Bethesda should somehow sue themselves for naming a game the exact same title as another game after suing Mojang for “Scrolls” being too similar to “The Elder Scrolls”
Actually they owned the ip at the time and decided to name the game Prey like that because copyright or whatever the correct term is was about to run out. Prey was originally supposed to have another name that can actually still be found in the code or something like that. I agree. Most of the splashes containing notch should be in the game
Yeah I get how someone can have the “say what you want about- “ style of thinking but it is indirectly supporting a person who has shown very problematic views. It’s saying indirectly that their words and actions are okay, which is a problem.
Doing bad things equals like hating minorities means you get consequences for said bad things. I personally appreciated the removal of the splashes and so on, much rather not be reminded of someone that hates my existence by chance every time I load the game.

I even met someone not long ago who didn't knew Notch made Minecraft, but he knew that "Notch is problematic". Yeah, as a russian I can admit that mojang did it. It wasn`t software leaving my country, wasn`t many popular shops, wasn`t half of my friends losing jobs. Nah, it was the impossibility of seeing "Привет, Россия!" in my game that made me think it`s all that. Yeah, mojang totally nailed it.
Nothing special tbh, they were just showing solidarity with the Ukrainians. Ofc, loosing job is bad, but not as bad as loosing your life.

Also there is nothing controversial about it, America started the war in Ukraine back in 2014 when they did a coup and replaced all the top seated politicians. So why not remove all American references. Microsoft is evil.

My theory/hc: "Undocumented" referred to the source code. One guy at Mojang decided to go in and document every part of the source. After months (or more likely: years), they let him proudly remove the splash.
It could, alternatively, refer to how many mechanics in Minecraft are vague and undiscoverable, with no official documentation. You have to go to a 3rd party wiki to find out they even exist and how to do them (for example, building a conduit is not something you would ever discover how to do except maybe by sheer mistake/coincidence).

You see, the reason why they removed it is undocumented.
The removal of the splash text "Undocumented!" was truly undocumented.

I think some of them should stay in the game, like some notch references and the Привет Россия, I mean yes its a bit controversial because of the current situation but it's not like the splash text is showing support to the war or something. This is especially critical when the same company has a whole China edition. So yes don't get why those were removed.
Right? I hate that they removed the Привет Россия just because of war. It's just a splash in minecraft. I get angry every time people do similar things, makes me think of all the people in Russia who have nothing to do with current situation but get all the hate and no sympathy from others. It's not like ALL Russian people wanted this war, hell, I bet almost none of them wanted it but they can't do anything. It's not like they can do much in that situation with their president. Sad

Removing it is definitely much more controversial that keeping it. If they kept it, i'm sure no one would even care, besides some insignificant minorities of people with radical views. When they removed it, it is suddenly become a much bigger debate.
As for Undocumented, Mojang had taken steps to make the game's source code more easily accessible, so that may be related.
I guess the splash "Undocumented!" was a joke about when Notch initially developed the game he didn't create a proper manual. But by that time, the game was pretty extensively documented. Something professional software developers would take pride in. I have also seen people talking about it being because of "Undocumented" immigrants which also isn't entirely implausible.
I just find it funny that the reason for the removal of "Undocumented" is undocumented
i reckon it is a reference to that, but removed it due to its relation to undocumented refugees
Yeah my first thought was that it could be related to immigrants.
How would it be related to immigrants? It was made in Sweden. It doesn't make sense for a connection to jump from Swedish building sandbox game to immigration in a country halfway across the world on a different continent a whole ocean away.
@@lapiswolf2780 It's mainly sold in America and they would have a public relations team looking for anything that could be construed as offensive.
I'm okay with them trying to make the game's UI more family friendly but again, the censorship of words in servers should be regulated by the server staff, not Microsoft.
Censorship like this exists on bedrock because of rules that Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo all have about user generated content on their platforms. If Minecraft wants to remain on those platforms, it unfortunately needs to have this

Honestly I think making the game more family friendly by removing certain splash texts is completely unnecessary as children won't tend to get the joke or reference anyway. Plenty of games have quiet jokes that adults get immediately yet doesn't make the game any less family friendly
Not only games, it's literally how the popular kids shows on TV were written for the longest time, so adults watching along could at least enjoy a few jokes meant for them, while the kid wouldn't get them. These older splash text lines absolutely followed that model (the Monty Python example was a good one).
I didn't even think about "switches and ores" being potentially offensive until FitMC brought it up. There's no way any child will understand it if it appears as a seemingly innocent splash message.
Zelda BoTW is exactly like this
How many Pokedex entries reference deaþ? And þat's not counting þe dead Marowak in þe first gen or þe girl who's heavily implied to be dead in gen 5. There are far worse jokes involving Tits than this.
It's a Monty Python reference, saying when his boy marries he'll get "huge tracts of land", referring to the land he inherits, as well his new wife's breasts
@@vivianliu6094 Same. And I never considered "ores and switches" was a play on words until they removed it. Them removing it made me (and possibly many others) realise it meant something else entirely.
With a few years in the software industry, I’m pretty sure any that are removed for no reason is because a manager with a little power had things removed just because they didn’t get it and thought that was reason enough. But, I don’t really care if any removals are justified or not. It’s just a fun little feature, and I think ideally most of them would be retired as they age and as new ones are added.
I like the idea of keeping old references even if most don’t get them anymore. It’s fun to see something you don’t understand and research it’s origins.
Or instead of retiring older splashes, perhaps implement a system to make them more rare - maintaining these snippets of the game’s history while also effectively updating the pool.

I am okay with making the main face of the game more family friendly. What I do not want is for individual third party non-realms servers to be told they must be family friendly. There's features for parental locking, so they should be utilized. There can exist both family friendly servers and adult servers and one can easily find both. If parental locking exists, then the said account could not connect to adult rated servers. I want Minecraft to be for everybody, truly, not just for kids. There are possibly as many adults playing Minecraft as there are kids. The approach can be that these are third party servers unaffiliated with Mojang or Microsoft, therefore it does not represent their family friendly approach and you are entering at your own risk (Similar to the previous message we had before). The splashes being removed are not a problem I don't think, and they've added plenty others in their place.

I don't like that they removed all references to Notch from the game. The creator of Minecraft deserves some recognition
Di$ney has done the same thing to George Lucas and Star Wars. This is what giant companies love to do, they buy someone's product and then scrub said product of said creator and ignore their wishes. but to be fair notch did act kind of like an @ss after he got his billions. dude definitely contributing to Microsoft and Mojang hating him but it's still not right what they did.
@@mycelia_ow he's not, you're just SJW
@@mycelia_ow as much as I hate Disney and their Star Wars stuff, I'd also argue that fans contributed to Lucas's exclusion from the franchise. Remember how before the sequels came out, George Lucas was bullied and harrassed simply because people at the time hated the prequels. I clearly remember people saying that they wish he has nothing to do Star Wars ever again. Be careful what you wish for I guess.
A great video! Good job FitMC, I love watching your videos.
You unlocked many childhood memories with the Bomberman 64 tracks!
Honestly I just think that it's really interesting how much Minecraft has changed since the acquisition by Microsoft. I feel like it would be a very different game had Notch not sold it. It went from an unfinished game advertised on the message board of a fringe internet forum site (for the time 4chan was definitely considered fringe) to the most downloaded video game in history, and there were so many people that have contributed to the continual development of this game since its inception. I think that's what makes Minecraft stand out, that it's a community built game, and it's cool to see how Mojang have gone about continuing that legacy, for better or for worse.
Minecraft would stand out regardless of who has worked on it. The initial concept and gameplay were so profound. Minecraft is the king of voxel games for a reason.
Uh yeah Minecraft already blew up before Microsoft. Stop acting like Microsoft is the saving grace when they have made their community dip a lot
I was one of the first million buyers... no, Microsoft has contributed very little. (Also bedrock is shit)

Really hate when devs make stuff "family friendly", the game gets ruined for the sake of kids and their bitchy parents. It's the parent's job to monitor their children, if something isn't kid friendly then the parents should keep the kids away from it, not complain about the fact that it exists, until it is changed.
Anyways, every kid watches Squid Game and other adult things
Agreed. Parents are just too lazy these days.
They wanna reap the benefits off children. They know majority of parents will keep kids away from Minecraft if Minecraft was not a family-friendly game. This is why games that blew up from teens to adults must stay relevant to teens to adults.
It like a Grey Goo thing but instead of cyborgs, it makinf everything so safe it boring.

@@Subject_Keter Luigi Mansion isn't for older audience, I think it's for 7+ kids
The reason for "undocumented" being removed could be that it has connotations to illegal immigration. I don't think it was actually referencing that, though. It's a shame ones like "huge tracts of land" got removed, that one is just hilarious, and while some of these are somewhat risqué, children will not be able to catch on to them anyway. The Russian text removal also feels like an overreach.
yeah the russia one is so stupid. Remove the small text on the main menu that shows up 0.5% of the time, That'll show putin!
The point where you say "from here on out, this is where the removals start to get controversial" is well chosen as I'd say the removals before it make sense while the ones after it are petty and uncalled for.
