  • It is my first travel and exploration video in the country of Turkey in the ancient city of Aspendos (a province in Antalya, Turkey), where this massive and best-preserved ancient Roman Amphitheater is standing today; built in the 2nd century AD, during the reign of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius 161-180 AD).
In truth, I was in awe when I saw the height of this ancient building. The architectural geniuses behind this feat of advanced engineering and masonry work are beyond words to describe. Join me to explore this beautiful and historic Roman Architecture in Aspendos, Turkey.

You are welcome. Turkey is a beautiful country. The Aspendos ruin is a must see for those interested in Antalya’s ancient Roman ruins.

When I was a young man in the early seventies I passed through Turkey on my way to Australia, at the time I had a tight budget and almost no information on Roman Turkey so I missed it all. I saw several medieval castles but nothing amazing like this.

The Romans certainly took maximum effort to construct buildings to last , there must of been a feeling of the empire being eternal , you can see the same attitude from the British in the era of their peak power .

If those stones could talk would they laugh or cry? How many did they greet and say goodbye?

The missing marble columns were looted years ago but I'm curious -where was their final resting place?

No it was most definitely built by the Romans.

@@mattpatus5526 hahaha. The “romans” that they teach you in school, were native greek speaking greeks that were living there , centuries before romans came. And so romans couldn’t change the official language, so it remained greek as it was before the romans. I can really understand you cause I know what they teach you in your schools. But everybody else from every other country exept turkey is teached the reality about these places. Just ask anyone, and you’ll see.😉

Hahah.....The theater is Roman. It was built in the 2nd century AD during the time of Emperor Marcus Aurelius!!!

@@georgigeorgiev156 roman era in Anatolia, doesn’t mean that it was not made by Greeks, as the region was inhabited , entirely by Greeks, and other peoples were totally hellenized, from centuries ago, during the hellenisic centuries. The big projects were financed by local nobles, that , ofcourse were Greek, as the rest of the population. Very few projects were financed directly by the emperor, but again all works were executed by the local Greek people who they were famous throughout the empire as the best constructors of monumental buildings. The official language if the eastern part if the empire was greek, due to the population speaking Greek and not latin. So fir something being built during roman era, never meant that it was not built by the local Greek inhabitants. Usually constructions in that part of the empire, were about only maintaining the all ready existing cities, after natural catastrophe, or just renewing of very old Greek buildings, of these Greek cities.
