Hi John iv been a waste water operator for 20 yrs at a plant that treats 28 million gallons of sewage a day in our plant we use uv sterilisation to kill fecal coliforms which is disease-causing pathogens. Since we swithed from gas cl2 to uv our fecal coliforms have stayed pretty much zero.this works great in aquariums especially for African Cichlids since they produce alot of waste and they sift throughout the sand. Since iv been using uv in my tank it works great for the most common killer of AFs parasites. My AFs never get parasitic infections since iv started using the 18w or better uv sterilizer. What a money saver if you have a tank of $50+ fish in it. This product pays for itself with in 3 months. Sry for long comment you and lisa are great.👍👍
Great videos. I recently bought a UV sterilizer of a different brand for my chronically algae infested tank. Within one week, the water was CRYSTAL clear, and I mean crystal. I was so impressed that I bought a second one for another one of my tanks, and am getting similar clearing results 3 days into use. I will swear by these from now on. Great addition to my tanks.

HOB filters inherently have more noise relative to water level as you stated. The one negative that I'd include is if aqueon and ALL HOB manufacturers is to extend the outlet of the filter to minimize the drop off to the surface level of the tank water to lessen the noise.
I have this sterilizer and it works well to clear up the water. It's quiet as long as you keep your water level high. Very sturdy product, it feels well constructed. My only complaint is that it gets clogged easily and I have to clean it monthly at a minimum.
just bought my 2nd one today from mountain pets 18 watt uv 138 shipped easy to use have one on my discus tank for 1 year plus replacement bulbs on ebay for 2 bucks each

I've been researching UV sterilizers for two weeks and the only things you can get are in lines which seems like too much of a pain in the ass to hook up to my fx6 plus there is too much flow or gigantic in the tank sterilizer I came across the hob uv and there's only two videos on RUclips about it and they aren't very informative. thanks for helping me make up my mind I'm getting this one

the benefit of having seperate plugs is that you can turn off the uv light while you keep the pump running. anytime you add bacterial products to the aquarium, you should turn off the uv light for about 24 hours so the bateria have a chance to attach wherever it needs to otherwise the uv will kill the bacteria. but if you also turn off the pump for that time, it will usualy collect gunk and when you turn it back on it will come right into your tank thats why i keep the pump going to prevent gunk buildup.

that two plug though.... good if you want to put the uv light on a timer (like with your normal aquarium lights) but its a pain... i already have around 6 plugs comming from one outlet in my tank.. one more i wouldnt mind but two more is the deal breaker.
Will UV help with a Blackbeard Algae problem? Seems to me that a Sunsun 704b has UV as well as being a good canister filter and costs less than this filter!

I know this is off topic but I'm new to fish-keeping. Q: Is 4 guppies and a nerite snail too much for in a 30 gallon aquarium? Is so what should I do with them. I've only had my fish for 3 weeks. And I did the cycle thing for 3 months. Just let me know if I'm overstocked please and thank you.
I used that bottle of stuff that is in fish stores and I put in a algae wafer every once and a while. And thanks to everyone for the helpful comments. I will be sure to add a few more fish. :) And as of right now my ammonia is at 0 ppm.
Oh and is is ok if I have 4 male guppies. The two biggest ones are always fighting while the two little one just mind their own business. So are the biggest ones fighting over territory and will it eventually stop? Or are they just going to fight until one is dead?

Their HOBs are quiet too. I got a Tetra Whisper EX70 HOB with a tank. It's like a diesel idling all day.

Would you run the UV sterilizer 24/7 or only at night when power is cheaper and just keep the circulation going all day?

as reponsible fishkeeper u let the algae to reduce your ammonia content in the tank....not sterilise it for the sake of pleasing your eye...😂
A responsible fishkeeper will have cycled the filter so there is no need for algea to remove ammonia.
