in Alan Wake 1 we already see Nightingale after his nights and nights of bender and overfixating on the death of his partner and catching Wake, so it's safe to assume we were already seeing a pretty terrible side of him, and being Taken doesn't bring out the worst in you, that has only happened to Alan and it was with Scratch, (SPOILERS) which was the very essence of the Dark Presence which was leaked out from around the bullet of light out of Alan's head.
Being Taken means you're basically dead, your body is a drone operated by the Dark Presence to fulfill its goals. words spoken are nothing but verbal rigor mortis. echoes of the person who once owned the body, leaving their mouth without context

I wonder what their monetary deal actually is. They do not do music that actively anymore to my knowledge and they were newer super big, so them being in the game does not bring visibility like having Bruce Springstree or Metallica. So they do not need extra compensation for that. I assume doing music for the game can be fun. Could the compensation be actually relatively low? They also get exposure to a multimillion audience of players + 10x that who see the videos.

@@delmattia96I think that too. Alan and Saga is like the opposites of the same coins. Saga is always a positive woman, trying to understand and always try to see on positive light. While Alan is very pesimist guy and its part of his character since young. He always adore a dark, mysterious and convuluting setting and stories. And this also influence his own writting, because thats how his style is as the Writter.
And so no wonder that Mr Door is very angry too Alan by creating such a visceral and dark story that even bring his daughter and grand children down, and saying too Alan that you can do something better in his writting.
But the way i see it. Alan is seeing writting as a meants to try to gtfo out of Dark Place and not as meants of arts and cosiderance. His style of writting lacks compasion and understanding and instead is filled with Meticoulous and cold writting as he consider this is the best way to gtfo, thats why almost nobody want to help him, because if they help him everybody will drown with him.
Yet ironicaly it also why Scratch can influence him. But he is not heartless, its just his experience and fear blinded him that he also hurts other people especially Saga. And thats why in the last chapter Alan risk himself back to dark place to fix his grave mistakes.

58:35 You're right, Bricky, and I think it's a wider problem in media: way too many stories no longer offer 'stopping points,' for lack of better terminology, as there's always these dangling, unanswered plot threads, and they just kinda get exhausting to deal with after awhile. It's in movies, TV shows, and even video games now, and there's just...a limit, you know?
Eventually, you just want an ending that doesn't come with a hook: the big bad is dead, he doesn't have some girlfriend to swear revenge for him, the hero goes home, and that's the end. That doesn't mean that the hero of a story like that can't be in future stuff, just that there's no feeling of obligation to play or watch that future stuff to get more of the story.

Fun note about Dark Ocean Summoning that I think you touched on with the visuals you used, the one spooky line that obviously isn't Odin singing I think was the Dark Presence injecting it's own line into the song in order to travel with Alan Wake into the real world. It mentions riding within the character, which seems to fit with what happened to Alan.
You mentioned the Alan in prison wasn't really Alan. It was, he just had the Dark Presence within him I think specifically from that line in the song and it took him over and thus he became Mr. Scratch at that moment.

There's a principle in these sorts of stories that when the literal is incomprehensible, you can find grounding in the metaphorical. That what actually happened diegetically in the story becomes relatively clean cut the moment you understand the metaphorical role each element plays. Some events don't make thematic sense, so you can rule them out (like the "Alice was actually fake" example you gave)
Not everyone likes stories like that, and there's nothing wrong with preferring something that has a tight diegetic plot where engaging with the subtext is something to do optionally after finishing the story. I'm not here being a "you just can't get this game because your IQ is below 900, unlike mine" type snob.
But for my money, this game was 100% satisfying and I didn't have any questions by the end (except about Thomas Zane, that fucker's a cypher). If anything, the new game plus cheapens it slightly by making the implied ending clear cut.

Like, the only things we are certain of are:
      - The original Tom Zane's soul is in a pocket world with the original Barbara ( "This house of dreams" Blog)
      - The Diver in the first game was the Bright Presence inhabiting the original's body ("This House of Dreams" Blog)
      - Between the first game and the remastered something happened, in world, to rewrite Tom Zane from a poet to a Film-Maker
      - This change has gradually taken effect even on strong people like Jesse and, finally, on people that knew of him like Alan at the beginning of the Final Draft ( "A fictional poet once said ..." )
      - The Andersons and Ahti always called Alan "Tom", but Cynthia didn't even mention them looking similar.
      - From the AWE DLC and onward Tom Zane has been played by the same actor of Alan Wake.
      I don't know.
I can't think of anything else that is *Certain*.

Besides, Remedy setting is in general very mystique, full of either not fully explained or even fully unexplained phenomena. After reflecting upon it I now think that the story is kinda (somehow) designed that you feel like everything is going to be tied up nicely in a "true" ending,
while the game tells you the whole time that it is not.
It literally IS the ritual to lead you on. And it (could) kinda makes sense.
This a Alan Wake 2 and so you could say that this is just act 2, that just sets up the final act. Also this could explain the still open plot threads like Mr. Door.
But the problem is that Saga has a complete story structure, which then makes Alans partial story feel weird. But also that might be by design. (maybe?)

I really like the explanation for the ending of the Final Draft given in another video. Whether or not Logan can be rescued depends on whether the audience "buys" it, whether it seems deserved, whether we as the reader see Alan's and Saga's sacrifices as significant enough to not break the genre conventions. The happy end has to feel earned, especially because it is supposed to be horror. It can't just be a cheap feel-good rewrite where all the bad things never happened.
The theory put forward in that video was that the Final Draft ending has Alan reach the end of the spiral and has Logan survive because so many players loved the game, meaning they earned their freedom/survival.

Glad to see that the graphics issues went so much better for Bricky's second playthrough. Watching the highlights from the first one I was surprised at how big a hit he was taking in performance. I'm only on a 2070 super and the game ran great for me with ray tracing on and everything. Surprised to see just the streaming set up was able to make such a impact to performance.

Brickys criticism of things in the game meaning three or four different things is such a huge positive for me. You can view it from so many different angles and even one variation on one aspect of the story changes how you view the whole thing. I want a game like this, a game that I keep turning over and over in my head, obsessing over the hundreds of different viewpoints and meanings attributed to EVERYTHING. Bricky makes many valid criticisms, but it seems like he wants to understand it all, and have it more like other, simpler games, which I absolutely cannot understand. In an age of copy pasted black and white AAA trash, a game like this being confusing is the single best feeling I have had in gaming in years.

I love how Mr. Door progresses with his warnings and irritation toward wake.
First 2 times; talk show host persona while subtlety trying to drop hints to Wake that he's more responsible for what is happening than it seems like he is.
Then, trying a different approach into je form of a musical number and being a bit more on the nose.
Finally, he completely drops the persona and warns/threatens Wake directly that he has a hand in this and to stay out of his way. That combined with Mr. Door being *borderline omnipresent* across realities make him so threatening in such a subtle way.
He reminds me of Giancarlo Esposito playing Stan Edgar from The Boys; they both have incredible influence and balls of steel, only difference is that Mr. Door actually has supernatural properties.

This is the blue one, and the one Old Man Xehanort is trying to forge the X-Blade to gain access to.
The Kingdom Hearts from KH1 and KH2 (the yellow ones) are imitations/artifical Kingdom Hearts, made from the Hearts of Worlds that fell to Darkness in KH1 and from the Hearts of people released from Heartless destroyed by the Keyblade in KH2. They aren't the "real" Kingdom Hearts, but they still have incredible amounts of power in them.

Things like Alan Wake II remind me of the Nietzsche course I took in undergrad. One of his earliest works was on a theory of art, distinguishing "Apollonian" art, which is logical and ordered, with "Dionysian" art, which is chaotic and irrational, the latter of which culminates in a "dissolution of the self" or a "frenzy of self-forgetting". Alan Wake II is Dionysian. You're not eating a crumbling burrito, Bricky. You are the crumbling burrito, being taught to escape from the rigid confines of a hard taco shell, to experience flavour liberated from the oppression of form and structure.
Or at least, I imagine that's something someone might say. Someone like Sam Lake, You Hack.

Like I had no idea about remedys past games, but to see this bonkers thing that committed to its vision, you just had to look. Especially as an actor myself, its so good to see someone commit to something in a charming and endearing way. I cant stand people who elevate kojima as this true artist, he cant write dialogue for shit and why I cant stand his games. But I love sam lake (you hack) for still trying somehing with a knowledge that it is kinda wanky and goofy and its why I loved it and why it drew so many people in. Plus the chapter songs? What I love about this is Bricky's feelings are an EXACT parallel to the Twin Peaks season 3 reactions. "After a 25 year cliffhanger *that's* what you give me??". But to everyone who loves Twin Peaks (yes, especially Sam Lake), you can see why this was the narrative arc chosen. I respect why he doesn't like this, but every reason he has for not liking it (wanting closure, wanting more grounding) would make me like it less personally.
