This is not new, they had bigger versions of these in 1917 in Germany with guns
That idea obviously tanked...
😃😁😆
the tank was a British invention wasnt it?
It was a British invention and in WW1 was not used in Germany
👍🤣😂
This would be a good getaway vehicle for James Bond
"he bought an electric scooter for his daughter..." then he was like f*** it, I'm tearing it apart and making electric skiis with this hahaha
YOU MEAN GAS
@@KennethYimHomes Electric* 1:10 If you're confident enough to shout in caps, at least make sure you're right.
Its not electric its 4 stroke gas lol.
@@caleb1031 ehm... just listen to the motorsound!?...lol
1:15 he said he started with an Electric motor...
I’m a snowboarder and the best part of snowboarding is that it’s a quiet blanket of snow if you can’t hear anything it’s just you cutting through the powder if you made that thing electric I’d buy 10 of them
Plus reduces carbon footprint 👍
He already tried that. An electric one would be way larger and heavier to do the same job. And then when it runs out of charge, you get to haul it by hand.
I'm sure an electric version will come later, they jus need ed to make sure it worked reliably for now, and then will venture into more ideas when they do more testing
I was think the same, but for military use. Can you imagine special forces skiing up on that?!
Not an engineer, just from my observations it seem the lithium ion battery packs do poorly in the cold 🥶--so maybe that why we haven’t seen much in this area --but in time...
I love how he's just randomly circling around when the woman is talking
"If there only was a way to have motorized skis"
Snowmobile: *Am I a joke to you?*
Oh yea we forgot everyone has 1000+ dollars just layin around
You're an idiot tbh
It’s not the same you moron
@@lovrecop7492 this thing would cost 1000+ easy
@@pummelu3423 track in back, skis in front it's a pretty similar concept you idiot
This could have many benefits in things like rescue, racing and just fun!
Yah but snowmobiles safer and faster
@S R but snowmobils arr way more expensive and cumbersome, and maintenance-wise, and way heavier.
I think in small resorts, they could have the Skizee, and when you can't transport a snowmobile.
Woah yeah this would be awesome for rescues inaccesible through snowmobile.
This would ruin racing
@@addiosnia ...and much bigger, so it does not get to less accessible places.
I got to ride the Skizee this past Monday...I hadn't been on Skis in 20 years...it was awesome and now I can see myself getting on skis more
Looks like you are getting chased by an arctic honey badger.
A seat- less snowmobile incredible breakthrough
“Slogging to the top every time the lift broke down” ... bro that’s what ski touring is all about.
Yeah but didn't they say he was the maintenance man? He was trying to make his job easier.
His daughter is watching this while yelling "give me back my scooter".
I built something close to this around 95'
It looked like the track mounted in a suspension on the back of a snowboard . But being young, broke, and living in southern California I never really got it working good
Being a machinist helped
It's amazing what you can get done on your lunch
P.S. Thanks to all those bosses who put up with my G-job
Then, once you're done skiing down the slope you get to enjoy the hike back up to get The Skizee that's still at the top.
That is what I was thinking
I was just wondering about that.. 😂
Very soon it will come down hill with the auto pilot sensors to pick u up. 😀
that’s why you should get my invention, the EZ-Skizee, exactly like the skizee but is light and can fold up like a backpack 😱🤯
We need more carpenters, artists, and inventors in this world....love it!
YES! Solves my down days on the flat farm I live on and waiting for the weekends to head to Searchmont Valley Ski Resort here in Ontario! I'm solidly sold!
lol, richard hammond probably could've used one of these.
and managed to burn it or something.
styledliving right, when they went to the North Pole...
observation: Seems like snowmobiling except you are standing out front? Can you drink and poker run?
Man shrinks down ww1 British tank and puts a handle on it.
I for sure could see snow patrol with this here in the states. I’d use on cross country treks. Very cool
Well done! I love it. Hope they are successful.
Somebody tag that ski patrol dude from the 80’s that was griping about how snowboarders were were a danger to be in on the mountain with skiers.... major plot twist!!!
Here you go: ruclips.net/video/XPZDEWBzneY/видео.html
Ill get his pager
Lmao I know exactly the video you are talking about “they won’t be around long”
They just need to find a way to make this a silent electric motor.
@Jenson Vaughan cold weather is very harsh on batteries
Can add more gas easy and cheap, extra batteries are far more expensive.
Going through deep snow is not practical for battery powered. Drains batteries fast, plus the weight required.
@@garret1658 I mean, it is pretty easy to insulate it with that size.
It won’t last long enough at the power level it needs
They should call it "The Snow Stalker."
Below zero refrence
Wow. That's so perfect for people that like to ski and live in the flat landscape of the Midwest. Nice!!!!!
You already know all cross country skiers disliked this
This is one of those things you say to yourself: well yes of course why did it take so long. Very nice!!! Very cool...
siberian husky: dam machines took my job
very helpful tool. esp for workers on the slopes .cheaper than snowmobiles and usefull tool for rescues if you redesign it for a stretcher ??? it has loads of advantages over a snowmobile regards cost / maintenance/ storage . but not in a rescue situation where you need to stretcher someone off the slopes . this is where it would be most helpful this motor needs to be trailer ( sort of ) so that you could put tools / hardware logs/ flag poles etc or place a stretcher on top and pull it
Can they just make one you can sit on. And skis mounted to the front instead of your feet. It would revolutionize the way people travel on snow.
Well this is much smaller than a snowmobile
Thats basically a snowmobile
we could call it a “snowmobile”, that would be awesome🤔
@@sixbronze3726 no... really??? Are you sure??
My dad build this on his snowboard already 25 years ago! He was driving uphill!
The more I think about it the better this thing gets. Really clever.
Best cbc news sign off ever, what a legend
Norway: THATS ILLEGAL
but you're the best at cross-country skiing anyway : ) I was hoping for it to be electric. Another not-really-necessary-toyto eff up natures silence :/
Get into nature, away from noise and pollution. Then find yourself surrounded by people using this.
Yeah because it's not like ski hills have chair lifts powered by engines or snowcats or anything
And complaining about climate change...
Surrounded by people using this??? For CAD$ 5K each, you won't find that many people...
@@etoxic1502 the ski lifts are mostly Electric.
Thanks to snowmobiles, there's no such thing as "into nature, away from noise and pollution."
A pair of rollerblades and some wheels to replace the track and I'm bout to save a boatload on my daily commute 😂
This is already invented. I tested one in Norway in 1965. It come from övik in Sweden
Imagine this thing silent and electric someday lol just cruising
And then finding a recharge station out in the bush.
There's already a thousand year old alternative to this on the marked. It's called cross-country skiing, and it will get you in great shape too.😉
On the contrary what video says in the end, cross country snowboarding definitely has been a "thing" for many many years. With kite, snowkiting. Though Skizee looks cool thing too! ;)
Except if you get one of your kite lines Tangled in a tree like I did and eats the kite
... Or with a splitboard. Kiting is fun, but you need pretty specific conditions.
Just wait till we can have drones pulling us.
@@sirtimatbob You kinda can already, it's just a battery capacity issue really. Admittedly that doesn't mean it's getting solved anytime soon
And that's the last we saw of Zack & the Skizz. Somesay on a cold winter day that if you are quiet you can still here him going "Wheeeeeee!"
This would be great for Ski Patrol Candidates to practice with sled handling
Perfect for a day of silence in the mountains.
Well said. Kiss the serenity of skiing goodbye. Awesome invention though
Also perfect to ruin the silence for everybody else
What a great invention ! It's so boring to ski backcoutry in the peacefull silence of nature that I would love to try this noisy invention !
I'm afraid most people wouldn't read your sarcasm...
Hey, I’m from Bartletts harbor, in the states now. Good to see you all keeping busy up there
Ok, so they basically took the concept of a snowmobile and made YOU the chassis
I didn't know I needed one of these until about a few minutes ago.....correction....NEEDED ONE OF THESE.........
How much is that gonna hurt when you fall and that thing runs you over?
Wonderful to fall and have the Skizee go over you.
An electric version would be awesome
yes, I would love to make one but busy with all the other electric projects. in5 years!!!
at 2:12 when the guy just goes zooming in the back 😂 idk why I find it so funny
I could see this being useful for grooming fatbike trails... it's hard to tell from the video, but if the track was wider, it might be moar betterer... any notion of making a battery powered version?
Sylvestre Fink If the first person on the trail after snowfall were this guy, that would be solid.
I think u mean mo better
Sylvestre Fink or use a wide-track utility snowmobile
Moar betterer?
This is pretty cool, I imagine this will morph into a few cool types of snow recreation.
Imagine getting stuck in the middle of the flat deep snow on skies
Wow 🤩 Proudly Canadian. 👋🏼
They said i could be anything...
So i became a snowmobile
Gotta say that looks cool...
Yeah, country skiing is too tiring.
so this pulls you up the mountain when the lift is broke. what do you do when you ski down and its still up the top?
I want one of those in electric so it's silent. the places I could go with that and the nature I can see with that
My grade 8 teacher "invented "something very similar. I remember him showing us a video just like this in the mid 90s. I believe he called it a "ski-push" or "snow_push" or something like that.
He's definitely not the first one, but they made it to public
I always thought the slopes needed something obnoxious to break up the peaceful atmosphere.
They have had cross country snowboards for a long time. At least 10 years ago I saw sowboards with a hole cut in back of board with a track like this and a hand throttle.
I’m so high right now, but this is GENIUS!
Freakin BRILLIANT.
What could possibly go wrong?
They should call it no mountain needed cool video 👍
This guy: Makes cool ski invention
CBC: makes video about it
Me: watches video and all I think about is what happens if I get run over by it
what happens if your skis somehow get caught up in the snow, like running both skis straight into the base stem of bushes? does the Skizee then break your back like breaking a pretzel?
Takes away from the tranquility of nature,I don't want to here engines every time I go into nature to enjoy it.
Don't buy one then.
This is real good I can’t even ski now if I fall down when I ski ...I would get run over by a machine🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Looks like a good option for cross country also....
just like my daydream in the back of a long queue at the bottom of a lift chair but I wasn't quite sure how. Now you have done it thank you, I will have to try it one day.
That thing is going to break your back any day now
Matt Boodz Notice the safety band? I doubt it’s gonna hurt anybody when it turns of when you fall
@@casobank there's a thing called "inertia", look it up 👍
Ahhhhh, skiing... I love the peace and qui... Nevermind.
It’s cheaper and more enjoyable to just snow kite !
I love snowkiting but the weather has not cooperated for the last couple years, it's always either wind with no snow or snow with no wind! Or just too bloody cold.
One of these would be great fun to have alongside my kites, as long as it's affordable enough.
David Sparks but that’s for sure smelly
@@eulachonfish how much do you think you've spent on snowkiting? I've done a bit of it and a bit on water with rentals. I'd love to do it more but damn, not a cheap hobby!
That being said, I can imagine Militaristic Penguins buying up a shipload... 🤣😷
Too bad they dont make something like this but bigger that you could ride on.. maybe call it a snowmobile or something
Could it handle british columbias deep snow? Looks like a great backcountry approach method
new invention: a slower snowmobile
I like it. Opens up the back country. Put a hitch on it to tow a sled with gear. As a Colorado guy I am interested.
The Skizee: *hits tree stump*
Investors: "aight imma head out"
Me on a walk : I wish I could attach some kind of motor so It would make my walk easier. Wait, I'll take the car !
Can it be used to PULL instead? (to use for ice fishing, etc...).
Also, imagine you call or something and being ran over by that.
Now, make a Electric version too!
No no you don't want an electric version. Stop drinking the electric Kool aid! You want gas! If the batteries die out in the middle of nowhere... What you gonna do? Carry it? Yeah right.
xxgg If it pulled you’d constantly be being blasted in the face with snow.
Look up Snowdog. It's basically a pull version of this
xxgg no you need it to push as it will press the thing down so that it can get grip, if it is in front it would probably just spin
It would need to be pretty heavy to pull effectively. Pushing on the load forces the treads into the ground giving them more traction. There are a couple other designs you can find on youtube that pull (MTT 136 and Snowdog), but they look to be much larger.
I met the creator of the skizee in a Toronto ski convention. Cool guy. Talked for hours!
Put some really, really good muffler on them.
Or electric. No toxic fumes, almost zero maintenance and super cheap energy as a bonus.
I'm surprised Rick Mercer didn't come out of hiding to profile this in an RMR special.
This sort of thing would be right up his alley.
BTW, it looks fun.
The raddest thing since a Snurfer.
Who wants to listen to a lawnmower ploughing up and down a ski slope. Great idea but noisy
They need to be electric and hireable, like you can pay say $5 to use it and you plug it in at the top and there is a fleet of 50 or so
Exactly. That's why it needs to be a 2-stroke
Skizee looks great, and this is a good news piece (well-produced, informative, interesting).
It's madness to keep this thing behind, when you are moving
ikr. Unless it has great kill switches, I wouldn't trust it behind me on steep slopes.
It could be coverted to have the tracks in the front.
If it is not on a slope then I dont see that big of a problem
Why? Т.е. почему?
Fantastic proposition 😀
This is so American : motorize everything. Next step : invent something to go mountain hiking without having to walk!
pretty sure this is Canadian
The man who invented these motorized skis is Canadian, this video was filmed in Canada, and this channel is maintained by the Canadian Broadcasting Company. Yes, all very American indeed.
This is all in Canada dummy.
Buddy is from Newfoundland
there's a town, i think it's a in georgia, where they have these beautiful, well-maintained bike lanes everywhere in the town. Consequently, everyone makes great use of them, commuting to work, and to school.....by golf cart. Everyone in town owns a golf cart.
Awesome no hill needed!
Next idea.. Lets invent one with a seat. Oh yeah, snow mobile.
Hopefully not for public ski slopes. But for services, off road enthusiasts and practical applications, seems great.
Any motor machines should be forbidden to use in nature! Imagine the destruction and loudness for the animals in winter...
You don't have to imagine it - it's already documented how disruptive snowmobiles are to wildlife and plants, and the level of toxic emissions that comes out of their unfiltered exhaust pipes is mind-blowing.
so when you go down the slope does this thing follow you?
Now do a backflip
Awesome invention!
Make the arm rotatable to make it fitable for snwobarders
Wouldn't work that way
Rechargeable electric would be great!👍👍
yes, would love to pour my time into it when I can.
