A trick I use to make the vocoded vocals sound a bit more understandable: record both the unprocessed and processed vocals. Then put a high-pass filter on the unprocessed track with a very high cutoff that only lets the sibilants through. That way you get the timbre and formants of the vocoded vocals, with the sibilants on top that the vocoder doesn't pass through.
@@angelog.spicolaiii8021 No. A vocoder takes the formant shape of the voice and applies that formant shaping (specific harmonics) to another sound, usually a synthesized sound. The formants harmonic frequencies do not go anywhere near the higher frequencies where sibilants exist, so the end result is that sibilants are stripped out entirely. Most synth (carrier) sounds also don't contain much in that frequency range, so even if the vocoder did transfer formant shapes in the sibilant frequency range, there would be very little sound because the carrier didn't have much sound in those frequencies.
I'll add another tip; to get sibilants out much more understandable -> add some white noise to the carrier sound, which you can also f.e. hi-pass filter and add some resonance to taste. Think about it, what happens when you pronounce let's say an 'S'?
I grew up recording full songs on MIDI and i thought i was a good finger drummer. Daaaaamn you are amazing. The snare flams, the ride cymbals. You take it to another level!

I have never seen anyone who is as happy with his work as you, your energy of happiness is passed on to us as well. Happy new year with your teammates. Greetings from Turkey, Happy new year ..
I imagined keyboard drumming to only be in last resort when pads are unavailable... I was amazed to see that used deliberately and brilliantly. Claudio, you have lying around all the hardware you may ever want... And you chose to use keyboard for drums ? Or you just couldn't be arsed to fetch some groovebox with nice pads ?
I have been watching the updated version on YT for a while. It is such a good song that seems timeless. Dr. Mix, you hit it out of the park !! Super talented ! Make it look soooo easy...Beautiful man really !
This was soooo gooood! I learned loads, I bobbed my head, I grinned ear to ear because your glee is so infectious. Have a cool Yule, Claudio. Looking forward to a 2023 full of more of these groovy deconstructions. Thank you xxx
What a treat to wake up to coffee and see you jamming one of my favorite songs. You killed this as always and bro that bass line on the Mini Moog. Fantastic job
You have the talent man! At first when you prefaced the vocoder I thought oh nooooo. But at the end of this video you managed to make it groove just fine. Love watching you play around. Makes me smile! Have a great new years eve yourself. Looking forward to your future videos in 2023!
Dr.Mix, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Thank you for sharing you talents with us, you are amazing! Take care and be well. Looking forward to more videos. I'd love to hear some originals from you. Great job!👏👏👏👏👏👏
Geez!!! Wow! Every sigle "deconstructed" video to me is a full course about synth programming, sound design, mixing, creative use of fxs, knowledge about every single piece of hardware in that room, patches libraries of every keyboards and how and when is used in a world of songs. I can't move my eyes from your fingers playing (well... those tungsten/carbide rings from Amzn helps a lot! 😁... i have the blue ones🤣). And all this... is free! (with great power... comes great responsabilities)!!! God Bless You Claudio! Happy New Year to you Man!
This is really quite amazing man. The drumming is so precise. It sounds so lush, clean and polished. Everything about this is just brilliant. I have to check out sonible now. Fantastic man, bravo!!!
Awesome video! I love this song! Simply Red sampled the drums from this Song from Hall & Oates for his song Sunrise (2003). I also really like his song!
The Simply Red track sampled a lot more than just the drums. It's got the bassline and piano motif as well. It even features a woman singing Hall & Oates' lyrics. It's basically a mash-up, with Much Hucknall displaying very little skill of his own. He mailed in some extra words, but fortunately Hall & Oates got a share of the royalties, because Hucknall's song is a nothing burger without the actual hook of the original.
I had so much fun seeing you having fun. Thanks Claudio. Happy Christmas to you and all the crew there. The solo on Minifreak was amazing. Nice machine isn't it?
man, this is great stuff! always great musical heritage stuff to put "in da mix". What a way to end 2022~also thanks Scotts synth for the great vocoder tip. will surely try that only thing, I mainly work analog these days! keep em coming doc in 2023. Many thanks
When I heard the beginning of the video I thought I don't like that song (radio hammering) , but step by step you make appreciate the subtlety of a 'commercial' track, its musicality, and that's great 👍 Also I remind when I watched your channel years ago, thinking you were just a funny guy playing a bit of pop music, I feel so confused not to have immediately heard you were a great master, an real artist , extremely skilled in all the great stuff... I believe you can name your program Golden !! And :Doctor: is absolutely deserved . Once again people who know their job are often the most simple and don't try to shine excessively. You know how to play music, I'm impressed again and again.
Though, you shine!! !! ! I meant 'shine' like trying to impress. Désolé mon niveau d'anglais est tout naze, sûr que je fais des maladresses et j'espère pas trop de contresens
Man what I would give to have your talent... Just look at how much fun you're having! This was an excellent video for just relaxing too. I love your videos Doctor Mix!
I remember this song fondly from my childhood, as my dad loved Hall & Oates...but you need to check the Chromeo version with Darryl Hall. The Cee-Lo one's good, but the Chromeo one is something else!
I congratulate you Dr.Mix, I always have a great time and I learn something with your work, although I am self-taught. I'm Carlos, a big hug from Spain, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.😉🙌
Great finger drumming and excellent production masterclass! I have to say I love the original version by Hall & Oates and was particularly fascinated by the CR78 production as it was so effective for the song! But as always excellent video my friend!
pure:Limit is amazing!!! Considering the EASE with which it accomplishes the necessary task is beyond great!!! And as usual 'Doctor Mix', your video was entertaining and educational. 🙂🧡
Nice deconstruction! But having a P5 and not using it on a track full of it is quite surprising ^^ I suppose the targeted version is the covered version.
It was great, doctor, you are great, especially when I see your happiness and the fact that you feel the music with every single cell of yours, I am really excited to see that you work with the love of music. I follow you from Iran recently and I really enjoy your content, teachings and explanations I hope that one day I will meet you and we can play a happy music with Iranian-American sound And I want to learn more about music from you Yours sincerely Benjamin❤❤✌✌

For Claudio keyboard is always first choice, he probably also plays saxophone and guitar on keyboard, haha.
haha - how do you know how many takes it was?
@@d3maccus not sure .. but looked like 1 take . Either way it was great job . I can’t drum like that
@@gogamusic it is some verrrry nice finger drumming.
Love hall and Oates
So envious of your drumming on the keyboard! Nice!
For real. Sounds very natural
Was super impressed!

Man, your work is amazingly inspiring. My band has just been working on this song and your deconstruction gave us tons of ideas. Great job!
You blew my mind with the finger drumming bro, outstanding.
Man you awesome at drums. Not a single mistake in one take. :) Love it!
One take that we see... 🙂

One of my top H&O songs. Another phenomenal and underrated song is "Possession Obsession"
Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid
I’m in Pieces
That song is a total earworm. And, the message is as relevant as ever.
Happy Holliday and a happy new year 2023 for you too
That Moog tone and rhodes are incredible!!!!! Phd level master class from Doctor Mix!!!
That was fantastic to watch. I've loved that song since I first heard it back in 1981. Hall & Oates don't get the credit they deserve.
Dig the new shades! What a fantastic remix! Love it you make it look so easy!
Damn that was good. Probably your best deconstruction. Also, GREAT song (thanks Hall and Oates). You're a master at this and it's just a joy to watch.

Love the microfreak solo, very cool.
Love your new glasses.
Dude your bass on the Moog is awesome......you really feel the beat.
That was absolutely masterful. Bass especially so. I love the middle of the board Rhodes as well. Much funkier dry than with phaser or chorus.
So warm nice .thanks Claudio, happy Christmas in advance to you all
