Language study is called linguistics, and people who study linguistics are linguists. Being a linguist isn't easy; you usually have to go to graduate school and research a specific aspect of language. There are computational linguists, forensic linguists, comparative linguists, and many other specialties. Linguists have studied "speaking in tongues" and have reported in research that it is all garbage, an act put on by the language speaker. The only considerations were medical; did this person have a head injury? Is this person getting enough oxygen to his brain? Speaking in tongues is speaking a language unknown to the person saying it because of supernatural/religious experiences or connections with long-dead people who talk about this language. The problem is that linguists report that it's not language. It's just noise. It's like me not knowing Chinese, making a bunch of noises similar to what I have seen on TV or in the movies where Chinese people speak Chinese (ex., ching chong ping pong.) It's all just part of the religious con we see in predatory TV pastors and people taking money from the vulnerable who don't know any better.
