If you see Peacekeepers' equipment, they're dressed and equipped more like a riot police rather than a soldier, even until 74th year. It means up to that point they're more prepared to maintain security rather than combat. Only at 75th year they receive heavier gear like full face helmet, hard armor, and carries guns more regularly

Every countries prime resource is its people. And a state getting to the point of regularly deploying non lethal peace keepers, you can tell their back is to the wall, regardless of their poker face.
As the only next option is lethality, which also forces the people to step up too.
As with every nation, there is an unspoken agreement.
“You give us safety, homes, opportunity to provide for ourselves and to grow.”
But if that government crosses the line, what else can be done?
@@RoarSilly03It's actually supported in the movie. At the start of Catching Fire, all the peacekeepers are the old design. The new peacekeepers are brought in with the new uniforms, and they blackbag the old ones with the old uniforms.
@@ltfringrit’s mostly the old commander that they sack. It’s not outright said, but subtly shown that he had turned a blind eye to a lot of minor illegal activities within District 12, such as a central Bazaar that allowed citizens in District 12 to barter and trade amongst themselves, making them less dependent on the Capitol for goods. The new commander imposes ALL of the Capitol’s rules on the district, further fanning the flames of rebellion.
He should make a video listing all the victors that we know so far.

I like that they didn't paint every peacekeeper with the same stroke, how easily Suzanne could've made them all into stereotypical villains and that would make us forget that we don't need to be villains or be super rich and powerful to oppress other people and do vile things to one another.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who noticed that in the first movie you could see the Peacekeepers' faces even with their helmets on. Their shields were clear. It was not until the next movie like when Thread comes to District 12 that you see that or during the Victory Tour that the Peacekeepers' helmets were darkened. It was definitely foreshadowing something more sinister for the events to come. I forget if it was Thread's predecessor in District 12, Cray(?), or someone before him but in the books, Katniss hinting about almost going to his house like so many other girls have done before when Katniss was trying to feed her family before Peeta threw that loaf of burnt bread her way. So Cray may have been lax when it came to allowing the Hob to operate and such, but he was a predator. He lured young girls to his home and fed them in return for.... The dystopian version of the guy in the van with hypothetical candy. The other Peacekeeper who had red hair and was a sort of a friend to Katniss tried to help her and Gale when Gale was at the whipping post (in the books) and he got turned into an Avox for it and was put on District 12's floor for the Quarter Quell. Snow knew that Katniss would recognize her and wished to show what happens to people who help her.
Yeah, the previous one was Cray. Katniss says that even she might have become one of the _those_ girls if she had been older. He did some _bad_ things.

When I think off these guys and the people they serve in a war I always think off the quote by Michale Corleone from the Godfather.
Soldiers get paid, rebels don’t. they can win.
Edit: What this basically means it that soldiers get paid to do their services, but rebels fight for a cause that they are willing to die for which makes them very motivated and dangerous whilst the soldiers may get paid alot, but are not loyal and probably also scared for failure especially with what their Commanders like Thread or even Snow do.
Would love to see a movie about the creation of Panem after the cataclysm, and how the emerging government thought running the country like a big labour camp would be a particularly smart idea.
I always thought america transformed into penum because of the chaos that was happening and at first people liked it cause unlike the USA (Canada and Mexico too) they got shit done and gave them peace. People who made penum were all the rich/politicians/military folk. Originally it was probably only a program to help bring peace to all 3 nations but it became very dictatorial after forming cause people love their power. Got worse over time especially sense penum was probably killing EVERYONE they saw as a enemy and not just people causing trouble like they used to and because of that the first rebellion happened
I never asked for a peacekeeper lore but I enjoyed it since their so interesting even though their just soldiers but they have a huge role in the story when it comes to the world building of the hunger games.

@@CatherineBurk I think he asked for 12 because he wanted to see Lucy again because the peacekeeper that did the assignments remarked that recruits rarely asked to go to the poorest district.

Great video! Thanks! Recently I heard on a podcast that Suzanne Collins' world building was horrible. I took issue with that, but what they said was, for example, why would such an advanced society need to keep an entire district that mines coal? They also made fun of how small district 12 was, saying it doesn't make any sense how little the population was for the entire former United States. What are your thoughts on that, Morgan?
Honestly this people must not have seen a map. Appalachia/ Kentucky and West Virginia are not very large
For person who has read many types of fantasy/scifi, I actually think Collins world building is rather good. Panem is actually very close as modern day russia works.
Also, as we do not have map available for us, we dont know how big Panem actually is. As there is many pointers on how there was rising sea levels and everything. Therefore it is plausible that population was fraction of what it used to be.

Actually they are scarier. Not to mention their armor allows them to be more agile than Stormtroopers (I'm a huge Star Wars fan btw, but I imagine wearing that costume must suck).

One thing I've noticed is how the peacekeepers went from. You can see their faces to you can't even see their faces, just threads face. I also noticed how their uniforms changed. You went from like relaxed. Typical softer uniforms to more armored uniforms.

Peacekeepers are similar to stormtroopers from Star Wars, marines from One Piece, and other series. I know this is obvious but they are all complex.

the Peace Keepers are an interesting and complex force in Panem. They are extremely similar to the Nazi's Storm Troopers. They too enforced the rule of the regime but they were also regular citizens who joined for various reasons whether it was loyalty, prestige, or they enjoyed inflicting violence or looting.
Just like the citizens of the capital, Peacekeepers are indoctrinated from childhood to believe that the districts are beneath them; they are brainwashed and lack empathy since this is not a concept that is promoted by the capitol. They have a false sense of freedom and don't consider how they are slaves to the system just like all the other districts. The capitol was very smart in fostering loyalty from district 1 and 2 because of the proximity to them and the fact that the capitol would be surrounded if those two districts rebelled. Everything the capitol does is with a very specific purpose in mind.
Stormtroopers were the elite offensive units of the german empire during ww1 they have nothing to do with nazi Germany .the units wich the nazis used to inforce their regime were ss units

i always thought peacekeepers in lower districts looked like american US grunts using ww2 styled uniforms and helmets while the more central to the capitol the more modern to what we have now in equipment. Also using more dirtier colours to cleaner ones from low districts to higher ones. Kinda starting from greys, browns, etc etc to white and light blues
In the prequel movie Peacekeepers look a lot less futuristic, wearing simple clothing and helmets along with carrying less advanced weapons
Lbh, the Peacekeepers armor will never be as great or as memorable as the ones that we see from Halo video games, the Clone Wars, heck, not even the Mandolorian armor. Am I right? lol
I don’t think they’re as much as a focus as stormtroopers or in Halo. The focus in hunger Games is less on Peacekeepers as villains and more on the capital

It strongly seemed that Panem did not prepare to fight external enemies at Katniss's time. During 10th games Panem had navy and such, but no mention of it came later.
Considering how easily they were over run by rebels indicates that they have few military assets, they have aircraft, but they are probably limited. I doubt they have anything more than the armored cars, certainly no tanks or attack helicopters, it's just a giant surveillance police force with a few planes. But nerd military details are not in the books.

I would say that is only for once that have not read books or not remember them. Only the more fanatical ones like Romulus Thread and his ilk were that type. Atleast in d12 they were fundamentally rather decent people. But as Morgan said, it strongly depended what type of leader peacekeepers had.

@@andpeg literally how the Rebels run their military in the civil war and how the pro-capitol forces respond. Also president coin constantly revealing government/military plans out in the open when literal spies could be on the inside. There's a whole lot more I could list. The filmmakers clearly never served in the military and it shows.
