Meeting Deadeye Duncan on Manaan

- While traveling the galaxy to find Star Maps, Revan runs into Deadeye Duncan who escaped Taris. Duncan is happy to see Revan and still remembers him as the Mysterious Stranger from the Dueling Ring. During their conversation, Revan has some memories of what things said about Duncan and his success from the Dueling Rings and later gives Duncan permission to use his dueling name since Revan doesn't need it anymore.
This video was a first for me as I added some audio from Taris of things said of the duels you do and things said about Duncan between dialog choices. Thanks to Seamhainn for making the mod that restores this scene.

You know, as nice as this is, you probably just got Duncan killed. People will expect him to be a badass, super-skilled mercenary. He'll either die to his enemies or get executed by his allies.

Actually, no. Don't you remember what the Hutt said on Taris? After you defeated the Starkiller guy, your career is over, nobody would dare to fight you. So Duncan can live in luxury, using your name to make wealth.
People may want to hire him as mercenary, or, just as Nate said, to kill him in purpose of making a name. That kind of "fame protection" works only at the ring.

KOTOR is great for having small stories just like this one. I am grateful you show some episodes to all of us, and thus paying tribute both to minor KOTOR characters and people who worked on these scenes. Seeing a video like this is like a good tv show, which doesn't get annoying even at Season 6.
We need a kotor tv show, or a trilogy of movies based on Kotor

i think it would be cool if when you went in the underwater base Duncan was in there and he had a story about how the republic soldiers had heard his reputation was good and sent him to go in first then when they saw the selkath he ran and locked the door as everyone was killed

[Revan]: If I didn't he would have starved to death. He needed a job.
[Kreia]: is it such a simplistic motivation that drives you? Imagine this apprentice. This Duncan individual runs off to the republic and claims the name you beset upon him. Incredulous the title, they decide to have him lead a battalion of men with no weapon proficiency and no leadership experience. Due to that lack of experience he leads his entire battalion to their deaths. Each and every life, connected to the force, wistfully brushed away due to one mans ignorance...and you encouraged it. Perhaps he may find trouble with his allies afterwards, or perhaps he will die along with his men like the fool he is.
[Revan]: If he dies at least it will have been his choice.
[Kreia]: It is not a matter of choice when it come to that mans survival. Do you honestly believe that despite all of his losses, all of his hardships that it is his choices that saved him thus far? I think not, in fact I daresay it is his poor judgement that endangers him to begin with. Did you not hear his tale just earlier? A man, of his caliber just so happened to stumble upon a sith shuttle, that just so happened to have been evacuated by the time he arrived? And what are the odds truly for all 16 sith to have been crushed under rubble, but he himself, and the ship might I add, come about unscathed? That's not even to mention how he slipped passed all of the other shuttles amidst the chaos. One would think that the sith would be organized enough to keep track of all of their smaller shuttles for proper combat directive, but instead at a amidst the chaos he was let go, no such command ship called upon him or reported the vehicle missing. No, it is a much deeper strength that lies within that man. Like all things, the force guides him where his mind fails him. He has an faint connection to the force that he uses whenever he finds himself in peril. The fool probably doesn't even realize it himself.
[Revan]: If that is the case, then the force will guide him once again as well as all the men he may end up leading.
[Kreia]: I am not so sure about that my young apprentice. Perhaps it is no coincidence that we happened to stumble upon our old friend at this moment. The true reasoning for desire to claim the title was to escape the stigmatism that came with his former name. He would have claimed your name with or without your consent as his judgement would deem it wise much like it did with all his other failures. Still, just as he was leaving his recruitment we happened to stumble upon him before he comes to that conclusion. The force guides him where his mind fails him young apprentice. There is a reason why he asked for your permission. If you had denied him or even threatened him for stealing your name, then perhaps he would consider otherwise and be unable to join the ranks of the republic. Perhaps this war that will be fought will be ill favored the side he will choose and perhaps he will fight a battle he has no hope of winning. A battle where even the force cannot save him. All because your judgement was just as weak as his. Mindlessly doing what you think is correct, knowing, but never truly considering the consequences. Of course, death comes for us all. Perhaps there is no significance in his life any longer, and your decision was also that of the force...deciding so ruthlessly that his life has been lived long enough. Still, heed my words carefully my apprentice, and take care so that you do not share in that mans weakness.

That line made me laugh my ass off.
Am I the only one who loves the mini fourth-wall break when Duncan says how "You could be anyone: man, woman, me" referencing how your character can be anything you want? It makes Deadeye Duncan seem like some omniscient being that transcends the universe of the game, which I love.

redleader441 Yeah they'd definitely want him to prove it, though if he learned to carry himself around with any amount of confidence few would want to try since everyone thinks a fight with the stranger means an early grave.
But this is Duncan so yeah, I give it a week at best before someone tries their luck and smacks him down.

@@blobber51 Monumental. The ending makes a lot more sense and ties up a lot of loose ends that were left hanging in vanilla. Plus there's a couple cool new dungeons.

There are lots of them in KOTOR. When Hanharr was in my party, I tried to enter the cave in Korriban annd Hanharr complained about the smell. You cauld say "Get in there you big furry oaf. I don't care what you smell" to him, which I did .
AS sa That is such a great Han Solo reference from ANH on the death star going in the garbage shute.

I played this game when it came out 7 years ago, I was 12. I played it A LOT, manaan and taris where my favorite planets.

I like to think this story arc concluded with Deadeye Duncan strutting with confidence back to his junker ship, only to clumsily slip and fall off the edge of Manaan City and drown.

it's heart warming for me to know that many Tarisans got out alive.... This game is just tooo good. Little details like this are the things that make KOTOR I the best RPG ever. I was so into the game that when I see this guy again I really feel happy.
Deadeye Duncan is basically the Yamcha of the Star Wars universe; he makes all the Imperial stormtroopers COMBINED look redeemable.
That Manaan music in the background is just beautiful...really brings back memories.
If you two end up being neighbors, I would laugh.
This was honestly one of my favorite scenes in KOTOR. This guy was one of the friendlier faces on Yaris and I was happy to see he made it off safely.

The soundtrack that accompanied this story is beautiful.
I like to believe the Taris arena announcer escaped with Deadeye and is operating the local Manaan PA system. Duncan is so sick of his teasing he chooses not to say anything about it.

I've played both KOTOR games on Xbox since you wondered. In fact, I would say I have beaten KOTOR on Xbox at least 20 times before I got it on PC. The only reason I got it for PC because I found out you can mod the game.

If this were in the game with detail, then another option, and some extra outcome would be nice.
1. You tell him, that no deal, then he says, that he will do it anyway. Later you hear, that he died somewhere.
2. You tell him to go ahead. Later you hear, that he done some big heroics, or even meet him on the Starforge with the Republic strike team.
3. You convince him, that this won't end well for him, and better to change profession. Using that name will demand results, that he can't provide. Later you meet him doing something peaceful.
@ShakenFoe: I played the Xbox version when this game first came out and I can tell you that this scene never happens.

That's so weird that there is so many scenes that are in the game, but can only be unlocked with mods. It makes the game even more impressive than it already is. I have this for the Xbox so obviously I can't use mods.

I remember playing this game, Probably one of the best games i've ever played.
Why doesn't Duncan just find a new line of work? He himself said that he could play the part for months... until people see him fight. Sooner or later, someone will want to challenge him to battle. And the moment he starts fighting, he will be exposed as a fraud.
Played this game through maybe half a dozen times, never knew he survived.

10 years old, and still better than most games today.
This is what i love about games made with love and passion like KotOR - they take small, tiny, easily-forgettable characters like Deadeye Duncan, a person that you could be forgiven for not remembering, and reminding you that they're living people. Duncan was the laughing stock of Taris, but now he has a second chance to make something of himself.

Oh wow, most of the bugs I had gotten stopped just after I posted that comment... But it works fine now. It was mainly when Malak was preparing to bombard Taris and we were escaping with all those cutscenes but as it has seemed to calm a bit I have nothing to complain about. THIS GAME IS LONGER THAN ITS SEQUEL!
Well, Anakin was the Chosen One. Maybe it's symbolic that Revan was in his own way. :p
I guess the arena announcer and other flashback voices from Taris won't give it away for some people.

It's unfortunately cut from the main game, so I doubt you'll see it on your 21st playthrough. I'd contact the uploader to get the mod that enabled him to see this scene.

So, Deadeye Duncan, the *WORST* duelist on Taris, funnily enough is one of the few that survives Taris' destruction. Sweet, sweet, delicious irony. I wonder if there's an easter egg to show what happened to Duncan in TOR.
This is probably my favourite star wars game of all time
