna mower. With the same exact Honda engine and I had the same exact carburetor problem. I got it all apart got it all cleaned even let it soak overnight and sea foam. Then cleaned it with gum out and compressed air put it all back together would not run. At that time I opted just to buy a brand new carburetor I put the carburetor on in the morning refill the tank of fresh gas first crank it started right up.
Watching and commenting as i go. Huskavarnaaa. Love it. I gaurentee I would replace the torch plug. LOL For me those Honda carbs and gaskets are, new (my age). Too funny. I use air to mildly pressure tanks to drain. TIP Add a bit of alcohol to the tank to reduce time to dry. Pino Grigio bottles. We have a few of them around here. You are a prof? You could be !!! Pine sol in my Ultra sonic is a great idea. You use the separated system. I dunk my carbs into a full tank of whatever I think s the best. Guitar string brilliant. JIS screwdriver. I as well as you gap every plug as they can be dropped. I knew it would run!! Brilliant video.
Very nice video Ms Stella, step by step clean. Hey I know our English friends in the UK have Bits but i have to wonder if the have those Fiddly Bits. :)
Thanks for the handy tip about making two 6mm x 4.0" slotted studs. made a set makes carb r&r easy... That is why I liked and subscribed... You go girl!
Thanks Mr Tim. I wish it was my idea, but Honda actually sells this "too" for way too much $$. I figured I could make do with something home grown. I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
Very thorough and extremely well done, thank you! The 3rd video I watched on this engine and carb, and the last I need to see! Log splitter will run again today. Subscribed.
@@TheLawnmowerLady After doing this, I do have one question though. When I clean carbs I usually use my torch cleaning kit, but on the jet under the screw, even my smallest in the kit will not go through? Is the guitar string you used smaller than that, or could it just be that clogged? Didn't have any solvent or pinesol so I didn't soak the carb, but everything else was really clean and didn't need it. Just had a little water in the bowl from sitting up a season. I'm a guitar player so I do have some extra stings somewhere...
@@MrCobra762 that was an E string as I recall. It only goes about 1/2 inch (13mm) on the top. You should be able to see the string when inserted in the small hole in the throat of the carb. Hope that helps.
I think those NGK plugs come pregapped at 0.028". Nice use of the studs for reassembly. I don't know why they switched from the stud/nut design to the bolts as they are easier to assemble.
Thanks for watching Mr Al ! I think they always kept the stud/nut design on their commercial mowers. I'm hapy to say they have gone back on their latest HRN line or residential mowers. I hope to have a video about that and other changes out soon. Cheers!
Thank you SO MUCH for this vid, esp the studs. Wish Ida seen this vid 2 days ago bc trying to put everything back together after everything falls off is a royal PITA!! Thank you...going to buy some and slot them myself, now. 🙏
Thanks Mr Mike! I wish I could take credit for the idea. Honda actually makes this same "tool", crazy expensive too. I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
You don't know it yet, but you and I are going to get married!!! Great job on this intricate little project of yours, but would it disappoint you if I told you that you convinced me that it would be a lot easier for me just to get a new lawn mower? But honey, I SWEAR to you----you've inspired me to take much, much better care of the new mower than I ever did with this old mower,, which really isn't that old at all. Sweet Jesus! I have found my muse in you! Merci! Merci!
I have a Husqvarna awd mower with the Honda 190 cc engine just got a bit of information on how fix the no run problem on my poulan xt mower the anti fire silonid had to cut off the plunger she's up and running like I want her to see you later young lady 💐 be safe out there
That is the most thorough and clear explanation I’ve seen to service a lawn mower with a Honda engine. I learned a lot. Thank you for posting this meticulous video!! I never knew about the fuel filter in the gas tank. Where did you get the studs to hold the carburetor in place? Please keep up the good work! 😻🎈😻🎈
my gvc 160 mower has the big metal gasket and after the airbox gasket its a metal plate like 6'' long that goes down the whole side with the parts all built in, i bet if u see one like it you'll know just what im talking about. I did somehow manage to getit back on but needed to take it apart again so i just cut it with an angle grinder and made into a metal gasket(yes i removed the gas tank and put it somewhere else) It was definitely the way to go i shouldve just done that to begin with.
Thanks Ms Inisfad! I do have a video about how to replace a broken cable that sort of touches on it, but my go to lube is Tri-Flo. All the bicycle guys use that to lube brake and gear cables. I realize I have probably been editing out those parts of my video, or I haven't actually edited them for publication.
Thanks, yes. I need to do a video on how to adjust RPM on almost any push mower. I have enough laying around to show almost every one. I appreciate you watching.
Thanks for your kind words. I've been swamped these last few months, and do have many videos in the can. It takes a good bit of time to edit out all the unnecessary parts. I don't want to release videos just for the sake of putting out content, but rather put out well edited video. It's easy to run on off topic, and honestly my videos need a lot of editing, LOL.
Very nice clean up job. I usually add a dab of dielectric grease to the spark plug boot is all you could add to your regimen. Was the blade off on the last mow? I was expecting it to cut a nice pass but didn't look like it did much. Those stud idea was a nice touch for keeping the carb gaskets inline and in order for sure.
Thanks Mr Tim! If you watch any of my other tune-up videos, that is something I always do when I pull a plug. I prolly did that on this one, but I might have cut that out of the final? I did sharpen the blade after the end. I honestly didn't realize how dull it was doing all the other things to bring this back to life. I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
Your videos are great. You break it down with thorough explanation/demonstration. Any chance you have a part # for that gasket between the air box and the carburetor itself? I didn't realize it would be so fragile and it sort of broke/tore in half. I think maybe I shouldn't have sprayed it with carb cleaner and tried to wipe it.
Yep, that carb spray is pretty harsh. I'm a little reluctant to give you a part number. Therevare numerous iterations over the years. The best resource for you is to look up the engine model # (not the mower model #... Unless it's a Honda branded mower, then you do look the mower #... Confusing, I know, sorry). Put that model number on to most any major parts house: partstree, jackssmallengines, repairclinic, etc., to get the exact one you need. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

Wow! Thank you Mr Denny for your kind words. I'm so happy to be able to help. I really appreciate you watching. Cheers!
Thank you Mr Jose! I appreciate your kind words. Cheers!
Thanks for that info. You confirm my theory that seals better. I appreciate you watching Mr Brian! Cheers!
Nice call on the chopsticks. My ex-boyfriend always had some buried under his scooter seat, handy to have around. Thanks for watching. Cheers!

Now mind you I did finally buy some 6mm x1.0 studs and slotted for the next time .
You know your stuff well, and you explain things in a way that's both interesting and informative. Well filmed as well. One of the best how-to videos I've seen on You-Tube by far. Well done!
Much appreciated!
Genius, using the 10mm studs to keep everything aligned. Absolutely helpful. Thank you so much.
I hope it helps you Mr Tom. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Hi Lawnmower Lady! Your videos have helped me out a lot! The metal studs is a great idea. My Craftsman GCV190 had a surging problem. Idle circuit jet was clogged. Thank you for making these videos!
Happy to help. I do appreciate you watching. Cheers!
Great video I love the using the threaded studs too hold the gaskets in place it’s alway been a pain with Hondas
I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
Another great video young lady. Gotta love the apple cider jello. 😉
It's the best Mr Steve! LOL. Thanks for watching!
Awesome how to video Stella!. Thanks for sharing . Ive seen these machines a few times in my shop . Lol hope all is well take care and stay safe out their ...
Thanks for watching Doc! Cheers!
Well done Stella I did the same thing with 2 new bolts to reassemble the carb two great minds think a like
Thanks Mr Hank! 👍
@@TheLawnmowerLady perfect!! Can do!
XO ~ Pete
Nice tip with the threaded studs!
Thanks for watching Mr Michael. Cheers!
Thanks for showing every step of the way. You are amazing!
Thanks for watching. Cheers!
That was impressive. Great job. Love the old school just get your hands in the gas while cleaning with the brush 👍👍
To be honest, I really should don those gloves more often. 😬 Thanks for watching. Cheers!
59 years of mechanic work and only ware gloves while working on hydraulic systems
Hate it on my hands
Very nicely done Stella! I always enjoy your videos. I love how you always make it a point to tech people the right way to do things. Keep it up!
Thanks so much Sgt! I appreciate you supporting my channel. Cheers!
You are a legend a carburettor no longer a mysterious cylinder thing! Thank you
I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
Excellent video. The guide bolts tip makes life really easy.
Yes it does! I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
Thank you for your video, it helped me fix my mower. I didn’t know what and what not to remove on the carburetor. Very informative. 🎉
Happy to help! Thanks for watching. Cheers!
(I have also used a plastic toothpick to do this also works well.)
Keeping slight pressure on the jet with this wire and prying upwards as the jet loosens from its threads as you unscrew the jet will make it much easier to remove the jet. No tapping or pounding will be necessary.
Thanks for the video. 👍👍
Great idea, I actually do that with a small dental pick sometimes. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
I did not know you could put parts in different container in the ultrasonic cleaner. Learn something every day.
Keeps me from having to empty out the entire reservoir. I use different cleaning solutions, and often use a coffee filter to strain out the solids, and reuse the same solution over and over.
@@TheLawnmowerLady what solution do you use?
Most of the time I use Pine-Sol and water, about 1:5 ratio, sometimes vinegar/water, sometimes petrol. Depends on how gummed up the parts are.
@@TheLawnmowerLady my wife uses pinesol to clean so no shortage of that.
Excellent detail and tips as you go. Great video! And I would never think of tackling something like this. But so interesting to watch. Thank you! I learn something with every video.
I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
Those 4 inch threaded studs are the trick! I did this without them, and lining up the heat shield, carb and air cleaner, without the ability to actually see anything, was a nightmare.
Especially the older ones, several more gaskets. A fiddly mess!

Thanks Mr James! I learnt from the master 😆
Great video Stella good clean up on the carb well done 👏👏
Thank you Mr Nev 😁 Cheers!
Nice job and good video! One tip though use either a JIS or electricians screwdriver.
I did! LOL
Glad that worked for you. Cheers!
Thanks Mr Bruce for watching. I appreciate your keen eye. I'll have to try the alcohol thing for those cloudy days. Cheers!
Very nice video Ms Stella, step by step clean. Hey I know our English friends in the UK have Bits but i have to wonder if the have those Fiddly Bits. :)
That too, and dangly if you were watching Conker's live the other night. LOL

Cheers!
Glad it went a spider stella lol great video like the carberator rod tip too
Me too Mr Edward! Not much freaks me out, but spicers do every time! Cheers!
Very thorough and extremely well done, thank you! The 3rd video I watched on this engine and carb, and the last I need to see! Log splitter will run again today. Subscribed.
I appreciate your kind words! Thanks for watching. Cheers!
@@TheLawnmowerLady Yes indeed. Thank you!
Lol Stella - I just love the way you say Husqvarna - spot on there 😂 I just made a video today with your sticker in it. Cheers!
Cheers Mr Anders! I learnt to say it right from all you guys across the pond 😀
Thanks for your teaching im learning a lot keep it up Chris from OHIO gooooooo Buckeyes beat Michigan
Thanks mr Robert!

Full service lets go
Thanks for watching Mr Andrew!
You did an outstanding really good job - so helpful - Thank you
I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
Maybe sometime you can show how you lubricate the cables…..what you use, how you get the oil down the sheath, etc….???
Thanks Ms Inisfad! I do have a video about how to replace a broken cable that sort of touches on it, but my go to lube is Tri-Flo. All the bicycle guys use that to lube brake and gear cables. I realize I have probably been editing out those parts of my video, or I haven't actually edited them for publication.
Excellent video. Thanks for taking the time to explain. Following you now.
Awesome, thank you!
GREAT VIDEO. YOU CERTAINLY KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. THANKS
I appreciate that! Thanks for watching. Cheers!
I’d love to hear more about how you raised the RPM!
Thanks, yes. I need to do a video on how to adjust RPM on almost any push mower. I have enough laying around to show almost every one. I appreciate you watching.
I like your videos how you describe things and how you put things together are you going to have some new ones coming out soon I would like to know
Thanks for your kind words.
